• How to trigger Mouse-Over on iPhone?

  This might seem like a really dumb question, but I am writing an application and I have come across where my mouse-over, mouse-click and mouse-hover need different events bound to them. Now on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. It all works as expected. However, on my iPhone the actions will not trigger. Now my question is are their any specific ways I can have the Mouse-Over essentially be fired when I hold my finger down and trigger an event? An example where this doesn't work is right on this website when you hover over a comment it is supposed to display the +1 or flag icon. I am using jquery.

• SQL Compact 2008 Connection String Problem

  I have the following code to connect to a sql server compact edition 2008: private SqlConnection sqlConn; public void createConnection() { String connectionString = @"Data Source=C:\Projects\somefile.sdf;Persist Security Info=False"; sqlConn = new SqlConnection(connectionString); sqlConn.Open(); } However, I keep getting the following error when sqlConn.Open() is executed: "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)" Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? I can create a connection to the db in the database explorer but it doesn't seem to work in code.

• TFS Check-in Unavailable

  I have a C# project that is booked into TFS. However, for some reason one of the forms within the project has not booked in. I can’t work out how to force this to book in, as right-clicking on the source file doesn’t give me the option to check-in. All the other files in the project are booked in, and I can see them using the Source Control Explorer, however, this file isn’t in there. Can anyone tell me how this could have happened, and how to force this file to check-in?

• Show a Copying-files dialog/form while manually copying files in C#?

  I am manually copying some folders and files through C#, and I want to show the user that something is actually going on. Currently, the program looks as if its frozen, but it is actually copying files. I would think there is already a built-in dialog or form that shows the process, similar to copying/moving files in windows explorer. Is there anything like that available, or will I have to create everything from scratch? Also, would this be the best method to show the user that something is actively going on? When I create a connection via the designer, the "Choose Data Source" dialog only lists the following data sources: Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Microsoft SQL Server Database File When I create a connection on the Server explorer the list is complete with : Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5, Microsoft SQL Server Database File, Microsoft SQL Server Compact, ODBC etc. Please help me out. I need to use SQL Server Compact. • Reading a file over a network path

  I have this weird issue,when I use > File FileToRead = new File("\\\\MYSERVER\\MYFOLDER\\MYFOLDER\\MYPICTURE.JPG"); to read a file over a network,all I get is a null pointer exception.Normally a local path works with this,but when on a network path,I just couldn't manage to get it to work.Any ideas? • Is there a tool that will show diagrams of my SQL database in real-time?

  I've created some diagrams of SQL tables using the "Reverse Engineer" feature of Microsoft Office Visio. I like being able to visualize my relational databases in this manner. However, what I get is just a static document that I can print, e-mail to colleagues, and click widgets on. Earlier this year, I saw at a demo that the new version of Visual Studio 2010 has a new feature called the "Architect Explorer", which allows developers to view relationships among .net classes on the fly. It has many features for filtering the data that the developer is interested in. It would be really awesome if I could visually browse my tables and stored procedures and see what is related to what by primary key, foreign key, and referenced in stored procedures. I realize that I'm talking about two entirely different technologies and it's not a perfect analogy, but is there some similar tool that would allow me to visualize tables in my SQL database?

• Function for getting localized path?

  Windows 7 (and probably Windows Vista) display localized folder names using the LocalizedResourceName entry in the desktop.ini file. For my Documents folder, this looks like [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21770 IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-112 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll IconIndex=-235 (see this question) This way the explorer displays the path "C:\Users\Username\Documents" as "C:\Benutzer\Username\Dokumente" on a german Windows. I wonder, if there's any build-in shell function to automatically get this localized name or, even better, transform a whole path into its localized form (best would be anything in .NET)? This is even more interesting as the LocalizedResourceName entry is only documented for Windows CE (see here). Thanks Martin

• Application window sent behind other windows on closing different thread (C#)

  I'm writing a Windows Forms Application in C#.NET On startup, the application displays a splash screen which is running in a separate thread. Whilst the splash screen is showing, the main application is initialising. Once the main application has finished initialising, the main form of the application is displayed, and the splash screen still shows over the top. Everything so far is as expected. Then, the Splash screen is closed, which causes that thread to exit. For some reason, at the point, the main application windows gets sent behind all other open Windows, notably the Windows Explorer window where you clicked the .exe file to run the application in the first place! What could be causing the windows to suddenly jump "behind" like this?

  Using VS2008, u could set Document Explorer to limit your search to specific subjects using the Technology dropdown, which made for finding info on a specific subject very easy, as it was limited to a subset of available subject. How is the accomplished in the new VS2010 help? The VS2010 help at the moment, is very hazy. When I search for Task, or task, or c# task. re the new Task library in .net, it returns a whole bundle of irrelevancy... Any ideas.

• jquery.position() isn't working correctly.

  I'm working on a menu system where I want a ul to show as a dropdown when the users does a mouseOver on li in another ul. I thought I'd use position to set the position of the dropdown (so it actually looks like a menu). What I want is the dropdown's top left corner to start at the same place as the bottom left corner of the wrapping listitem. Unfortunately the positioning fails in several different ways: In Firefox it seems like the dropdown's are offset with approximately -100 25 pixels the first item in the list has a different offset on the left side compared to the other items The offset in IE is not the same as in FF Doing the positioning repeatedly in explorer results in different positions each time.   We have migrated our Asp .NET application from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 Server when we access the site from Internet explorer we are facing some cache issues like when we click on logout its redirecting to homepage instead of login page but when i try to navigate inside its not allowing me i.e. its throwing me the user id and password is wrong.. i am facing this issue only in IE if i access the same page from Firefox i am not gettiing these kind of issue.. Is this problem related to some IIS settings or some code change is required? please help me in solving this issue...

• Javascript Shift+Enter (Firefox)

  Hi guys, Had a look and found some things on this, but nothing seems to work as I'd like it. Initially I had my solution working with internet explorer and chrome, but not firefox (which is unsatisfactory for me to not have working) What I'm looking for is a simple text area, which sends data on enter key, but creates a new line on Shift+Enter. The following is what I have function goReturn(e,str) { var e = (window.Event) ? e.which : e.keyCode; if (e.shiftKey && e=="13") { document.getElementById("wall").value = document.getElementById("wall").value+"\n"; } else if(e=="13"){ // ...continue to send data } } This sends the data on enter, but also sends the data on shift and enter (which is the problem I have). • Is it possible to create a branch from a tag in TortoiseSVN without first checking out the tag from

  Our trunk directory contains about 100mb of code and we create tags from the trunk directory. Normally, this is not an issue because a tag takes up no space until you need to use it for something. Since branches are created from tags in SVN, how can I create a branch from a tag wtihout first checking out the tag? It appears I need to do a Tortoise Update from Windows Explorer to get the tag down to my local machine before I can use Tortoise Branch/Tag... to create a branch from it. This seems illogical since we don't make changes to tag folders, and it requires that I check out 100mb of code, only to create a branch, and then check out another 100mb of code in the branch folder, where the changes will actually be made. Ideally, I'd be able to create a branch directly in the repository via RepoBrowser - but I can't see an option for it there. Am I missing something?

• Is it possible to exclude folders from a web application project in vs 2010?

  I had previously asked this question. At the time I was working with VS 2008. To restate the question. I have a web application that generates 1000's of small xml files in a certain directory. I would like to exclude this directory from the web application project in visual studio 2010. With vs 2008 it was not possible. Has anything changed? Besides the general wait for VS to iterate through this directory and add an item in the solution explorer for each file, it also strains my system resources, so I would like to exclude it from the project, but the dir and files need to physically exist on disk, because they are part of the application. • Mercurial: Recommended way of sending a whole repository to someone

  I have done some programming and I have used Mercurial for source control. I now need to send all of my code to someone else (because they are going to take over). Since all copies of a mercurial repository is a full and real repository my first thought is to first do a clone of my repository without an update and then zipping and emailing that clone. Is this a good way, or is there a better way? For example when using the TortoiseHg Repository Explorer I can right-click on a changeset and under Export there are various options that looks like they could be doing something interesting, but I don't quite understand them or know which one to use.

  I have been looking everywhere for a way to do this. There are a lot of people that have asked the questions but when I try myself i cant seem to get it to work. Often I get the format correct but it inputs the information into a new page instead of saving it. I did manage to get one to work for google chrome but when i ran it in internet explorer it didnt work. I have a table being created from a MYSQL query and i would like the table to be able to be saved as a CSV. Could anyone help me out?

  Hello, I am writing a backend application which needs to be able to send multiple SQL commands to a MySQL server. MySQL = 5.x support multiple statements, but unfortunately we are interfacing with MySQL 4.x. I am trying to find a way (hint: regex) to split SQL statements by their semicolon, but it should ignore semicolons in single and double quotes strings. http://www.dev-explorer.com/articles/multiple-mysql-queries has a very nice regex to do that, but doesn't support double quotes. I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.

  Recently noticed detail description of FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING flag in MSDN, and read several Google search results about unbuffered I/O in Windows. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa363858(v=vs.85).aspx I wondering now, is it really important to consider unbuffered option in file I/O programming? Because many programs use plain old C stream I/O or C++ iostream, I didn't gave any attention to FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING flag before. Let's say we are developing photo explorer program like Picasa. If we implement unbuffered I/O, could thumbnail display speed show noticeable difference in ordinary users?

• How do I "step over" jQuery code while debugging?

  While stepping through a script that uses jQuery, I just want to test the code I wrote. I don't want to step into the jQuery file -- I'm not debugging jQuery, just my own file. Are there any ways to tell a debugger to not step into the jQuery file? I use Visual Studio + Internet Explorer, as well as Firefox + Firebug for stepping through code ... and both seem to love to step through dozens of jQuery statements. For example, say I have a script like this: $("div").each(function() { $(this).hide(); }); I would like to press "step into" and not see the implementation of ".each()" etc... In C#, this is possible by using the [DebuggerStepThrough()] attribute on a class. But that doesn't help with JavaScript.
