  • Use Google Chrome to download a software, but the software is in Chinese?

    I am recently using Google Chrome to download software installation files from an English authorized website. But, when I installed them on my computer, they appeared to be in Chinese (I am using a Chinese version of Windows 7). However, it was weird that the built-in web browser in one of those softwares searches up English help contents. Could you please tell me what's going on over here?? Thank you very much!!

  • Why can I browse to localhost, not to my computer name? (IIS7) [closed]

    I'm not very clued up on IIS, but I'm trying to do something that I thought would be quite simple. In IE, if I browse to http://localhost:80, I am greeted with a pretty picture with a bunch of welcome messages and a big "IIS7", thanks to the graphic designers at Microsoft. In IE, if I browse to http://mycomputername:80, I'm greeted with 404. It may be my fault... perhaps I've done something weird. Chrome replies 404 to either of those. Should this work, and if so, what am I doing wrong, or what can I do to get it to work? What might cause this to happen and how can I fix it? EDIT To add a bit more information. I did find after posting this question that http://localhost:80 was the only URL I could access on my local PC. I could not access any of the virtual sub-directories on localhost via my browser.

    I have searched on this topic a lot but I am not able to understand how and where OSI layers (Application, Presentation, Session, Transport, Network, Datalink, Physical) come into picture in the whole process of opening a webpage in browser. I have read this - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2092527/what-happens-when-you-type-in-a-url-in-browser?lq=1 and I know all the functions of all the layers that are there in OSI model. Also, do we use OSI model or TCP/IP in the whole process? Basically I am having problem linking all the things together. And please forgive me if there are resources out there that explain this concept. You can definitely point to them.

  • How does Google manage to serve results so fast?

    I am building an autocomplete functionality for my site and the Google instant results are my benchmark. When I look at Google, the 50-60 ms response time baffle me. They look insane. In comparison here’s how mine looks like. To give you an idea my results are cached on the load balancer and served from a machine that has httpd slowstart and initcwnd fixed. My site is also behind cloudflare From a server side perspective I don’t think I can do anything more. Can someone help me take this 500 ms response time to 60ms? What more should I be doing to achieve Google level performance?

  • I/O error(socket error): [Errno 111] Connection refused

    I have a program that uses urllib to periodically fetch a url, and I see intermittent errors like : I/O error(socket error): [Errno 111] Connection refused. It works 90% of the time, but the othe r10% it fails. If retry the fetch immediately after it fails, it succeeds. I'm unable to figure out why this is so. I tried to see if any ports are available, and they are. Any debugging ideas?   • Using Audio Queue Services to play PCM data over a socket connection

    I'm writing a remote desktop client for the iPhone and I'm trying to implement audio redirection. The client is connected to the server over a socket connection, and the server sends 32K chunks of PCM data at a time. I'm trying to use AQS to play the data and it plays the first two seconds (1 buffer worth). However, since the next chunk of data hasn't come in over the socket yet, the next AudioQueueBuffer is empty. When the data comes in, I fill the next available buffer with the data and enqueue it with AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer. However, it never plays these buffers. Does the queue stop playing if there are no buffers in the queue, even if you later add a buffer?   • Internet Explorer 8 64bit and Selenium Not working.

    I am trying to get selenium tests to run. Yet every time I try to run a tests that should run IE I get a error on line 863 of htmlutils.js It says that I should disable my popup blocker. The thing is I went to IE tools- turn of popup block. So it is disabled and I get this error. Is there something else I need to disable. I actually don't even know what version of Internet explorer it is running since I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit version. So when I do use IE I use 64bit version but I am under the understanding if the site or something like that does not support 64bit it goes to 32bit. So not sure what I need to do it to make it work.     Hello, I just started getting into XCode and Co. What I am trying is to send accelerometer data via WLAN to a PC or MAC over a Socket connection. I am trying at the moment with the iPhone simulator, on the other site a netbook with a JAVA program shall receive a test string for starters. Unfortunately my socket will not initialize. What am I doing wrong?     I am using Symfony 1.3.2 with Propel ORM on Ubuntu 9.10. I am incorporating memcache to the website. Does anyone know how to resolve this (I suspect its something to do with Linux user privileges). As an aside, I am aware that SF prvoides an sfAPCache wrapper class for cacheing. I am intentionally not using it for two reasons: I cannot find any comprehensive (and up to date) docs on this class I want to learn the memcache API directly, since I will be accesing it from other languages.

  • Loading Liferay Properties from Spring IoC container (to get jdbc connection parameters)

    I'm developing some portlets for Liferay Portal 5.2.3 with bundled tomcat 6.0.18 using Spring IoC container. I need to map the User_ table used in Liferay database to an entity with Hibernate, so I need to use two different dataSources to separate the liferay db from the db used by portlets. My jdbc.properties has to hold all connection parameters for both databases: no problem for the one used by portlets, but I am having issues determining which database uses liferay to hold its data. My conclusion is that i should have something like this: liferayConnection.url=jdbc:hsqldb:${liferay.home}/data/hsql/lportal in order to get the database url dynamically loaded, according to Liferay properties found in portal-ext.properties. (Or, better, load the whole portal-ext.properties and read database properties from there). The problem is that the placeholder is not resolved: Caused by: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanDefinitionStoreException: Invalid bean definition with name 'liferayDataSource' defined in class path resource [WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml]: Could not resolve placeholder 'liferay.home' To dodge this problem I tried to load explicitly portal-ext.properties with a Spring bean: <bean id="liferayPropertiesConfigurer" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer" p:location="../../portal-ext.properties"/> but no luck: liferay.home is not resolved but there aren't other errors. How can I resolve the placeholder defined by Liferay? Thanks

  • IIS8 Asp.net State service remote connection failure

    Recently we upgrade our web server to windows server 2012 with IIS8. We have this issue when users try to connect the asp.net state service to this web server remotely. It always popup Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection. If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as the server name. In IIS7 / 7.5 we use the same way and it works fine. As long as the state service is running and firewall is set properly, we don't have any problem. However, in IIS8 it doesn't work. (We even turn off firewall to test it) Thanks for helping.

    I'm using active_delegate for multiple connection in Rails. Here I'm using mysql as master_database for some models,and postgresql for some other models. How can I retrieve the detailed informations about the users of dom1 and dom2 using LDAP(s) connection on the AD of dom1 ? I have an technical user which has right to browse both domain. I'm able to see 6 entries in the group with the following filter : (&(memberOf=cn=group1,ou=someou,dc=dom1)(|(objectClass=user)(objectClass=foreignSecurityPrincipal))) but the users from the other domain are seen as cn=...(some key)...,cn=foreignSecurityPrincipal,dc=dom1 Java hints would be better.   • Data Collection (Offline - no internet) and then syncing it to generate reports from server

    So, I have a new project I am planning on taking, and needed to know what skills will be required to achieve this project. The project is to do intensive data collection in the field where they don't have internet access. As part of the data collection, images will be uploaded as part of the data collection which will have to be resized, etc. Once the data collection occurs, this data needs to be consolidated and reported on. I am thinking there are two ways of generating the report. 1. Into a PDF that can be designed. 2. Is there a way to generate an executable file (since the PDF will be huge due to multiple images, etc) and the executable file is navigation friendly with drop-downs etc. It might not be an executable file, but could be a web page or some way that this can be delivered to the client in a friendly professional way. The PDF will have to be generated somehow so that it can be printed as a hard copy. What languages and skill sets will I need to accomplish this project?

  • Connection details & timeouts in a java web service client

    Hello fellow Coders, I have to implement a webservice client to a given WSDL file. I used the SDK's 'wsimport' tool to create Java classes from the WSDL as well as a class that wrap's the webservice's only method (enhanceAddress(auth, param, address)) into a simple java method. So far, so good. The webservice is functional and returning results correcty. The code looks like this: try { EnhancedAddressList uniservResponse = getWebservicePort().enhanceAddress(m_auth, m_param, uniservAddress); //Where the Port^ is the HTTP Soap 1.2 Endpoint }catch (Throwable e) { throw new AddressValidationException("Error during uniserv webservice request.", e); } The Problem now: I need to get Information about the connection and any error that might occur in order to populate various JMX values (such as COUNT_READ_TIMEOUT, COUNT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, ...) Unfortunately, the method does not officially throw any Exceptions, so in order to get details about a ConnectException, i need to use getCause() on the ClientTransportException that will be thrown. Even worse: I tried to test the read timeout value, but there is none. I changed the service's location in the wsdl file to post the request to a php script that simply waits forever and does not return. Guess what: The web service client does not time out but waits forever as well (I killed the app after 30+ minutes of waiting). That is not an option for my application as i eventually run out of tcp connections if some of them get 'stuck'. The enhanceAddress(auth, param, address) method is not implemented but annotated with javax.jws.* Annotations, meaning that i cannot see/change/inspect the code that is actually executed. Do i have any option but to throw the whole wsimport/javax.jsw-stuff away and implement my own soap client?

    In short, how can I restrict access to connection pool X based on application name or JAR name? A simple use case might help... A business web-app (call it WEB_APP_A) uses pool Y to do basic look-up SQL. Some users of this web-app have access to also update some sensitive data in the database. This code is provided by a JAR file (call it HR_JAR) that can be dropped in where needed. This JAR uses pool X for all of it's connections. We don't want developers of WEB_APP_A using pool X. We only want HR_JAR using pool X. This is to keep devs of WEB_APP_A from accidentally or intentionally abusing the access pool X provides. Some considerations: This is legacy code so HR_JAR is here to stay We are running on Weblogic 9.2 We can not keep passwords in any from in the source code We have researched weblogic user level authn/authz for JDBC resources but then this begs the question; how do we secure the user creds we use to become a user per app/jar? Ideas? Thoughts? I can elaborate more on what I have tried, but I wanted fresh ideas.

  • Suggestions for a PHP programmer wanting to create a timer app for an internet cafe

    Hi, I was asked by a friend to make a timer app for his small internet cafe. He wants to have timers on each client PCs. The timers indicate how much time has been spent by the customer. On the PC that he uses, there's another program that has the overview of all the timers and there's a button for each client PCs that allows him to blacken out the screen. It's not automatic hence the button. The problem is I haven't done any desktop apps before so that's why I'm asking you guys (the awesome people at SO) for suggestions/advice on what language/tool to use. A little info about me: I did Java but haven't tried Swing though. I know a bit about Python and Ruby too. I don't mind learning new languages as long as I get to finish or get a prototype up and running. He doesn't mind if I could show him a prototype, it's actually for me.   • Internet Radio Station for University

    I am trying to help my University Student Radio station rethink the setup of the way they stream music, but I have some questions regarding the use of Ubuntu to stream music. Currently, the radio station uses two windows machines: one of which is used to stream the radio station and serve the website, and the other is used by rotating djs to select songs and create playlists. The computer used by djs feeds mono into the sound card of the server and the server streams the feed online. -Ideally I would like to maintain a two-computer setup: One computer as server, and another that is used to select and play music by rotating djs. -I would like to use Ubuntu for the server. -I would like to use Windows for the other machine. -The server should be able to stream song information. First, is there a way to somehow get the song information from an analog feed? Second, what is the best streaming server for radio? I have encountered shoutcast, icecast, and darwin, but I don't know where to begin in attempting to gauge them. Finally, if anyone has any tips or pointers about small internet radio station management/ setup they would be appreciated as this is my first radio station, and I am eager to hear of past experiences.

    Hi, I'm trying to build a "visual web part" for SharePoint 2010 which should connect to Oracle table and display records on SharePoint page.For development, Oracle 11g client (with ODP.net) ,SharePoint server 2010, Visual Studio 2010 and Oracle 10g express all running on my machine. First,I've written sample code in ASP.NET web app to connect my local Oracle table and display data in grid view and it works fine.   • Connection reset when calling disconnect() using enterprisedt's ftp java framework

    I'm having trouble disconnecting from a ftp-server, using the enterprisedt java ftp framework. I can simply not call disconnect() on a FileTransferClient object without getting an error. I cannot fint ANYTHING related to this by doing a Google-search, so I was hoping you have any suggestions, or experience with this issue.
