• What is the best way to do multiple listviews in android?

  Hi all, i am writing a software that i have to drill down on content a lot. For example when the program starts a listview is displayed. When user clicks on an item, then a second listview must be displayed. For example: Select Continent Select Country Select State Select City Select Address What is the best way to do this (less memory, faster, easier to code etc)? To create multiple listviews with multiple adapters? Or 1 listview with multiple Adapters? Lists are loaded from an external XML File. So far i am creating a new adapter and setting it to the listview. How do i create a second listview and after clicking on 1st listview displaying the second one, with animation. Any examples? Extend my class to ListActivity or Activity? Best regards and thanks for helping, Nicos

• Empty Post with JQuery Ajax Post

  Hi, I am getting a some unusual problem with JQuery ajax. I am using IIS to host my web application and I have http handler for which I have enabled only POST verb on it. Using JQuery ajax, I am posting data to this http handler, this is working fine in our development and testing environment and also most of the time on production environment as well. But sometimes we are getting empty post data on to the server. When we look into the csBytes on IISLog we found that it was very less compare to other success post requests. We are using JSON.js to convert the javascript object back to raw json string and latest jquery.1-3.js for posting to server. Anbody know why this is happening?

• "Send it to a friend" button on a webpage

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

• How do I get Xcode and TextMate to calibrate syntax highlighting colours the same way?

  This is a mostly insignificant problem, but it's been bugging me for a while and I figured someone on here might be as ridiculously OCD as I am (this is a programmer community after all). Basically, the problem is that TextMate doesn't seem to calibrate syntax highlighting colours, while Xcode does. What this means in practice is that, while I've faithfully recreated my TextMate theme in Xcode, the syntax highlighting in Xcode seems noticeably less vivid that it does in TextMate. If I use DigitalColor Meter to check the actual colours in Xcode, they don't match the values I entered, while in TextMate they do. Any ideas what's going on here? Thanks!

  I recently encountered an IOError writing to a file on NFS. There wasn't a disk space or permission issue, so I assume this was just a network hiccup. The obvious solution is to wrap the write in a try-except, but I was curious whether the implementation of print and write in Python make either of the following more or less likely to raise IOError: f_print = open('print.txt', 'w') print >>f_print, 'test_print' f_print.close() vs. f_write = open('write.txt', 'w') f_write.write('test_write\n') f_write.close() (If it matters, specifically in Python 2.4 on Linux).

• What should I use to replace the WinAPI Beep() function?

  I've got a Visual C++/CLI app which uses beeps to signify good and bad results (used when the user can't see the screen). Currently I use low pitched beeps for bad results and high pitched beeps for good results: if( goodResult == true ) { Beep(1000, 40); } else { Beep(2000, 20); } This works okay on my Vista laptop, but I've tried it on other laptops and some seem to play the sounds for less time (they sound more like clicks than beeps) or the sound doesn't play at all. So I have two questions here: Is there a more reliable beep function? Is there a (simple) way I can play a short .wav file or something similar instead (preferred solution).

It should be considered as one range from 10/01/2012 to 10/30/2014 without any gap. 1 10/01/2012 02/01/2013 1 01/01/2013 01/31/2013 1 02/10/2013 03/31/2013 1 04/15/2013 10/30/2014 Id 2 has a gap more than 20 days between end date 01/30/2013 and start date 05/01/2013. It has to be captured. 2 01/01/2013 01/30/2013 2 05/01/2013 06/30/2014 2 07/01/2013 02/01/2014 Id 3 should be considered as one range from 01/01/2012 to 06/01/2014 without any gap. The gap between end date 02/28/2013 and start date 07/01/2013 should be ignored because range from 01/01/2012 to 01/01/2014 cavers a gap. 3 01/01/2012 01/01/2014 3 01/01/2013 02/28/2013 3 07/01/2013 06/01/2014 The cursor can do it but it works extremely slow and not acceptable.   I have a ASP has a Function that converts ä to &auml so far so good. I have lets say space for 10 char's if there are more cut them of if there are less fill the space up with &nbsp's. . Like this: test &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp but if i say "täst" it does this: te &auml t &nbsp It interprets the &auml not as one char it looks at it as 6 chars. Is there a clever way around that? This problem messes up my design because I need the right count of spaces. The whole thing goes into a big select box. Of you have to add a ; at the end of ever &... I could add them because the Editor would really interprt them.

Syntax used is not essential. It may be "&" or "and" or any other supported with language/library. I need to take different action depending on result of evaluation - is it true or false. Could I use any parser already included with Andorid? Is there some way to use JS "eval" from browser component? Is it possible to use sqlite expressions to get true/false result without selecting anything? Those libraries are implemented in native code. Will it be faster and less battery expensive?

• Is it a problem if i query again and again to SQL Server 2005 and 2000?

  Window app i am constructing is for very low end machines (Celeron with max 128 RAM). From the following two approaches which one is the best (I don't want that application becomes memory hog for low end machines):- Approach One:- Query the database Select GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate which is returning me more than 300 thousands records (but only one field i.e. GUID - 300 thousands GUIDs). Now running a loop to achieve next process of this software based on GUID. Second Approach:- Query the database Select Top 1 GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate with top 1 again and again until all 300 thousands records done. It will return me only one GUID at a time, and I can do my next step of operation. What do you suggest which approach will use the less Memory Resources?? (Speed / performance is not the issue here).

  We're moving a social media service to be on separate data centers with global load balancing, as our other hosting provider's entire data center went down. Twice. This means that both websites need to be synchronized in some sense -- I'm less worried about the code of the pages, that's easy enough to sync, but they need to have the same database data. From my research on SO, it seems MySQL Replication is a good option, but the MySQL manual, for scaling out, says that its best when there are far more reads then there are writes/updates: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/replication-solutions-scaleout.html In our case, it's about equal. We're getting around 200-300 thousand requests a day right now, and we can grow rapidly. Every request is both a read and write request. What would be the best method or tool to handle this?

  I'm pretty new to Python programming and would appreciate some help to a problem I have... Basically I have multiple text files which contain velocity values as such: 0.259515E+03 0.235095E+03 0.208262E+03 0.230223E+03 0.267333E+03 0.217889E+03 0.156233E+03 0.144876E+03 0.136187E+03 0.137865E+00 etc for many lines... What I need to do is convert all the values in the text file that are less than 1 (e.g. 0.137865E+00 above) to an arbitrary value of 0.100000E+01. While it seems pretty simple to replace specific values with the 'replace()' method and a while loop, how do you do this if you want to replace a range? thanks

• Fortran - String with unknown characters into substrings

  I am trying to put an input string into sub-string arrays. The number of data in the input file are less than 10 but unknown. The number of spaces between each data is also unclear. Example: Asd B Cwqe21 Ddsw Eww I am quite novice to Fortran, so I do not know which format I should use. My problem is that I do not know the number of data (here I assumed that there are 5), so how can I make the code work? I tried the following which did not work: CHARACTER (LEN=100), DIMENSION(10) :: string READ (1,*) (string,I=1,10) It seems that the error I got was because there was no 6th string to read and put into string(6). I tried using the "Index" to find the space, but since I do not know how many spaces are in the string, it did not help me.

  I am working on a program to detect the tips of a probing device and analyze the color change during probing. The input/output mechanisms are more or less in place. What I need now is the actual meat of the thing: detecting the tips. In the images below, the tips are at the center of the crosses. I thought of applying BFS to the images after some threshold'ing but was then stuck and didn't know how to proceed. I then turned to OpenCV after reading that it offers feature detection in images. However, I am overwhelmed by the vast amount of concepts and techniques utilized here and again, clueless about how to proceed. Am I looking at it the right way? Can you give me some pointers? I have the code to check for any matching images, but if there are supposed to be four matching image paths (as that is how many are in the first collection), and there is less than this, how can I get the missing one without writing loops?   I dont have any experience for web services. please give me some suggestion about the task below. the task is: users will send a txt file (size should less than 20K ) from a .NET application, I need to write a web services which runs by jboss 5.x to read this file and edit this file and send the file back to .NET UI to display the edited version. question is that if the txt file is just test string or binary string, are there any restriction of the string length? if it's binary string, can I need to use BinaryReader class to read it? or not need special reader to read it? (this could be a dumn question :P) what if the .NET application can save the file on either the .NET application server or some shared server location, send a download URL to web serivces, can web services download it and read it? JBoss will be run on Linux sever. After edit the file, how do I send it back? Thanks for your help!

• How can we protect ourselves from other third parties installing DLLs with the same names as some of

  Our product includes several DLLs built from open source into files with default names as delivered by the open source developers. We're careful to install the files in our own directories and we carefully manage the search path (only for our processes) to keep the loader happy. Another developer -- a towering intellect -- decided it would be easier to install their own build of some of the same open source into C:\WINDOWS under the same default DLL filenames. Consequently, when we launch a process which depends on these open source DLLs, the system searches C:\WINDOWS before our directories and finds the DLLs installed by the other developer. And they are, of course, incompatible. Ideas which have occurred to me so far: rename all our DLLs to avoid the default names, which would only make it less likely we would encounter collisions load all our DLLs by full path so the loader captures their names into RAM and doesn't search anywhere else the next time they are requested For various reasons, neither of these options is palatable at the moment. What else can we do to defend ourselves against the towering intellects of the world?
