I have followed the tutorial(exactly) http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix
but I can't telnet my server's 25 port, I have no idea about this issue, so why?
Thanks
situation:
server with RAID 1 (2x1000GB)
currently logged in via SSH (network based debian rescue cd)
need to accomplish:
install a debian based Xen (maybe with: http://wiki.xen.org/xenwiki/LiveCD ?)
keep RAID 1
problem:
I have no physical access to the server, so i can't just drop in a cd or plug-in a usb drive. Does anyone have an ideas (or a tutorial handy) on how I can mount the LiveCD (on a read-only rescue-cd??) and the install the distru without breaking the RAID?
I've a webpage with small image based jquery animated tutorial for kids. Size of the DIV displaying animation is 640x425. What would be the best tool to capture this animation as video? I want to upload this video on Youtube. Probably some tool which would allow me to select display area dimensions would be useful.
I have a network that connects 2 households and would like to setup a simple voip server so that I can call between the houses.
It needs to be for ubnutu , I have used the free 3CX system and while it works brilliantly it doesnt support linux and I can get a windows box.
The users will never need to call external lines. They will only make 'calls' between laptops/pc.
Can someone please make a recommendation and maybe even a tutorial that I can follow
I'm trying to create my first VPN on a VPS with CentOS 6, following this tutorial.
When I have to create an iptables rule to allow proper routing of VPN subnet, with this command:
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.8.0.0/24 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
It throws this error:
iptables: No chain/target/match by that name
I was searching and I've found that this error is usually thrown when you misspell something, but as far as I understand, the rule is correct...
I am using a MacBook and would like to sniff QQ traffic using WireShark or other software. The intercepted traffic will be UTF-8 or unicode, not ascii.
Is this possible, and is there a tutorial that explains this?
QQ uses UDP and some more interesting control structures, which is why I as seeking a specialized solution.
hi there
first , i have to say that i have no experience in working with ubuntu or any other unix like distributions. I have two computers and I wish to have the following setup and working scenario.
In one computer i need to have ubuntu and to connect to it from a windows station using my lan. Can anyone recommend me a tutorial (link, video, anything)?

nixcraft has a tutorial on configuring memcached server(link) at the end says:
For busy memcached server you need to increase system file descriptor
and IP port limits
here is the code to do so:
# Increase system IP port limits
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 2000 65000
why should we do this? memcached is a server and it will respond to clients with its listening port which is 11211 by default. So we shouldn't be limited by local port range.(net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range) The only limit is file descriptors. local port range should be a limit for servers like squid which generate local traffic
I was following this tutorial: http://articles.slicehost.com/2010/4/23/ubuntu-karmic-setup-part-2
On my ubuntu karmic version (on ec2, ami from elastic) I don't see this file:
cat /etc/lsb-release
It just isn't there.
How can I see the version of the O/S? And shouldn't that file be there?
Some people have told me ubuntu isn't really used as a server, is that true or is the trend making it more viable?
How would one go about creating a heat map (say, of the US) based on location data from Google Analytics? I'd like to somehow create such a map with the visitor data from several websites that use Google Analytics. I'm not really looking for a step-by-step tutorial, just some suggestions on how to start. Assume little to no programming experience, but a willingness to learn and hack together stuff to make it work.
I took pictures with a digital camera and I didn't notice that the blur setting is on so the pictures that were taken were all blurred. The camera has no edit feature. Is it still possible to fix it using photoshop?
I followed this tutorial on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpWDihBHRqM which uses photoshop but no luck. As much as possible I want to see the output that is close to a picture that is taken without the blur setting on.
every damn tutorial uses buggy freepbx. It's a pain in the ass because it doesn't set itself up right. I had to manually intervene and so did others.
I want to be able to take pstn calls using my Linksys SPA3000 as a gateway.
I'm told I need to add a SIP trunk then add it to a outbound route.
Also how the heck is this outbound route within twinkle my sip client?
I have setup a Mercurial website in IIS7 using this tutorial:
http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/HgWebInIisOnWindows
I am slowly figuring out all of the options that I can tweak for the served repositories. But I'd like to know if and when I need to recycle the website process in order to pick up changes made to any of the repositories' hgrc files? Does the website pick up the changes on the next request or do I need to always recycle?
Additionally, do I need to "restart" the website or run iisreset?
I want to create an Ad-Hoc network between two laptops on Windows 7. I do that but it keeps disconnecting. What is the reason ?
Can you give me a guide me to a good tutorial for creating ad-hoc networks ?

I have a Linux machine running as a bridge simulating various network conditions. I use tc for this. Introducing delays or packet loss is quite simple but I got into trouble trying to configure bandwidth limiting.
Can you, please, show me how to limit all the traffic going through my bridge without any special rules and condition, simply limit it to 1Mb/s?
Thanks.
PS Your favorite link to tc tutorial will be appreciated.
I've been following all the OpenVPN Bridge tutorials I can, but I'm still missing something. Does anyone know of a super detailed tutorial\explanation of bridging?
If anyone has bridging running, can I get a copy of your interfaces file to see how you've got it going. (Obviously change the ip address, just please change them consistently.)
I've followed this tutorial for a basic installation of nginx.
I always get bad gateway errors and when i look at the logs i see :
[error] 3226#0: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client
Here is my nginx.conf and contents of my sites-available/defaults
nginx.conf,
defaults
I am also seeing this error :
conflicting server name "explorable.com" on 0.0.0.0:80, ignored
I am using Ubuntu 12.04, PHP5-FPM
Thank you!
I've got an Asus Eee PC with Windows 7 starter pre-installed on it. Now, I don't have anything attached to it, no CD/USB Stick/Cables. However, I still get this error:
BOOTMGR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Since I do not have the USB stick with the windows 7 starter OS and don't want to switch this computer to ubuntu as it is not for me, I can't follow the instructions in this tutorial.
Please help!
I'm following a video tutorial where the author (who uses textmate) can open files by using "mate". for example mate .git/config will open this config file
I'm using textwrangler however so I don't have that option. I did try edit .README once when i tried to open the README file of an application, but it opened a blank README file in textwrangler instead of the file with the text in it
so any idea how I can open this .git/config file (or any other file) using textwrangler?
I'm using Mac snow leopard
For some reason, over the past year I have tried to install imagemagick on my windows 7 machine running with XAMPP server (a LAMP package for windows) and I have failed every single try to the point that I think it is impossible, some people claim to have done it but I have yet to see it with my own eyes, I have tried every tutorial, user directions, instructions, you name it. WHy is it nearly impossible?
Hi there,
I've got some movies which should be used for tutorial aspects. Problem: the shown stuff is too fast, I need to slow down the movies.
Does anyone know a tool / programm which can do this? The movies are in mp4 format.
