  • iframe height not taken into account by IE8

    Hi guys, I'm building a dummy widget for a iGoogle/Netvibes like portal. This is a "Google Maps" widget, as it only renders a map centered on a specific location. The widget looks good in all browsers but IE8, in which the height I specify to the <div> that contains the map is not taken into account. Here's the interesting part of the code: <body onload="initialize()" > <div id="map_canvas" style="height:400px; width: 100%;"></div> </body> I have no control on the portal, so the only thing I can modify is the widget itself. I also tried to set the height for the <body>, but same thing. Any idea on why it's not working in IE? Thanks!

And when i try to get response using NSURL code, it does not respond. Below is the code.   • Is there a security issue with using javascript to manipulate cookies?

    Hey guys, another quick question for the experts. I have an alert box that displays updates processed in php to the user just like this site. I want to make it so that if the user closes the box, then it will not pop up for another 5 minutes (unless they check the messages then it will not pop up because the entries that cause the pop up are deleted in the database). On the close of the box I was thinking of giving the user a javascript cookie, since the alert box is done in javascript. I was wondering if this was a bad coding practice, since I am kind of unfamiliar with cookies and was warned against them before. If anyone has any advice or can recommend a better way, I would really appreciate it.

    Hey guys Just wondering what you'd suggest as the best platform for developing a business application for a tablet device. The application needs to be multitouch, have access to a maps API, a database on the device. It will not be going on sale in the app store or Androids market, it is purely for specific business task and not for the general consumer. Obviously the options seem to be iPhone OS and the iPad or Android and an Android tablet device. The form factor for the end product requires something in the region of 8 inch+ screen and enough processing power to provide a good experience for the end user. Any help would be much appreciated.   • How can a client try to reconnect to a server after a first failed try with WCF?

    Hey guys, I'm using a client - server app. When a client starts, he gets a login-screen. When the server is not up yet, the call to the server will throw an exception which i catch (EndpointNotFoundException). I show a messagebox telling the user the server is offline. When he tries to reconnect again, it will throw another exception (CommunicationObjectFaultedException), even though the server is online. When a new client starts then, he can connect to the server. But the client who attempted before, still gets the error. My question now is how can the first client login after a failed first try without having to start his program again. So i want to clear the communicationchannel of its faulted state or something like that. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, Like a lot of people, I'd like to customize the ugly input type=file, and I know that it can't be done without some hacks and/or javascript. But, the thing is that in my case the upload file buttons are just for uploading images (jpeg|jpg|png|gif), so I was wondering if I could use a "clickable" image which would act exactly as an input type file (show the dialog box, and same $_FILE on submitted page). I found some workaround here, and this interesting one too (but does not work on Chrome =/). What do you guys do when you want to add some style to your file buttons?   • Cannot see response body in ie8 when response http status code is set to some error code(422)

    I am making a requset to a web service that sends custom error with proper HTTP header when I notice some validation error, this works fine in chrome and mozilla as things always do and then it broke in ie8 as it always does! After checking the network activity, I see that ie8 is not able to get response body when HTTP code is other that 200(or at-least it seems so). In groovy I am returning error like : render(status: 422, contentType: 'TEXT', text: ((errors as JSON) as String)) Is there a way I could somehow get ie8 to read in the response body, or as an alternative I might be able to set response header but before trying that I was wondering if you guys have already seen this issue and know a solution to it. I am currently doing a project that applies personalisation and customisation and wanted to implement something similar. my prototype is based on an institution, so i want to display a list of probably the last 5 viewed programmes or courses on the home page. I am using php and so far i have thought of using $_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"], but basically returns the last url..Which is not what i want. Does any one have any suggestions that could probably help with this. thanks.

  • git global config issue

    Somehow, my global git (msysgit) settings for user.name and user.email (and god knows what else) are set to a recent ex-colleague's details. When I try and change them i get could not commit to u://.gitconfig If I try and create u://.gitconfig through git bash then i get permission denied. C:\Users\<My Username>\ contains no references to git. I've tried uninstalling, searching the registry and my file system for all references to git and I can't find any (windows file search is crap though). What the hell is going on? Why even after reinstalling are this guys details still the global settings??? Thanks

    Hi guys, I've built a web application which basically logs work that has been done upon projects plus maintain resources used etc. What I need now is to set it up so that projects can be billed. Billed such that - each task that has been undertaken in a project is regarded as a billable service. Instead of building my own invoicing system and accounts management system I was wondering if there was any standard data format i.e in xml DTD or so to which I could set up the information so it could be imported by a third party accounting system for billing - or if not then what is the best way to accomplish this. I need to integrate invoicing capabilities somehow - better if its third party as I don't wish to have to go through building an entire accounting system.

  • Php file outputting javascript for include as a JS file - need to restrict so its not opened in a browser window

    Hi guys, I'm storing configuration details in a database which I need to use in javascript. I'm accessing all this using php and instead of outputting all the details into inline javascript code on the main page I've instead created a php file that outputs content type javascript and refernce it in my main page as an external javascript file. I want to set it up so that it can't be viewed in a browser window i.e : <script type="text/javascript" src="phpFileThatDoesJS.php" ></script> should work but typing www.mysite.com/phpFileThatDoesJS.php in the browser shouldn't EDIT ========== The thing is that I have to edit a script that for some oddball reason stores the username and password of a user in a javascript Object and outputs it within script tags. I have to set it up so that this is not viewable by a simple view source action. Thats why I thought of referencing it as an external javascript. Isnt there any htaccess tricks that I could use?

    I have a set of nodes that define streets. Each node has latitude and longitude. Also I have user location with latitude and longitude. My intention is to build Voronoi diagram for segments defined by each pair of nodes, and then find which node user location is closest to. Looks like this task can be accomplished with CGAL library. While I'm in the process of compiling it for iOS environment, probably you guys will be able to give links to libs that are already compiled against iOS, or were intended to be used in Objective C environment from the very beginning... Because I'm afraid that even if CGAL compiles for me, I might get into trouble when using it. Thanks!

  • Exceptions in ASP.MVC

    Hello guys, I'm here again with another question about MVC. Here is the deal. I have a simple table/class with an Id and a Name. Names suppossed to be unique, and are modeled like that in the DB. I created my controller and everything just works fine. But if I try to insert a name that already exists, an exception should be thrown. I'm just not finding what is the correct kind of exception and it's namespace. The error must be coming from the DB, so... Any ideas? Thanks

  • System_Daemon and shell_exec

    Hey Everyone, I've set up a daemon (daemon.php) using PEAR's System_Daemon which waits for something to appear in the database. Once something is there, the daemon gets enough information and sends it out to another script (execute.php) using the shell_exec command this way I'm not worried about waiting for a response and holding up the daemon. Both of the scripts work fine alone and I'm even able to call shell_exec before calling System_Daemon::start(); . However, if I trying calling it AFTER System_Daemon::start();, then I get an Access Denied only when outputting to a file. I'm still new to Daemons in general, so any ideas or thoughts would be great! Thanks Guys!

However I'm not a big java fan, although I can live with that, I would like to know if there're reasonable alternatives for the android virtual machine. I've done a medium sized project using clojure, however from the reviews I read, it's very slow when running on android. How about scala ? The context is that I wish to make a duplicate function for records in a grid of an admin. website and after trying a few things and the obvious, read data, alter ID=0, change name, submitChanges(), and hitting an exception, lol. I thought I might stop and ask an expert. I wish to start with first reading the record, altering the name by prefixing with "Copy Of " and then saving as a new record.

    Hi everyone, A friend of mine is a Java developer, who's using *NIX for ages. He claims that *NIX is for real Java geeks, whereas WIN is for dummies (and I'm one of them, according to him) and girls. When I ask him to argue his position, and explain, what's so good for Java developer on *NIX, he starts talking about console, wget, curl and grep. But sorry, wget and curl analogues exist for the WIN platform as well. As for the console - I'm using FAR Commander, and have access to the command line when I need. Moreover, even if I decide moving to *NIX, I will certainly use Netbeans or Eclipse on it, so there will be no big difference. Guys, who use Java on *NIX, could you please give me some real killer examples, when *NIX (any util or technique) dramatically increases Java development productivity (in the way the hints are given in "The Pragmatic Programmer"), or, which is also important, gives more fun from the process.
