• Is there a semi-standard way to associate a URL with an IRC user?

  I'm in the process of doing some identity consolidation, so I'm providing URLs to me at various locations on the internet. I'm quite active on IRC, so this naturally lead me to wonder whether there was a way to provide a link to my IRC presence. This lead to me finding http://www.w3.org/Addressing/draft-mirashi-url-irc-01.txt which appears to be a draft of an RFC for associating URLs with IRC, which suggests that I would be irc://irc.freenode.net/DRMacIver,isnick Which seems a little on the lame side. Further, this RFC draft has very thoroughly expired (February 28 1997). On the other hand it seems to be implemented in chatzilla at least: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/irc-urls.html So does anyone know if there's a superseding RFC and/or any other de facto standard for this?

• C# Processing Enter Key on Custom Container

  I am currently building a custom container control. Everything was going along smoothly until I hit a snag during testing. I noticed that the Enter key is not getting processed to the control that has focus inside the container. Everything else works as expected though. I am able to click the button with either the mouse or space bar, but enter does not want to get processed. After doing endless searches on container controls and processing the enter key I have come up with no solution. I tried returning Enter as true in IsInputKey(Keys keyData) and that didn't work. Neither did setting KeyPreview on the form. I have tried it with my custom button and .NET's standard button. Like I mentioned earlier, spacebar will trigger the desired effect. Please tell me what I am missing. There has to be an easy / stupid simple way to get Enter to process over to the active child control.

  In C# I am trying to get an instance of an Excel.Application object from a Process object. This seems like it should be really simple yet I cannot figure it out and cannot find an example. To repeat, I have a System.Diagnostics.Process object that I know refers to a running Excel instance. I now need to recover a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application object that refers to the process so that I can go about manipulating the Excel application from C#. In case it makes it any simpler, I also have the HWND id and window text associated with the active Excel window. Thanks.

• Tweak Data in Doctrine Migration (say, by running some arbitrary queries)

  I've got a migration that creates a couple of columns that act as foreign keys. In particular, I'm adding a creator_id and owner_id column to a model. These foreign keys indicate who created, and who currently owns, a particular kind of domain object. Users are managed by sfDoctrineGuardPlugin. What I'd like to do, for the purpose of the migration, is look up the (active) user with the lowest id, and default creator_id/owner_id to that. I don't see any particularly obvious/proper way to run arbitrary operations on the database during a migration. Does anyone know how?

  Assume I connect to SQL server 2008 via SQL Server Management Studio ( SSMS ) and open new window W1 by clicking on New Query tab and write the following inside W1: BEGIN TRANSACTION; If I execute this statement 5 times, and then write (inside W1) SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; , then the value returned will be 5. But if I open another window W2 ( inside the same SSMS instance and thus on the same connection ) and write inside W2 SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; then value returned will be 0. @@TRANCOUNT variable returns the number of active transactions for the current connection. Both W1 and W2 windows were opened on the same connection, so shouldn’t ( according to the above quote ) in both W1 and W2 variable @@TRANCOUNT hold the same value? thanx

  Authlogic is trying to prepend a before_filter in ActionController::Base to active itself, the problem is that ApplicationController has already been loaded meaning the before_filter won't get copied into your application. Generally this is due to another gem or plugin requiring your ApplicationController prematurely, such as the resource_controller plugin. The solution is to require Authlogic before these other gems / plugins. Please require authlogic first to get rid of this error. (Authlogic::ControllerAdapters::RailsAdapter::AuthlogicLoadedTooLateError) I had installed radiant 0.9.rc2, extension reader and required gem Authologic So while running script/server on ubuntu 9.04 i am receiving the above error Any Suggestion, Thanx in advance

• Enable editing does not call didSelectRowAtIndexPath ??

  Hi I have a UITableViewController where the user should be able to edit the items. In order to enable editing i use this : self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; And for everyone, how does not know where self.editButtonItem comes from, it is predefined by the SDK. So, now when I press on any item, this method is called : - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath but as soon as I hit the edit button and while editing is active, this method does not seemed to be called. Any idea what I missing ?   There is a handy dynamic attribute in active-record called find_or_create_by: Model.find_or_create_by_<attribute>(:<attribute> => "") But what if I need to find_or_create by more than one attribute? Say I have a model to handle a M:M relationship between Group and Member called GroupMember. I could have many instances where member_id = 4, but I don't ever want more than once instance where member_id = 4 and group_id = 7. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to do something like this: GroupMember.find_or_create(:member_id => 4, :group_id => 7) I realize there may be better ways to handle this, but I like the convenience of the idea of find_or_create.

• Morfik - suitability for medium-scale web enterprise applications

  I'm investigating technologies with which to develop a medium-scale (up to 100 or 200 simultaneous users) database-driven web application, and someone suggested Morfik. However, outside of the Morfik company I can find practically zero community support - no active blogs, no tutorials, no videos, no books - and this is of some concern (especially when compared to C# / ASP.NET / nHibernate etc support). Deciding between Morfik (untried and not used widely AFAIK) and the other technologies I mentioned (tried, tested, used widely) is becoming a critical issue for my company. Has anyone had success using Morfik in these kind of circumstances? What kind of performance did you achieve?

  I'm using testng to run selenium based tests in java. I have a bunch of repeated tests. Generally they do all the same except of test name and one parameter. I want to automate generation of it. I was thinking about using factory. Is there a way to generate tests with different name? What would be the best approach to this? • Cheap windows driver signing for 64 bit Windows 7

  I need to install the libusb-win32 driver on Windows 7 64 bit machines. This driver is open source so it is not digitally signed so I want to do this my self but I wonder if this can be done WITHOUT paying lot of money. Is it possible to use a certificate which is NOT signed by Verisign or GlobalSign? Maybe self-signed or by using StartSSL instead? And if yes, how do I do it? According to this howto I have to use a "cross-certificate" (And there are only six available on the Microsoft list and most of them are for CAs which are no longer active) I don't care if the user is confronted with a warning message. I can even accept if the user has to install a special CA certificate first. I only require that the driver runs without manually disabling the signature check on each windows startup.

• Check wether Excel file is Password protected

  I am trying to open an Excel (xlsm) file via VBA. It may or may not be protected with a (known) password. I am using this code: On Error Resume Next Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw opened = (Err.Number=0) On Error Goto 0 Now, this works fine if the workbook has a password. But if it is unprotected, it can NOT be opened. Apparently this is a bug in XL2007 if there is also workbook structure protection active. (http://vbaadventures.blogspot.com/2009/01/possible-error-in-excel-2007.html). On old XL2003, supplying a password would open both unprotected and password protected file. I tried: Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw If (Err.Number <> 0) Then workbooks.open filename This works for unprotected and protected file. However if the user enters a wrong password it runs into the second line and pops up the "enter password" prompt, which I do not want. How to get around this?

• AnkhSVN - How to remove old URLs from list of URLs in the "Open from Subversion" dialog box

  I work for a small company and am the sole developer using AnkhSVN to version my code. For the server side I am using VisualSVN v2.5.8. The server is installed on my own machine (on a different drive). I have a few repositories that I created about two years ago that have been working fine. We recently completed an Active Directory Domain Rename (that's another story) so the FQDN of my machine changed so the domain portion is no longer the same as what it was when the server portion was installed. I managed to get AnkhSVN to connect to the repositories so everything is working again but the URL list that comes up on the "Open from Subversion" dialog box still has all the old URLs. How can I remove them? I've searched everywhere I can think of looking for this list but can't seem to find it anywhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Chuck R.

  I am modifying the QuartzDemo application to include swipe detection while UIView is active (a PDF page being displayed in it via Quartz). This will not work, the event never gets to the QuartzView.m because it sits under scrollview? touchesBegan works fine and I can use single tap. How can I go about with catching touchesMoved while PDF page is being displayed? I need a simple example with code that does nothing on touchesMoved, I'll build up on that later. Please keep in mind that I still want to use the UIScrollview as it is and show PDF content based on selection in that scrollview.

Something like this: conditions[:offset] = (options[:page].to_i - 1) * PAGE_SIZE unless options[:page].blank? conditions[:limit] = options[:limit] ||= PAGE_SIZE scope = Promo.enabled.active results = scope.all conditions I'd like to add a computed column to the query (at the point when I'm now calling scope.all). Something like this: (ACOS(least(1,COS(0.71106459055501)*COS(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ COS(0.71106459055501)*SIN(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ SIN(0.71106459055501)*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lat))))*3963.19) as accurate_distance Is there a way to do that without just using find_by_sql and rewriting the whole existing query? • Mutex takes a long while to unlock

  I have two threads. First one is something like this: while(1) { pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex); //DO WORK pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex); pthread_yield(); } The second one locks the mutex on user event, change some settings and unlocks. Thread one does ~ 200 iterations a second. However on occasion it takes the second thread up to 3 seconds to get active (to unlock the mutex). How do I ensure faster response?

• I have a BHO in c++ and i need to block some keyboard controls (Ctrl-o) in a i-frame.

  I need to know of a way to prevent the user to 'open a new url' (with Ctrl-o) as soon as he has the focus on my sidebar (right-sided iframe). In fact, my sidebar offers some controls and the user should not be able to 'navigate' to other website through the sidebar. I'm using a bho in C++ using ATL(active template library), but maybe if anyone knows of a simplier way like in JS(javascript) or PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor) ? Any ideas is appreciated. How reliable is to implement that check like this? Try to acquire a lock on a file (w/ FileChannel) If succeeds, keep lock and continue execution If fails, exit and refuse to run the main body I am aware of software like the Tanuki wrapper, however, I'm longing for a simpler(maybe not portable) solution. Regarding PIDFILE(s): I want to avoid using them if possible, as I don't have administrative rights on the machine, neither knowledge in AIX's shell programming.

• Display Computer Info on an ASP.NET Page

  I want to build a page for end users to visit (in our MPLS Network) and it show the following information in regards to them: Computer Name OS Disk Space Memory IP Address Active Directory User Name Password Expiration Time (As defined by Global Policy) Maybe a few other things such as Trend Micro Office current version vs. their version, # of MS Updates needed (we utilize WSUS), and a few other things in the future. • What is the Simplest Possible Payment Gateway to Implement? (using Django)

  I'm developing a web application that will require users to either make one time deposits of money into their account, or allow users to sign up for recurring billing each month for a certain amount of money. I've been looking at various payment gateways, but most (if not all) of them seem complex and difficult to get working. I also see no real active Django projects which offer simple views for making payments. Ideally, I'd like to use something like Amazon FPS, so that I can see online transaction logs, refund money, etc., but I'm open to other things. I just want the EASIEST possible payment gateway to integrate with my site. I'm not looking for anything fancy, whatever does the job, and requires < 10 hours to get working from start to finish would be perfect. I'll give answer points to whoever can point out a good one.
