• Cannot get mod_rewrite to work on Mac OSX Mountain Lion

  I have tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work. I am trying to get the example code from Larry Ullman's Advanced PHP book to work. His instructions were a bit lacking so I had to do some research. What have I done wrong? FYI even when I set up an extremely simple rule or use the root as the rewrite base, it still fails. I have also verified the mod_rewrite module is running. I am really angry.

• Strange Apache Webdav situation (OSX Will connect, Ubuntu will not)

  So basically my situation is that I have an Apache 2.2 webserver running on Linux on another box, and I have it configured to serve up webdav. Now here's the weird part, I can access the server just fine on my Mac using the "Connect to Server" dialog (even moved like 5GB of files over the connection). On my Ubuntu desktop cadaver will connect as well and allow me to browse. However when I try to use Xmarks (BYOS Edition) or the GNOME "Connect to Server" dialog, it gives me a 403 Forbidden error. My server does digest authentication if that makes any difference. • Easy_install the wrong version of python modules (Mac OS)

  I installed Python 2.7 on my Mac. When typing "python" in terminal, it shows: $ python Python 2.7 (r27:82508, Jul 3 2010, 20:17:05) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5493)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. The Python version is correct here. But when I try to easy_install some modules. The system will install the modules with python version 2.6 which are not able be imported to Python 2.7. And of course I can not do the functions I need in my code. I just want them to be able to put files in there but not see the content of the folder and prohibit them from deleting any files in there. Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem and how I can fix it ?

• cannot commit svn with dav on ubuntu

  So there are several similar questions on serverfault ... but the solution is still eluding me. I am running subversion on ubuntu 9.04 .. through apache2.2.x .... i get Commit failed (details follow): Can't make directory '/home/kirb/svn/dav/activities.d': Permission denied when i attempt to commit. It is deffinitely a permissions issue... but how to fix it is still eluding me. my repository is in /home/kirb/svn. http://serverfault.com/questions/61573/svn-commit-error says to chgrp .. but i dont seem to be able to. all the apache dav stuff seems to be working though. I can access my repository just fine through a browser. apologies if i am missing something simple here. • Can I tell if crashplan has backed up a particular file in a particular state?

  I would like to be able to tell, programmatically, if CrashPlan has backed-up a particular file, including the current updates to that file. I.e., that the current contents of a file are backed up. It's relatively easy to tell when CrashPlan last backed up a file: its file name appears in /usr/local/crashplan/log/backup_files.log.0, and with some accuracy, I could compare the backup time with the last modification time to the file, but that method appears to be somewhat dubious. A couple of methods I could think of, but I don't know how: Compare the current file to CrashPlan's metadata about that file. This needs knowledge about the format of CrashPlan's "cache" files as well as the hashing system used. This might be achievable through the CLI, but the CLI is just a portal into the GUI, and I need something that's scriptable. Restore the file to a temporary directory, and compare it. Unfortunately, there is no CLI to do restores; the GUI is the only way. I'll describe what I'm trying to achieve. It would be nice to know how to do the above, even if there are alternative methods for the following: I'm using CrashPlan for continuous backups to my PostgreSQL database, using WAL archives. In the current configuration, the archive command copies the files to an archive directory, which is backed up by CrashPlan. Every so often I manually confirm (or just trust) a group of WALs are backed up, and remove them from the archive directory, and occasionally do a restore through the GUI to ensure I can retrieve current and "deleted" WALs. The xlog directory is backed-up, too, so I have a good chance of doing a near-full restore even if a particular xlog hasn't been archived by PostgreSQL yet. I'd like to be able to automate this process, which necessitates either confirming the backup status and recency, or automating a restore for comparison purposes. (As a bonus, if the method is trustworthy, I could turn the "archive_command" from "copy to archive directory" into "confirm CrashPlan has backed up the current version", and do away with the archive directory completely). (And, yes, I'm doing regular pg_dumpall's, in addition to the above.)

After mounting the volume and formatting, I have placed all my project files in /mnt/ebs1/project. the wsgi file is in /mnt/ebs1/project/apache/django.wsgi. • How can I enable IIS to run Perl scripts?

  we're trying to get awstats up and running on our IIS6 server. awstats is running fine and generating output and all that jazz... no problem there. When trying to change the selected month/year in the output page though, it is trying to run awstats.pl through IIS, and coming up with a 404 error. To debug I made a simple hello.pl in my root, and tried to run that, also 404s. I followed the directions on this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245225 regarding installing ActiveState Perl and then configuring IIS. I added the extension mapping on my directory and registered the web services extension as directed. The perl scripts all run fine and output if run from the command line, so I know perl is good, but I can't get IIS to find the files. Here is the configuration on my the home directory tab of my site: Here is the configuration of my web service extension: I turned on directory browsing for this site, and when i get the listing of the directory, IIS actually does show the .pl files being in the directory. But if I click on one of them, I get the 404 error. 12/17 15:22 Also tried adding .pl as a mime-type on my site's configuration. This did not help. 12/17 16:57 Also tried Everyone Read/Execute permissions on both the Perl direcory and the directory housing awstats. This did not help.

• Using <VirtualHost> over .htaccess for mod_rewrite

  I have a LAMP stack installed on Ubuntu 12.10 with three sites created under /etc/apache2/sites-available, all of which are working. My problem lies in wanting to use those files over .htaccess for appending the .php file extension from the URL. • Multiple Rails apps on same subdomain?

  I recently decided to try out Rails. When working with PHP, I simply had all of my PHP projects in the same directory. For example, I may have http://ubuntu/app1, http://ubuntu/app2, etc. I created a subdomain for Rails (http://ruby.ubuntu), installed Rails and Passenger and everything is working. However, I may be wrong, but it looks like I can only have one Rails app per subdomain? I want to be able to store all of my Rails apps in /var/www/ruby. I tried changing DocumentRoot to /var/www/ruby, but I don't think it's as simple as that. When I browse to a Rails app's Welcome Aboard page and click on "About my application's environment," I get a 404 page, but when the DocumentRoot is set to the public directory, I get the expected result. I don't want to have to create a new subdomain every time I create a new project. Is there any way I can make it so I can store all of my apps in /var/www/ruby, and browsing to http://ruby.ubuntu will let me access all of my Rails apps there? That way if I want to create a new app, all I have to do is rails new app, no Apache .htaccess or VirtualHost configuration required.
