Where can work-at-home coders go to find other coders to real-time chat with and get support like they were on a large team at an established company?

I used to work in an office surrounded by a large team of programmers where we all used the same languages and had different expertises. Now that I am on my own forming a startup at home, my productivity is suffering because I miss having people I can talk to for specific help, inspiration and reality checks when working on a coding problem. I don't have access to business incubators or shared (co-working) office spaces for startups so I need to chat with people virtually. Where can I go for real-time chat with other programmers and developers (currently I'm looking for people developing for the web, javascript and python) for live debugging and problem-solving of the tasks I am working on? And what other resources can I use to get fellow programmer support?

Do I need to use any other attributes other than CssClassProperty to enabled design-time support?

Hi, I'm trying to provide the same design-time support that the CssClass provides on some custom properties of a server control. The documentation suggests that decorating the property with the CssClassProperty is all that's required. [CssClassProperty] public string SomeOtherCssClass{get;set;} This has no effect, in vs2008 or vs2010. I've looked at the WebControl class using reflector and implemented all the attributes, and every combination thereof, to my property and still no class dropdown. Some blog posts suggest that the use of the Editor attribute but a) there's not mention of it in the documentation and b) none of editors which are remotely related to css classes have any effect either. Am I missing something to enable this feature? Thanks in advance, Keith.

Starting with version 3.0.1, Hibernate added the SessionFactory.getCurrentSession() method. Initially, this assumed usage of JTA transactions, where the JTA transaction defined both the scope and context of a current session. Given the maturity of the numerous stand-alone JTA TransactionManager implementations, most, if not all, applications should be using JTA transaction management, whether or not they are deployed into a J2EE container. Based on that, the JTA-based contextual sessions are all you need to use.

Should my connected web parts support IWebPartField, IWebPartRow and IWebPartData?

I've been writing some simple webparts, and they communicate via a custom interface type. That's working fine. I've got one ConnectionProvider, with a variety of ConnectionConsumers. I see that the OOTB SharePoint webparts provide many standard connections, apparently through IWebPartField and IWebPartRow (IWebPartData seems less supported). I've tried to add a IWebPartRow interface to a provider, and found that it's not actually useful (apparently), unless it's shareing data that the OOTB components use, such as images, urls and users. Well, that's the impression I got, anyway... I've only done a quick experiment, and found it quite difficult to implement and test. Is there any point in spending time trying to add support for the standard webpart interfaces?

I'm using JetBrains PhpStorm, which is probably the most epic IDE I've ever used. The question is simple. How do I add Compass syntax support to it? I've got it installed, it renders and works, but PhpStorm still complains about undefined imports and mixins. How can I resolve this? Can Compass be included as an external library? Edit: I'd just like to note that this feature request is for the RubyMine IDE (also by JetBrains), it's not for PhpStorm/WebStorm.

Is there "native" support for JSON in JDK6 Script Engine?

I'm using JDK6the standard Scripting. I need to store and retrieve some JavaScript Objects that also contain Java Objects to JSON. I loaded the json2.js into the ScriptENgine and can use it fine without issue if the objects are all created in the Scrip Engine. The moment I try to use my own Java classes, I get some errors like "object does not support toJSON" errors. I did not find much about JSON in Java Scripting / Rhino context. Am I doing something totally wrong? What's the best way of achieving the requirement?

Why CSS Transitions -module does not support image-to-image transitions?

Hi, I've read the spec for CSS Transitions Module Level 3 and I'd like to know why it does not support image-based transitions. According to the draft, the background-image transitions are only supported when using with gradients. Both Webkit and Gecko seems to follow this practice. It's just that I see this as a major drawback. HTML 5 and CSS 3 could become the killer of Flash, but if I can't even transit between two images, I don't see how one could have beautiful menus without Flash.

Does Process.StartInfo.Arguments support a UTF-8 string?

Can you use a UTF-8 string as the Arguments for a StartInfo? I am trying to pass a UTF-8 (in this case a Japanese string) to an application as a console argument. Something like this (this is just an example! (cmd.exe would be a custom app)) var process = new System.Diagnostics.Process(); process.StartInfo.Arguments = "/K \"echo ????????\""; process.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd.exe"; process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; process.Start(); process.WaitForExit(); Executing this seems to loose the UTF-8 string and all the target application sees is "echo ?????????" When executing this command directly on the command line (by pasting the arguments) the target application receives the string correctly even though the command line itself doesn't seem to display it correctly. Do I need to do anything special to enable UTF-8 support in the arguments or is this just not supported?

I recently ran up against a wall doing some bash shell programming where an associative array would have solved my problems. I googled about features of the Korn shell and learned that it supports associative arrays, so I installed Cygwin's pdksh (public domain korn shell). Why do C# automatic properties not support default values like VB 2010?

Looking at the new VB 2010 features, I stumbled upon support for Auto-Implemented Properties. Since I'm working with C#, this seemed quite familiar, but I noticed that VB did add a feature I would love to have in C#: setting a arbitrary default value for the auto-implemented property: I really like the clean usage of auto-properties in C#. This would save us the effort of introducing a backing field and hooking it up to the property everytime we simply need a default value, thereby cluttering up the code unnecessarily. I was wondering why this wasn't introduced in C# as well? What could be the rationale for not doing this? Is a syntax discussion going on, or are there technical limitations to implementing this?

Tips on refactoring existing .net applications to support localization?

We're going global. I've been tasked with refactoring our existing products to support localization. Last week I shunned using resource files (.resx) in favor of a home-baked database look-up method. After hitting a serious snag with that, I'm back to the microsoft way of using resx. All the documentation I've seen so far details how to create new "World-Ready" applications, but I don't see anything on changing existing applications. Is my only recourse to touch the application form by form and control by control to have it point to newly created resource files? Any good sources/links for internationalizing your apps?

WP7/silverlight Images does not stay within a grid/stackpanel when using the toolkit to provide gesture support

I have few buttons and below that I am displaying an image and have used the WP7/Silverlight toolkit to provide support for Gestures. Everything works fine, until i do gestures like pinch and then moving it up/down. Both these gestures work fine but they do not seem to respect the stackpanel/grid the image is present in and they go over that and on top of the buttons. Do u know how to restrict these? hii, i am working on SNMP from last few days,i have develope a small application(SNMP Agent) which * Run on 161 port. * Have a tree structured OID support. * Respond to all Get,GetNext,Set Pdu Request types. * Tested with some SNMP Managers(free available) by get and set the values of the OID's. BUT,now question is when i tried it with Cacti it will not respond anything,but detect windows snmp service..it just respond to the requests of the SNMP Managers. So,Is it mandatory to provide mib with SNMP Agent??.

I read that SHA-1 is being retired from the FIPS 180-2 standard. Apparently there are weaknesses in SHA-1 that led to this decision. Can anyone elaborate on the basis for that decision? Are there implications for the use of SHA-1 in commercial applications? My real questions are: What is the state of SHA-2 support in various class libraries and platforms? Netbeans has Realy Bad FTP support , Forces me to download all Files even before I can continue

Hello Friends , have started using Netbeans recently after using Aptana, phpdesigner and Notepad++ . I love Netbeans for it's speed and it has almost everything I want except for the fact that the FTP support is really Bad. To start working on a FTP server , I have to download all the files to my localhost first which is such a waste of bandwidth & if those files are many ie. 1000+ files then it's really annoying . I have tried mounting remote FTP as local filesystem in Windows and then using Netbeans to access it but that does'nt work out too .. If anybody using netbeans a lot for PHP development can guide me on this , then I would be highly obliged.. this trivial problem is keeping me from using this awesome IDE . Thanks & Regards .

Are there any sFTP clients that support a proxy that uses NTLM authentication?

The title pretty much summarizes the question. We have deployed an sFTP server that needs to be accessed from our client's MS Windows Pc's that reside within a restricted local area network. The only way they can get out for their Intranet is to use an HTTP proxy that requires NTLM authentication. From what I understand all open-source sFTP clients (FilleZilla,WinSCP,etc) do NOT support NTLM authentication (Because of legal issues). I know that there are workarounds to this (installing a local proxy at the machine that understands NTLM) but this would break all sorts of security policies of our client. So my question is : Does anyone know of any sFTP client that supports NTLM ?

Good day, I've been trying to build a perfect footer who sticks at the bottom of the browser window after it's content. And I got help here @ Stack Overflow previously. But after a while, and doing a few tests, found out that after the browser window is resized, and then I scroll down , the footer overlaps...it is causing me a big headache right now and I'd like to fix this so I can move on. jeditable not updating browser display - leaves "click to edit..." after succesful edit

I am using jeditable fairly simply and it all works fine, updates the database, etc. The only problem I have is after the user types the new value data and hits enter it doesn't update the field in the browser to show the new value - instead it puts "Click to edit..." in place of it. Am I missing something like a return value from my php file? the php fucntion just takes the args and updates the database - and it works fine. When I scroll the page (lots of text gets injected into the page -- it is a full-text search app) the lightgray background is painted right across the text, as shown in the attached image. Is there a way to cause the browser to recalculate page-depth after injecting content? Or is this problem related to this line: titleDiv.innerHTML += content; Is it better to add titleDiv's content a node at a time? Is it possible to send a SOAP request directly from a browser to service provider? And then parse the output in javascript to show the result?
