• How to synchronize SQL Server 2008 database with SQL Server 2005 database?

  I am using VS 2008 Team Suite and SQL Server 2008 in my development environment. I am deploying to a shared-host website with shared-host SQL Server 2005. I want to push changes from my development environment to my production host. I tried using Data | Schema Compare... and it reports to me that it does not support SQL Server 2008. What do people use for this (Besides Red-Gate tools - I use those at my day job, and they rock...this is a volunteer thing for my son's school)? I am looking for something very inexpensive if not free.

• Qooxdoo REST JSON request problem - unexpected token and then timeout

  Hello! I am learning Qooxdoo framework and I am trying to make it work with a small Django web service. Django webservice just returns JSON data like this: { "name": "Football", "description": "The most popular sport." } Then I use the following code to query that url: var req = new qx.io.remote.Request(url, "GET", "application/json"); req.toggleCrossDomain(); req.addListener("completed", function(e) { alert(e.getContent()); }); req.send(); Unfortunately when I execute the code I get unexpected token error and then request timeouts. • gcc std=gnu++0x option

  Hi everyone, I need to compile a C++ code that uses std=gnu++0x option to the g++ compiler in the Makefile.am , As this option is compatible only with gcc 4.3 and above, the build crashes on my machine where i have gcc 4.2. What are my alternatives ? I tried removing that option from the Makefile.am but that reports some other error. Do i need to install gcc 4.3 or above? How can I do it in ubuntu hardy through apt-get ? Thanks.

  Which project tracking tool do you use? Does it allow programmers to bill hours worked to projects/tasks? Does it allow to track items promised vs. items delivered? Does it allow to forecast personnel needs when you have only a ballpark estimate of how many hours you are going to need for different task types? Does it integrate with your bug tracker? [Mantis] Does it integrate with your source control tool? [Subversion] Does it allow you to easily publish your schedule and current priorities to team members? Does it produce reports on any or all of the above? Am I even right in calling a tool that does those things a "Project tracking/management tool"? What does your tool have that makes you love it and use it every day? I don't really care about Gantt charts. I find Microsoft Project quite clunky for this needs (although I'm hardly an expert user).

• Get correct output from UTF-8 stored in VarChar using Entity Framework or Linq2SQL?

  Borland StarTeam seems to store its data as UTF-8 encoded data in VarChar fields. I have an ASP.NET MVC site that returns some custom HTML reports using the StarTeam database, and I would like to find a better solution for getting the correct data, for a rewrite with MVC2. I tried a few things with Encoding GetBytes and GetString, but I couldn't get it to work (we use mostly Delphi at work); then I figured out a T-SQL function to return a NVarChar from UTF-8 stored in a VarChar, and created new SQL views which return the data as NVarChar, but it's slow. The actual problem appears like this: “description†instead of “description”, in both SSMS and in a webpage when using Linq2SQL Is there a way to get the proper data out of these fields using Entity Framework or Linq2SQL?

• Importing war file into eclipse and build path problem

  Hi, I am facing some weird problem when importing .war file into eclipse. The problem is, the build folder does not contain any necessary class folder. So when I try to set the build path, eclipse reports "Error while adding to build path. Reason: cannot nest output folder 'projectName/build/class' inside 'projectName/build'. From what I understand, 'build' folder is what classes get collected(as build version) right? I tried to ignore build path and just export .war file into tomcat server, but somehow servlet file keeps showing old code, which I changed in eclipse. So, I am thinking without proper build folder, exported .war will not contain modified servlect code.( I am sorry if this doesn't sound clear) What can I do to fix this problem? I already tried to create a whole new workspace and restarted eclipse several times and it didn't solve the problem.

  I've recently installed and started using TFS. Mainly using for source repository initially and then will get into using the Work Item features. I'm moving from using Vault as repository and have some questions on best practices for setting up the project structure. My current structure from Vault is: Projects - CustomerName1 -- Application1 -- Application2 - CustomerName2 -- Application1 -- Application2 Can I have a smiliar structure in TFS? Is there any good documentation that has real examples and instructions on how to set this up? From what I see is all real basic and the books I have don't have real-life repository examples that mimic the structure I have. I have created a new Team Project called CustomerName1, then added other Team Projects, Application1, underneath CustomerName1. However, I lose on the Application1 the separate folders like Work Items, Documents, Reports, and Builds. So this doesn't appear set-up correctly. Thanks ...

  I've set up my report with params and it's value. When I run the page, it wants me to click the View Report button, but I need it to just run instead of interacting. Any ideas on this? • Grails Testing hickups

  I have two testing questions. Both are probably easily answered. The first is that I wrote this unit test in Grails: void testCount() { mockDomain(UserAccount) new UserAccount(firstName: "Ken").save() new UserAccount(firstName: "Bob").save() new UserAccount(firstName: "Dave").save() assertEquals(3, UserAccount.count()) } For some reason, I get 0 returned back. Did I forget to do something? The second question is for those who use IDEA. What should I be running - IDEA's junit tests, or grails targets? I have two options. Also, why does IDEA say that my tests pass and it provides a green light even though the test above actually fails? This will really drive me nuts if I have to check the test reports in html every time I run my tests..... Help?

• Are there any programs to aid in the mass-editing of Visual SourceSafe checkin comments?

  I know that in Visual SourceSafe you can go in and drill down to the history of an individual file and then drill down to an individual check-in and apply a comment to the check-in that way but that's tedious and time consuming - if you have a lot of files that were checked in at the same time and you want the same comment to apply to all of them this will take forever. I use the tool VSSReporter to generate reports of checkins and other stuff from VSS, but it cannot edit anything, only report on them. Are there any tools which will let you go back and retroactively apply comments to check-ins in an efficient and easy manner?

• Bing search API using Jsonp not working, invalid label

  I'm running gcov over some C code with a switch statement. I've written test cases to cover every possible path through that switch statement, but it still reports a branch in the switch statement as not taken and less than 100% on the "Taken at least once" stat. The output indicates eight branches on the switch and one (branch 6) not taken. What are all those branches and how do I get 100% coverage?

• Use of COM object in IIS 7

  Hi all, I am currently moving an ASP.NET web-project from an IIS 6 to a IIS 7 hosting environment. Everything seems to be running OK, except my calls to a COM object. I can perfectly instantiate an object of the COM type, but when I call one of its methods, the IIS crashes. The event log reports an error code "0xc0000374", which indicates a heap corruption. When I run the application inside the visual studio development server, everything goes well and the COM object code gets executed without any errors. This is also the case when the application is hosted on an IIS 6 machine. I have looked through all settings of the IIS 7 and have not found anything configurable for COM objects, like security or ... I have been struggling with this for a while and I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any experience deploying COM objects on IIS 7? Your help would be very appreciated!

• ReportViewer height issue. Hiding scrollbars.

  Hi, I'm using MSSQL 2005 Reporting Services and in this case I need to display some reports on an ASP.NET page using the ReportViewer control (I guess thats the only way, right?). The problem is that I can't get the property SizeToReportContent to work. When displaying the report, I get a vertical scrollbar because the report is too large. It looks like an iframe window. Searching on google it seems to be a bug. It can be fixed by setting AsyncRendering to false but I don't want that. I need another solution. I was wondering if it's possible to set the height on the report element using JavaScript after the report has been loaded? Or do you know of another solution? This is really annoying. I can manually (i.e. via export LANG=en_DK.UTF-8 and export LANG=en_DK) test that the unit tests run with the ant build script behaves differently, but I need to set the environment variable from ant. I have tried setting it using these methods (with the shell $LANG set to en_DK.UTF-8): using -D on the command line: ant -DLANG=en_DK using a build.properties file with the line LANG=en_DK in it using the following statements in the build.xml file (sorry for the formatting, I can't get SO to display it otherwise): : <property environment="ANTENV"/> <property name="ANTENV.LANG" value="en_DK"/> Using any of the three possibilities, and when run with -debug, ant reports that: Override ignored for property "LANG" What can I do to set the LANG environment variable from within ant?

  If I have a folder structure that looks like this: / /bin/myComponent.cfc /reports/index.cfm How do I initiate myComponent.cfc from index.cfm? myService = createObject("component", "bin.myComponent"); Using the dot syntax, I know how to go to deeper folders, but how to do I go up a folder, and down into the other folder? Using slash syntax it would be something like this: ../bin/myComponent.cfc But createObject() doesn't work that way. I'd like to keep a relative path so that I can move this folder to another server without breaking the paths. Ideas? Thanks!

  I'm trying to make a statistics page where it will show several data and charts. The charts need to be pictures so that the user can save it/drag-and-drop to his/her personal reports. I'm using Gruff Graphs for Ruby to produce the charts but I don't know the best way to display the results safe and protected. Some of my ideas/tries are: save the chart to a file (jpg, png)? problem: data is available to anyone (don't have access to cron, to delete data from time to time) render in the browser (has to work on IE)? Use javascript (Raphaël—JavaScript Library) or Google API and output a PDF report (need plugin or gem, right)? use send_data? i've tried to output other way than inline, because I needs to show other data, is it possible?   In my VB.net apps i make use of Linq2SQL and Reportviewer with RDLC reports. With Visual Studio 2010 they upgraded this reportviewer component so you can use the newer RDL specification from 2008. Now I've a problem to show related objects. For example assume you provide an order to the datasource of the report and then you can show something like Fields!Customer.Value.Name where Customer is a related entity. I also got the error in my immediate window: *Warning: The Value expression for the textrun ‘Name_1.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: The specified operation is not valid. (rsRuntimeErrorInExpression)*
