• How can I unify my email, calendar and tasks (2 exchange accounts + 1 gmail)

  This is my situation: I work as a consultant, and thus work out of multiple computers: my work-laptop a desktop at my primary client my desktop at home an android smartphone an android tablet Likewise, I have multiple accounts: A Microsoft Exchange (2010 AFAIK) account A Microsoft Exchange (2007 AFAIK) account A gmail account The most important thing I need is the ability to have events in one calendar affect the free / busy status of all other accounts (so that if I am busy on Monday 9am with an event from my employer's account, it will show that time as busy in my client's account, and in the gmail account. Second thing I need is a unified view of all of my accounts' info: Appointments, email, tasks, and contacts (in that order of importance). I've already tried outlook synchronization tools such as gSyncit, to sync both exchange accounts with gmail, but this creates a mess when updating appointments (deleted appointments sometimes return, timestamps revert). Is there perhaps some way to at least synchronize the free/busy state in a way that all of my calendar apps / accounts will look there to see if I can be invited? • Is Flash a secure content delivery technology for password protected digital content?

  We are working on a project that would be a competitor to Yudu for online publishing and what we are debating is whether to use Flash for content security protection as Yudu does. See for example "The Testicle Cookbok" for which a limited (3-frame) preview is available before a password is requested by the Flash application running in the browser. Do you see any problems with this approach or could you recommend an alternative technology for password proected digital content?

  I have NETGEAR BROADBAND MODEM. I had a desktop and laptop. I had connected internet to dekstop by using Ehternet slot on my modem to my ethernet slot on my Desktop. I need internet connection on my Laptop too. There is another slot in modem which can be connect using USB cable. Whether i can connect the laptop with that USB slot in my modem and use both the computer's internet? whether it will work??

• View Security Server and Direct Connection

  I have a Security Server for my connections from the Internet. This works fine, accept when I enable "Direct Connection to the desktop". I found the following statement on this: If you bypass the secure connection, the client must establish a direct RDP communication to the desktop virtual machine over RDP (port 3389). Does this mean I have to open 3389 (RDP) to the Internet if I want to use Direct Connections? If I disable Direct Connections to get my Security Server working, I have to disable it on my Connection Server. It's my understanding that this means that if I reboot my Connection Server, all the View clients get disconnected. Is there a way I can disable "Direct Connections" for the Security Server, while enabling it for access from the LAN? Tia.

• scp using a password on the command line

  I am trying to write a script that will deploy a build created on my desktop machine (windows/cygwin) to a machine in my test environment (linux). I would like to use scp to copy the build to the target machine. The only account on the target machine is root, and I cannot create a special user for this task. The root user is unable to log in using an ssh key (I suspect that this is configured on the ssh server, but I do not know which configuration options control this). At any rate, I cannot change the configuration of the ssh server. My desktop machine uses Cygwin, and I have ssh installed. What I need is the command-line-fu that will allow me to put the password on the command line. I am aware of the dangers of having a plaintext password in a shell script, but that is not a concern here.

• Resolution of monitor is not supported by motherboard

  I have Desktop with configuration Pentium 4,945 intel chipset board,dual booting with win 7 and ubuntu 10.10 (no graphics card) Recently i purchased Dell IN2020M 20" with native resolution of 1600x900 but my display allow maximum of 1024x768 because of this when i play any video in full screen mode it doesn't play smoothly or frames are refreshed jerkily I have tried updating my VGA driver but its doesn't helping me much. Is there any way to solve this problem ? 1if i want to replace monitor what maximum resolution should i buy ? 2if i want to upgrade(graphics card/motherboard) my desktop what is the minimum configuration to support the current system. • Manage gmail label on iPad

  My iPad is configured with gmail (using an exchange account, not imap but I don't think it is relevant). I would like to create and manage folder in the mail app. I noticed that it is sync to my gmail label. - this feature is not possible in the native mail app, neither in the official gmail app - the only way to do it is to use a pc or a mac (with the gmail desktop version) - in the gmail mobile web version, I cannot find any button to force desktop version. What is the simplest workaround?

• Can DVI look different?

  I have a desktop with an nVidia GT 9500 which has two DVI slots. I have a 24" TN-Panel TFT on that and it looks pretty good. Then I hooked it onto the DisplayPort of my ThinkPad with the Intel HD 3000 card with an DP-DVI adapter and I think that the fonts look even clearer. Both computers run Kubuntu 12.04, although the ThinkPad is freshly set up, while the desktop is migrated from the previous release. Is this a hardware thing or is it just some setting in the anti-aliasing or sub-pixel-hinting?

  I want to remotely control my home desktop PC (running Windows 7 Professional), mainly to perform the following tasks: Downloading email attachments, and sending emails with attachments Running UI-less programs whose only inputs are files and whose only outputs are files So far, the only solution I have found is to use Remote Desktop to connect to my PC, but this is very slow and inefficient, especially when there is no fast Internet connection available other than my cell phone's. I would like to be able to send batch commands to my PC, like: Download an email attachment Use it as input for an UI-less program Save the program's output to a file Send that file to myself as an email attachment Is this possible? How could I do it?

• I'm trying to setup Xvfb to run an GUI app on a remote server with no display

  I have a 3rd party java app that I need to run on a remote server. Unfortunately, the app is designed for the desktop and assumes a GUI is available. The thing is I would like to leave this app running on the remote server without having to tie up my desktop machine with a persistent VNC connection to the remote machine. I'm trying to setup Xvfb on the remote machine so emulate a graphical environment, connect to the remote machine via VNC to launch the app and configure parameters and then log off and let it run. Here's what I have so far: I have ubuntu 11.04 server apt-get install xvfb apt-get install fluxbox apt-get install x11vnc Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1024x768x16 & fluxbox & At this point I run into a problem because it gives a very undescriptive error: Cannot connect to server. How do I know if the server is running and that it's running properly?

• Windows 8 Program Sharing?

  How do I, as the administrator, share the Skype program with a user on the same PC? I tried to download Skype to the user from the windows store that said it was blocked and I must contact the administrator. The Skype icon appears on the user desktop but with an X in the corner with no way to allow it to work as the administrator. In the administrator desktop the Skype icon appears without the x and it does work. I have tried to research this issue and so far all I have been able to find and do is the enable $admin share at this link http://www.intelliadmin.com/index.php/2012/10/windows-8-enable-the-admin-share/ Now that I have done this how do I use it to share the Skype program? • How to automount a Truecrypt volume before login in Windows 7?

  I have an external hard drive containing all my documents, and it is encrypted with a password via Truecrypt. I'd like my desktop computer at home to automatically mount the volume prior to my logging in (so that it can be used as my user folder) without asking me for a password. (Yes, the password can be saved in plain text on my desktop's hard drive - that's okay.) For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to do this that actually works though. Tried using the Task Scheduler to schedule a mount when the computer starts up, and it works, but the volume is only accessible by my user account after I log in. (Haven't tried every combination of users/options for the scheduled task, so maybe there's something else there I need to try.) Also tried adding a startup script for my user account that runs on login, which evidently is too late to set up the user's profile folder. Anybody ever successfully achieve this or something like it?

  I recently setup a Windows 2008 R2 server on Amazon EC2. I now want to move an application I created on my local desktop to this server. However, having never done this before I have no idea how to transfer files from my local desktop to the online server. What is the standard convention for transferring files from local machine to the server? As a side note, why can I not download the .NET framework 4 .exe file? Clicking the download link does nothing... (it is already a trusted site)

• How to fix Ubuntu 10.10 black screen from terminal?

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 on an Intel Atom mainboard (Intel D945GCLF2) with CRT that has been running Ubuntu 9.x previously. Both, Desktop live CD / installer and alternate install CD cause the screen to go black (and the status LED blinks). I was able to get a bit further into the boot process with nomodeset as parameter with the Live CD, unfortunately I can't pass GRUB any parameters now that I have used the alternate Install CD by pressing 'e', it just boots. So now I have Ubuntu installed, I get a terminal with CTRL-ALT-F1 but I don't know what I need to do now or how to adjust resolution or video settings from command line.

  Hi, I have set a script to run at Linux startup. The script contains a following line of code dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda5 ?> result.txt Now, when my Linux Desktop appear, result.txt contain dd: opening '/dev/sda2': Permission denied If I prefix the dd command with sudo as: sudo dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda5 ?> result.txt the result.txt contains sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified Is there a way I can get around this problem? What I want is to copy 2nd parititon to 5th when a user logs in no matter if he is root, admin, Desktop or an unprivileged user. Thanks a lot as always.

  I've been looking around for an RSS reader that can handle more than 1 google account? I have multiple gmail addresses for different things in life. I separate mails this way and also RSS feeds. This works fine on google reader, but i would like to have a desktop app that can handle multiple accounts, like Thunderbird can handle multiple mail accounts. All the desktop clients I've found so far ask you for 1 google account and that's where it ends. You can't add anymore.

• rsync not using forwarded ssh credentials

  I have a situation where I would like to rsync some files from a remote server to a server in my office. The source server requires key-based authentication and I have an appropriate key set up on my desktop machine. If I ssh into the local server and then ssh to the remote server, ssh agent forwarding works correctly. However, when I try to rsync over ssh I get permission denied. So, Desktop -- Local server -- Remote server. When ssh'd onto the local server ssh user@remote works, but rsync -avPe ssh user@remote:/src /dest does not - Permission denied (publickey).

  I have updated to Windows 8 and got Internet Explorer 10, but I don't get the full screen mode, is just like another desktop app. All links on the Windows Store Apps (Bing, News...) redirect to the old desktop and open my default browser. I have been looking on the IE10 options but I don't see this option. How can I solve this? • games and movies become too slow after some time

  On my gaming desktop, I was fixing my desktop's power supply when something seemed to burn (I got that stinging burning smell). However when I turned ON the computer (it was OFF before), everything seemed to be fine. However, I have noticed that now it becomes too slow if I play a game or movie on it. I am talking about the computer becoming painfully slow after about 5 minutes into the movie/game (it works fine otherwise e.g. browsing), it becomes so slow I can see individual frames from movies/games. What could be the problem? A fried video card? friend memory (RAM), something else? • Putting shortcuts onto user's machines using AD

  I just handled a small task, which I would like to automate through Active Directory. We’ve written a few Intranet applications which get used a lot here. Occasionally someone will have to go to the front desk and work on something there, while one of the receptionists are away. They’ll always call us to have us put a shortcut onto their desktop linking to these Intranet applications. It’s just a bit of a nuisance, and I’m sure that AD could be used to automate creating shortcuts on user’s desktops pointing to our Intranet applications. The only thing is, I don’t know how to do this, and being a small shop that we are, we don’t have a system administrator at this time. So, how do we automate the creation of desktop shortcuts to websites, using AD in a Windows 2003 Server environment?

• Windows 7/8 can't connect to an N Router

  I have a router running OpenWRT backfire, with N and A/B/G being broadcast. A linux laptop, and a Mac laptop can see the N network and connect to it (or at least they could last weekend). But there is now a Windows 7 Desktop with a B/G/N wireless card, and a Windows 8 Laptop with a B/G/N wireless card that can't see the N network only the B/G broadcast. The B/G and N have different SSID's and Encryption ( WEP and WPA2 PSK respectively ). The N SSID isn't even visible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot further? • Can I store multiple private keys in one Putty PPK file?

  I have multiple accounts on a server, say for example red webadmin testuser At the moment I have private keys for these in separate PPK files. I have shortcuts to these on the desktop - so clicking the desktop icon launches Pageant and prompts for a password. After doing this for each PPK file, I can log in and out of the server(s) multiple times during the day using various user-ids without entering passwords. So far so good. Could I streamline this further by somehow combining all these PPK files into a single PPK file? If so how?

• Is Clonezilla a good option for a daily batch-file-based backup of a Windows XP PC?

  Having just been through the process of rebuilding a Windows XP desktop machine when the disk died, I'm anxious to make it a lot less painful. I didn't lose any data, but reinstalling everything took ages. Clonezilla seems to be a highly mentioned free backup tool. How easy would it be to implement the following: a nightly unattended backup of the desktop's disk image to another network machine (or a second drive in the machine), hopefully with compression. restore from that image using USB boot media. so that if I come in to work and find the hard drive has tanked, it is just a matter of replacing the dead drive with a new one, booting from the USB stick, choosing the image to restore, and then finding something else to do for an hour or two. When it is finished I would hopefully be back to where I was.

  I am trying to run a Linux desktop and Windows desktop simultaneously with a KVM for maximum productivity. Also running three monitors. I need a KVM that can do 3x DVI @ 1920x1080 + 2x usb (mouse and keyboard) + toslink for two machines. What would you suggest? I ask on here because I have searched quite a bit and have yet to find a KVM with these requirements. (I would be open to something like modifying 3x regular KVMs to control them with one button or similar) Thanks! • Cannot open some websites

  Hi all, I have a very specific problem. We have a wifi router at home which supports three laptops and a desktop. For the past month or so, I've been unable to open a number of websites on our HP desktop, Dell laptop and my Macbook. These include everything connected with http://wordpress.org and several others. The page simply refuses to load. I can't access some other websites as well. I've tried everything. We've rebooted the router, deleted all the cookies/download history, but nothing works. I've tried accessing these websites on IE, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Strangely, when friends use their laptops on the same wifi connection, the websites open just fine. What do I do? I'm getting desperate here. Jayashree
