  • Weird TPS peaks on SQL 2005 replicated database.

    - by SuperCoolMoss
When monitoring the Transactions/Sec using perfmon on one of my SQL2005 replicated databases - I'm seeing the TPS increase to 1000 and then immediately drop back down again - this happens every 5 seconds. I'm not sure what's causing this - is this something to do with replication? We also have asynchronous statistics set on this particular database. I've tried profiling when the users are not connected - but nothing is writing to the database. ADDED PICTURE AND BOUNTY

  • Devices renamed with udev not working, original device node still there

    - by skerit
I'm trying to rename certain video devices using udev. Here's a rule (broken down for readability): ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{busnum}=="1", ATTR{devpath}=="2", ATTR{idVendor}=="05e1", NAME="video97" It works. /dev/video97 is created But the original /dev/video1 node is STILL there. The even worse, when I try to view the /dev/video97 node in guvcview it doesn't work, while the original node DOES work.

  • After Windows 8 installation I can't access BIOS settings anymore

    - by Diogo
Today I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on one of my notebook machines and I noticed that I can't access BIOS settings if I use the "Shut down" Windows option on Settings/Power menu. If I use the "Restart" option, my BIOS allow me to enter on it's settings over "F2" again. Is this happening to someone else? I looked over Windows 8 oficial forum and couldn't find such event. Is this something foreseeable to the new Windows 8?

  • Use mouse wheel with numpad using ahk?

    - by MrSnipyCat
I'm on a laptop without a mouse. This means I don't have the middle mouse button/wheel. I tried to use ahk to make my numpad act like a mouse wheel with the middle mouse button. Numpad8::WheelUp Numpad2::WheelDown Numpad5::MButton The problem is that it scrolls up/down 2 times (when I click and release the button). How do I make the wheel scroll only once when I hit the button and not again after releasing it?

  • Firefox password manager - multiple logins for HTTP authentication

    - by pbarney
When you're prompted to login to a site using HTTP authentication (the kind with the pop-up box requesting username/password), Firefox's password manager populates it with only the first stored password for that domain. Is there a way to have Firefox prompt for WHICH account should be used? It is unlike the normal HTML login forms in which you can just press the down arrow to select from multiple login accounts.

  • Hiding mapped drives for all users but letting programs access them

    - by AgainstClint
What I'm looking for (and not sure if it's possible) is that we have 16 mapped network drives that are mapped when any user logs on, what I would like is to cut this down to just one visible drive yet leaving the other ones still usable to certain programs. I would just un-map them, however one of our constantly used programs writes to almost all of the drive letters so they need to be mapped for just that program, however they do not need to be visible to the user. Is this possible?

  • Verizon FiOS Speed concerns

    - by Josh K
I'm working on getting a separate internet connection to run out and I was looking into available options. FiOS claims to offer 25Mb up / 25 Mb down as a maximum rate. Do they have listed minimum rates? Is there anything with fiber I should be concerned about? Special hardware, special routers, availability concerns?

  • FC SAN network high-error rate simulation

    - by Wieslaw Herr
Is there a way to simulate a malfunctioning device or a faulty cable in a FC SAN network? edit: I know shutting down a port on a switch is an option, I'd like to simulate high error rates though. In an ethernet network it would be a simple case of adding a transparent bridge that discards a given percent of the packets, but I have absolutely no idea how to tackle that in an Fibre Channel environment...

  • What is the best way to determine what's locking up SQL Server using a query?

    - by Aplato
Recently our SQL Server is getting bogged down by something. I was wondering what is the best way to check what could be causing the problem by querying the database. This is the best I've found so far: SELECT SPID = s.spid , BlockingSPID = s.blocked , DatabaseName = DB_NAME(s.dbid) , ProgramName = s.program_name , [Status] = s.[status] , LoginName = s.loginame , ObjectName = OBJECT_NAME(objectid, s.dbid) , [Definition] = CAST([text] AS VARCHAR(MAX)) FROM sys.sysprocesses s CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text (sql_handle) WHERE s.spid > 50 ORDER BY DatabaseName , loginName

  • How to determine where debian package was sourced

    - by user169309
How would I trace out which archive(s) in the sources.list a given installed deb package was or (could be) sourced from? I understand that the same package may be indexed by multiple archives. Does "aptitude" log any of this type of information when its installing packages? My aim is to pare down my current sources.list to the minimum set of archives needed to maintain the current set of installed packages.

I can then use the quick tabs button to show the groups open. However, I do not have the "add tab group to favorites" option in the pull down menu for favotites at the Favorite Bar. • windows live playback left and right audio channel

    - by user1254761
I have a multichannel (4x stereo) audiocard (m-audio delta1010lt) and want to playback /playthru some of the channels live. But I am only able to playback/playthru the left channel on each stereo-input (CH1, CH3, CH5, CH7). For CH2,CH4,CH6,CH8 I see the Windows Volume-Indicator going up and down in the Windows Record-Audiosettings but I don't hear any playback sound. Is there a way to playback/playthru all input channels?

  • Innotop and Monit to kill thread using too much resources

    - by pocesar
Instead of restarting the whole MYSQL process, sometimes I just want to kill the offending thread instead of making everything go down. Usually the spike in CPU is when a bot is crawling the first pages of pagination of my site (over 70.000 paginated results, 45 items per page). Is there a way I could do this automatically using monit and innotop? I couldn't find relevant information on Google, that's why I'm asking here. If these two tools aren't par to the task, which ones should I use?

    - by Joseph Sokoly
I have currently been tasked with tracking down an IP KVM for our new data center, but I'm coming up blank on good reviews of KVMs. We're looking at a rack of 5 to 10 servers that would be hooked in. Does anyone have some recommendations on places to research KVMs, or have some of their own recommendations?

  • Is it possible to get a list of running processes with a Cloudwatch Alarm?

    - by jtalarico
We have an EC2 instance (Ubuntu) that has a few java-based applications and lately we're getting hit with high CPU utilization spikes that trigger one of our Cloudwatch alarms. By the time we get into the server to look at the cpu utilization, things have calmed down. What we'd love to see in one of the alarm emails is a list of running processes and their cpu utilization(%) at the time of the alarm. Is this even possible?
