• Asp.net MVC database connection setting in Visual studio 2008

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

• SQlite/Firebird: Does any of them support multiple concurrent write access ?

  Question: I currently store ASP.net application data in XML files. Now the problem is I have asynchronous operations, which means I ran into the problem of simultanous write access on a XML file... Now, I'm considering moving to an embedded database to solve the issue. I'm currently considering SQlite and embeddable Firebird. I'm not sure however if SQlite or Firebird can handle multiple concurrent write access. And I certainly don't want the same problem again. Anybody knows ? SQlite certainly is better known, but which one is better - SQlite or Firebird ? I tend to say Firebird, but I don't really know. No MS-Access or MS-SQL-express recommodations please, I'm a sane person.

• Syncronizing indices of function pointer table to table contents

  In the embedded system I'm working on, we are using a table of function pointers to support proprietary Dynamic Libraries. We have a header file that uses named constants (#define) for the function pointer indices. These values are used in calculating the location in the table of the function's address. Example: *(export_table.c)* // Assume each function in the table has an associated declaration typedef void (*Function_Ptr)(void); Function_Ptr Export_Function_Table[] = { 0, Print, Read, Write, Process, }; Here is the header file: *export_table.h* #define ID_PRINT_FUNCTION 1 #define ID_READ_FUNCTION 2 #define ID_WRITE_FUNCTION 3 #define ID_PROCESS_FUNCTION 4 I'm looking for a scheme to define the named constants in terms of their location in the array so that when the order of the functions changes, the constants will also change. (Also, I would like the compiler or preprocessor to calculate the indices to avoid human mistakes like typeo's.)

• Can't select database table even though the code is right

  I am trying to display a list of my vbulliten threads on a non-vbulliten portion of my site. However I can't select the vbulliten database: <?php $host = "localhost"; $user = "my username"; $pass = "my password"; $dbname = "tableprefix_forum"; mysql_connect($host, $user, $pass) or die ("Could not connect to database server."); mysql_select_db($dbname) or die ("Could not select database."); ?> I am substituting some things here in this example but all my credentials are correct including my db server username, password and forum db name. So what is the problem? Is it due to some internal security feature in vbulliten, does this system not allow you to connect to it's db if the page trying to connect to it is a non-vbulliten page?

  Hi, I use LINQ to SQL to get data from a database and use a service contract to access it in Silverlight at the client side. I display the data in a DataGrid. Now how do I make sure that any changes in the datagrid is written back to the database? EDIT: This is the example code I implemented: http://www.silverlight.net/learn/tutorials/sqldatagrid-cs/ Here I wanted any change in the datagrid reflected back in the database. The SubmitChanges function works in the DataContext object which is: public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext But this is not exposed in the contract and so not visible in the client side code.

  Hi, We have a database which has location-based search using Google Maps API. However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time.   Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with VSTS 2008, and I am developing a simple web application using ASP.Net and Forms Authentication. When I am using the configuration tool/menu of VSTS of my ASP.Net project (I want to use this tool to manually add some Forms authentication users), I met with the following error (SqlException), Trying to attach file D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf to automatically named database failed. It may be caused by existing the same name database, or may be caused by specified file can not be opened or caused by the specified file exists in UNC share. In my computer, there is no aspnetdb.mdf under dir D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data, and I have used aspnet_regsql to generate database successfully before I run the configuration tool.   Hi, I'm developing an application on an embedded linux OS (uClinux) and I need to be able to lock the mutex more than once (by the same thread). I have a mutex and a mutexattr defined and initialized as follows: pthread_mutexattr_t waiting_barcode_mutexattr; pthread_mutex_t waiting_barcode_mutex; pthread_mutexattr_init(&waiting_barcode_mutexattr); pthread_mutexattr_settype(&waiting_barcode_mutexattr, PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE); pthread_mutex_init(&waiting_barcode_mutex, &waiting_barcode_mutexattr); But when I try to acquire the lock twice it blocks on the second lock: pthread_mutex_lock(&waiting_barcode_mutex); pthread_mutex_lock(&waiting_barcode_mutex); Am I initializing it wrong or is there a better way of accomplishing the same? • resource embedding in asp.net

  I have a project which needs to generate PDF documents. I am using iTextSharp. I have a pdf which needs to be read and then appended to. To read the pdf document, I'm using PdfReader(), which accepts many forms, but I can't figure out how to reference a pdf in my webapplication to PdfReader. My host does not allow Binary Serialization (apparently that's bad), so I don't think I can load from an embedded resource. I've tried just using PdfReader("report.pdf"), but it keeps throwing an exception telling me that the file isn't found. I've tried putting the file in the bin directory, root directory, in the same directory as the class, but this still doesn't work. It works if I use a fully qualified path to the pdf document, but I can't use that when I upload it to my hosting provider. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should do this? Thanks

I am more interested in embedding Lua, but other people have other embeddings they want to make. I am wondering how you ask for permission, and what they mean by the terms "minor features" and "consistent" and how will Apple interpret this section? It seems to have enough loopholes to drive a real firetruck through.

  I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido

• Android/ORMLite Insert Row with ID

  I'm currently using ORMLite to work with a SQLite database on Android. As part of this I am downloading a bunch of data from a backend server and I'd like to have this data added to the SQLite database in the exact same format it is on the backend server (ie the IDs are the same, etc). So, my question to you is if I populate my database entry object (we'll call it Equipment), including Equipment's generatedId/primary key field via setId(), and I then run a DAO.create() with that Equipment entry will that ID be saved correctly? I tried it this way and it seems to me that this was not the case. If that is the case I will try again and look for other problems, but with the first few passes over the code I was not able to find one. So essentially, if I call DAO.create() on a database object with an ID set will that ID be sent to the database and if it is not, how can I insert a row with a primary key value already filled out? Thanks!

  I have written an installer and uninstaller in NSIS which creates and drops an sql database, which is working fine. I have written some .bat and .sql files to create and drop the database and then just call these files from NSIS script. My problem is if I keep this database open in SQL Server Management Studio and run the uninstaller ideally it should give an error message that the database is opened. In my case it shows the success message of uninstaller but dosnt drop the database properly. How can I handle this error in NSIS?

The database-file (mdf) has a size of 630MB and the log-file has a size of 12GB. I ask me now, what the reason for this can be.   Assume I have a cooperative scheduler in an embedded environment. I have many processes running. I want to utilize the watchdog timer so that I can detect when a process has stopped behaving for any reason and reset the processor. In simpler applications with no RTOS I would always touch the watchdog from the main loop and this was always adequate. However, here, there are many processes that could potentially hang. What is a clean method to touch the watchdog timer periodically while ensuring that each process is in good health? I was thinking that I could provide a callback function to each process so that it could let another function, which oversees all, know it is still alive. The callback would pass a parameter which would be the tasks unique id so the overseer could determine who was calling back.

  I would like to perform updates to a MySQL database using two separate classes (that do different things) -- one doing so every 10 seconds, and the second every minute. I have a few gaps in my Java knowledge and I'm wondering what the best way to achieve it is. Importantly, if connectivity to the database is lost, I need reconnection attempts to occur indefinitely, and I'm guessing the use of Prepared Statements will make queries more efficient. Should the connection to the database be left open all the time or closed between the updates being run? Maybe I also need to think about clearing objects/resources out of memory if the class instances are going to be run indefinitely.

• Running sql scripts against an attached database?

  I've got an MDF attached to an instance of Sql Server 2008 Express, and I need to run some sql scripts against it to generate tables, indexes, etc. But I can't figure out how to get this to work. If I load the scripts in Visual Studio, it only allows me to connect to the server and run it against a database. I can't choose a different provider (Microsoft Sql Server Database File), so I can't select my MDF. This leaves me the only option of running the script as individual queries, but that won't work as it appears it doesn't support TSQL CREATE statements. How can I run my sql script against an attached database?

  What I'm planning to do is a) parse a file for some lines matching a regular expression b) store the match in some sort of database / file so I don't have to do the parsing again and again c) call another program passing the matches as arguments While I can imagine how to do a) and c), I'm a little bit unsure about b). The matches are of the form key:attribute1:attribute2:attribute3 where attribute 2 may be optional. I'm thinking of storing the results in a simple database but the problem is the database needs to available on a number of Unix platform for the program to work. Are there any (simple) databases which can be found on any Unix platforms? Or should I use some sort of index-sequential file?

  I have written a script to create an audit trails to my database in a second one db. So far I had no problems during tests on my dev machine from SQL Server Management Studio. Problems started to occurs when I first tried to test my triggers from my application by modyfing data in it. Using profiler I found out, that my audit trails db is not visible in sys.databases, so here lies the problem. The application using an Application Role, so as I found on MSDN, that's why I can't get access to other db on the server. I'm not a DBA. I have no experience with properly settings the security stuff, so please guide me, how can I set the setting for guest account (according to MSDN) to get access to this db? I need to have a record for this database in sys.databases and I need to be able to insert data in this database in all tables. No select, update or delete I need.

• Ruby On Rails - Collection Select - MYSQL Database - Problem Displaying ampersand ("&")

  I am having an annoying problem displaying the labels of a select box correctly where there is an ampersand contained within the label string. On a form being rendered with the form_for helper the collection_select reads data from a Mysql 5.075 database the text stored in the database is "Surabaya & Surrounding Areas" when rendered and displayed in firefox 3.6 or safari is is displaying as "Surabaya %amp; Surrounding Areas". The code used to render the select is as follows: <%= f.collection_select :parent_id, Destination.roots, :id, :name, {:include_blank => true} %> I have tried adding a h(:name) and also storing && in the database but it still will not display the ampersand correctly. Have searched on google for what I thought would be a simple solution but cant find anything that solves this. Using ROR 2.3.5/Ruby 1.8.7 If anyone has a solution it will be much appreciated. many thanks, David

• Copying just the data from one Database to another

  I'm not sure if this is the site for this question or not [if so put in the comment or vote to move it] How can I copy only the data from one database to another within the same server on SQL Server 2005? The two databases have the same schema but not the same data. I'm trying to get the data from one database to another. I am not able to restore from a snapshot [that screws over the security settings on the database]. I'm not able to use the import data wizard, because that is trying to copy over schema data as well.
