• Google Drive desktop client not updating existing files from other users

  I've looked around and there doesn't really seem to be any troubleshooting information for the Google Drive desktop client. It all assumes you are using Google Docs on the web. Anyway, my team is trying to use Google Drive like Dropbox, where multiple people are editing files shared amongst them through the desktop, such as images. Dropbox is really good at noticing when a checksum for a file is changed, and syncing it. Google Drive's desktop client seems not to do this at all. Google Drive desktop client seems to only sync newly created files and not giving any notification at all that there is a modified version, it will never sync it, even though going online and opening that file will show the modified version. Is there any way to fix this? and the answer has nothing to do with proxy or firewall configurations. Team is using computers running OSX and Windows.

• OS X server 10.6 - how to restore default groups?

  I've set up my OS X server as an open directory master first, then (experimenting), I've changed it to standalone server, then set it back as an open directory master again. Now, all the default groups I saw before are gone (Domain Administrators, Domain users etc). Do you know how to restore these groups? Note that the groups are gone only from the Workgroup Manager UI. They do seem to be still there otherwise. id -G gives the usual list of groups. If I create an account and makes its primary group 'staff', Workgroup Manager shows all the inherited groups properly (but not on the main list). If I create an account and associate it to a new group I just created, then the account has no inherited groups...

• Restart my graphics card without rebooting?

  Wondered if it is possible to use DevCon to restart a display device as a stop-gap solution to artifacts left over from a graphics card malfunction? In particular it leaves my cursor very un-user-friendly: I found out the hardware ID of my display adapter through device manager (below) [(windows key + pause break) - device manager - display adapters - right click your display adapter - properties - details - hardware ids.] I tried the commands (opened with admin privileges) devcon restart "PCI\VEN_1002" and devcon restart =display but it always come back with No devices restarted.. Is it even possible to restart the graphics card without a system reboot?

• Why does my Mac address reset after reconnecting?

  I have ubuntu 12. I'm changing my mac address with ifconfig wlan0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx which works. However when I restart my connection my computer resets my mac to my original mac address. I'm guessing that this happens because something calls... ifconfig wlan0 down ... do something before connecting ifconfig wlan0 up ... connect to designated access point I want my mac address to however be the same no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect, whether to another network or the same one. Also it would be nice to turn off the auto-connect feature for my network-manager with out having to edit each individual connection. Lastly I would like to know how to connect to a wifi network through the terminal and not via gui network manager ubuntu provides.

• SQL2005 reporting server: intense security activity

  On my reporting server the Security log shows large numbers of Logon/Logoff events, often 10 or more, when you run pretty much any report in the Report Manager. Is this normal or is it a classic sign of having the wrong setup? Some system details: Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, virtual server running under VMWare). SQL Server 2005 SP3 Standard Edition, running databases, Report Manager, and Ananlysis Services cubes. No other major services on the machine (i.e. it's not a domain controller, Exchange server or anything like that). Any ideas, please, guys?

• USB connection issue

  Currently Im facing an issue when Im trying to connect any usb flash drive to my pc. ok, below is what happens to me: 1) I can connect usb keyboard and mouse without any issue. 2) however when i connect usb flash drive, there are 2 situations that are occuring randomly a) there is no usb drive mount in my computer, when device manager is checked, it shows error code 10, but is shown in disk management. b) my computer will have usb drive mounted, but when I click on it, it is empty. on right click the properties, the disk space show 0. (there are files within the usb) what i have done is: 1) run CCleaner to repair the registry, restart and try, but still not working. 2) uninstall the drive in device manager, restart and try, but still not working. 3) tried the port that connects mouse and keyboard, but does not work. anyone who experienced these problems before please guide me. any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. • Linux - Block ssh users from accessing other machines on the network

  I have set up a virtual machine on my network for uni project development. I have 6 team members and I don't want them to SSH in and start sniffing my network traffic. I already have set the firewall on my W7 pcs to ignore any connection attempts from the Virtual Machine, but would like to go a step further and not allow any network access from the VM to other machines on my network. Team members will be access the VM by SSH. The only external port forwarded is to vm:22. The VM is running in VirtualBox on a bridged network connection. Running latest Debian. If someone could tell me how to do this I would be much obliged.

• How to bypass Forefront TMG for downloading from Adobe Cloud

  I hope that this question has not been asked as I've spent a couple of days googling around trying to find a solution. I have one computer that needs to download from Adobe Cloud to install applications like Photoshop etc... The issue I'm having is that Adobe uses a download manager program (AdobeApplicationManager.exe) that just keeps incrementing the time left on the download of any app like Photoshop. Is there a way to allow just the download manager from that one computer to bypass any filtering settings in Forefront TMG 2010? I have very little knowledge of servers / ISA servers / Forefront TMG and have been thrown into this position by luck I guess. Any help with this would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Ubuntu 11.04 hangs at "checking battery state" while booting

  When I try to boot Ubuntu 11.04, it just hangs when it gets to checking battery state. I know this issue is usually related to graphic drivers, but it worked like a charm for months now. Last time I was on Ubuntu I updated my system with the update manager, so maybe an update caused it. Anyway, I really need Ubuntu. I'm in the middle of work on a website and I have a deadline, so I need some help over here. Thanks. p.s. I tried reinstalling gnome-power-manager. Didn't work. And I'm not on a laptop.

• Intuitive view of what's using the hard drive so much on Windows 7?

  Sometimes my hard drive usage is near 100%, and I have no idea what is causing it. Are there any utilities that can help diagnose excessive hard drive usage and have as intuitive of an interface as Task Manager's Processes tab, which I can sort by CPU usage? I am aware of using procmon, of adding columns to Task Manager's Processes tab like I/O Read Bytes and I/O Write Bytes, and using Resource Monitor's Disk tab. Too often, these don't give me useful information or clearly identify a single process that is hogging the disk.

• How to show a warning message when entering a folder?

In my case would say that the folder could be deleted without previous warning to save some disk space. • Font display issue (Mac OS X)?

  I used a font manager on Mac OS X, for additional fonts in my graphic design projects without installing them to the fonts folder (I think that's how it works) - using Font Book and Font Explorer X Version 1.2.3 on OS X 10.6. Most fonts work fine, but Interstate has a problem: Interstate Regular is installed, but for some reason it's probably not seeing it; it's seeing all the Bold and Condensed versions fine. In the above image, it displays the second font as Interstate Regular, but it isn't that font... why? Also, how do I reset the system fonts folder back to the default-installed fonts (I think it's in the library folder) if worst comes to worst, and is using a font manager on Mac or Windows a good idea? I don't want to wreck my system, fairly new to using Mac, especially OS X, so any help would be gratefully accepted.

• Opening NBF backup file?

  I have a backup file from before i reinstalled windows but am unable to open it because the file is a NBF. It was created with Acer Backup Manager which is a proprietary version of NTI's backup software. is there any way to open this? I have tried using NTI Backup Now! 4.x but it says the file is invalid. Acer Backup Manager will only let me restore the ENTIRE image (not what I want), and many hours of googling have left me empty handed.

• Worker processes not starting in IIS 7.5. What should I check?

  I have a Windows 7 machine (Windows version 6.1.7601 SP1 Build 7601) with IIS installed. At some point the installation appears to have become 'corrupted' in some way, as any requests are now met with the message: Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. In IIS manager IIS is started and the app pool I am using reports itself as 'Started', yet there is no w3wp.exe process listed in the process list in task manager (I am a local admin and have clicked the 'Show processes from all users' button. I have enabled logging for the web site (at default location of %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles), but this folder is empty. I am assuming that this log output is written by w3wp.exe as it handles requests (no w3wp.exe, no log file?). Presumably there is another layer of request handling that is responsible for starting the worker processes, does thsi layer have log files I can check, and/or can I uninstall/re-install that layer?   I have a HP laptop. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate from home basic. Now I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 8 but when I do I get a message saying not enough system partition. So I opened the disk manager and increased the size of system reserved partition and it was of no use I still got the same error. Then I unfortunately deleted the 100MB system reserved partition by right clicking it and clicking format in the disk manager! Now I am not able to boot any CD's from the startup including OS and recovery CD. Whenever I press esc it always goes to the login screen and it doesn't say anything about the boot from CD option. Now I could not even use my recovery CD. I have 3 questions: Is it necesseary to create a system reserved partition if so how to create it? How to use my recovery cd How to install win 8

• refresh windows network performance counters in command line

  I am testing a USB device connected to a windows PC. When the device is connected then windows has another network interface going through the device. I need to get the bytes transffered for that specific interface, basically I need the data shown in the networking tab in the task manager for my interface adapter. I found this question which helped to get this info: ms windows network activity bytes send and receive in command line However I have a problem when I run multiple tests - each time I disconnect and connect the device there's another line for the interface, like below. • Why does my CPU Usage reach 100% too often?

  I'm using a dual-core processor and often see my CPU usage reaches 100%. I realize this may happen if I'm running too much applications, so when I know the computer starts to run slowly, I start to close my applications. I usually run 4-5 applications simultaneously. Usually those are: web browser (Google Chrome), Adobe Photoshop, Notepad++, XAMPP, and Windows Task Manager. Usually I close tabs in my Chrome first, because I often browse the net with about 20 tabs/4 windows open, so I presume that would take much memory (bad habit, I know). But even after closing Chrome's tabs or closing other applications, my CPU Usage often stays at high percentage - 72% at best, 100% at worst. I check the Processes tab on Windows Task Manager and usually found the System, System Idle Process, or services.exe taking the highest CPU process (could reach 60). Why is this happening? And is there any solution? EDIT I have T2250 @ 1,73 Ghz and 2.5 GB RAM

The little blurb in that announcement intrigued me so I went to the OpenSVC website and found this: OpenSVC is a 'service' manager, as in clustered service manager, designed for real-world heterogeneous datacenters and large-scale operations orchestrator (disaster recovery, for example). Services are collections of resources (virtual machine, ip, disk groups, filesystems, file synchronizations, and application launchers). Services can be started, stopped and queried for status, providing a consistent command set for wildly different service integration types. Service configurations, status and logs are pushed to a central database coupled to a web front-end (collector). Services can be administered using the stand-alone GPLv2 software stack deployed on the nodes (nodeware), or through the web-front end. Plus some UML-type graphics. Which is all neat, but I still don't understand: what does it do? Am I just being dense? What's the use case for this system?

• Wrong version of php used be IIS

  Long ago I installed php5.2 using a installer on IIS. Recently I installed PHP Manager and upgraded to php5.3 simly by unzipping the downloaded file and then used the "Register new php version" in PHP Manager. I did this for the global scope for all sites. This works OK. Once in a blue moon errors are written to the php5.2 errorlog even though that verion is not used anymore. The errors are typical 5.3 specfic functions that are not supported in 5.2. How can it be? Can I safely uninstall php5.2 using the uninstaller (i think it added some stuff to the env paths)?

• How do I add an Approver to SharePoint 2010?

  I am still new to SharePoint and am learning so much, but have came in to a few hic-ups and here is one. I want to add an approver to SharePoint 2010 who has FULL CONTROL. My manager requested that I find out where the approval request are going and redirect them to him. (I have no idea where or how to find this out). Is this possible to do on the Central Administration or must I go into each site/subsite and set him to be the approver this way? Googled and the site was showing me how to approve workflows or how to create approvals, my other resources didn't give much help either. So far I had gone into a few individual sites and set my manager and I up as approvers with full control, but am uncertain if this is the correct procedure or if there is a better way to do this. For example, have the lower levels inherit from the higher level - set security at the highest level and cascade to the child levels. Thank You.

• Installing ethernet controller driver after clean windows XP install

  I've been having trouble getting internet access through an ethernet connection since doing a fresh install of windows XP. It appears that I'm missing the driver for the ethernet controller. Looking in 'device manager' under the network adapters section there's an apparently working '1394 Net Adaptor' but under unknown devices there's the question-marked ethernet controller, which I believe is what I want the driver for. I found an old cd that contains the driver for it (Realtek 8139 or some 81xx). There's no setup tool, but only 3 files (a .cat file, .inf file and .sys file). I've tried right-clicking on the .inf file and using 'install' and also tried just copying the .sys file into the system32/drivers folder but neither have got me anywhere after restarting. The ethernet controller is still listed in 'unknown devices'. EDIT: I've also tried updating the driver in the device manager, pointing it at the folder containing the driver, but this hasn't worked either. Any ideas? Thanks

The reporting instance on the server gives error code 404. What works now Basic source code control. We're able to check in and out source code. What doesn't work : Everything else, including : Opening and creating new team projects. Build automation. Internal bug tracking. Goal setup Having a fully working TFS install, and keeping the history. 1) A full install of TFS 2005 on the same server, but within its own database and reporting instance. 2) Using another server might be an option, but it's really not prefered Downtime should be minimum, my colleagues needs to be able to work on the source Readings I've read the MSDN page about moving/restoring TFS 2005, but I'm still unsure about what to do. • Can't connect to IIS7 on one of my machines

  I have 2 computers, both running Win7 Professional x64. Computer "A" (192.168.0.10) is my work machine, it contains my tools etc. Computer "B" (192.168.0.15) is supposed to be my build server / web server for my projects I've installed IIS on "B", and installed IIS7 remote manager on "A". I'm trying to connect from A's IIS7 Manager to B's IIS but I fail. I have little knowledge of IIS, and I feel that's the main reason. I can ping B from A and get positive results so the machines do see each other. A and B are in the same workgroup but not in a domain (if that matters) - they're in my home network. What do I need to do to "see" B's IIS?

• meeting availability using iPhone/iOS calendars

  Our management team all use iPhones with the built-in iOS calendar app. We're looking into getting Microsoft Exchange for everyone here, but that'll take us some weeks to plan and roll-out across the enterprise. In the meantime, I need to provide something so group meeting availability can be determined from those calendars. Google Calendar would be ideal ("find a time") if I could find a way to link to/export the iCloud calendars, but Apple don't seem to want to do that. I could ask the management team to recreate their events for the next few weeks in individual Google Calendars, but they won't want to do that and it's wasteful rekeying of data. Any suggestions you can provide will be gratefully received.

• Monitoring the wall time of a process on windows?

  Windows Task Manager has the ability to show the current CPU time of any given running process on windows, is there any way (not necessarily through Task Manager) to get the current wall time of a process? An example, let's say I have a script that reliably runs for about 45 minutes. Without adding a progress bar to the script, is there any way to figure out for how long it has been running? The math behind this seems pretty straight forward; WallTime = CurrentWallTime - WallTimeProcessStarted. Likewise, since the math is so simple, is there anyway to get the time that a process was started at?
