  • Can I select which folders the Photos live tile chooses from?

    The built-in Photos app in Windows 8 has a live tile on the start screen that shows photos from your pictures library. It's a cool little visual, even if it's not particularly useful. The problem is that a lot of image files on my computer are not really photos per se -- I have a lot of screenshots, PNGs of technical drawings, graph images, etc. Those all look pretty awkward on the start screen. I look pretty awkward on the start screen too... sometimes photos like resume profile shots show up that I don't want to delete, but they're not really what I want to be staring at when I start my computer up. I'm looking for some way to configure which folders the Photos app should look in for images to display on the live tile. That way, I could point it to some directories of pretty scenic pictures I've taken, and not have to see graphs and my own mug. For the time being, I've just disabled the live tile (right click - disable live tile), but I would ultimately like to have this functionality, just with more control over it.

  • How to change font size on display

    My laptop is Lenovo T400, whose screen size is 14.1 inches and default resolution is 1440 x 900. My main OS is Ubuntu 10.10. The default font size on the display is somehow small, which might contribute to the fatigue of my eyes. My previous laptop is Acer 5000, whose screen size is 15.4 inches and the default resolution is 1024 x 768. I like reading on my old laptop better than on my new one. Is it possible to change the setting of my new one to look like reading my old one? What are the parameters that control the font size? Are screen size, resolution part of them? In Windows, there are choices for font size, while in Ubuntu I haven't find out where I can change the setting and would like know if someone here knows about it. I also wonder if I can use a separate bigger display (perhaps just like a desktop display) as the display of my laptop, in case I don't want to enlarge font size at the cost of sacrificing the amount of the content to display, and how I shall do it?   • Some Portions of Computer Running Slow (Specifically Graphics)

    I noticed that a few things are running slow today on my Windows 7 laptop. Specifically, they are: Opening and closing windows takes several seconds for the animation to complete. Windows media player opens fine, but the movies are very laggy MMORPG's, such as RuneScape, are extremely laggy When waking my computer from sleep mode, after entering my password, my desktop takes about 3 seconds to fade in Other than those, everything runs at a normal speed. Things I've done that maybe contributed to this problem: Changed the graphics processor (by plugging in/unplugging the charger) [however, no matter how I change the graphics, I'm still getting this lagginess] Installed AdBlock, a Firefox addon [I recently removed it, and I'm still experiencing this problem] Went into Advanced System Settings, Clicked Settings, and unchecked a few visual things (such as the animation for opening and closing windows) [sure, this got rid of the opening/closing windows lag, but I like that little animation - plus that leaves all the other lag problems I'm experiencing] So, does anyone have any ideas/fixes? If so, please respond. Thank you. Some Other Information: I'm on a HP Pavillion dv7 laptop, 4285 Entertainment PC, with: intel CORE i5 inside, ATI Mobility Radeon Premium Graphics, Microsoft DirectX11 Opening and closing of windows: Defined as opening a program (i.e. Firefox) or closing it by hitting the X in the upper-right hand corner. Lately, the animation for opening and closing windows (which is simply either growing from the icon from the taskbar to fill the screen, or shrinking from the screen down towards the icon on the toolbar.) This problem also occurs for minimizing/maximizing windows. Very laggy movies: defined as .avi movie files saved to My Documents which skips several frames per second and seemingly slows down the movie as a whole Extremely laggy games: I tried RuneScape today, and movement in the game was at least 10x slower than it ever has been, even when playing on the lowest detail/graphics Desktop taking 3 seconds to fade in after sleep: in this scenario, I had no other programs running visibly. The computer generally fades to black from the password screen to the desktop in about 1 second, normally. However, it is now taking 3 or more seconds.

  • Website with login: everything works. Website without login: menu items don't redirect to content

    I wanted to put the website online. I saw it still had a login screen. It needs to be accesible for everyone. unpublishing the module did not work. I checked the user access view and took the login url out of the template manager. After this the login screen was gone at the page. But when I click on any of the website menu items, it doesn't redirect to the content. When I do have the login screen and put in the username and password all the menu's work just fine. I checked the url it is the same with or without login. How is this possible? I have been asking a lot of people, but no ones seems to be able to give me a hint. I have been searching for the solution myself for more than a week, I just don't know anymore. My guess is that there must be a conflict in the redirection, but I am not skilled enough to recognize it I am affraid. Any tips would be more than welcome. Thank you

    Hi, I developed an application which consists of UIPickerView....It displays as default size in height of the UIPickerView.I want to display the UIPickerView as 320x480 size(iphone simulator size)..so the whole screen has the picker view without using transorm property,because it will stretched the whole view....its not looking good...even with selection indicator also stretched...I need not stretchable picker view..but need to show the picker view with the whole screen..We can control the width of the UIPickerView..But how can we control the height of the UIPickerView..... I am trying to make it so that when i click the video it goes to full screen covering everything and if i click again it goes back to the smaller size with other buttons on the screen.     I have a UIModalPresentationFormSheet which has a movie player inside of it. When the user hits the button to play it in full screen, my UIModalPresentationFormSheet is still there ontop of the video while it's playing in full screen, behind the window and behind the shadow. What do I need to do to get rid of the dim so the video is playing in fullscreen with being able to select buttons and not having an annoying dim ontop of it?

    I am designing website for mobile access and I want to set page width, height and button sizes, so they display filling up the screen. For example if user is using HTC HD , the whole screen would be 480x800 with button sized 240x200. However IE mobile as well as Opera load the page with some zoom level, so the buttons display either too large or too small. How can I either read current zoom level in javascript or set it from javascript?

  • Why is there a black bar on top of my iPhone/iPad app when I run it on the iPhone simulator?

    Whenever I run my iPhone / iPad app in the iPhone simulator, a black bar appears along the top of the screen which I can't seem to get rid of. On the iPad simulator, however, it looks fine and works great. Also tapping one of the buttons seems to cause a white screen to appear instead of the view on the iPhone, while on the iPad it doesn't seem to be troublesome. Thanks, Anthony Glyadchenko

  • XCode Build and Run

    I recently reinstalled OSX, and am having a slight annoyance with XCode. Before I reinstalled, I could just hit CMD + Enter, and it would build, then flip the main editor screen to the debugger, where it would show NSLogs, crashes, etc. Now, when I hit CMD + Enter, it just runs the app and stays in the code editor screen. Is there an option I'm missing? I've scoured the preferences, and can't seem to find anything.

  • iPad: Tables in Popover Views do not Scroll to Show Selected Row

    I am having two problems with viewcontrollerss in landscape orientation on the iPad. (1) I have two popups which hold tables. The tables should scroll to a specific row to reflect a selection in the main view. Instead, the tables do scroll down some but the actual selected row remains off screen. (2) All my action sheets come up with a width of 320. In Interface Builder, all my views are created in landscape orientation. Only the main Window is not, but I don't see a way to change that. My Configuration: Upon launch, I get the following coordinates for my main window and the main viewcontroller view: Window frame {{0, 0}, {768, 1024}} mainView frame {{0, 0}, {748, 1024}} All other views after that show these coordinates when summoned (when loaded but before being presented): frame of keysig {{0, 0}, {1024, 768}} frame of instrumentSelect {{20, 0}, {1024, 768}} frame of settings {{0, 0}, {467, 300}} In all my viewControllers, i respond to shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation with: return ((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)); Everything (almost) functions as expected. The app launches into one of the two landscape modes. The views (and viewcontrollers) display everything where it belongs and taps work all across the screen as expected. However, I still have the two problems. Problem 1: I have two popups containing tables long enough to run off screen. The tables should scroll to a selected row. They do scroll i.e. they don't start visually at row 1 but they don't scroll enough to actually show the selected row. It almost seems like a UITable internal rect gets created with the wrong number and stays that way but I've checked both of the UITableView's scrollView content coordinates and they seemed reasonable. Problem 2: I think this is related to problem 1 because my actionsheets come up with a width of 320. I can only assume that the iPad allows actionSheets in only 320 or 480 widths and since it somehow thinks that the screen is oriented in portrait mode, it uses the narrower width. There you have it. I can't believe I am still getting hung up on orientation issues. I swear Apple doesn't make it easy to have a landscape app. Any ideas?

  • iPhone MailComposer class UIViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated issues

    I created a class to launch the MailComposer so that my iPhone app would only have one place to go when generating various kinds of e-mail: some with attachments, some not. Some with pre-filled addresses, some not. I didn't want my class implement UIViewController, but it has to so it can be the delegate for the MailComposer. Otherwise, the view controllers that call my class would themselves have to be delegates for the MailComposer, which defeats the purpose. The downside of having my class be a view controller is that it has to load to the screen before it can modally bring up the MailComposer. Unfortunately, view controllers can't be transparent. The effect is, whatever is on screen gets covered by a solid white view controller for a moment before the MailComposer appears. I could maybe live with that, but not this: after the MailComposer goes away, I'm left with my blank view controller occupying the screen. I ought to be able to get rid of it from within itself by calling this: [self.parentViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:NO]; But that dies a horrible death: "Loading 43365 stack frames..." Has my class -- a UIViewController that pre-fills and then launches a MailComposer -- lost track of its parentViewController? It isn't nil, because I've tested for that. As launched from within the current view controller... // My class is called Email. Email *oEmail = [[[Email alloc] init] retain]; // Red, to remind myself that I'd like to someday learn to make it transparent. oEmail.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; // Pre-fill whatever fields you want, and specify attachments. oEmail.EmailSubject = @"I am truly stumped"; // This has to go on screen first. [self presentModalViewController:oEmail animated:NO]; // Then this can happen, which brings up the MailComposer. [oEmail f_SendEmail]; // Commenting out the next line didn't help, so I turned it back on. [oEmail release]; Inside the class, you need the mailComposeController:didFinishWithResult:error: method to make the MailComposer go away, and for that to happen, the class has to be the MFMailComposeViewControllerDelegate. Here's what happens in there: // This gets rid of the mail composer. [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; // This never fails to get rid of other modal view controllers when called // from within those controllers, but boy does it not work here.   • Problem with Keyboard hook proc

    The background: My form has a TWebBrowser. I want to close the form with ESC but the TWebBrowser eats the keystrokes - so I decided to go with a keyboard hook. The problem is that the Form can be open in multiple instances at the same time. No matter what I do, in some situations, if there are two instances open of my form, closing one of them closes the other as well. I've attached some sample code.   • Adb shell commands to change settings or perform tasks on a phone

    How do I use adb to perform some automated tasks on my android phone? I need to find commands that I can issue from the command line (ideally, using a .bat file) that will be capable of more than simply opening an application or sending an input keyevent (button press). For instance, I want to toggle Airplane Mode on or off from the command line. Currently, the best I can do is launch the Wireless & network settings menu and then use input keyevents to click Airplane mode: adb shell am start -a android.settings.AIRPLANE_MODE_SETTINGS adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 23 There are quite a few drawbacks to this method, primarily that the screen has to be on and unlocked. Also, the tasks I want to do are much broader than this simple example. Other things I'd like to do if possible: 1.Play an mp3 and set it on repeat. Current solution: adb shell am start -n com.android.music/.MusicBrowserActivity adb shell input keyevent 84 adb shell input keyevent 56 & adb shell input keyevent 66 & adb shell input keyevent 67 & adb shell input keyevent 19 adb shell input keyevent 23 & adb shell input keyevent 21 adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 22 & adb shell input keyevent 22 & adb shell input keyevent 23 & adb shell input keyevent 23 2.Play a video. (current solution: open MediaGallery, send keyevents, similar to above) 3.Change the volume (current solution: send volume-up button keyevents) 4.Change the display timeout (current solution: open sound & display settings, send keyevents) As before, these all require the screen to be on and unlocked. The other major drawback to using keyevents is if the UI of the application is changed, the keyevents will no longer perform the correct function. If there is no easier way to do these sort of things, is there at least a way to turn the screen on (using adb) when it is off? Or to have keyevents still work when the screen is off? I'm not very familiar with java. That said, I've seen code like the following (source: http://yenliangl.blogspot.com/2009/12/toggle-airplane-mode.html) to change a setting on the phone: Settings.System.putInt(Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, 1 /* 1 or 0 */); How do I translate something like the above into an adb shell command?   • Orientation change event in Browser on Palm webOS

    I'm working on a web application where I'm trying to capture when the user rotates the screen. Fundamentally, I want to know if the user is browsing in portrait mode or landscape mode. The iPhone/iPad and Android browsers send a resize event when the screen orientation changes. Unfortunately, the browser in webOS doesn't seem to send that notification. Any advice on how to detect in the browser any changes in orientation on Palm webOS? Thanks.

It was a button or something similar that sat in its place near the top of the screen, then when you scroll down it stays on screen. Now that I think about it, it must have been javascript-powered, but it looked really natural. Does anyone know of a site with this functionality or information on how to do it?
