  • Can SBS2003 Monitoring and Reporting service work without Exchange?

    Hi, we have an SBS2003 server. Recently I decided to switch to hmailserver as i feel it's better than exchange 2003, so i disabled it. Of course i don't receive the Monitoring and Reporting emails from my server anymore, there is a way to change the setting? I think it directly interacts with Exchange, but maybe there is an smtp option out there Otherwise there is an alternative? I tried the paessler monitor on a vm, but i feel it's too much for my use: i just need to get a daily report of the security violations in the event log and something else

    Hi, I am using the Silvelight Business Application template. I wrote a function which uses Membership.getUserList function to return the user list. I tried exposing it as Service using WCF. But when I try to compile the client side code it throws a warning saying "Client Proxy Generation for user_authentication.Web.Service1 failed'. Why does it happen?   • Service or software to auto-sync one server to another so they are identical?

    We have a main node in a DC data center and want to setup a back-up node in Seattle. The back-up node will only be used if the DC node goes down and we switch it over while DC node is repaired. The question is, what kind of services out there allow me to sync the data, I suppose we want to do it fairly frequently so if something goes down there isn't much loss in data between the time of failure and the last back-up/sync. Is there any common solution for this? It's Windows Server 2003 running Parallels Virtuozzo.

  • How to access a web service behind a NAT?

    We have a product we are deploying to some small businesses. It is basically a RESTful API over SSL using Tomcat. This is installed on the server in the small business and is accessed via an iPhone or other device portable device. So, the devices connecting to the server could come from any number of IP addresses. The problem comes with the installation. When we install this service, it seems to always become a problem when doing port forwarding so the outside world can gain access to tomcat. It seems most time the owner doesn't know router password, etc, etc. I am trying to research other ways we can accomplish this. I've come up with the following and would like to hear other thoughts on the topic. Setup a SSH tunnel from each client office to a central server. Basically the remote devices would connect to that central server on a port and that traffic would be tunneled back to Tomcat in the office. Seems kind of redundant to have SSH and then SSL, but really no other way to accomplish it since end-to-end I need SSL (from device to office). Not sure of performance implications here, but I know it would work. Would need to monitor the tunnel and bring it back up if it goes done, would need to handle SSH key exchanges, etc. Setup uPNP to try and configure the hole for me. Would likely work most of the time, but uPNP isn't guaranteed to be turned on. May be a good next step. Come up with some type of NAT transversal scheme. I'm just not familiar with these and uncertain of how they exactly work. We have access to a centralized server which is required for the authentication if that makes it any easier. What else should I be looking at to get this accomplished?

    I'm trying to offer services over the MobiTex network (also see wiki) and want to reduce double-work. I'm trying to understand if it is a good idea to WAP enable my website. Given that WAP usage is increasing (since MMS is a hybrid of SMS + WAP), and the FCC has required every operator in the 700Mhz range to implement it I'd like to fully understand if there are benefits to the technology for certain critical applications. For example, if GPRS allows SMS traffic, voice, and Data, presumably they are handled by different Gateways. If there is another gateway for WAP traffic I would think that it would act as a backup if the data gateway was overloaded. Are there resiliency benefits to using WAP on a critical website? i.e. Content delivery (push or pull)

  • Establish connection with an IP camera behind a modem-router assigned with a private IP by Internet Service Provider?

    Most solutions out there require the modem-router to have been assigned a public IP by the ISP. After which, one can access the IP camera via a portforward setting on the router. However, my ISP only provides private IPs internal to their system (they probably have a limited pool of public IPs). So I am unable to view my IP cameras in the way described. I'm wondering if there's a way to work around this problem without having to need a public IP. Since, after all, two users on Yahoo Messenger or Facebook Chat are able to find one another and exchange data despite both sides being within the internal networks of their respective ISPs. Given that I only plan to view my IP cameras via iOS or Android running on a smartphone or tablet, any ready-to-use solutions out there?

    we have implemented the code for installing the messenger theme pack using the client side scripting in a web page. We are creating an object of the messenger using the classid .Using this object we call the installcontent() method and try to install the messenger theme pack hosted at following path: http://www.messengerexpressions.com/assets/worldCup/cabs/en-gb.cab Our code initially checks whether the messenger is installed on the user machine or not. Then it checks for the user login ,once the messenger is installed on the machine. And if the user is signed-in , the messenger theme pack is installed. The code currently when hosted on IIS checks the “Sign-In of the user” but when it tries to install the theme pack an error is thrown “An ActiveX control on this page is unsafe.Your current security settings prohibit running unsafe control on this page.As a result,this page may not be display as intended.” Please let us know if any setting is required on IIS for running this piece of codeor anything that we are missing out.

  • Server 2008 R2 boot is at 2 hours and counting. What now?

    This morning, we rebooted our Server 2008 R2 box. No problem, came right back up. Then we shut it down and let it install windows updates. While it was off, we added some RAM. Then we turned it back on. The system came right back up to the "press ctrl-alt-delete" screen, so far, so good. I logged in. The system got as far as "Applying Group Policy" -- then spent almost an hour applying drive mappings. Finally finished that, and has now spent 30 minutes on waiting for the Event Notification Service. I still haven't been able to log in. Remote desktop service doesn't appear to be running yet. I tried viewing the event log from another machine. I see that the box is writing to the Security log, but there are no events in System or Application in the last 45 minutes. Digging through the System log of events from 45 minutes ago, I see a bunch of timeouts: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the ShellHWDetection service. [lots of these] A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the wuauserv service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SessionEnv service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Schedule service. A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the CertPropSvc service. What can I do? Should I try shutting it down remotely, or will that do more damage?

That method mainly just returns the results of a criteria query for which I want to test if it returns the one result or not (depending on what is queried for). The problem is, that I am unaware of how to right the corresponding test correctly. I am trying to accomplish it via spock, but doing the same with any other way of testing also fails.     I'm using the UpdateListItems method of the Lists web service, and I can update an item in just about any kind of list, and folders in non-document library lists, but I can't seem to update the name of a folder in a document library. I must use the web services API, as sharepoint is not local.   • SpringMvc java.lang.NullPointerException When Posting Form To Server

    I have a form with a user name field on it when i tab out of the field i use a RESTFUL Web Service that makes a call to a handler method in the controller. The method makes a call to a DAO class that checks the database if the user name exists. This works fine, however when the form is posted to the server i call the same exact function i would call in the handler method however i get a java.lang.NullPointerException when it accesses the class that makes a call to the DAO object. So it does not even access the DAO object the second time. I have exception handlers around the calls in all my classes that makes calls. Any ideas as to whats happening here why i would get the java.lang.NullPointerException the second time the function is called.Does this have anything to do with Spring instantiating DAO classes using a Singleton method or something to that effect? What can be done to resolve this?     I did a ton of changes to our code and before I commit, I would like a friend to review. Is there a way with SVN to take a copy of my working copy (to bundle everything in a package) and apply the changes I have made so far to another machines without having to commit? In the past, with another source control system, I was able to do the following to "pack" and "unpack" my changes.   • WCF hosting: Can access svc file but cannot go to wsdl link

    Hello, I have a WCF service that is hosted in IIS 7.5. I have two servers, one for test and one for production. The service works fine on test server, but on the production server I have the following error. When I access the address http//..../service.svc I can see the default page that says: You have created a service. To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax: svcutil.exe http://..../service.svc?wsdl This will generate a configuration file and a code file that contains the client class. Add the two files to your client application and use the generated client class to call the Service. But when I click the wsdl link, I cannot go to the wsdl page. It returns me to this default web page without any errors. I am suspecting a network/firewall authorization error but does anybody have an experience like this one? All IIS settings are the same for test and production servers. Thank you, Best Regards.
