• How do I include 3rd party libraries in my code...

  I understand the process of using a 3rd party library to access functions outside of my code base, but how do i actually set up Visual Studio 2005 to include them in the project. I have a 3rd party library with some headers, some cpp's, and some .lib files. In the projects properties I add the top level external library directory as an include directory, I add the additional library directory at the same level put this is project properties too. In the .cpp file where I use the functions, do I put the #include in its header file? In the top level projects header file? in the cpp? I've tried all that, but I get "unresolved external symbol"... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

• Anchors within the document and their position.

  On the following website, www.josecvega.com, I have a navigation bar with years that link to sections on that same page. Unfortunately it is not working they way I hoped, when the user selects a year it moves to the section of the page, but puts that section on the top of the page. I have a fixed div on the top of the page that covers the sections and prevents it from properly displaying. What can I do for this to work? It hard to explain my situation, but it can be seen by going to www.josecvega.com and clicking one of the years.

• How do I make an About window the front-most window in a Cocoa application with no UI?

  I'm building a Cocoa application that runs as an item in the status bar. This application has an About window and an item to activate that about window, using the standard Cocoa mechanism for doing so (-[NSApplication orderFrontStandardAboutPanel:]). Naturally this is all hooked up automagically. It works great except for one thing: unlike most About windows, it shows up underneath all other windows, rather than on top. I believe this is because the application does not have a UI, so all its windows are automatically beneath other windows. Is there a way I can hook into the NSApplication mechanism for displaying the About window so I can send it to the front? I've poked around in the docs for NSApplication, but there's no way to get a reference to the About window that I can see so that I can make it appear on top.

• Context menu for loaded SWF

  I have a Flex app with a viewport that loads a series of other swfs. I would like to place a context menu over top of the SWFs when the user right-clicks. To that end, I have set up a fairly standard context menu where each item has a ContextMenuEvent.MENU_ITEM_SELECT event handler. One problem: The eventHandler never gets called. If I place the context-menu code anywhere else in the app, i.e. not on top of a loaded SWF, everything works fine. However, when I place the exact same code on the SWF viewport, the context menu items appear, but the eventHandlers are never called. Any ideas?

  I have an edit view in my app which is a instance of UITableViewController and contains one cell with a textfield in a grouped table. At the moment this cell is at the top of the screen and is firstResponder so they keyboard is visible as well. But in all the Apples apps like the Contacts App when you edit a piece of information like an Email it buts both of its rows in the middle between the Nav Bar and the Keyboard not at the top of the screen. • opening iWorks documents in iPad UIWebView

  Hello, I'm writing an iPad application that has a UIWebView which I open word and excel documents in, but I want the user to be able to import those documents into the iWorks applications, Pages and Numbers, just like how you can do it in Safari if you open a document. If you open a document in Safari on the iPad, there'll be a button on the top bar that says "Open in..." and you can choose applications to open in. You get the top bar to appear by tapping on middle of the page. So is there an option you can set to allow UIWebView to show up the bar and automatically detect the content type and populate the list with applications you can import in? Or do I have to build this myself? And if I have to build my own, how do I open URLs to import documents into Pages and Numbers etc? Thanks, -David

• Google maps z-index problem in IE

  I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div? • Generating a beveled edge for a 2D polygon

  I'm trying to programmatically generate beveled edges for geometric polygons. For example, given an array of 4 vertices defining a square, I want to generate something like this. But computing the vertices of the inner shape is baffling me. Simply creating a copy of the original shape and then scaling it down will not produce the desired result most of the time. My algorithm so far involves analyzing adjacent edges (triples of vertices; e.g., the bottom-left, top-left, and top-right vertices of a square). From there, I need to find the angle between them, and then create a vertex somewhere along that angle, depending on how deep I want the bevel to be. And because I don't have much of a math background, that's where I'm stuck. How do I find that center angle? Or is there a much simpler way of attacking this problem?

  in my forum i have threads and replies. one thread has multiple replies. but then, a reply can be a reply of an reply (like google wave). because of that a reply has to have a column "reply_id" so it can point to the parent reply. but then, the "top-level" replies (the replies directly under the thread) will have no parent reply. so how can i fix this? how should the columns be in the reply table (and thread table). at the moment it looks like this: threads: id title body replies: id thread_id (all replies will belong to a thread) reply_id (here lies the problem. the top-level replies wont have a parent reply) body what could a smart design look like to enable reply a reply?

Is there anyone who could suggest me how to integrate the YUI 3 accordion - Do I have to write a helper for this or simply after copying the YUI 3 library I could code this in the default.ctp file. Is it possible using the Windows API, to create a textfield that lets me offset characters by exact pixels? if so - how? for example, I would like to place two O letters on top of each other, such that they form something like an 8 ? context is an application for a language where most of the glyphs are written left to right, but sometimes some of the glyphs are stacket on top of each other. I'm at a loss to figure out what's going on. How can I find out what's causing this? Update: The system is a fully 64-bit system, so there should be no question of memory limitations due to 32-bit issues. Update2: As I mentioned in the original question, I've already tried tuning swappiness to all sorts of values, including 0. The result is always the same, with approximately 1.6 GB of memory remaining unused. Update3: Added top output to the above info.

  How guys. I'm not top dev in java, but what I`m really not is cocoa top dev :P I would like to have your assistance to produce a layout with cocoa and IB to work just like the CardLayout in Java. Do you have some idea of how to do it? Thanks for the attention! EDIT: CardLayout: A set of panels ("cards") are designed to compose a "deck of cards".It works like a queue of panels, in which only the first "card" is shown on the interface.I can easily interchange between cards if I want so to modify the interface to the user. • How can I set the Rails environment for my somewhat stand alone Ruby script?

  I have a Ruby script in my Rails app that I use to load some data from Twitter. In the future I will make it an automatic background process, but for now I run it manually like: ruby /lib/twitter/twitterLoad.rb In order to use the Rails model classes and such, I have the following as the top line of the script: require "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/../../config/environment.rb" By default, the development environment is used. But, I'd like to be able to choose the production environment at some point. Update #1: The RAILS_ENV constant is getting set in the environment.rb file. So, I was able to put ENV['RAILS_ENV'] = 'production' at the very top (before the environment.rb) line and solve my problem somewhat. So, my new question is, can do pass in env vars through the command line?
