• Adobe Flash not working anymore with Browsers

  Hi guys, I have a really annoying problem: essentially, Adobe Flash is not working anymore. For instance, I cant watch any clip on youtube and I always get a black screen saying: Movie not loaded ... I have the newest Flash version (10.0.45.2), and the problem is the same with IE, Firefox or Chrome. I am using WIN XP and I turned of Antivirus software as well as Firewall, still I cant watch any flash stuff. Anyone an idea what could have happened in the last week? Never had a problem before that! Thanks!

• SBS 2003 no network connection and acting strangely a bunch of Event ID 13568

  I've got an SBS 2003 Standard server and it was running fine until earlier today when it was rebooted, after the reboot it has no network connection, I can't seem to right click on a lot of stuff and get dialog boxes, I can't launch IE, it's acting extremely strange. We are dead in the water at this point. I checked the event logs and noticed we're getting a ton of Event ID's 13568. I thought it was a Journal Wrap error, and while I was going to try to fix it using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762 I can't even do that because after I set the D4 value, then went to restart NTFRS from command prompt and I got the following: System Error 1059 has occurred. Circular service dependency was specified. That is where I'm at and haven't been able to figure anything else out. • Extension icons in Chrome for Mac have disappeared

  On my new MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Google Chrome for Mac, 5.0.307.11 beta, some (but not all) of the icons for extensions have disappeared. I can tell SOMETHING is still there, because the space is occupied and you can see it indent as you mouse over it. You can also see the name of the extension pop up in a balloon below. But the extension icon is invisible and the extension itself doesn't work. Right now it's happened with Google Translate, the show-in-IE extension, Wikipedia Chromium, Send with GMail and Clip to Evernote. The LastPass and Feedly extension icons are still visible. Any ideas on how to get them back and stop this from happening again? Seth Williamson

• Schedule Task run Without Being Logged in

  I have seen similar threads here and on the net, but I think my question is slightly different than what I can find... I have a script that runs perfectly when logged in with a service account I created specifically to run this script. But when I schedule it to run it hangs when trying to launch IE (the first part of my script). Without being logged in with that account I can watch the processes with task manager and see the processes running, but the script never finishes. I want to be able to run this script without needing to be logged in at all or even have the account be locked all the times. Is this possible? Or do I have to have the user account logged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Embedded video is not shown in internet explorer 9 RC or Beta

  In IE 9 RC or in beta, the embedded video is not shown in the web page. I verified the security settings in "internet options". Did not find any issue. Please find the screen shot below. I am able to view the flash videos in Youtube. But, for some reason, in some sites the embedded video is not shown. I don't have this issue with firefox. UPDATE: I am able to see view the embedded video in Admin account. But not able to view it in Standard account.

• What causes random clicking/navigation sound while PC is idle?

  On my Dell D630 laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3, I randomly hear the "Windows Navigation Start.wav" played. This happens even if the only application active on the PC at the time is Microsoft Outlook and no one is touching the keyboard or touchpad. The start navigation sound IS enabled for Internet Explorer (I have IE 7 installed), but it is not running (no window open, anyway). The clicks are rapid, as if being executed automatically by a script or process, and they always come in threes: "click-click, click". I don't see any changes on the display and I don't know how to figure out what's running that could cause this. I have tried to leave Windows Task Manager open in the hope that I'll see a process name jump to the top of the list briefly, but it doesn't happen that often and I guess I'm not quick enough. The PC is slower than I think it should be, but System Idle Process is at 96 - 99 during the event, and for most of the time when I'm not actually using the machine. Any ideas?

• OSX: Selecting default application for all unknown and different file types (extensions)

  I work in cluster computing and am using Mac OS X 10.6. I send off hundreds of computing jobs a day, and each one comes back with with a different extension. For example, svmGeneSelect.o12345 which is the std output of my svmGeneSelect job which is job number 12345. I don't control the extensions. All files are plain text. I want OSX to open any file extension that it hasn't seen before with my favorite text editor when I click on it. Or even better set up file association defaults for extension patterns ie textEdit for extensions matching *.o*. I do NOT want to create file associations for individual files since this extension will only ever exist once, and I do not want to go through the process of selecting the application to use for each file. I run diagnoze of ie and get: windows could not detect any wired or wireless network cards installed on your machine In Device Manager i have only 1394 Adapter I dont see any internet adapters.   Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

• IIS is overriding my response content, if i manually set the Response.StatusCode

  Hi Folks, Problem when i manually set the HTTP Status of my Response stream to .. say 404 or 503, IIS renders up the stock IIS content/view, instead of my custom view. When I do this with the Web Development Server (aka. Casinni), it works correctly (ie. my content is displayed and the response.statuscode == my entered data. Is there anyway I can override this behaviour? • Intermittent freeze of Windows 7 x64 on laptop

  I have Lenovo W500, 8GB RAM, 250GB Crucial SSD running Windows 7 x64 using boot-to-vhd. Lately I started to experience some random freezes for 5-30 seconds. And when I say "freeze" I mean it; it's like a time machine - no input taken, nothing is written anywhere, no log, no disk activity. And then suddenly machine would wake up and continue as if nothing happened. I do suspect that it's one of the drivers but I don't see any updates in the log lately except for .NET 4 framework and Adobe Reader. Out of new or updated software I can only recall Skype and IE9 but freezes started to occur definitely before IE install. Regular software includes but not limited to: Office 2010, VMWare Workstation, IE9, Chrome, Skype, Seesmic/TweeterDeck, Live Writer. How should I approach the "hunting season" to find our the culprit? Any tools or packages that could help me to identify the component, program, driver that causes the freeze? Cheers

  I'm having a complete 'mare of a time trying to use my schools Digital Blue cameras. We've got the model 3 ones, but can't find the driver disc and using the Windows Hardware Installation Wizard gets me no where! Can you help me to find the driver? When I've used it at my old school it had a piece of software called the Digital Movie Creator, which I've heard you can use to make stop-motion films, which is what I want to do!   Hello everyone I have a SD memory card which is of local manufacturer it allows to read & copy from it but not write as it is now write-protected so i want to format that card but could not. To format this card I have tried 1) DD command 2) mkfs -f vfat command 3) creating registry entry under storage device policy in window with write value 0 4) disk part command in window to clear attributes in which it show all attributes are clear ie no write protection 5) I format card in windows through control panel - administrative tools- computer management - disk management, then it show as formatted but when I tried to create new partition it give CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK error 6) I downloaded a format utility from transcend site and formatted first it shows write protected again doing format it formats and tells to remove and reinsert after reinsertion it shows the previous data as it is

• How to configure a wireless router to point to a remote www proxy

  I have a LG smart Tv with browser. I need the tv browser to connect to a uk based proxy server on port 808. Unfortunately there is no option within tv to setup proxy for its browser. Now the Tv connects via a wireless connection to the internet. IE: TV <- D-Link DIR-605L <- ADSL <- WWW. Is it possible to setup this wireless router to connect the TV to the Proxy ?? If so ? where ? and what setings do i need to change in the wireless router ?? In short my question is ? How do i get the wireless router to make up for the lack of proxy connectivity within my Tv browser ?? • Windows 7 - Non Admin run as Admin for Explorer - still can't see all tmp internet files

  I'm trying to retrieve video files from the IE 8 cache for a user that's not an admin in Win 7. As a non admin user, I run Explorer as admin and still can't see the temp internet files for the non admin user. Only if I login as a user that is admin can I see the files. Is there any way I can see the files w/o having to go through the login process? Essentially, I want the video file from this page and others like it: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/111585/1027823

• Windows 8 - can't drag files from Explorer and drop on applications

  In Windows 8 I find I can't drag files to applications like I've been able to do for as long as I can remember. Example: Drag MP3s to Winamp Drag folder full of music to Winamp Drag videos to VLC Drag txt, reg etc files to Notepad I have tried various combinations of: Running Explorer as administrator Running drop target as administrator Taking ownership of drop target application's folder Taking ownership of Explorer Changing user account to administrator Create a new user account Lowering UAC level Disabling UAC in GUI Disabling UAC in registry Running Explorer folders in a separate thread This is the last straw if there's no known proper (ie non hacky compromise) fix for this. "Little" things like this combined are a productivity nightmare and if I have to relearn so much and configure so much to get basic things done with an OS I might as well just move to Linux once and for all.

• How to diagnose "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

  Our web site is working great for 99.99% of our users, but a few people (all of whom use Internet Explorer) are running into an error. Most pages on the site load fine, but for one specific page (the same page for all affected users), all they get is: Internet explorer cannot display the webpage It doesn't matter whether the page is accessed over http or https - it fails to load either way. Every other page on the site, as far as I can tell, works fine for them. Not only that, the same users can load that specific page fine in Firefox. I've checked the web server logs and I can't find any smoking guns there. The site is running IIS on Windows Server 2003. Is there any way to get IE to give the user more information than just "cannot display the web page"? There's a "More information" button, but all it tells you is to make sure that your DNS servers are working, make sure you're not working offline, etc. :(

• Web Fonts in Firefox behind Squid

  It appears as though Firefox requests web fonts (specifically Google's) in a different manner than other browsers. They fail to load when behind Squid as a result, and I'm trying to isolate why. Using this page as a reference in various browsers, Firefox noticeably displays it differently. In the Squid logs, you see hits like this: TCP_DENIED/407 3292 GET http://themes.googleusercontent.com/font? - NONE/- text/html If you load the same page with IE, you see hits like this: TCP_DENIED/407 4389 GET http://themes.googleusercontent.com/static/fonts/federant/v1/C109bUmZeyhh-vIXq9lNfvesZW2xOQ-xsNqO47m55DA.woff - NONE/- text/html So why the difference and how can we make it play nice with Firefox? This is running Squid 3.1.15, but also tested with a few other 3.1.x versions.

• Flash movie randomly freeze the browser

  Just recently it seems that my flash player have had some troubles to display flash videos (youtube/dailymotions and others like this). This issue was supposed to be fixed with Flash Player 10 beta if I remember correctly. My flash player is currently at the lastest version available (10.0.45.2) I'm currently on Windows 7 x64. I tried to uninstall it and reboot and reinstall it, didn't work. Sometimes when it freeze and I reboot it "fixes" temporary the problem. The freeze problem is each and every browser. If one fails and freeze, every browsers using the plugin or ActiveX (Opera 10.5/Chrome 5/Safari 4/IE 8/FF 3.7 all installed) will freeze upon playing. I'm quite out of inspirations for fixing this up now I dare say.

• Why does Windows Update download updates for 32-bit Win 7 when I have 64-bit and how to solve it?

  I have my Windows Update set to "I'll choose when to install" instead of updates installing automatically; good thing too because 90% of the updates are for 32-bit systems! Am I suppose to install them? Shouldn't I only install 64-bit version updates? And, how to I make Windows Update download the proper updates only? Side question: Is there a way to "unselect all" in the Windows Update app? Win 7 64-bit. IE 8.

• Linux script to kill process listening on a particular port

  I have a process that listens on a TCP port (?0003). From time to time it crashes - badly. It stops working, but continues hogging the port for some time, so I can't even restart it. I'm looking to automate this. What I do right now is: netstat -ntlp |grep -P "\*\:\d0003" To see what the PID is and then: kill -9 <pid> Does anyone have a script (or EXE for that matter) that would link the two steps together, ie. parse the PID from the first command and pass it to the second?

• Setting up multiple wireless access points on same network

  I'd like to add wireless to my network, and I need multiple access points to cover the whole area. I'd like to set them up so that there's only one "wireless network" that the clients see, and it switches them as seamlessly as possible between access points as they wander around (if that's not possible, then at least have it so that they don't need to set up the security by hand on each one the first time, if possible). I've searched online, and there are quite a few sets of mixed instructions (same vs different SSID, frequency, does the security need to match exactly, etc.). Can somebody who has some experience doing this please let me know what they did? I imagine it's pretty simple, but there seems to be no clear cut "yes, you can do this" online, even though I know you can. I have a mid-size LAN with about 20 workstations and two Domain Controllers on it. Also, I'll be doing this with consumer wireless components, if it makes a difference, not enterprise-level components (ie. Linksys rather than Cisco).

I tried to use custom search engine, but they all break search suggestions, not even something like https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion} {google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStats} {google:searchFieldtrialParameter}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding} which include parameters like acceptedSuggestion that seems to imply seach suggestions being enabled. But no, search suggestions still don't work. In addition. some websites suggest editing Local State file under Chrome's setting folder. I already tried that, and it didn't work at all. So, is there any way to use google.com as default search engine without breaking search suggestions?

• Finding trends in multi-category data in Excel

  I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains hundreds of rows of data that each represent a single sample in a larger population. Each row is divided into three columns that contain frequency counts of a specific type of thing. Together the three columns summed on a single row represent 100%, though each row will sum to a different value. What I'm most interested in are the proportions of each of these types (ie. percentages of each column relative to the sum of the three columns). I can easily calculate this on a per-row basis, but what I'm really interested in is trying to find an overall trend from the entire population. I don't really spend much time doing data analysis so the only thing I can think of trying is to create those percentage columns and then average them, but I'm sure there must be a better way to visualise this.

  Hi, I am using Solr (1.4) AutoSuggest feature using termsComponent. Currently, if I type 'goo' means, Solr suggest words like 'google'. But I would like to receive suggestions like 'google, google alerts, ..' . ie, suggestions with single and multiple terms. Not sure, whether I need to use edgengrams for that. for eg, indexing google like 'go', 'oo', 'og', ... . But I think I don't need this, Since I don't want partial search. Please let me know if there is any way to do multiple word suggestions . Thanks in Advance.
