  • Standalone application in C, a good idea?

    The term has several definition according to Wikipedia, however what I'm really interested in is creating a program that has all its needed dependencies included within the source folder, so the end user doesn't need to install additional libraries for the app to install. For example, how Mac apps has all its dependencies all within the program itself already... or is there a function that autotools does this? I'm programming in the Linux environment...

I want to put on a big screen my app, while I am presenting at a conference. I will directly interact with the phone during the presentation and I want the mobile screen visible on the big screen.     When I run python ./manage.py sql grading my django site comes up with: Error: App with label grading could not be found. Are you sure you INSTALLED_APPS setting is correct? I have the app grading with __init__.py and everything, and my INSTALLED APPS is: INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'django.contrib.sites', 'django.contrib.admin', 'teachline.courses', 'teachline.grading', ) Why isn't this working?

  • Console output spits out Chinese(?) characters

    This is a real shot in the dark, however maybe someone had a similar issue. Some console apps are being invoked by either SQL Server 2008, or Autosys (job schedule) under Windows Server 2008; output results of execution are being saved into .txt files. Every so often, with no definite pattern as far as I can tell saved output is displayed as a series of what I presume are Chinese characters. Have anyone encountered phenomenon above?

  • Spring MVC: Where to place validation and how to validation entity references.

    Let's say I have the following command bean for creating a user: public class CreateUserCommand { private String userName; private String email; private Integer occupationId; pirvate Integer countryId; } occupationId and countryId are drop down selected values on the form. They map to an entity in the database (Occupation, Country). This command object is going to be fed to a service facade like so: userServiceFacade.createUser(CreateUserCommand command); This facade will construct a user entity to be sent to the actual service. So I suppose that in the facade layer I will have to make several dao calls to map all the lookup properties of the User entity. Based on this what is the best strategy to validate that occupationId and countryId map to real entities? Where is the best place to perform this validation? There is the spring validator but I am not sure this is the best place for this, for one I am wary of this method as validation is tied to the web tier, but also that means I would need to make the dao calls in the validator for validation but I would need to call the dao's in the facade layer again when the command - entity translation occurs. Is there anything I can do better? Thanks.

    SPL and PHP allows you to create objects on the fly from classes, that fulfill certain conditions, such as implementing certain interfaces and stuff like that. However, I would like to do something similar in c# and automatically create objects from all classes in a namespace and invoke a particular method from those classes that implement a certain interface. My experience developing desktop apps is very limited. I am not quite sure if I should use delegates to archive this or if reflection is really the way to go.

  • Has anyone ever worked with a UX designer who also did the graphic design, is it a good combination?

    I need to design a new framework for web based apps, including both UX guidelines and the art/graphic design guidelines such as what menus will look like, headers, colors, fonts etc. The UX designers I met, were unable to provide the artistic side, and the graphic designers didn't have the UX skills. Should I continue to look for one person with both skills, or is it better broken to two separate tasks?

    I am new to photo apps, recently I am interested in making a sticker app like those can be seen in the appstore, I know I would need to use uiimagepickercontroller, uiscrollview and uigesturerecognizer. However I wonder which code method should I use for the app to load multiple stickers? Should it be called programmatically? Is that I would need to use the if-statement, say if one sticker is loaded, the app will auto generate a new sticker on top of it?

I'm nervous about using beta versions but at the same time I really like what they are doing and don't want to deal with legacy 2.3.5 issues with these apps.     I need to start building an Android app that uses the JUCE libraries. I'm reading the web site and trying to figure stuff out. I tried installing JUCE on an Ubuntu 11.04 system, and when I built the IntroJucer app, the menus don't work right (they flash open when I click with the mouse but then disappear). Can a JUCE app for Android be built on Mac OS X, or even Windows? If you are using JUCE to build Android apps, please give me any advice you can.
