• re-open background application via notification item

  I got an app with tabs and a notification bar entry, when I send it to background (click on home button) and try to re-open the application via click on the notification bar, the app restarts (last selected tab is lost). When I hold the home button if the application is in the background and select it from there or click the app's icon on the homescreen, the previous state is restored per default (the correct tab is selected) IMO the intent of the notification is wrong, but I'm not sure how to fix it. In short: How to get a background application back to foreground when I click the notification entry? thx!

• Play local video with an HTML/Javascript based Adobe Air application

  I'm trying to add some video playback (that will be used for a tutorial) to my Adobe Air application. I'm not a Flex or Flash developer and my application is HTML/Javascript based, so I'm having trouble with some of the video solutions I've been able to find. Here is one of the examples I've found that is flex based: Playing local files with Air I've looked for a free flash video player that I could just embed. But the only one I've found I was unable to coerce to play files from my Air application directory. I was exited at the prospect of using the HTML5 video tag which I thought Air supported, but that also seems to not work. Can anyone recommend a free flash video player that I can embed? Or a solution that doesn't have to be built completely from flex?

• Linkedin: Registering Application for both Web and Mobile

  My project deals with both Web app and Mobile app. So before we can use Linkedin API's into our project we need to register our app with Linkedin according to this Quick Start. But for my situation where i use Linkedin API's for both web and mobile, Do i need to register two application with Linkedin. Or is there any other way to register a single application and use the same for both web and mobile? In the registration page i don't see any distinction for Web and Mobile, unlike facebook where a single application registered can be used for both web and mobile app. If anyone could point me to appropriate docs or pointers, it would be really helpful. Please forgive me for posting here as there wasn't any appropriate forum to choose from. Thank you.

• Drools - Doing Complex Stuff inside a Rule Condition or Consequence

  Hello, In my company we are planning to use Drools a BRE for couple of projects. Now we trying to define some best-practices. My question is what should be and shouldn't be done inside a Rule Condition/Consequence. Given that we can write Java directly or call methods (for example From a Global object in the Working Memory). Example. Given a Rule that evaluates a generic Object (e.g. Person) have property set to true. Now, that specific propertie can only be defined for that Object going to the database and fetching that info. So we have two ways of implementing that: Alternative A: Go to the database and fetch the object property (true/false, a code) Insert the Object in the working memory Evaluate the rule Alternative B: Insert a Global Object that has a method that connects to the database and check for the property for the given object. Insert the Object to eval in Working Memory In the rule, call the Global Object and perform the access to the database Which of those is considered better? I really like A, but sometimes B is more straightforward, however what would happen if something like a Exception from the Database is raised? I have seen the alternative B implemented in the Drools 5.0 Book from Packt Publishing,however they are doing a mocking and they don't talk about the actual implications of going to the database at all. • How to make an application scriptable in Linux

  I've written an application in C++ that takes a complex binary file format and translates it into human-readable text. Having edited the text you can recompile it back into the binary file format. This would be more useful if the application's internal object model was scriptable. On Windows I'd expose the objects using COM or .Net but I want this to work on Linux. I could embed a scripting language but that's a fair bit of work, and limits users to the scripting language I choose. Ideally, I'm looking for some way of exposing a scriptable DOM from my application that is: Widely support in scripting languages (without writing language-specific wrappers) Cross-platform (but Linux support is most important) In-process (but this isn't essential)

• Recognizing the source of Facebook application user

  Hello, When serving an iframe application in Facebook, is there anyway I can know when a user visits my site through Facebook as an application or if he reached the site directly (typed my domain URL in the browser)? I know I can check if the user has a cookie (named "u") which tells me that the user used facebook to get an access_token. However, if the user visited the application one minute ago and got the access_token cookie, but then typed the URL in the browser, checking for the existence of the cookie will return TRUE, although the visitor arrived to the site directly. Users will have different custom metrics, businesses willl have seperate metrics, the admin section will have seperate, Advertises will have seperate, etc. So basically the goal is to have 1 framework in place for all Analytics, which will be custom user to user and even use that for the system analytic needs also. It will include data analytics as there will be user ratings/reviews to perfomr data mining on for businesses, USers will have basic reporting on their needs (like friend demographics, filter by different preferences, etc). • Deploy SMO application to workstation without SQL Server 2008 installed

  I am trying to deploy an application that uses SMO on a workstation without SQL Server installed on it. The instance the app is connecting to is SQL Server 2008. The application is failing with: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication, Version 10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845cdc8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. The assembly in question is in the same path as my application as well as system32. I am running this on a Windows 7 64 bit box. I have run SQL Native Client, CLR, and SMO MSIs from the 2008 SMO redist download page. This app worked fine when connecting to SQL Server 2005. What gives?

  It seems most of the work is in business is applications like inventory, sales, banks, medical, human resources, government, insurance, document processing, file archiving etc. Would you agree? From my point of view business applications seem to occupy over 90% of the job offerings(because no one wants to work on those?). Furthermore, each big app I have worked on, the application itself sucked, like being paid in compensation for putting up with a bad code base and product. Seeing how those business apps seem to occupy most of the market, should one accept that this is just the sad reality of this business? Do you get to develop on projects that are more dynamic than those?

  Hello, I am looking for pointers, examples, etc. to create a basic application in sharepoint 2010 using visual studio. The application would show a list on page 1 (driven by linq entities). When you click a row, it shows a details page. I've gone through the tutorials but could not find a basic crud-like example as explained above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I missed something in one of the tutorials, please let me know.   im working on a Windows Phone 7 Application that communicates with a Azure hosted WCF service. Everything works fine in communication and so on. But i want to handle the situation when the Service is not online. Now the WP7 App has a main screen with a login. After clicking the "Login" button the Application sends the credentials to the WCF Service which communicates with a Database. And now my question is, is there a way to get the online/offline state of the WCF Service? So i could give feedback to the user and the application wouldnt crash (: Thx alot for any answer!

• looking for advise on importing excel into mysql with php

  Alright, see if I can pick your brains from you all. I'm currently working on a project where all the information comes from different clients, the only thing in common is that the received data is done with excel. The excel spread sheet that they present is just a bunch of references and codes, and the problem than I'm facing is that I need the references and codes to be entered in certain format in order for the website to work. The perfect situation will be to go to each client and teach how I would need the data, but I can't do that because of the large number of clients, and more importantly I will be interrupting their work flow. Each client has its own codes and reference model and they are not willing to change their process The good news is that there is a standard pattern for the codes, but I'm talking close to 200 thousand codes with a bunch of combination. They way that we are currently solving the problem is that we have a person who checks each excel sheet received, runs a few macros, and manually fixes those codes in which the macro was not able to fix. The person that is doing this, is already burn out and frustrated and I would like to automatize this process with php. Suggestions?

• Clickonce application does not update or launch.

  I have a winforms application that I have deployed using clickonce, but the users navigate to a network drive and double click on setup.msi instead of using a webpage to install it. I have two users that have it installed and it's worked in the past. I did an udpate last week and now when the users try to launch the application the window that says "Verifying Application Requirements" pops up then when it disappears nothing happens. The dialog asking if it's ok to update never pops up. The network people have verified that they have permissions on the network drive (though, I would expect an error message if this were the issue). Any clues what could cause this to happen?

  Hello, I have developed a test service with WCF, which I try to consume from a Windows Phone 7 Application, however when calling a method from the service I get a weird exception: There was no endpoint listening at https://server/Service.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. The WCF service uses a custom binding with UserNameOverTransport authentication and SSL. For the authorization I am using an implementation of the UserNamePasswordValidator. If I try to consume the service from a console or silverlight application (cross domain policy is enabled) - it works fine (authorization as well). And the most weird thing is that the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file generated for the WP7 App is exactly the same as the config file generated for the silverlight application. I have no idea what is wrong with my service...

  I'm developing a cube in SSAS and attempting to model the following relationships: Many Facts to 1 Customer Many Customers to Many Sales Reps Many Sales Reps (Subordinates) to Sales Reps (Managers) Each M2M relationship is facilitated by a bridge table which also acts as a fact table in the cube I have most of this working. I can slice Facts by Customer and by Sales Rep (Subordinate), but when I add Sales Rep (Manager) to the query it appears to return every subordinate/manager combination regardless of whether or not that relationship exists in the bridge table. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

• Ability to Choose From Multiple SQLite DBs for Iphone Application

  I am working on the design and implementation of an iPhone application ( a newbie, but I am getting the hang of it) where a person can download specific contact information about teachers based on their majors. The information is currently on different edu websites. And I have exported the information into SQLite databases. Is it possible to develop the application that when it is first initiated, it can give the user the option of which particular SQLite database they want for their application? Or if not, would it be better to merge all the DBs into one DB, and allow the user the option of downloading specific information from the SQLite db. I see that the db's can be downloaded into an app, but have yet to find a solution where there can be an option to download from different SQLite dbs. Thanks!
