Hi,
I am stuck with count down in ajax, I have a small website where I ask each user 5 question in 1 min time, after they login using asp.net membership provider. I want when the user time is over he/she must be taken to result page and show the result, I am using asp.net ajax timer, but if the user press F5 his time start again and by pressing F5 he can continue his test.
how can I stop that. also is there a easy way to show countdown using Ajax for 60sec

Arshad
I am not new to Asp.net but I just noticed there is a Asp.net Web Application you can create if you do File New Project Web. So I was wondering what the difference is between this and File New Web Site.
The process of converting from Visual Studio .NET 2003 to Visual Studio 2008 is satisfyingly start forward.
I thought it would be worth asking a couple of questions though:
1) Are there any 'gotchas' with this conversion process that we should be aware of?
2) Same question goes for upgrading the .NET Framework from 1.1 to 3.5?
Thanks.
Can anyone recommend libraries for generating SAML assertions for a federated sign-on implementation in .NET. It would be ideal if it was integrated with the ASP.NET membership API.
What caching libraries would you consider to be the most important or useful for .NET?
I'm asking because I need to contact them to see they plan on supporting .NET 4.0's caching framework.
I need a way to track all allocations in a .NET application that happen during a single step in the process of debugging my application. I mean, when I'm in the debugger, stepping through code, I would like to see for a single step what allocation took place. Is there a tool or a way to do it? I tried several memory profilers including CLR profiler, JetBrains and .NET Memory Profiler 3.5 and none of them seems to provide this kind of funcionality.
I've got basic page templates working in ASP.NET from master pages and can include pages in ASP.NET - however, I'm having difficulty extracting from pages and paginating them.
This is the design structure (i.e. the model for my site) I'm trying to base it on:

I have an SQL Driver installed, my ODBC Advisor says it is MySQL ODBC Driver 5.1.
How should I get this project to work, now I have the basics under way?
I am reading the Asp.net security documentation on msdn.I come across these tow terms and get really confused.
# WindowsIdentity = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent(),
which returns the identity of the security context of the currently executing Win32 thread.
# Thread = Thread.CurrentPrincipal
which returns the principal of the currently executing .NET thread which rides on top of the Win32 thread.
I have started a new project in .NET which uses some old system's datababase in MySql. The data stored in mysql is periodicaly transfered to MS Sql on which our system works.
I need to authenticate users with their login and password. User's passwords are stored as hash generated by OLD_PASSWORD function from mysql.
Is there any way to generate such hash using Ms Sql or .NET ?
My google-fu is failing me on this one.
As a possible solution to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1679404/unit-testing-net-3-5-projects-using-mstest-in-vs2010 (but I've put this in a seperate question because it's kind of unrelated):
Is there any information available regarding if/when .NET 4.0 support will be added to Windows Azure?
Cheers!
Hi.
I'm looking for a component like skype, icq, messenger or any other of that type, which I can integrate into my asp.net 3.0 / asp.net 3.5 web application, which enables chatting, sending messages, files etc. between the users of the web application. like GTalk one to one communication NOT chat room
Note that only users whose user details are stored in the database and are authenticated, are able to use the web application, and therefore the component.
I have a legacy application that I inherited that passes a lot of XML around as Strings.
I often need the ability to check if a String will be valid XML. What is the fastest and least expensive way to check if a string is valid XML in .NET?
I'm working in .NET 3.5 and would most likely use this as an extension method (off of string) in this one project within the solution.
I'm developing an in-house .NET application that will be run on a VM (with VMware), and want to know if there's a way to get notifications from VM system events (like suspending, resumed, etc.)
Anyone know of a convenient way to do that? The virtual machine has VMware Tools installed, does that provide a .NET API for hooking events?

I am told that the configuration below is possible, but have had significant difficulty in finding instructions on how to set it up. While I'm trying to muddle my way through this on my own, maybe stack-overflow knows of better sources for documentation:
I am looking for a walkthrough, including a downloadable, working example, for setting up the following configuration:
Server-side .net application (For .net 2.0 or higher), installed/deployed as a windows' service (that is, not served through IIS), and accessed by a client tool that is completely implemented in JavaScript.
I have a .NET app running inside a Peoplesoft web portal IFrame.
What I need to do is get the URL of the portal (parent) that called my .NET app.
So far I've tried to get the URL inside my c# code using Request.Url.AbsoluteUri but this is not working.
I'm assuming I will have to do this in JavaScript, or is it possible to get the browser's URL inside my c# code?
Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering how to prevent Session fixation in ASP.NET
My approach would to this would normally be to generate and issue a new session id whenever someone logs in. But is this level of control possible in ASP.NET land?
Can someone suggest ASP.Net source editor which I can integrate into my web site
expected features:
Highlight ASP.Net source code, including server code / javascript code / html / css
Intelligent suggesting when typing the code. (this is optional)
"Design View" is not required. I just need the code view, please suggest,

How can I go to an anchor tag on the page when the myDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged() event fires?
I am using regular ASP.NET Forms.
Update: The following is valid for an ASP.NET Button. I would like to achieve the same functionality (going to #someAnchor) when I select an option from the Dropdown list.
<asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Do IT" Width="186px" PostBackUrl="#myAnchor" CausesValidation="false" />
