  • JavaScript Trigger window.open When a User Clicks Anywhere on Page

    I have a problem that I have been trying to figure out and haven't been able to get past it because Chrome/FireFox/IE do not publicly publish their "rules" for pop up blocking when it comes to JavaScript, Flash, etc. I am trying to trigger a window.open() when a user clicks anywhere on page. I've tried this: document.onclick = window.open("http://msn.com"); But all 3 browsers are blocking the popup, even though it is a user interaction.

  • Create custom launchers in GNOME 3

    I'm using Debian testing, and I have been switched to GNOME 3 by the Debian update yesterday. I'm not very comfortable with the UI. I wanted to customize everything like I had it with GNOME 2, but I simply couldn't find any way to change preferences like I'm used to. I've digged some, but all answers I could find did not help me achieve my goals. So please, if anyone knows the solution to this I'd be thankful: 1) I want several launchers that launch terminals, with different arguments and different coloring/title. I have searched everything and there seems to be no menu, no right-click, nothing which is standard in any UI I know. How can I create several launchers in this bar on the left side that launch the same application, just with different parameters? With GNOME 2 this was a piece of cake. 2) I want to switch between different terminals using ALT-TAB. Right now, I'm always just getting to the same, already-opened terminal. When I open two terminals by simply creating the second one by issuing xterm &, I still get one Terminal entry with ALT-TAB, and I have to navigate with cursor keys or mouse wheel to select one of the two xterminals. Instead, I want to open a new terminal when I click the quick launch terminal icon from the bar on the left side of the screen and navigate through them like on KDE/GNOME 2/Windows/any reasonable UI. Can this be done? 3) Is there a trick to make bluetooth devices work like on GNOME 2? Right now, my BT keyboard won't pair anymore, which, as you can imagine, makes me pretty angry. and, if anything fails: 4) How can I switch back to GNOME 2 again? :-) Honestly, who did design this? What were they smoking? I feel like I'm not allowed to do anything except start one of any application that has an icon and just with the default parameters. That can't be true, right? I feel massively restrained by this stuff :(

  • How do I install Photoshop CS2 in Wine w/ Creative Suite Installer?

    I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and wanted to install Photoshop CS2 in Wine (wine1.2). From what I've read, the Photoshop installer and application should both run fine. However, I don't have a specific installer for Photoshop. The setup program on the CD is for the entire Creative Suite 2 bundle. When I try to run it, I get through the splash screen, license agreement, and language selection screens, but when I click the button to start/customize the installation, the installer dies. The Photoshop CS 2 folder on the CD has two exe files, instmsia.exe and instmsiw.exe, and I tried those, hoping to find a stand-alone Photoshop installer, but neither work. I tried downloading a trial, but my license key is apparently for the entire bundle, because it didn't work. Does anyone know of a work-around for this or a way to make the Creative Suite installer work? I'm currently running Photoshop under a WinXP VM, but it would be nice to have the option of using it via Wine, so I don't have to boot the VM every time I want to edit an image (and also reading/writing to my Ubuntu shares is really slow in Virtualbox).     Hi - I'm trying to open a file located on a networkshare by giving the anchor tag path = file://///servername/folder/file.docx This works in IE8 and i'm able to open the file in word, however in Firefox nothing happens. I believe it's due to some secruity settings in Firefox. I tried about:config and turning off the checkloaduri value. But it didnt solve the problem. Does anyone know how I can make this work in both IE and Firefox.

    Hi, Can I use Linq-to-xml to persist my object state without having to use/know Xpath & XSD Syntax? ie. really looking for simple but flexible way to persist a graph of object data (e.g. have say 2 or 3 classes with associations) - if Linq-to-xml were as simple as saying "persist this graph to XML", and then you could also query it via Linq, or load it into memory again/change/then re-save to the xml file.

When i check get the pid of the process that is connected to the local port, i get the pid of the svchost.exe process. How can i get the user account that the call was associated to?

  • Are there localization tools which spot content strings in xaml/wpf?

    When globalizing a wpf application with static resx classes, it's very easy to miss the odd label or button that has its Content property set to a hard coded string in a particular language, ie English. These should of course be moved off to a {x:Static ...} so they can be localised for each culture. Are there any tools which can spot this and warn you? Built in to VS would be ideal, but I'm thinking that 'style cop' type build tools would do the job as well.

  • Responding to preference updates in Android

    I am calling a PreferenceActivity from another activity and then updating the application state (ie: changing the font size) on onActivityResult, based on the preference changes. I was thinking it would be better to put the state update logic in the PreferenceActivity. That way I don't have the duplicate the logic in each activity that calls the PreferenceActivity. What's the best or correct way to do this?

    Hi I have a site that uses flex and calls controller actions which returns json to the flex. This works fine in a dev server , the folder that has the flex app lives inside the web project and in the dev ennvironment, makes calls hostname, ie www.someurl.com in the actual live scenario, this will be an intranet so not hostname to call, the flex app seems to have trouble calling http://localhost/Virtual directory name it seems to totally miss the virtual directory name. I am obviously missing something basic, any help?

    If I have a hash in Perl that contains complete and sequential integer mappings (ie, all keys from from 0 to n are mapped to something), is there a means of converting this to an Array? I know I could iterate over the key/value pairs and place them into a new array, but something tells me there should be a built-in means of doing this.
