• accessing $_SESSION when using file_get_contents in PHP

  I am basic - intermediate developer using php and am a little stumped as to what I have found. I need some help in understanding how to alleviate this issue: I have a page called send.email.php which sends an email - pretty simple stuff - I pass an order id, it creates job request and sends it out. This works fine when used in the context I developed it (Use javascript to make an AJAX call to the URL and pass the order_id as a query parameter) I am now trying to reuse the exact same page in another application however I am calling it using php file_get_contents($base_url.'admin/send.email.php?order_id='.$order_id). When I call the page this way, the $_SESSION array is empty isempty() = 1. Is this because I am initiating a new session using file_get_contents and the values I stored in the $_SESSION on login are not available to me within there? Any help? Thanks

• Effective file permissions tool's api in windows

  Starting from Windows Server 2003, Windows included a new tool which calculates the effective permissions for a user (basically it resolves all groups access and takes care of all "deny" permissions as well). An example in point is that a user A belongs to groups B and C. B has been denied read permissions on a file F, while C has been allowed read and write permissions on the file and I want to calculate the effective permissions user A has on file F. This tool is available on Windows Server 2003,Vista,7 and Server 2008 by right clicking on a file and going to properties - security - advanced - effective permissions. What I need is an API in C# which does the same job. The most common FILE API returns access rules (class FileAccessRules), but there seems to be no direct way to calculate effective permissions from these set of access rules. Note: I do not want to process effective permissions in the code if at all possible, but am ready to do so as a last resort.

• Is it possible to interop with Thunderbird using C#?

  Here's the latest hurdle in my ongoing quest to automate my job: All email in the company goes through 4 different email adresses, switching randomly back and forth (with a note attached in the global share: please set "keep email on server") All logic related to email is contained in a nice big Thunderbird profile, which gets copied back and forth to new machines; this includes sorting invoices into 5 different "folders", the list of VIP adresses to send notifications, and the VIP level of those customers I only need the contents of those folders (the attachments, anyway) The question: is there a way to ask Thunderbird for those attachments and lists from C#? Alternatively, can Outlook be set up to synchronize with Thunderbird? Where do I start reading? Ditching Thunderbird is not an option right now, I need to keep up with changes to the VIP list. P.S. I will set up a real email server right after Monkey saves me enough time to convince people about it.

• Fastest way to calculate an X-bit bitmask?

  I have been trying to solve this problem for a while, but couldn't with just integer arithmetic and bitwise operators. However, I think its possible and it should be fairly easy. What am I missing? The problem: to get an integer value of arbitrary length (this is not relevant to the problem) with it's X least significant bits sets to 1 and the rest to 0. For example, given the number 31, I need to get an integer value which equals 0x7FFFFFFF (31 least significant bits are 1 and the rest zeros). Of course, using a loop OR-ing a shifted 1 to an integer X times will do the job. But that's not the solution I'm looking for. It should be more in the direction of (X << Y - 1), thus using no loops.

• Using ptrace to generate a stack dump

  Hello. I am compiling C++ on *nix and I would like to generate a stack dump a) at an arbitrary point in the program, b) during any signal, particularly during SIGSEGV. Google tells me that ptrace is probably the tool for the job, but I can't find any comprehensible examples of walking the stack. Getting the return address, yeah, but what about the NEXT return address? And what about extracting the symbolic name of the function at that point? Something to do with DWARF? Many thanks if you can tell me where to go from here.

• Asynchronous Processing = Spanning Threads = Valid?

  Hello Experts, am I allowed (without any sideeffects) to create and start a new Thread() from within a doGet() Method of a servlet? Or does this somehow leak ressources? Is it valid to also pass the "Session" Object into the Thread to later save the result of my asynchronous processing (I will synchronized correctly) in the session? Or will this leak ressources when using the session "in indepedant threads"? = What would happen if the session meanwhile would be expired by the webcontainer as it has timedout and I will access it from my thread? Or would could this also lead to the sideffect, that storing the session in the thread will prevent the webcontainer from expiring the session at all (and therefore finally leak ressources as the sessions do not get cleared up)? (I know there are other Solutions, like working with DB-(Job)Records, JMS or Servlets 3.0) but I need so solve the problem as described by spanning a new Thread within doGet.) Thank you very much!! • "Forked Java VM exited abnormally" error from junit tests

  I have a java junit test that passes when run alone on a development machine. We also have a hudson job which runs all the tests, invoked via ant, on a Mac OS X 10.4 node with Java 1.5. The test was passing in the hudson build until recently but now (with no related code changes) one test fails everytime with the following error: Error Message Forked Java VM exited abnormally. Please note the time in the report does not reflect the time until the VM exit. Stacktrace junit.framework.AssertionFailedError: Forked Java VM exited abnormally. • Large PHP enable web form - around 75 field - how best to send email with all fields?

  Have created simple Ajax enabled contact forms before that have around 12 fields - worked fine.... Now working on a PHP enabled web page for job applications that has around 100 fields. The ajax technique I was using was to send request via querystrings (&val1=test;&val2=test2 and etc ...) That is not going to scale very well with larger form with 100+ fields.   Hi, My question is: In JUnit, How do I setup xml data for my System Under Test(SUT) without making the SUT read from an XML file physically stored on the file system Background: I am given a XML file which contains rules for creation of an invoice. My job is to convert these rules from XMl to Java Objects e.g. If there is a tag as below in my XML file which indicates that after a period of 30 days, the transaction cannot be invoiced <ExpirationDay>30</ExpirationDay> this converts to a Java class , say ExpirationDateInvoicingRule I have a class InvoiceConfiguration which should take the XML file and create the *InvoicingRule objects. I am thinking of using StAX to parse the XML document within InvoiceConfiguration Problem: I want to unit test InvoiceConfiguration. But I dont want InvoiceConfiguration to read from an xml file physically on the file system . I want my unit test to be independent of any physical stored xml file. I want to create a xml representation in memory. But a StAX parser only takes FileReader( or I can play with the File Object)

  i have a site like twitter.com on server one and on server two i have forum, which path is like domain.com/forum on server one i wanted to implement wild card dns and put main domain on it. but on server two i wanted to keep forum separate, i cant give sub-domain forum.domain.com, because all its links are already put in search engines and link back to domain.com/forum. so i was wondering, how can i put domain and wild card dns on server one and still able to give path on server 2 for domain.com/forum (as sub-folder). any ideas? do you think htaccess can do that job? if yes, then how?

  Hello, To configure aspx pages' OutputCache from one place, there is a great tool which is the CacheProfile attribute in <%@ OutputCache % associated with a custom cache profile defined in the web.config : <caching> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add name="myProfile" duration="300" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> And the line : <%@ OutputCache CacheProfile="myProfile" VaryByParam="None" %> does the job. But how to do the same thing for ascx user controls ? CacheProfile isn't in <%@ OutputCache % :S Is there a workaround ? Thanks.

• Using ELMAH and URLRewritingNet Together

  I have ELMAH setup on my production server and it has done a fantastic job of letting me know about any niggles - as well as any creative SQL injection! I've decided to introduce URl Rewriting and went for http://www.urlrewriting.net/ in the end. It was nice and easy to setup and it's doing exactly what I want with the customer-facing site. The problem is ELMAH. Because I've set the urlrewritingnet node in my config like so: <urlrewritingnet rewriteOnlyVirtualUrls="true" contextItemsPrefix="QueryString" defaultPage = "default.aspx" defaultProvider="RegEx" xmlns="http://www.urlrewriting.net/schemas/config/2006/07" > ...ELMAH likes to do this to it's axd links; http://www.mydomain.com/elmah.axd/stylesheet/default.aspx Does anyone have any idea how to either a) stop the re-writer following the .axd; or b) add rules to the re-writer to get ELMAH to work Any ideas? • Better Alternative to Case Statement

  Hi All, I currently have a switch statement that runs around 300 odd lines. I know this is not as giant as it can get, but I'm sure there's a better way to handle this. The switch statement takes an Enum that is used to determine certain properties that pertain to logging. Right now the problem sets in that it is very easy to leave out an enumeration value and that it will not be given a value as it is not in the switch statement. Is there an option one can use to ensure that every enumeration is used and given a custom set of values it needs to do its job? Thanks, Kyle

  Whenever training topic questions are asked, the answers are fairly typical, and involve a pretty limited subset of topics like OO, design patterns, algorithms, web services, SQL, etc., but I wonder if there are some fringe topics that are still applicable to the programming field and would give me a more rounded approach to development. When I think of "fringe", I think of 2600: The Hacker Quarterly articles that discuss how to use real world (sometimes obscure) exploits, or something like Maker Faire that demonstrates embedded systems programming using Arduino. I have around $1500-2000 to spend, and my job entails Java technologies, but that does not limit my options.

• Getting IIS6 to play nice with WordPress Pretty Permalinks

  I've got a WordPress powered blog that I'm trying to get setup on our IIS6 server and everything works besides the permalink structure which I'm having a big headache with. After googling around/wordpress codex I learned that it's because IIS6 doesn't have the equivalent of Apache's mod_rewrite which is required for this feature to work. So that's where I'm at now. I can't seem to find a functional solution to get the pretty permalinks to work without the "index.php/," anyone have any recommendations? What I can't do: Upgrade to IIS7 Switch to Apache Quit my job Those suggestions have been offered to me, which sadly, I can't do any of those. Just an, FYI.   As requested, I split this question from a two part question I asked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2482071/modern-web-development-general-question My question is how do i convince the young programmers who interview me that my years of system programming experience, MFC, Win32 programming are still relevant and I should not be automatically rejected because I don't know the differences between Drupal and <pick your technology>. It seems like I can ask a dozen question that these guys won't be able to answer but somehow because I don't know the latest fad counts against me. I do read, but if you don't use what you read in your daily work, you will never have expert knowledge of it. So bottom line: is the only way for me to take a .NET or Java job is for me to start at the bottom all over?

• XML parsing with SAX | how to handle special characters?

  We have a JAVA application that pulls the data from SAP, parses it and renders to the users. The data is pulled using JCO connector. Recently we were thrown an exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Character reference "&#00" is an invalid XML character. So, we are planning to write a new level of indirection where ALL special/illegal characters are replaced BEFORE parsing the XML. My questions here are : 1. Is there any existing(open source) utility that does this job of replacing illegal characters in XML? 2. Or if I had to write such utility, how should i handle them? 3. Why is the above exception thrown? Thank You.

• Are there any existing batch log file aggregation solutions?

  I wish to export from multiple nodes log files (in my case apache access and error logs) and aggregate that data in batch, as a scheduled job. I have seen multiple solutions that work with streaming data (i.e think scribe). I would like a tool that gives me the flexibility to define the destination. This requirement comes from the fact that I want to use HDFS as the destination. I have not been able to find a tool that supports this in batch. Before re-creating the wheel I wanted to ask the StackOverflow community for their input. If a solution exists already in python that would be even better.

  Our software installer install firebird if it is not present on the system and, as we are pursuing Win certificate the uninstaller should remove it but, we want to make sure that even if it was the installer that put it there, if any new software is using it now with a new database, we would not remove it (Firebird). The question is: Is it possible to query the server and ask what are the databases running on it? This is it so that we can decide, automatically if we can remove the database or not. A few extra info: Our installer is Innosetup and it does a good job already - we just trying to make it smarter because of the "Developed by" or "Compatible with" windows logo.

Problem is, if I keep /dir/.htaccess, a request of: http://example.com/dir/state/AK/35827/ DOES NOT redirect to: http://www.example.com/dir/state/AK/35827/ as would: http://example.com/ redirect to: http://www.example.com/ Not sure if I made it clear. Basically, how to make http://example.com/dir/state/AK/35827/ correctly redirect to http://www.example.com/dir/state/AK/35827/ AND I can serve virtual URLs?

I wrote a sql like this: select tmp1.id,sum,cond1,cond2 as count from ( select id, count(*) as sum from table_1 group by table1.id) tmp1 left join ( select id, count(*) as cond1 from table1 where condition1 group by table1.id) tmp2 on tmp1.id=tmp2.id left join ( select id, count(*) as cond2 from table1 where condition2 group by table1.id) tmp3 on tmp1.id=tmp3.id the problem is that this is very poor efficiency, it will be better if i could use the result of tmp1, but i don't know how to do that. update: simplified the sql, what i mean is how to reuse the first select result of table_1

• WCSF vs MEF, What's Best For Me?

  Hey fellows, I'm working on a large web application that includes many modules (CRM, Inventory, Administration, etc.) What I want to accomplish is to be able develop each of these modules independently (the UI, Core Logic, DataAccess Logic, and all) and then integrate them all together into a core module (this integration should only be a change in the configuration file). For example, if I have a core module named Host, I should be able to add the CRM module to the host module by simply adding this line to the host's configuration file: <module name="CRM" /> I did some reading on the WCSF, and found that it can help integrate some modules together, but it really doesn't offer so much help in terms of integrating those UI elements. Some friends suggested MEF for the job, but I haven't looked at that yet. What do you guys think? Is it possible to achieve this level of modularity, and how much work do I have to put into it to get it working?
