  • Scripty2 : how to close dialog

    - by nicolas_o
Heya, I am looking for a way to close a scripty2 dialog like this : http://mir.aculo.us/stuff/scripty2-ui/test/functional/controls_dialog.html From outside of the dialog (i.e. with firebug command line) but my javascript mojo is a bit limited and after 30 min of going around the DOM I cannot find a way. Any hints ? NB : scripty2 is a rewrite of script.aculo.us which uses bits of Jquery UI.

  • How to write backwards compatible HTML5 ?

    - by Olivier Lalonde
I'd like to start using HTML5's basic features, but at the same time, keep my code backwards compatible with older browsers (graceful degradation). For instance, I'd like to use the cool CSS3 properties for making rounded corners. Is there any available tutorial for writing gracefully degradable HTML5 ? Additionally, what browsers should I support so that my app. is functional for at least 95% of visitors? What are the ways to test those browsers painlessly ?

  • Higher-kinded Types with C++

    - by Venkat Shiva
This question is for the people who know both Haskell (or any other functional language that supports Higher-kinded Types) and C++... Is it possible to model higher kinded types using C++ templates? If yes, then how?

  • Is OOP based on any branch of mathematics?

    - by ektrules
I know relational databases are based on set-theory, functional programming is based on lambda calculus, logic programming is based on logic (of course :)), and now that I think of it; I'm not sure if imperative and generic programming is based on any particular branch of mathematics either.

  • What are the most important things to know about Ruby?

    - by Brian T Hannan
I am new to the language and I need to know what are the top things that are absolutely necessary to know in order to make a fully functional website or web app using the Ruby programming language? Mainly Ruby on Rails with Rake and other tools that mainly use Rake. Update: I know many other languages like C++, Java, PHP, Perl, etc, etc .... Update 2: This is great ... keep 'em coming!

  • C: performance of assignments, binary operations, et cetera...

    - by Shinka
I've heard many things about performance in C; casting is slow compared to normal assignments, functional call is slow, binary operation are much faster than normal operations, et cetera... I'm sure some of those things are specific to the architecture, and compiler optimization might make a huge difference, but I would like to see a chart to get a general idea what I should do and what I should avoid to write high-performance programs. Is there such a chart (or a website, a book, anything) ?

  • How can I display a full designer file in c#?

    - by George Tyler
So I just got a C# program from someone that compiles and gives me a fully functional application. However, when I want to see the .cs{Design] file it gives me the following error: .ErrorStyle { font-family: tahoma; font-size: 11 pt; .... How can I convert this to an actual Design file? I am working on Visual Studio C#. Thank you very much.

  • Changing window procedure for console window

    - by Anonymous
I want to make console window with a functional tray icon. I figured out that most probably it is necessary to replace initial console's window procedure so I will be able to control all messages including notify area events. But SetWindowLong function returns 0, and GetLastError() tells that access is denied. hwndFound = GetConsoleWindow(); SetWindowLong(hwndFound, GWL_WNDPROC, (long)WndProc); What could it be, or maybe there is some other way to control tray icon manipulations?

  • take performance as the only criterion for a smal site, which framework should I choose on a shared

    - by john
Dear friends, I'm trying to set up a small full functional website for a small community on a shared hosting. Scientific computing is quite heavy. Scalability is not important. The only criterion is performance. Which framework would you suggest among the following:(or more) from your list) 1)Ruby on Rails 2) Grails 3) asp.net 4) zend I'm really new to this area, only starting reading some books and googling different blogs...so your expertise is really appreciated! thanks!

    - by Flavius
Hi I have the following relations (tables) in a relational model Person person_id, first_name, last_name, address Student person_id, matr_nr Teacher person_id, salary Lecture lecture_id, lect_name, lect_description Attendees lecture_id, person_id, date I'm wondering about the functional dependencies of Student and Teacher. Do these tables respect the 3rd normal form? Which should be the primary keys of these tables?

  • Should I use Java for a custom Swing component designed for a clojure app?

    - by nansen
I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it. Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?
