• Generic test suite for ASP.NET Membership/Role/Profile/Session Providers

  Hi! I've just created custom ASP.NET Membership, Role, Profile and Session State providers, and I was wondering whether there exists a test suite or something similar to test the implementation of the providers. I've checked some of the open source providers I could find (like the NauckIt.PostgreSQL provider), but neither of them contained unit tests, and all of the forum topics I've found mentioned only a few test cases (like checking whether creating a user works), but this is clearly not a complete test suite for a Membership provider. (And I couldn't find anything for the other three providers) Are there more or less complete test suites for the above mentioned providers, or are there custom providers out there that have at least some testing avaialable?

• Writing a simple RSpec test to check that Rake tasks are correct

  I'm trying to be diligent about checking my rake tasks with RSpec tests, but in the process of feeling my way around I seem to have hit a wall. If I put the @rake.load_rakefile method in, I want that Rakefile to load. But instead it just bombs out. If I comment it out, however, the test fails because the "specs" task is (understandably) not defined. Where am I going wrong?

For example '1' AND 1=1-- Should break down into tokens like [0] => [SQL_STRING, '1'] [1] => [SQL_AND] [2] => [SQL_INT, 1] [3] => [SQL_AND] [4] => [SQL_INT, 1] [5] => [SQL_COMMENT] [6] => [SQL_QUERY_END] Are their any at least lexers for SQL that I base mine off of or any good tools like bison for C# (though I'd rather not write my own grammar as I need to support most if not all the grammar of MySQL 5)

• In search of a packaged .Net security solution for web-forms.

  We are looking for a security solution for asp.net that has security down to the control level. This is not a necessity but, it would be nice. At the very least it needs to extend-able to allow for control level permissions. The solution should have an administration panel of some sort. It also needs to support roles, groups, and individual permissions. We haven't seen anything like this in the marketplace -- we are in the process of rolling our own solution. We'd rather use an off the shelf solution.

• See if any application has a DLL from the GAC loaded

  I'm trying to deploy new copies of my DLL to the GAC on remote servers, but I need to identify if any processes currently running have a loaded copy of the DLL I'm replacing - I'd like to restart them, or at least tell the user. For example, Biztalk seems to load the DLLs it needs the first time they're used, and then replacing them keeps the old copy in memory until the Host Instances are restarted - something I could easily do as part of my deployment. Is there a way to tell using .NET which processes have loaded a particular DLL from the GAC? UPDATE: Some further investigation shows that both Process Explorer has this functionality, and another Sysinternals tool, ListDLL, does exactly what I want to be able to do. I'd like to know how they do it, since I'd love to replicate this functionality in my application without having to include and screen-scrape ListDLL (if that's even allowed inside the license).

• Help replace this SQL cursor with better code

  Can anyone give me a hand improving the performance of this cursor logic from SQL 2000. It runs great in SQl2005 and SQL2008, but takes at least 20 minutes to run in SQL 2000. BTW, I would never choose to use a cursor, and I didn't write this code, just trying to get it to run faster. • Regex to validate SMTP Responses?

  I'm writing a regular expression that can interactively validate SMTP responses codes, once the SMTP dialog is completed it should pass the following regex (some parentheses added for better readability): ^(220)(250){3,}(354)(250)(221)$ Or with(out) authentication: ^(220)(250)((334){2}(235))?(250){2,}(354)(250)(221)$ I'm trying to do rewrite the above regexes so that I can interactively check if the dialog is going as expected, otherwise politely send a QUIT command and close the connection saving bandwidth and time, but I'm having a hard time writing an optimal regex. So far I've managed to come up with: ^(220(250(334(235(250(354(250(221)?)?)?){0,})?){0,2})?)?$ Which, besides only matching authenticated connections, has some bugs... For instance, it matches: 220250334235250354250221 220250334334235250354250221 I've also tried the following modification: ^(220(250)?)?((334(235)?){2})?(250(354(250(221)?)?)?){0,}$ This one accepts non-authenticated responses but it fails to match 220250334 and wrongly matches 220250334334235250354250221 (at least 2 250 are needed before the 354 response code). Can someone help me out with this? Thanks in advance.

• how to detect an IMAPMessage is not an email but a Task or Calendar item

  I am accessing Lotus and Groupwise using javamail via IMAP, recursively accessing all folders and processing email I find. But in folders like Tasklist and Calendar (those are from Groupwise but I think I remember Lotus had similar things), I get the items in there as instances of IMAPMessage, and so they are processed as if they were mail. I understand those items get exposed as mail through the IMAP protocol (either by design or by mistake), but I only want to process proper mail. Is there a way to do this? I have dismissed following approaches so far: Make sure the message has a message-id, at least in Groupwise Calendar items have it. Ignore folders by name (such as Calendar and Tasklist): is not totally correct as a user can move mail inside those folders. What I am looking is some IMAP api call I have missed so far or something in those lines...

• Monolog conversations in SQL Service Broker 2008

  Hi, I have a scenario in which I need to process(in SQL Server) messages being delivered as .xml files in a folder in real time. I started investigating SQL Service Broker for my queuing needs. Basically, I want the Service Broker to pick up my .xml files and place them in a queue as they arrive in the folder. But, SQL Service Broker does not support "Monolog" conversations, at least not in the current version. It supports only a dialog between an initiator and a target service. I can use MSMQ but then I will have two things to maintain - the .Net Code for file processing in MSMQ and the SQL Server T-SQL stored procs. What options do I have left? Thanks.

  Hello everyone, As a part of an enterprise architecture exercise, i need to find a java-based framework filling these constraints : heavy (i think) load : 5000 concurrent connections widely known : can't be too exotic, the contractors would be too high priced. relatively easy to use : developpement time must be reasonnable must be as compliant as possible with the css/html layout produced by a designer Must look like "web 2.0" from the marketing point of view. What i learned from my limited experience is : jsf : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (at least not without huge effort) wicket : 1, not really. 2, 3 and 4 ok. gwt : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (but more ok than jsf) others : not really "web 2.0" or not really known I'm really junior, so my ideas about those frameworks are probably wrong, that's why i come to you, stackoverflowees.   I downloaded TortoiseHg 1.0 for evaluation. For the life of me I can't figure out how to make a branch. It seems to understand branches (e.g. in its repository browser) but I just can't seem to find a way to make a branch. This seems like such a fundamental capability since out of the often touted benefits of DVC is the lightweight branching. I Googled around and couldn't find much discussion of this topic (at least for recent versions) so I have to assume I'm missing something, right?

• Development team collaboration via Google Wave

  I hope I am not repeating any previously asked question. Anyway, so Google Wave is nice and shiny and sounds like a lot of folks(at least at Google I/O :) used it in a useful for work(!) way. I've been beta-testing Google Wave for sometime now, but can't quite grasp how to improve our workflow using it. We have a medium size team of developers that are spread out around US and Europe and naturally most of communication is happening via IM and Skype and email of course. So what are specific things that could be offloaded to Google Wave to improve collaboration by leaps and bounds(meaning not just replacing IM with nicer IM)?

  I am studying for an exam and one of the sample questions is as follows: Vertex cover: a vertex cover in a graph is a set of vertices such that each edge has at least one of its two end points in this set. Minimum vertex cover: a MINIMUM vertex cover in a graph is a vertex cover that has the smallest number of vertices among all possible vertex covers. Minimal vertex cover a MINIMAL vertex cover in a graph is a vertex cover that does not contain another vertex cover (deleting any vertex from the set would create a set of vertices that is not a vertex cover) Question: A minimal vertex cover isn't always a minimum vertex cover. Demonstrate this with a simple example. Can anyone get their head around this? I am failing to see the distinction between the two. More importantly, I'm having a hard time visualizing it. I seriously hope he's not gonna ask odd questions like this one on the exam!

  My Site's error log is filled with these errors:- This is an invalid script resource request. Invalid viewstate. Invalid character in a Base-64 string. Invalid length for a Base-64 char array. All these errors are appearing at least 100 times a day. After doing some RnD on internet i have done following things:- 1- define machine key in my web config. 2- created robots.txt file and add ScriptResource.axd file in that.   I need at least Java 1.6 to run a program that someone else in my lab wrote On the Java website it tells me to update Java via apple's software update function, i've run this a few times but it only got up to Java 1.5.0_24 and it now says no more updates are available for my computer Is there another way to update Java on a Mac? Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

• Automated testing of a website for IE7 javascript errors?

  This week I decided to add a new element to a javascript array by copying a similar one from a previous line; unfortunately I forgot to remove the comma so the end result was something like var a = [1, 2, 3,]. The code went live late Friday afternoon just before everyone left for the week-end, and it completely broke everything in Internet Explorer 7 (and lower I assume) since it's such a great browser. Since there was no one to read emails (week-end) it went unnoticed for quite a while, and I really don't want something like this to happen again (especially in my code).. This is not the first of weird IE7 problems; I was wondering if there was a way to automatically test key pages looking for javascript or css errors, or really anything that IE8 would output in its new console in development tools. If there isn't, what do you usually do? You test the website after every change with all the browsers you support? (Something I'll do from now, at least for IE, if there is no way to run automated tests)

• Restfull authentication between two GAE apps.

  Hello everyone, i am trying to write a restful google app engine application (python) that accepts requests only from another GAE that i wrote. I dont like any of the ways that i thought of to get this done, please advice if you know of something better than: Get SSL setup, and simply add the credentials on the request that my consuming app will send. I dont like it cause SSL will slow things down. Security by obsecurity. Pass a long number by my consuming app that is in Xmod0, where X is a secret number that both applications know. I just,,,, dont like this. Check the HTTP header to see where is the request coming from. This option is the one that i hate the least, not alot of processing, and spoofing an HTTP request is not really worth it, for my application's data. Is there any other clean solution for this?

  Hello, First of all sorry that I could not think of a more descriptive title. What I want to do is the following using only SQL: I have some lists of strings, list1, list2 and list3. I have a dataset that contains two interesting columns, A and B. Column A contains a TransactionID and column B contains an ItemID. Naturally, there can be multiple rows that share the same TransactionIDs. I need to catch those transactions that have at least one ItemID in each and every list (list1 AND list2 AND list3). I also need to count how many times does that happen for each transaction. [EDIT] That is, count how many full sets of ItemIDs there are for each TransactionID", "Full Set" being any element of the list1 with any element of the list2 with any element of the list3 I hope that makes enough sense, perhaps I will be able to explain it better with a clear head. • Can I resolve ASP.NET "~" app paths to the website root without a Control being present?

  I want to Resolve "~/whatever" from inside non-Page contexts such as Global.asax (HttpApplication), HttpModule, HttpHandler, etc. but can only find the Resolution methods specific to Controls (and Page). I think the app should have enough knowledge to be able to map this outside the Page context. No? Or at least it makes sense to me it should be resolvable in other circumstances, wherever the app root is known. Update: The reason being I'm sticking ~ paths in the web.configuration files. Update 2: I'm trying to resolve them to the website root such as Control.Resolve(..) URL does, not to a file system path.

  There is a vertex v, such that from the subtree rooted at v, there are at least two backedges to proper ancestors of v. The problem is finding whether such backedges exist or not ( finding v is not important at all). I run DFS algorithm, I can find backedges and save them in an array. I know which backedges in this array belong to a common tree. but I have problem on matching this condition in O(E) time. can anyone help me with that?

• What's the official Microsoft way to track counts of dynamic controls to be reconstructed upon Postback?

  When creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage? By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher. Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.

  I have a DOS batch file that show some results on the cmd console. I want users to press Enter to run program or press any other key on the keyboard to exit. I don't want to use options/choices because in that case user will have to enter at least something which I need to check and set the action. • How do you use vim's quickfix feature?

  I'm a pretty new Vim user and I've found that its learning curve is quite steep (at least for me). I just installed this vim script for JavaScriptLint error checking, which shows errors in vim's quickfix window once I save a buffer. However, I don't know what to do next.. How do I 'scroll' through all the errors? How do I close the quickfix 'window'? How do I get it to check for errors after I've made changes to my code? I've looked at the vim quickfix docs but the amount of commands are overwhelming and I can't seem to find what I want. Any help would be appreciated. A side question: is there any way to have javascriptlint check for js errors for code residing in a .html file? Thanks!

  I am searching for an OCR web service (eventually open source, preferably free) that simply receives an image and returns the text of the image in writing. I've looked at tesseract, OCRopus and GOCR but the only open server I could find is WeOCR. Unfortunately the detection rates (at least during my tests) are sub-par and the speed is not much better. Does anyone have any experience with OCR web services? I guess the license of tesseract allows the operation of such a service, are there any out there?
