  • Why is new showat attribute required when using code generation?

    When I generate code using T4 templates in Visual Studio 2010, I get the following error for each of my asp controls when I try to compile: Control "ddState" is missing required attribute "showat". I have never gotten this error in previous versions of .NET. Further, I don't get this error when I manually construct my pages either by dragging/dropping, nor do I get it when I type out the control text myself. When I generate code, I have to manually add showat="client" to my tag for the compiler to be happy. It was my understanding that I never had to explicitly specify this tag. The following: <asp:dropdownlist id="ddState" runat="server" showat="client" /> solves the problem. Why do I have to add this to generated code but not other times? (It's a VS-2010 webforms project, using VB, in case that makes a difference.)

    I have been asked to summarise the pros and cons in connection with the choices between Microsoft Office Vs OpenOffice. I have a broad idea of what needs to be said. However I would like to open a discussion here and have a single place to go to when the time comes to give the summary to management. There are obvious points of contention: For me the lack of compliance with Group Policy is a major concern [Default save location/visibility of C:/Visibility of files and folders on the HDD] However I am sure that functionality and compatibility will be the prime mover. We are looking at making major savings by reducing our commitment to Microsoft licensing. So what are your experiences? What happens when there are no direct equivalents? [Word has a close match in OpenOffice, but a database solution match is not as close, neither is an Outlook [connecting to Exchange Server and downloading all calendars, shared calendars, scheduled events, for Exchange will still exist after the move to OpenSource solutions] In summary then: What do you see as: The benefits of this plan?   • switching between one and two displays in visual studio

    Most of the time I work Visual Studio with two monitors. I setup my Visual Studio to sit nicely across both monitors with code on the one side and property windows etc. on the other. However, occasionally I need to remove into my work station from home where I only have one monitor. What ends up happening is I have to re-setup my entire workspace to be used on one monitor, and when I get back to my work station I have to undo this again to get to my optimal 2 monitor environment. Is there a way to save some set layouts in Visual Studio so I could quickly switch back and forward? Example: One Monitor Layout versus Two Monito Layout?

    Hello, I was searching for a long time a Linux Live USB that I can boot my macbook pro from. Is there such distro so I can install it on Snow Leopard or Windows 7? UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) Finally: I'd like to add support into xorriso for creating the nasty HFS hybrid images that are needed for booting Macs. The code that does this in cdrkit is probably some of the worst that I've ever worked with, and I'd like to get away from it.   • If email not received then do X (outlook 2013 on Exchange 2010)

    I receive notification emails daily and would like to automate an easier way to manage all of those notifications. For example: Notification 1 from [email protected] is received daily between 10pm-1am Notification 2 from [email protected] is received daily between 12am-3am Notification 3 from [email protected] is received daily between 1am-4am I am looking for a way to page myself at [email protected] on my cellphone if any of these messages are not received within the defined time frame of when the email should have arrived. I would like to basically email a page like: ATTENTION Notification 2 not received within the allowed range. This way I would be notified instead of having to check the email manually and see that I only received 2 of the three alerts. Is there a way to do this in Outlook? Our exchange server is a hosted exchange server on GoDaddy if that info is needed.

    Tried to create a macro in Excel to insert a row: Sub InsertRow() ' ' InsertRow Macro ' ' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+I ' Selection.EntireRow.Insert End Sub However, this does not insert a new row without first manually selecting a row. Every solution I've found requires that a row be highlighted before inserting a new row.     Consider the feature in Visual Studio 2010 for snippets in the HTML Source view of a web page. type a control name in plaintext with no markup or brackets! ... e.g. hyperlink. Then hit Tab Your web control has been auto-completed for you. It's up to you to fill in the other details that you need. This works for form as well: <form action="default.aspx" method="post"> </form> This looks like a real time saver. This is supported in WebForms and ASP.NET MVC projects. What other snippets are available in Visual Studio 2010 in the Source view of a page?

  • Creating MS Word 2010 Relative Links?

    Okay here is what I've tried so far for creating relative links in my MS Word Documents. In my document from the ribbon I select the File tab. I then select Info from the side bar. Click the properties drop down from the right hand column. (a bit difficult to find initially, since it looks like text not a drop down, but it's there). Click Advanced Properties The <document-name>.docx Properties Dialog Appears I enter .\ to specify that I want a relative path for the links in my document. I click OK. I go back into my document select some text and attempt to make a link out of it clicking the Insert tab of the ribbon, and then clicking Hyperlink. I then select a document from the current folder, and strip the full path from it, leaving just the name of the .docx file to which I wish to link. Then I click OK. The link appears, I try to click it using Ctrl+Click. I am informed that the address of the site is not valid. Check the address and try again. What could I possibly be doing wrong here? I just want a relative link. It's so easy in to do this in HTML.

    Visual Studio ate my toolbar, I opened a solution for a project I've been working on for a few months, and the toolbar has 135 buttons on it, and while it was loading, the whole toolbar flickered like it was trying to give me a seizure or something, and then it dissappeared. Now when I click Debug, it won't let me do it because all the resources are missing!? I'm using: Visual Studio 2010 C# Express Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have searched Google and found nothing related. I'm hoping that Visual Studio can also somehow make bowel movements so I can find those missing resources and put everything back together again, but I don't think that's a likely scenario... Has anybody ever experienced this before, and if so, are there any updates/fixes for this?

  • Copy/Paste including Hidden Columns when Filtering Rows in Excel 2010

    I suspect the solution will be related to this question?? I have a spreadsheet that comes to me pre-formatted with hidden columns sprinkled in multiple places (for viewing brevity's sake). I need to turn on filtering, apply a filter to one of the columns, and then paste the resulting rows to a new sheet - including the hidden columns (lather, rinse, repeat). I'd prefer to not undo/re-do the hidden columns unless I have to. Is it possible to paste the hidden columns without adding the extra steps?

  • How do include paths work in Visual Studio?

    Visual Studio drives me crazy and I am suspecting I am doing something wrong. This is what I do: I installed Visual Studio (Pro '08) a long time ago, I installed the Windows SDK (Win 7 x64), someone emails me a project, it fails to build. Invariably, it can not find windows.h. While it is easy enough to include C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\Include in the project settings of every single project, I feel that this may not be the proper way to do it. Is there a way to somehow make Visual Studio globally aware of these files? I also tried to include the above directory in the path variable but that didn't change anything. Also, it will randomly find windows.h but not winresrc.h in the same directory.

  • Can TFS 2010 be installed onto a single server and in a Workgroup (not AD)

    Hi folks, currently, we're using TFS2010 at our office and we're about to move. Part of that move is a split of teams. Our team will get their own servers. So we need to build our own TFS server and add our current projects to that. Right now, our TFS server exists on TWO servers - one for TFS and one for our Continuous Integration .. i think that's a build controller or something. That really suxs for us - having TWO servers instead of one for all our source control. We love CI and how it works (after the massive massive pain it was to get our VS2010 solution to CI + web Deploy) ... but it does work. So - can we do this with ONE server? Also, we don't want to have an Active Directory. Will this also work?

  • MS Project 2010 Filter and Highlights

    I'd like to know if there is a way to highlight dates that differs from one another. I have two columns "Baseline Finish Date" and "Re-forecast Finish Date" and I would like to highlight the dates that for each task, is different in those columns. Meaning the tasks that suffered a re-forecast due to other circumstances, and does not equal to the original dates. I also would like a filter that does the same thing as above, showing only this different date tasks.

  • Exchange 2010: Import a PST when Local Move Request fails

    So the trail of tears continues with my SBS 2003 to 2011 migration: all the mailboxes have moved mailbox store from OLDSERVER to NEWSERVER, with the Local Move Requests completing successfully, except for one. I've logged into their machine and have exported their mailbox as a PST. I'm about to import it, but it seems to me that because the mailbox is still on OLDSERVER, even with a new Outlook profile pointing to NEWSERVER in Outlook, it'll push the mail into the current mailbox store on the old server. Please tell me I don't have to blow away her existing mailbox, logon, etc. on the old SBSERVER: is there a way to change the state from "Legacy" to "User Mailbox" without actually moving the mailbox store? Create a new mailbox for her user in NEWSERVER?

    A few months ago, while writing a paper, I copied some paragraphs created in another computer into a different computer. I guess the formatting was different. Please see the following image: I noticed that a strange formatting has also been imported. I thought it would go away when I select all and choose a format. But the problem did not go away. Now, when I am trying to finish the paper, the weird formatting still remaining. Does anyone have any solution? Also, how to make sure that when we copy something from a file with different Styles, we retain the destination style definitions. EDIT I would prefer a solution where I do not have to re-do the formatting manually.

  • A few unpleasant facts about Visual Studio 2012.

    I have been playing with Visual Studio 2012 for the last couple of days. New IDE is pretty good, but, unfortunately, I found a few unpleasant facts. First of all, new release is coming without Visual Studio setup projects. I am disappointed, because I am using it for my pet project – Easy Shutdown. The tool is a small widget-like application which allows you to reboot, log out or shut down you PC. I have not done any decision yet, but I would probably migrate to WiX. The second surprise is Microsoft will not add Visual Studio macros to the next release. Since I am lazy guy, I like small hacks using macros. For example I have macros to refresh all projects or attach to IIS.  The only way how to solve the problem is to convert your macros to Visual Studio plugin. I have not tried it yet, but I will definitely do in the nearest future. The third fact, I do not like, is Visual Studio default themes. May be somebody like it, but they are hard to adopt after Visual Studio 2010. Fortunately there is a solution. Matthew Johnson released Visual Studio 2012 Color Theme Editor. It comes with a few predefined themes. I really like the Blue one.
