  • Radio Button selection Changes Toast on Android

    - by Bub
    I was writing a simple test application. There are two radio buttons within the app. There id's are "radio_red" and "radio_blue". I wanted to create an onClickListener event that read the text associated to the button and then returned a basic "Right" or "Wrong" toast. Here is a sample of the code: private OnClickListener radio_listener = new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v){ RadioButton rb = (RadioButton) v; String ans = rb.getText().toString(); String an1 = ""; if (ans.trim() == "Yes") { ans = "That's Right."; } else if (ans.trim() == "No") { ans = "thats wrong."; } else { ans = "none."; } Toast.makeText(v.getContext(), ans , Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } So far no joy. Here is my code snippet. I've checked my "main.xml" and the text associated to the buttons are referneced correctly. I added trim to make sure of that. However, all that is ever returned in the toast is "none." What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • fire an intent from the onCreate method in android

    - by Sephy
    Maybe my question might seem a bit weird, but I have an activity in which, in one case , I have to move to another activity before it finishes loading the screen. My condition is in the onCreate method, which means when I encounter it, i get a "startActivity called from outside an activity context" error and the app just crashes... But then, is there an easy way like a flag for the intent to make it work without having the activity context resolved? thanks for any answer

  • Android: How do you delete a folder starts with period

    - by jclova
    I am trying to delete a folder in sdcard. I can delete normal directories, but a directory that starts with period cannot be deleted. (ex. ".helloDir") if (dir.isDirectory()) { String[] children = dir.list(); for (int i = 0; i < children.length; i++) { new File(dir, children[i]).delete(); } } children is null if dir starts with period (ex. ".helloDir").

  • Android lifecycle of thread-based game

    - by ehehhh
    I ran into a bit of trouble while trying to get my game to work correctly after being put to the background by the user or a phone call for example. My app has a SurfaceView class called GameView, which has the onDraw() method to do all the necessary drawing for my game and two threads - one for calling the onDraw() and one for doing the necessary calculations for the game's logic. I succesfully implemented onPause() and onResume(). (I paused both threads when back button was pressed and resumed them after user cancelled in the AlertDialog.) Now I would like to have the game paused the same way when onStop() gets called. I put both threads on pause and saved my characters location in the savedInstanceState, but when I start my app again, no method gets called (I checked with Logcat). I believe onRestart() should be called first, then onStart() and then onResume(), but none of that happens. What am I doing wrong? (Didn't include any code, because it seems to be a problem of me not understanding the lifecycle, not a problem in code. If it seems necessary, I'll post the parts you request.)

  • Getting an updated location in Android

    - by jul
    Hi, I'm using the code shown below to get an updated value for location every time a button is clicked. When my activity is resumed I get an update every second, so that when I call getLastKnownLocation I expect to have a location that have been updated in the last second. Is that the correct way to do that? I would expect the onLocationChanged event to be triggered every time I execute a 'geo fix' command (or max after 1s since I request update every 1s), but it's only triggered the first time. Why? Any help/suggestion welcome! Thanks package org.digitalfarm.atable; ... public class Atable extends Activity { private Button mSearchButton; private TextView mytext; private LocationManager locationManager; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); mSearchButton = (Button)this.findViewById(R.id.button); mytext = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.dude); locationManager = (LocationManager)getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); final Criteria criteria = new Criteria(); criteria.setAccuracy(Criteria.ACCURACY_FINE); mSearchButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { String provider = locationManager.getBestProvider(criteria, true); Location location = locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(provider); } }); } //Start a location listener LocationListener onLocationChange=new LocationListener() { public void onLocationChanged(Location loc) { //sets and displays the lat/long when a location is provided String latlong = "Lat: " + loc.getLatitude() + " Long: " + loc.getLongitude(); mytext.setText(latlong); } public void onProviderDisabled(String provider) { // required for interface, not used } public void onProviderEnabled(String provider) { // required for interface, not used } public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status, Bundle extras) { // required for interface, not used } }; //pauses listener while app is inactive @Override public void onPause() { super.onPause(); locationManager.removeUpdates(onLocationChange); } //reactivates listener when app is resumed @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER,1000,100.0f,onLocationChange); } }

  • Android repeating alarm not working

    - by erdomester
    This works fine: Intent intent = new Intent(HelloAndroid2.this, AlarmReceiver.class); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(HelloAndroid2.this, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT); AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE); alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, System.currentTimeMillis() + (12 * 1000), pendingIntent); This doesn't work. I hear the alarm only time. alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, System.currentTimeMillis() + (12 * 1000), 3 * 1000, pendingIntent); I have also tried this, no luck: Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis()); calendar.add(Calendar.SECOND, 5); alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), 7000, pendingIntent); What is the problem?

  • Android SDK: Create image on touch

    - by dagonal
    Hello, I'm a bit stumped here, I'm trying to make it so an image (already in the drawable folder) gets created everytime you touch the screen and removed when the finger is lifted. I have the touch part coded already, overriding the onTouch method with a couple switch cases that handle each type of action (down, up, move, etc). But I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the image appear and then disappear with the coordinates (matrix?) of where the finger is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can FLV AAC stream be played in Android

    - by HariKJ
    Hi, I'm trying to build a radio player and the client is providing a stream which is a FLV container with the audio being AAC When I read the headers it shows up as audio/aacp. I have tried all possible ways such as using the 1) Streaming through mediaplayer (Does not work) 2) Use the NPR mode of using a proxy stream (I get a broken pipe exception) 3) Play it in chunks ( Plays but I need the SDCard and the playback is not very great) 4) Use the GPL'd FAAD2 Library but I would have to pay the royalty fee Can some one help me out on figuring this issue out. The last option that I have is to have my client change the stream to mp3 container (which I know that it works) Regards, Hari

  • Android: Is decreasing size of .png files have some effect to resulted Bitmap in memory

    - by nahab
    I'm writing game with a large amount of .png pictures. All worked fine. Than I added new activity with WebView and got memory shortage. After that I made some experiment - replace game .png images with ones that just fully filled with some color. As result memory shortage had gone. But I suppose that Bitmap internally hold each pixel separately so such changes should have no effect. Maybe this because of initial images have alpha channel and my test images have not it? But actually question is: Will decreasing .png images files sizes make some effect on decreasing usage of VM application heap or not?

  • Android: Issue with acceptable file types via bluetooth

    - by poeschlorn
    Hi guys, i've got a problem with pushing files to my nexus one: It seems to me that there is only a small selection of file types that are accepted by my phone (such like jpg, gif and so on). I recently tried to push other files to my phone (in my case gpx) and my phone has rejected it automatically... is there a way to bypass or extent this filter? Is there also a way to catch those files by a service? greets, poeschlorn

  • Android - Issue with View when set above another View while scrolling

    - by KevinM
    I've created a ScrollView with a RelativeLayout inside of it. I have a TextView aligned at the bottom of the RelativeLayout using layout_alignParentBottom="true" and a ImageView above the TextView using "layout_above". The layout works perfect when I am on a device where the display is large enough to not have to scroll up and down. When I test it on devices where you need to scroll to see the ImageView and TextView the ImageView doesn't line up above the TextView. Actually I haven't a clue where it goes because I can't see it anywhere. It might be behind the TextView. This also happens when I'm editing an EditText with the Soft Keyboard up, which causes the RelativeLayout to scroll. Anyone knows what's going on here?

  • Android - Where to store generated bitmaps?

    - by Josh
    I've got an app which dynamically generates anywhere from 6 to 100 small bitmaps for the user to move around the screen in a given session. I currently generate them in onCreate and store them to the sd card, so that after an orientation change I can grab them out of external storage and display them again. However, this takes time (the loading) and I'd like to keep the bitmap references around between lifecyle changes for quicker access. My question is, is there a better place to store my generated bitmaps? I was thinking about creating a static storage library in my base activity, something that would only need to be reloaded when the app is completely removed from memory (shutdown, other apps need resources, 30 minute restart, etc). Ideally, I'd like the user to be able to back out to the title screen, click a "Resume" button, and in onCreate I just have access to those resident bitmap references instead of having to load them from storage again. For this reason I don't think Activity.onRetainNonConfigurationInstance is what I need. Alternatively, is there a better way to handle multiple generated bitmaps than what I'm doing or the plan I described?
