  • Network access when the Android phone is asleep

    I'm using a combination of alarm (set with AlarmManager) and background service to periodically synchronize data in my application. The only problem I have is that when sleep policy terminates Wi-Fi connection the synchronization no longer works. Is there a way to "wake up" the Wi-Fi connection that has been put to sleep? GMail somehow manages to do that because it notifies me about new e-mail even if the phone entered sleep mode.

  • Why aren't min-width and max-width working as I expect?

    I'm trying to adjust a CSS page layout using min-width and max-width. To simplify the problem, I made this test page. What does min-width mean if the element will happily get narrower than that if the browser window keeps shrinking? Is there any way to achieve what I want: have these elements sit side-by-side, happily shrinking until they reach 200px each, and only then adjust the layout so that the second one drops down? And of course... What am I doing wrong?

  • Can I ensure all tests contain an assertion in test/unit?

    With test/unit, and minitest, is it possible to fail any test that doesn't contain an assertion, or would monkey-patching be required (for example, checking if the assertion count increased after each test was executed)? Background: I shouldn't write unit tests without assertions - at a minimum, I should use assert_nothing_raised if I'm smoke testing to indicate that I'm smoke testing. Usually I write tests that fail first, but I'm writing some regression tests. Alternatively, I could supply an incorrect expected value to see if the test is comparing the expected and actual value.

    After the introduction of Java Memory Model, the Swing guidelines were changed to state that any Swing components need to be instantiated on the EDT in order to avoid non-published instance state. What I could not find anywhere is whether the classloading is also mandated to be on the EDT or can we pre-load key Swing classes in a background thread? Is there any official statement from Sun/Oracle on this? Are there any classes that are known to hold non-threadsafe static state, hence need to be loaded on EDT?

    I have been trying to set a UIImageView background color (see below) in awakeFromNib [imageView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:0 green:0 blue:0 alpha:1.0]]; When it did not work, I realised that its probably because the view has not loaded yet and I should move the color change to viewDidLoad.     I am using word 2007 and am inserting code into the document. I have a style with a fixed-width font and light grey background and all, and I use Notepad++ for syntax highlighting.     I'm trying to play background music along with sound effects using Qt. However, I can't get more than one sound to play at once. For example: QSound::play("Music.wav"); QSound::play("Effect.wav"); When this code is run (on Windows), you can hear Music.wav just start to play, but then it stops and Effect.wav plays. Is there any way to get the two sounds to play at once?

  • UIImageView dimensions not what I set in IB

    I set a UIImageView to 70x70 pixels. In the actual view they look 70px high and 30 wide. This is when there is no source UIImage set and with a background color so I can see it's layout. However, when I do set a UIImage to it the layout does not change, remains portrait. Is there something I am overlooking that affects the layout dimensions of a UIImage or UIImageView? Thanks.

  • Interface Builder Does Not Recognize Toolbar Buttons

    I created 4 UIButton's that are Custom and Plain in IB. I added a background image to them and then placed them onto my UIToolbar. I created IBActions and hooked up all of the buttons I did not create @property for the buttons, but 3/4 of them appear on my toolbar and they work. Why isnt my 4th button appearing? If I need to declare an @property for them, will it be a UIToolbarButtonItem or a UIButton?
