• Wrong EFI System Partition GUID?

  On a new GPT initialized disk (second PC disk) I created a FAT32 partition using gparted. I want to use it as an EFI System Partition so I flagged it as boot. After that I checked the UUID using the gparted “partition information” option and it reported: 09B1-97A5. As far as I understand it should be C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B. I also checked my running operative system disk (Ubuntu 14) and found that Gparted reports EB78-9AD2 for my actual boot partition UUID. What exactly is gparted reporting as UUID on my EFI system partition and why it doesn’t match with the expected C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B ID?

  Alright here is the problem: the creators of a quite popular flash-based game have asked me to port their game to Android. They are not interested in any other platforms so we don't need to be worrying about iOS or PC. They want the best performance on just Android (I guess that's the point of porting a flash-based game. They could have just went with it) They found Unity 'slow'. How would the performance (on android) of other engines compare? Are they expecting too much i.e. finding Unity slow? I am in favor of Unity since development is a little easier with more things being visual (I am not experienced as you might have guessed). • Garbled screen after sleep/suspend with nVidia 8800M GTS Ubuntu 11.10

  Just did a clean install of 11.10, have been using it (and enjoying it!) for about a day now. But it seems that every time I resume from a sleep or blank screen after idling for a while, my desktop, as well as any programs on the screen get "garbled" I had a few windows open and all displayed the same gui glitching except for Chromium (I am guessing because it was minimized to the Unity Launcher, and not currently on the screen when I woke the PC up.) Anyone know what might be causing this, and how I might be able to fix it? I am using a Gateway P-6860FX with a C2D 1.8GHz, and nVidia 8800M GTS 512mb.   I need help in setting up Zend framework on my PC. I am using XAMPP on Windows 7. I read tutorials and did what they suggested but don't know why it is not running. I need stepwise help. I have downloaded Zend version 1.11.13 and extracted the contents in a C drive folder. I have also set up environment variables and also made proper changes in php.ini file. But still not working. May be I am missing something or doing something incorrectly. So could you please give me step by step details of everything from download to setting environment variables and etc? • Unable to Install ubuntu onto a blank hard drive

  I just built a pc and I am trying to install Ubuntu 14 onto it. I did the process in which you format the flash drive to be able to have Ubuntu 14 and install directly in BIOS. BIOS is set up to boot from the flash drive. Every time I try to do the install process, it will randomly reboot itself onto the motherboard BIOS menu. This loop constantly occurs and the only way I can use Ubuntu is to put the option of trying but not installing. HELP!

  After I boot the Live-CD I can't select try Lubuntu or Install Lubuntu and I end up hanging on that screen. My PC specs are: Compaq Presario s4214bd 2.4ghz Intel Celeron. Windows XP/Ubuntu 10.04 dual boot. 768mb Ram. Nvidia 6200 Graphics card (I've switched between the onboard and PCI(this one) still no luck). I really want to use Lubuntu and I've been trying everything for the past 2-3 hours. Anything will help.

  I'm in a HP 430 PC-Notebook using Oneiric. And sometimes my touchpad just stop working :(... I haven't installed anything, just safe playing with terminal following linuxcommand.org BTW my touchpad has a "hole" that in Windows, it works like this: two touch, block touchpad, two touch, unblock. And as far as I now, Ubuntu hasn't recognize this function so I think that the "hole" is not the problem... Also, I'm pretty sure that I haven't touch a little that... PD: Spanish speaker, sorry if "hole" is not the appropriate term haha.. Thanks!

  I have been trying to install ubuntu along windows but failed. the issue is that I get a graphical glitch with the colours of the ubuntu loading screen while installing from usb and no progress is made, the pc freezes. I've tryied the nomodeset solution, but when I have to reboot I get the same problem. I've tried ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.04 etc...both generic and for amd: nothing worked... any idea how this could be resolved or which distribution/iso I should try for my system? thank you.   I've installed ubuntu 12.04, but after rebooting I get the message: GRUB loading: Welcome to GRUB! error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> I have the following partitons setup: /dev/sda6: /boot ext2 /dev/sda9: / ext4 /dev/sda8: swap /dev/sda7: /home ext4 I guess that some of the prefixes for GRUB are wrong due to the /boot partition?   my problem is the that for a Hackintosh (unofficial PC running OS X) I needed to set AHCI, Power Mode S3 and HPET 64bit. Now, I want to install Ubuntu (when 12.04 comes out) and was wondering if these settings will be right to use for Ubuntu. I read that AHCI is how the hard disks are accessed, Power Mode S3 is how suspend works with the RAM but couldn't figure out if using HPET 64bit makes any difference than HPET 32bit. What I would like is an explanation of what these BIOS settings do and what is best for Ubuntu. Thank you very much

  Right now my video card isn't responding after the Ubuntu Logo is shown, (I see a black screen and that's it) I have installed ubuntu 12.04 AMD64 and if I remove the video card and use the VGA from the MOBO then I can use it with no problems, other data: 4 GB of ram 1333 500 GB WD AMD APU A6 3500 2,1 GHZ I forgot a couple of details, everything was working great until last night, when the light went off (I don't know if I'm explaining myself I'm from Argentina and english isn't my first language there was a power cut I meant) and then when it got back I used my pc until I went to bed (after upgrading) and this morning, when I woke up I had this problem for breakfast, I've been reading a little and I had a similar problem before and fixed it, but it was a system problem, a missing package or something, I don't remember, but here the only issue is that the video card doesn't give me image after the ubuntu logo.

  I updated to Ubuntu 12.04 by doing a clean install from a CD. I installed Wine, Q4wine, WineTricks, PlayOnLinux all from the Software Center. After installing Kindle For PC(I ran it in 11.10 as well) Wine doesn't open it. Then I tried to install a game (Eastside Hockey Manager 2007) that I have had Installed on all my previous versions of Ubuntu, again Wine returned an error saying that the installer GUI would not load. So far I'm lost as to why this is happening. Does anyone have an idea?

  i have a hp dv6 system. on which i was having the windows 8 installed. as i was interested in downloading the ubuntu 12.10 along with windows 8(not inside) .i have made separate partition in ubuntu 12.10 but some how it backfires and now i am not able to boot windows 8 and ubuntu. with windows 8 there is no drive to access the drive partition that has OS. with ubuntu i am getting blank screen. i am thinking that i have problem in system partition but i am not able to solve it.   Due to some mishaps, I am unable to boot into Kubuntu at all. However, my data is still on the hard drive. I managed to get one of the other two computers to which I have access to read the disk by booting into a liveCD session of kubuntu. The only storage medium to which I have access is a 30 GB data stick. Here's where the trouble starts: In music alone, I have to back up about 60 GB. Obviously this is going to have to be split into chunks and moved over to the second spare PC until I can reinstall Kubuntu on my laptop. All of the data that needs backed up is behind a permissions wall, so while I can view it, I can't interact with it directly. I know copying and moving through the terminal can get around this with sudo cp or sudo mv, but is there a way to first compress multiple folders in a single archive, then move it? (While we're on the subject, what compression method would be best for large volumes of music in MP3, WAV, and OGG format?)

  I understand that the concept of how a game runs i.e while (game_loop = true) { //handle events // input/output/sound etc } But it has come to my attention while programming in another HLL is do some games use threads for certain operations? For example take any Pokemon game ; during interaction a textbox appears to display information. Now I've been trying to simulate that sort of textbox and the only way I could have got it to be exactly the same is by using a loop and yes once a loop is started there is no way to handle window events unless they are handled again inside the loop itself. I couldn't have used this loop inside a different thread other than the main one (due to a DirectX limitation) so the only option was to use it inside the main program thread. I was wondering if some games work like this ; do they only use the main program thread and handle events again if they're inside a loop? Edit: I forgot to mention this is about console games not PC games! Thanks Nubcake
