  I have HP server ML370 g5 with 8 SAS, c drive 1 72 gb raid 0, d drive 2 72 gb raid 0, f drive 5 146 gb raid 5. 2 of 5 sas drive has got bad sectors and raid 5 is showing status failed. now i want to remove all this 5 SAS and put 1 by 1 in any of the bay to make its image for data recovery purpose without writing anything to the drive. how should i proceed. i also want to keep drive c and d intact. also is it possible if i put all this 5 drives in the bay with the same sequense will it recognise the raid 5 array ( i read some where its smart controller..just curious) many thanks in advance.

• How can I recover a huge folder that's been converted to a zero kb file on an NTFS partition?

  I have a 1TB drive with two 500GB partitions. One of them is being used as a Mac OS X Time Machine back up drive and the other one was NTFS and being used for storage. I had my entire 'iTunes Music' folder stored on it. Recently, there were some errors on the NTFS drive that caused chkdsk to run when in Windows, and it removed a lot of corrupt files. In this process, it converted my 'iTunes Music' folder into one zero KB file. How can I recover this? The partitions are intact and the other data on the disk is still accessible. It's just the 'iTunes Music' folder that's gone.

When I try to mount it, the password is fine but I get an error: hdiutil attach failed no mountable file systems I read a post that says you can try to recover the volume, but I have to open it first to try to recover it. I just need to open it without TrueCrypt trying to mount it too, so I can use that partition in a data recovery program. Also it's just an image file volume. I am using the Mac version, and I have setup an alias for the truecrypt shell command, but I'm not sure how to enter the syntax! Please help. thank you! T

• How to determine source of file corruption for downloaded images?

  I've been downloading Visual Studio 2010 off of the Dreamspark.com website using Akamai Downloader. The .img file is 2.2 GB in size. I've downloaded it twice so far, and when I try to mount it using Gizmo, it complains that "the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable". The drive does mount, but it is unreadable. Is there a way to determine where the source of the data corruption is coming from? Is it my computer as it's receiving it? The hosting server(s)? My ISP? My router? My ethernet cable? It's a hefty download to do again and again from home, only to find out once it's fully downloaded that it's unreadable. I think I can almost rule out my PC, router, and ethernet cable, as I've been able to download various other files without corruption. Note: There is no checksum to verify against

• Scratched DVD keeps freezin when copying files, even with programs.

  Hi, I have a dvd with some family photos that is scratched, the problem is that when i try to copy stuff it reaches certain points and freezes, i'm assuming its the scratches / corrupt data. I've been trying several programs that are supposed to copy corrupt files from damaged media regardless, but they keep freezing when they reach the same points, so no different when with windows. Is there a way to fix the DVD? Or a really really good program that can do that without freezing / allowing windows to freeze? Please help, I don't have any copies of the photos and they are irreplaceable.

  Hi guys, I am an ASP.NET developer, who has minimal knowledge in Server administration. I have a database hosted at Windows Server 2008. Today morning onwards it periodically stops working. The message given is something to the effect "The program is being shut down to prevent Data Execution Prevention error" Some other programs are also showing the behavior. I would like to know, what causes this all of a sudden? The server is UN-protected(IE: no anti-virus installed at all), could this be a possible anti-virus/ malware attack? • SSIS DSN Not Showing as ODBC Data Source

  I have been following the directions here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/05ccd778-b78c-4a83-a10a-c4ae412cc6e4 And ran into a problem where my System DSN is not showing up as a ODBC provider. I found this which seemed promising: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000277 I was not able to delete the key but followed but I did what was suggested: "If unable to delete the key, double-click the key and erase the Data value entered. Once done, the value should read ' (value not set) '" However, after following the instructions my System DSN still does not appear as an option. The USER DSN however does show...has shown but does not work as I get a permissions error. Any ideas?

  Hi all, I have a question about using a web site host in my computer, say Computer A, using any web server hosting application e.g : apache. I connect to my website in my very same computer A, and request to download a file of size 1Mb, in otherwords, I am connecting to my own computer and want to download a file in my computer. In addition, my internet access is bound by a proxy server in a way of gateway. The questions are - does the file transfer really exist? Or is it a local file copying between 2 location?   My website has crashed a few days ago. The hosting company says some innodb database crashed. They sent a MySql data folder. I tried to restore the database, but phpmyadmin is only showing MyISAM tables. I checked the database with navicat. When I click innodb table, I got this error table 'xyz.wp_posts' doesn't exist. is there anyway to fix this on windows?   Hi, I have created a VM for Virtual PC in windows 7. I am writing a batch file to backup data in the VM to a host USB drive. I have shared the host drives. I have a USB drive that I want to backup to. But how do refer to the USB drive in the batch file. I cannot seem to map a drive to it, It is called "H on Malcolm-Desktop" in windows explorer. • XFS and loss of data when power goes down

  Each time electricity goes down, my desktop (without UPS) loses some temporary information. Opera can lose settings, history, cache, or mail accounts (Thanks heavens I was wise to use IMAP). Partially or all together. a whole file (complete and save) in Geany appeared empty (and I didn't commit it to Git) rhythmbox lost all podcasts subscription data I'm afraid there are other losses I just didn't see. What's the reason? A memory files cache, a mem-disk? Or non-atomic file writes in xfs? I have Ubuntu 9.10 and XFS on both / and /home partitions. Is ext4 safer in such circumstances? I've seen ext3 is faster. Is it as safe as *4? Given that the apartment I rent is connected to a common bus and 1 safety switch for several apartments, and the neighbors - alone or together - overload it at least once every week, the lights go down often enough for this to be an issue.

• IIS FTP service - download timeouts and restarts getting the data twice

  We have an IIS FTP site on a Windows Server 2003 x64 machine. Application Layer Gateway service is disabled (so http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931130 does not apply). Windows Firewall service is disabled as well. Connection timeout for the FTP site (there is only one) is set to 1,200 seconds = 20 minutes. An external client can connect to the site, list directory contents and download small files. When a client attempts to download a large file (eg, if the download continues for 3 minutes, which is still under 20 minutes, but relatively long), the server sends all data, then the connection times out, the client issues REST / RETR commands attempting to restart the download since after the last byte (which I believe should succeed and receive exactly 0 bytes), and the server behaves as if the client tried to restart after byte 0, that is, it sends the entire file all over. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  I say software raid because that is a pretty tentative guess at what I actually want. I have two drives, both with stuff already on them which I want to combine. If they weren't full of stuff (data, not windows installation) I would use software raid to combine them into one big drive or make them into one partition. I could probably do this with some complicated reference system but really I just want to be able to keep saving things to X: without running out of space until both drives are full.   I need to automatically mirror a large amount (terabytes) of files in two unix machines over a slow link (1 Mbps). This needs to be done frequently, but the data doesn't change too much (delta transmission doesn't saturate the link). The usual solution would be rsync, but there's an additional requirement: it's undesirable, from a security standpoint, that either the source or destination machines have (keyless) ssh keys to each other, or any kind of filesystem access. All communication between the two machines should thus be initialized (and mediated) through a third machine. I've asked a separate question about rsync in particular here. Are there other obvious solutions I'm missing?

• Automatically keeping two excel data tables in-sync (w/out VBA)

  I'm putting together a workbook for tracking a stock portfolio. The primary sheet contains a table with the list of the transactions. From this I would like to create an overview table on another sheet with only one row per unique stock symbol that includes things like cost basis, returns, etc. The problem is that nothing I've tried updates the overview table correctly when rows are added to the transaction table. And even then the range of the table isn't extended down to include new rows as they become valid.   How do you calculate the data flown between a computer and the gateway computer. I have a Linux router/gateway running IP Tables which routes internet traffic in a LAN. I have individual users with IP/MAC Address mapped who access Interet through the gateway computer. I would like to find out the traffic utilized by individual users. Is it possible for us to find out what kind of traffic was HTTP, SMTP, FTP etc. Is it also possible to pool the information on hourly basis, and get specific info so that I can store information in a database?   Hi, I have some really sensitive data that I am trying to compress and back up so I can reformat. It's absolutely imperative that nothing happens to these files. I'm a developer so I have very little room for error... plus I'd really hate it if any of my .mp3's got corrupted! File Formats Include... .mp3 .php .js .ai - .psd - .flv (and many more) Is the mac OSX file compression safe enough? Or should I look elsewhere? • new cacti installation on ubuntu 12.04 64bit not graphing any data

  Hey guys i just installed cacti on a ubuntu 12.04 server and am having issues with any data showing up on my graphs. If i snmpwalk the certain OID it works. I have tailing on the cacti.log file and i see it polling the values correctly but nothing ever graphs. Is there anything i can check with regards to snmp or something in cacti that may be causing this to not work? I have already checked in my php.ini and have set the timezone, someone was mentioning that may cause issues.

  The documentation for hiera on docs.puppetlabs.com seems to give me the impression that I can use puppet syntax to describe my data. Or posssibly will be able to in the future. See: Coming soon. Is this functionality present in a release version of puppet, and just not documented, or is this still being developed? If this functionality is present, does anyone have examples of how to actually use this? The presence of the puppet_backend.rb file on my system gives which was part of the puppetmaster package makes me thing that this functionality is present, but just not documented. So I am trying to figure out how to actually use this.

• Error setting up Data Protection Manager 2010 Agents / Network "Unauthenticated" in network settings

  I'm not sure if the two are connected but i suspect they are. Basically I'm tring to setup Data Protection Manager 2010 on a fresh install of Server 2008 R2 in a SBS 2003 domain. Everything went fine until trying to install agents across the network. Upon clicking add, i get the following error message: Unable to connect to the Active Directory Domain Services Database. Make sure that the DPM server is a member of a domain and that the controller is running. Also verify that there is network connectivity between the DPM server and the domain controller. ID: 7 As usual (worryingly) the MSDN support for 2010 products is nearly non existant, clicking the error ID simply gives a page not found error. So after 2 days of Googling and trying various fixes (DNS settings, adding permissions to GPO objects, rejoining the domain and many more) I thought I'd ask here in the hope that someone out there may have had this issue before. Any help greatly appreciated!

• Please help, I am losing my data?

  I was trying to remove MSDN Library-January 2002 by using Revo Uninstaller. I allowed it to delelet those leftover registry entries(my fault, i should be more careful and don't do that). Now my machine is almost unaccessible, cannot open that Revo Uninstaller to recovery, cannot open Windows Explorer, cannot run CMD command from run, all executable shortcuts are not work anymore. I guess I have to reinstall everything but how can I get my data out of the machine? It is a Dell laptop with Windows XP. I am afraid if I restart my machine, my machine will not come back anymore. Please help.

  ftp supports the put "|..." "remote-file.name" command to pipe data to an ftp connection. Is there something similar available for sftp? In sftp i get the following error: sftp 'jmw@backupsrv:/uploads' sftp> put "| tar -cx /storage" "backup-2012-06-19--17-51.tgz" stat | tar -cv /storage: No such file or directory as above the sftp client doesn't obviously execute the command. i want to use the pipe command to directly redirect the file stream to sftp. (because there is not enough space left to create a backup file on the same disk before uploading it to sftp server.)
