  • Issue about Exchange 07 SP2 Backup in SBS 08

    Hi, I'm trying to backup my Exchange 07 SP2 with the Windows Server Backup. Since it's supposed to make a exchange-aware backup with the SP2, I created a scheduled full backup of the C: (where is located my First Storage Group). The backup is successful, but when I go in Mailbox database's properties, I see that the last full backup is 2 months ago (a that time backup worked but we had some issue then). In Server Manager, Features, I checked that I have Windows Server Backup Features checked. What am I missing ? Thank you !

  • What could cause a program to stay in "Add/Remove Programs" even after removing from registry

    Trying to manually remove an entry from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. (custom software, not MS KB patch or windows component and not doing anyting 'funky' like trying to stop itself form being uninstalled) Followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481 removing all applicable registry keys for program from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ and even tried rebooting but still it persists. Double checked followed KB314481 and search for program name doesn't return any other matches in that part of the registry. Any ideas what would cause this or how to solve?

  • locally logged on a domain joined Win 7 = no authentication prompt so no printing

    We have problems with Win 7 PC's when the user only log on locally on (a domain joined) PC, but still use the Windows printserver. Installed printers suddently stop working and seem to appear offline. In Windows XP the (logged on locally) user would be prompted to autheticate to the domain when printing, but in Windows 7 this feature seem to be faulty or not implemented. I assume the problem is a timeout on the Kerberos ticket. Of course the user has to authenticate to install the printer from the printserver, and that works fine, but in time the authenticaton stops, and no prompt appear. Any suggestions how we can "force" a prompt to authenticate like it happened in XP?

    I'm looking for a relatively simple guide to setting up an IPv6 tunnel properly. This network currently has a server (Windows Server 2008R2) running RRAS that establishes connectivity to the internet using a demand-dial PPPoE connection and handles the NAT. It also hosts a DNS server and DHCP. My ISP does not support IPv6, but I have a static IPv4 address. I've read about 6to4 and signed up at tunnelbroker.net, but quickly felt out of my depth. How do I configure my network to use it, and how I should configure my DHCP server with regards to IPv6 addresses?

  • Automatically restarting Perfmon Data Collector Sets

    I have a number of User Defined Data Collector Sets running on a Windows 2008R2 server, collecting perfmon stats from various servers. Whenever there is a network interruption, or a server rebooted (at worst, when the server which is running all these DCSs is rebooted), I have to manually restart some or all of the Data Collector Sets. Is there a way to configure them to automatically restart, or otherwise be more resilient?

    As you can see, my two Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) nodes have three network interfaces each, which connects them to three different networks : A public network A private network consisting of the WSFC nodes A private network consisting of the WSFC nodes and a machine with the WSFC Quorum Witness File Share Does this network configuration I've planned, make sense? Do I have the "right" number of NICs and networks? I'm thinking the 2nd NIC/network may be unnecessary. The API uses JSON to transfer data from SQL Server to the front end. We need to move it to an internal production environment (nothing will be exposed on the public Internet) and we’re having problems - or just not understanding what needs to be done. There are two domains: The corporate domain - where all users login normally. The process domain - contains the database the Web API needs to access. The IT staff wants to put a DMZ between the two domains to house the IIS app and shield the users on the corporate domain from having access into the process domain directly. The ideal configuration is: corp domain (end users) <–> firewall (open port 80) <–> DMZ (web server running IIS) <–> firewall (open port 80 or 1433????) <–> process domain (IIS for Web API and SQL Server) We don’t really understand how to deploy our browser/Web API application in this scenario. Do we need to break up our application so that all the client code is on the IIS server in the DMZ, while the Web API gets installed on the server in the process domain? Does the entire app (client code and Web API) stay together on the IIS server in the DMZ, which then somehow accesses the SQL Server instance to get data? From the IIS server and app in the DMZ, would you simply access the Web API on the server in the process domain by going to http://server/appname/api/getitmes? In the second firewall between the DMZ and the process domain, would you have to open port 1433 or just port 80 since the Web API is a HTTP endpoint? Or, is there some better way of deployment (i.e., how ASP.NET Web API single page applications written all in HTML5 and JavaScript supposed to be deployed to production environments?)? NB: The servers are Win2k8 R2, SQL Server 2k8 R2, and IIS 7.5.

The built-in ACL editor (Advanced Security Settings dialog) is adequate, but its limitations are frustrating, particularly that it cannot be resized and you cannot look at the list of existing entries at the same time as you are adding a new entry. Is there an improved ACL editor that can be downloaded to supplement the default one?

  • monitoring services, CPU, memory remotely on a Windows server machine

    I'm looking for a tool that is able to (remotely) monitor CPU and Memory in a Windows server but most importantly, which service/process is using it. Or-- is it possible to monitor a specific running service? We got a server that freezes on regular basis and we're trying to find the culprit without using a local debugger. Would be great if the monitoring software came with an agent that we can install on the remote clients for maximum accuracy. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

  • Need to Extend Volume

    Ok Here is where I am... I have an HP Proliant with 8 Drives configured as RAID5, and C:\Drive Disk 0 and D:\ drive Disk 1. I need to add more space to Disk 0 (C:) and have 150GB available on Disk 1 (D:). I tested the Disk Mgmt on D:\ and freed up 4GB which now shows to be Unallocated. How do I add the 4GB of Unallocated to the c:\? When I click on C:\ the Menu shows "Extend Volume" as Grayed Out not Black but the D:\ Drive shows Extend Volume as selectable/black.

  • Accessing the Local System Account to accept a software licence

    Hi All, I have a server at the moment running ColdFusion which is being used to access a windows whois program on the server. Each time I call this command via ColdFusion (using cfexecute) the command times out. I believe the issue is because the first time a user runs the .exe file they are asked to accept the licence. ColdFusion is currently set to run under the Local System account and I am just wondering if it is possible to somehow log into this account and run the program manually via the console so that I can accept the licence. I guess my only other option is to change the account ColdFusion runs under, but I would rather not do this.

    Hi guys, I have a flashplayer on my website. Behind it, there is an xml file which keeps the configuration of the products shown on that flashplayer. I do not understand why, if i modify something in the xml config file, the flash player is not updated at that moment, but after hours... Do you know why? I have not defined any rule for output caching in IIS7 so there is probably something default? Of course, i've tried Ctrl+f5 but does not work. Thanks.

  • using wbadmin to backup and recover

    HI I am using wbadmin to perform backups of a specific folder, primarily to backup my VHD files this is working fine but I tried to recover the files today using a different machine to the one which created the backup and couldnt get the machine doing the recovery to 'see' the backups. Is there a way to do this as my worry is that if I have a failure on the host which is perfmorming the backups I need to be able to install hyper-v on another host and recover the backed up VMs to there until I can rebuild the host. It appears that this isnt possible, I am hoping I am missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, assuming I have a namespace: dfsutil root adddom \\Foo\bar 'My namespace' And I have a link: dfsutil link add \\Foo\Bar\CoolStuff \\Server2\CoolStuff 'Neat stuff' How can I use the command line to replicate \\Server2\CoolStuff over, say, \\Server3\CoolStuff? When I use dfscmd: dfscmd /add \\Foo\Bar\CoolStuff \\Server3\CoolStuff It says it ended correctly, but opening up the MMC shows that there are no replication groups for CoolStuff. Thanks!

I checked the services and they are all logging in as local system or network service. Nothing for administrator. Anyone have any idea how I tell where these are coming from?   • poor performance when deleteing many files

    I've got two machines: The first is IBM Blade with 24 cores 96GB RAM and single local hard drive with 278GB divided to 4 partitions: 1. c: - 40GB; 3GB free 2. d: - 40GB; 37GB free 3. e: - 198322GB; 198.1 free 4. 100MB (EFI system Partition) Formatted with GPT The other is pizza server with 4 cores 8GB RAM and single local hard drive with 273GB divided to 3 partitions: 1. c: - 136.81; 20GB free 2. d: - 88.74GB; 87.91 free 3. e: - 47.85GB; 46.91 free Formatted with MBR I have two scripts, the first creates 20,000 files in one directory, each file size is 192KB, the second delete the folder (recursive) and prints how much time it toke to delete all files. The problem is on the first server (blade) it takes about 2 minutes to delete all 20,000 files while on the second (pizza) it takes about 4 seconds!? Both servers have clean windows server 2008R2 with no special application running on background. Any ideas what is going on?

  • VMware server 2.0 SYN/ACK repeating issues

    VMWare Server 2.0.0 Build 122956 I am having some issues with connecting into a guest VM (Ubuntu linux 4.4.3-4 lucid) running under VMware 2.0 on a windows server host. All connections to and from the VM's work fine, except for FTP. I thought the issue was the FTP daemon at first but it has been ruled out that it is not the daemon or the server itself. When you try to connect to the FTP server from outside of the host OS it fails with a "421 Service not available" but when you try and connect from the local VM or from the host OS the connection goes through fine. I have ran many packet sniffs using wireshark/tcpdump from the VM, the host OS, and the client connecting, the most informative is the host OS. I have attached a PNG of the relavant packets that were captured. I viewed some other network traffic that was sniffed (WWW specifically) and it seems to do the same syn/ack repeating but the user doesnt see any issues. I have disabled the firewall and the issues persisits, I have tried with specific allow rules to ensure the data is allowed and no changes. It appears like VMware attempts to do the ICMP redirect and it works, but then it vmware repeats the packets sent so you get 3 syn/ack's for every one syn from the client. Also VMWare appears to be attempting to establish an FTP connection between the HOST OS and the GUEST OS, because I see the second SYN sent from the HOST OS to the GUEST to initiate a new connection, and it get the appropriate SYN/ACK followed by an ACK, but the client never sees any of this from its end. EG. syn from client syn/ack from host OS to client syn/ack from guest OS to client syn/ack from host OS to client The same thing happens when the connection reset is attempted, RST's start being sent and repeated, the server responds with a valid header to continue the FTP handshake but the RST acknowledgement is allready issued and things are closed. I am not 100% if this is a bug in VMware or possibly a VMNetwork missconfiguration. Does anyone have any thoughts on where exactly the issue could be, things to try to verify or rule out?   • DNS lookup working but nothing pinging

    I have three forward lookup zones in my DNS server. When I try pinging a server that's part of lookup zone A from a computer that's part of that same zone, I get a response. If I try pinging a server that's not in the same zone as the computer I'm pinging from, I get nothing. When I try an nslookup of the servers that are not part of the same lookup zone, the names resolve correctly. If I append the domain onto the name, I can ping it just fine. Is there a way I can fix this? or do I need to keep appending the domain onto the name if the computer I'm trying to ping is not of the same domain as me?

  • Implementing an isolated guest WLAN via IPSec VPN on Windows

    We are attempting to set up a guest WLAN network that is isolated from the rest of our network. This is proving difficult due to a couple of technical reasons. My first choice was to use a separate VLAN, on which our Firewall's handy WLAN port would handle DHCP, DNS and the network isolation we need. Unfortunately, due to the fact that our main office and our Internet connection itself are in different locations connected by way of a Metro Ethernet connection, I'm at the mercy of our ISP for VLAN transit. They won't pass a second VLAN between our two sites. And my hardware doesn't support 802.1ad "Q-in-Q", which would also solve this problem. So I can't use the VLAN method for isolation. At least not without spending money. As our Firewall can handle IPSec site-to-site VPN connections, I hope it is possible to connect a Server 2008R2 (standard) server I have in the office location to the WLAN and provide gateway services to the firewall. Thusly: Unfortunately, I don't know if it is possible to connect the two this way. The firewall has a pretty flexible IPSec/L2TP implementation (I've used it to connect iPads in the wild), but is neither Kerberized or supports NTLM. The Connection Security Rules view on the Windows server seems to get close to what I think needs to be done, but I'm failing on figuring out how to get it to do what I need it to do. Is this even possible, or do I need to pursue alternate solution?

    We have a database file (foxpro) on a Windows share (2003 server). We're having some problems where the program that writes to this file has to retry as the file is locked. This all happens very quickly and within a few seconds the file is available, but the problem is it shouldn't be locked. Does anyone know how we can view what's locking it? Any tools available?

  • Setting up Raid 1 Array for Home Server

    I'm not sure if this is even possible, but it's worth asking on here! Essentially I have a old machine at home (well, not old hardware wise, but I recently built a new gaming rig), which I decided to install a copy of W2008 R2 on and use as a file/backup server and media center'ish machine. As of now, it has a single drive partitioned into C and D, with D being the Data partition. I have happened to find an old 1TB SATA drive lying around at home, and was wondering if it's possible to setup a Raid 1 array in my rig within Windows without needing to lose everything on my first drive (or maybe even just mirror a specific partition, say the Data partition, as this is just what stores my photos etc). Maybe this isn't possible, but you never know :) Regards, T.C

  • Executing EXE with wildcard from psexec

    I'm writing a few scripts that I am using to integrate with bamboo for some continuous integration improvements and I've run into a bit of a snag. I'm currently trying to run a psexec command that installs the latest build on the remote machine but I dont necessary know the revision number. For example, the remote exe file could be Installer-3.1.xxxxx.exe where the xxxxx changes. I tried running the command with Installer-3.1.*.exe but it takes it as literal in Windows. I'm not overly familiar with Windows command prompt and am more used to Linux at this moment.
