  • HTML5 Form: Page Is Reloading Instantly After Restyling (And It Shouldn't Be)

    - by user3689753
    I have a form. I have made it so that if your name is not put in, a red border is put on the name field. That works, BUT...it's for a split second, and then the page reloads. I want the red border to appear, and then stay there. For some reason it's for a split second. Can someone help me make it so the page doesn't reload after displaying the red border? Here's the script. window.onload = function() { document.getElementById("Hogwarts").onsubmit = function () { window.alert("Form submitted. Owl being sent..."); var fname = document.getElementById("fName"); if(!fName.value.match("^[A-Z][A-Za-z]+( [A-Z][A-Za-z]*)*$")) { window.alert("You must enter your name."); addClass(fName, "errorDisp"); document.getElementById("fName").focus(); } else return true; } } function addClass(element, classToAdd) { var currentClassValue = element.className; if (currentClassValue.indexOf(classToAdd) == -1) { if ((currentClassValue == null) || (currentClassValue === "")) { element.className = classToAdd; } else { element.className += " " + classToAdd; } } } function removeClass(element, classToRemove) { var currentClassValue = element.className; if (currentClassValue == classToRemove) { element.className = ""; return; } var classValues = currentClassValue.split(" "); var filteredList = []; for (var i = 0 ; i < classValues.length; i++) { if (classToRemove != classValues[i]) { filteredList.push(classValues[i]); } } element.className = filteredList.join(" "); } Here's the HTML. <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"> <title>Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry Application Form</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="main.css" media="screen"/> <script src="script.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <section> <header> <h1>Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry</h1> <nav></nav> </header> <main> <form method="post" id="Hogwarts"> <!--<form action="showform.php" method="post" id="Hogwarts">--!> <fieldset id="aboutMe"> <legend id="aboutMeLeg">About Me</legend> <div class="fieldleading"> <label for="fName" class="labelstyle">First name:</label> <input type="text" id="fName" name="fName" autofocus maxlength="50" value="" placeholder="First Name" size="30"> <label for="lName" class="labelstyle">Last name:</label> <input type="text" id="lName" name="lName" required maxlength="50" value="" placeholder="Last Name" pattern="^[A-Za-z ]{3,}$" size="30"> <label for="age" class="labelstyle">Age:</label> <input type="number" id="age" name="age" required min="17" step="1" max="59" value="" placeholder="Age"> </div> <div class="fieldleading"> <label for="date" class="labelstyle">Date Of Birth:</label> <input type="date" name="date1" id="date" required autofocus value=""> </div> <div id="whitegender"> <div class="fieldleading"> <label class="labelstyle">Gender:</label> </div> <input type="radio" name="sex" value="male" class="gender" required="required">Male<br/> <input type="radio" name="sex" value="female" class="gender" required="required">Female<br/> <input type="radio" name="sex" value="other" class="gender" required="required">Other </div> </fieldset> <fieldset id="contactInfo"> <legend id="contactInfoLeg">Contact Information</legend> <div class="fieldleading"> <label for="street" class="labelstyle">Street Address:</label> <input type="text" id="street" name="street" required autofocus maxlength="50" value="" placeholder="Street Address" pattern="^[0-9A-Za-z\. ]+{5,}$" size="35"> <label for="city" class="labelstyle">City:</label> <input type="text" id="city" name="city" required autofocus maxlength="30" value="" placeholder="City" pattern="^[A-Za-z ]{3,}$" size="35"> <label for="State" class="labelstyle">State:</label> <select required id="State" name="State" > <option value="Select Your State">Select Your State</option> <option value="Delaware">Delaware</option> <option value="Pennsylvania">Pennsylvania</option> <option value="New Jersey">New Jersey</option> <option value="Georgia">Georgia</option> <option value="Connecticut">Connecticut</option> <option value="Massachusetts">Massachusetts</option> <option value="Maryland">Maryland</option> <option value="New Hampshire">New Hampshire</option> <option value="New York">New York</option> <option value="Virginia">Virginia</option> </select> </div> <div class="fieldleading"> <label for="zip" class="labelstyle">5-Digit Zip Code:</label> <input id="zip" name="zip" required autofocus maxlength="5" value="" placeholder="Your Zip Code" pattern="^\d{5}$"> <label for="usrtel" class="labelstyle">10-Digit Telephone Number:</label> <input type="tel" name="usrtel" id="usrtel" required autofocus value="" placeholder="123-456-7890" pattern="^\d{3}[\-]\d{3}[\-]\d{4}$"> </div> <div class="fieldleading"> <label for="email1" class="labelstyle">Email:</label> <input type="email" name="email1" id="email1" required autofocus value="" placeholder="[email protected]" pattern="^[a-z0-9._%+-]+@[a-z0-9.-]+\.[a-z]{2,4}$" size="35"> <label for="homepage1" class="labelstyle">Home Page:</label> <input type="url" name="homepage1" id="homepage1" required autofocus value="" placeholder="http://www.hp.com" pattern="https?://.+" size="35"> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset id="yourInterests"> <legend id="yourInterestsLeg">Your Interests</legend> <label for="Major" class="labelstyle">Major/Program Choice:</label> <select required id="Major" name="Major" > <option value="">Select Your Major</option> <option value="Magic1">Magic Horticulture</option> <option value="Magic2">Black Magic</option> <option value="White">White Magic</option> <option value="Blue">Blue Magic</option> <option value="Non">Non-Wizardry Studies</option> </select> </fieldset> <button type="submit" value="Submit" class="submitreset">Submit</button> <button type="reset" value="Reset" class="submitreset">Reset</button> </form> </main> <footer> &copy;   • Simple POST random number issue in PHP

    - by MrEnder
    Ok I am trying to make something to ask you random multiplication questions. Now it asks the questions fine. Generates the random questions fine. But when it reloads the page the random numbers are different... how can I fix this? <?php $rndnum1 = rand(1, 12); $rndnum2 = rand(1, 12); echo "<h3>". $rndnum1 . " x "; echo $rndnum2 . "</h3>"; if($_SERVER["REQUEST_METHOD"] == "GET") { $answer=0; } else if($_SERVER["REQUEST_METHOD"] == "POST") { $answer=trim($_POST["answerInput"]); $check=$rndnum1*$rndnum2; if($answer==$check) { echo "Correct!"; } else { echo "Wrong!"; } } ?> <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post" > <table> <tr> <td> First Name:&nbsp; </td> <td> <input type="text" name="answerInput" value="<?php echo $answer; ?>" size="20"/> </td> <td> <?php echo $answerError; ?> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="signupTd" colspan="2"> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit"/> </td> </tr> </table> </form>

  • Getting number of hits from Google API

    - by drRoflol
    I've tried to find a way to do this, but without success. I'm looking for a way to find out how many hits a search gets, and I don't want to do this manually, or with regex searching trough the html code. Surely the Google APIs must have a simple way to do this. Does anyone know of one?

  • Google API to check number of indexed pages?

    - by Probocop
    Is there a Google API similar to Yahoo and Bing's API's to check for the number of indexed pages on a specified domain? For example, for Yahoo if I type in the following URL: http://search.yahooapis.com/SiteExplorerService/V1/pageData?appid=MTSlade&query=http://www.dave-sellers.co.uk&domain_only=1&results=1 Then it will return some XML detailing the number of pages indexed as 'totalResultsAvailable' Any idea? Thanks

  • Twitter Substring Searches

    - by Dylan
    If there is a way to do this, it should be a fairly straightforward question. Using the twitter search api, is there a way to return results that contain a part of the word (searching "#dog" would return "#dogs" as-well)? Thanks

  • PostgreSQL and PHP forms

    - by MrEnder
    Ok I have a PostgreSQL server with a Database titled brittains_db that I only have PuTTY access to. I can also upload via FTP to the web server which has access to PostgreSQL and the Database somehow... I have made a SQL file named logins.sql CREATE TABLE logins( userName VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, password VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL, firstName NOT NULL, lastName NOT NULL, ageDay INTEGER NOT NULL, ageMonth INTEGER NOT NULL, ageYear INTEGER NOT NULL, email VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, createDate DATE ) Then I made a form to get all that information. <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post" > <table> <tr> <td class="signupTd"> First Name:&nbsp; </td> <td> <input type="text" name="firstNameSignupForm" value="<?php echo $firstNameSignup; ?>" size="20"/> </td> <td> <?php echo $firstNameSignupError; ?> </td> </tr> ... code continues I had it save all the information in variables if page run on POST $firstNameSignup=trim($_POST["firstNameSignupForm"]); $lastNameSignup=trim($_POST["lastNameSignupForm"]); $userNameSignup=trim($_POST["userNameSignupForm"]); $passwordSignup=trim($_POST["passwordSignupForm"]); $passwordConfirmSignup=trim($_POST["passwordConfirmSignupForm"]); $monthSignup=trim($_POST["monthSignupForm"]); $daySignup=trim($_POST["daySignupForm"]); $yearSignup=trim($_POST["yearSignupForm"]); $emailSignup=trim($_POST["emailSignupForm"]); $emailConfirmSignup=trim($_POST["emailConfirmSignupForm"]); All information was then validated Now comes the points where I need to upload it to PostgreSQL How do I put my table in Postgre? How do I insert my information into my table? and how would I recall that information to display it?

For sure, i can version code behind assemblies, but if markup changes for any of my files in LAYOUTS folder? Is there versioning available for files or do i have to choose new filename for my form?

  • php if clause inside foreach not retrieving data correctly

    - by Mike
    Here's my issue: In my controller, I want to grab user input from a form. I then parse the input, and compare it to database values to ensure I'm grabbing the correct input. I simply want to match the user's answers to the question, grab the user ID, the question ID, and then determine if the answer applies to a multiple choice or checkbox question, or something else. I take those values and insert them into the answer table. Ignore the waiver stuff. I'll test that once I get the answers input correctly. // add answers and waiver consent records try { $answerArray = array(); $waiverArray = array(); // retrieve answers, waiver consents, and the question ID's from form object foreach ($formData as $key => $value) { $parts = explode("_", $key); if ($parts[0] == 'question') { array_push($answerArray, $value); } if ($parts[0] == 'waiverTitle') { array_push($waiverArray, $value); } } $questions = new Model_DbTable_Questions(); $questionResults = $questions->getQuestionResults($session->idEvent); foreach ( $questionResults as $qr ) { if ($qr ['questionType'] == 'multipleChoice' || $qr ['questionType'] == 'checkBox') { foreach ( $answerArray as $aa ) { $answerData = $answers->addAnswer ( $lastUserID, $qr ['idQuestion'], null, $aa ); echo count ( $answerData ) . ', ' . $qr ['questionType'] . ', ' . $aa . '<br />'; } } else { foreach ( $answerArray as $aa ) { $answerData = $answers->addAnswer ( $lastUserID, $qr ['idQuestion'], $aa, null ); echo count ( $answerData ) . ', ' . $qr ['questionType'] . ', ' . $aa . '<br />'; } } } } catch (Zend_Db_Statement_Exception $e) { $e->getMessage(); throw $e; } From my test data, I expect to get 2 records that match the multiple choice and checkbox criteria, and 1 record for text in the ELSE clause like this: 3, checkbox, 1 3, multipleChoice, 1 3, text, question_2 What I get is a 3x3 Cartesian product, 3 question elements each with the 3 possible answers like this output from the echo statements: 4, checkBox, 1 4, checkBox, 1 4, checkBox, question_2 4, multipleChoice, 1 4, multipleChoice, 1 4, multipleChoice, question_2 4, text, 1 4, text, 1 4, text, question_2 I've tried placing the IF clause inside the inner foreach, but I get the same results. I've been staring at this problem for way too long and cannot see what I'm doing wrong. Your kind assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if my request requires more clarification.

  • PHP Summarize any URL

    - by Dylan Taylor
    Hey guys, How can I, in PHP, get a summary of any URL? By summary, I mean something similar to the URL descriptions in Google web search results. Is this possible? Is there already some kind of tool I can plug in to so I don't have to generate my own summaries? I don't want to use metadata descriptions if possible. -Dylan

  • jQuery / javascript and nested if statements

    - by rayne
    I have a multi-lingual page where I want to display form validation error in the user's language. I use a hidden input to determine which language version the user is browsing like this: <input type="hidden" name="lang" id="lang" value="<?php echo $lang; ?>" /> The PHP side of the script works, but jQuery doesn't seem to realize which language is passed on. It displays the English error message no matter on which language site I am. Here's the code (I removed the other form fields for length): $(document).ready(function(){ $('#contact').submit(function() { $(".form_message").hide(); var emailReg = /^([\w-\.]+@([\w-]+\.)+[\w-]{2,4})?$/; var lang = $("#lang").val(); var name = $("#name").val(); var dataString = { 'lang': lang, 'name': name } if (name == '') { if (lang == 'de') { $("#posted").after('<div class="form_message"><p><span class="error">Fehler:</span> Bitte gib deinen Namen an!</p></div>'); } else { $("#posted").after('<div class="form_message"><p><span class="error">Error:</span> Please enter your name!</p></div>'); } $("#name").focus(); $("#name").addClass('req'); } else { $("#loading").show(); $("#loading").fadeIn(400).html('<img src="/img/loading.gif" />Loading...'); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/contact-post.php", data: dataString, cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#loading").hide(); $("#posted").after('<div class="form_message"><p>Thank you! Your contact request has been sent.</p></div>'); $("#contact input:submit").attr("disabled", "disabled").val("Success!"); } }); }return false; }); }); The problem seems to be somewhere in the nested if statement. Does jQuery / javascript even recognize nested ifs? And if yes, why is it not working?

  • Why is Perl commonly used for writing CGI scripts?

    - by Michael Vasquez
    I plan to add a better search feature to my site, so I thought that I would write it in C and use the CGI as a means to access it. But it seems that Perl is the most popular language when it comes to CGI-based stuff. Why is that? Wouldn't it be faster programmed in C or machine code? What advantages, if any, are there to writing it in a scripting language? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to searchusing type information in visual studio

    - by SnOrfus
    It comes up from time to time and I'm wondering of it's possible to use type info when searching in visual studio, or is there a plugin that includes this? I'd like to search for the phrase "x == " or "x.ToString();" where x is of type 'Person'. The normal regex searches are strictly searching the text as opposed to the content and I figured out a long time ago that any thought I have is never the first.

  • Best way to layout in HTML forms?

    - by Jen
    I want to display an HTML form containing labelled text fields, like this: First Name: [_____________] Last Name: [_____________] Date of Birth: [________] My obvious approach is to use a <TABLE> and simply place the labels and text fields in its cells, but is there a better way, e.g. a CSS-based approach?

  • Does Microsoft still sell FAST ESP?

    - by Kunal Sen
    I wanted some information about FAST ESP search engine. After failing to get any response from the email query system on Microsoft site I called their ore-sales phone number. The person there told me the only way they sell FAST ESP is as a bundled product with SharePoint. That really does not make any sense and contradicts all the PDF documents they have about FAST ESP on their site. Does anyone know who to contact at Microsoft to discuss this product?
