• Experience with laptop Keyboards?

  I'm thinking of retiring my 3 year old HP laptop I want to know which manufacturor makes laptops with the best Keyboards? I loved my Full width keyboard, with numberic pad on my HP, I've tried a a few laptop keyboards in shops and have found none of them satisfying to type with. What I want is something that will maximise my typing comfort. All the ones I see in shops seem to be designed to look good but feel horible. The keys are either too shiny, too small, or don't press down enough. All I want it a keyboard thats comfortable, I've been given a Lenovo laptop by my work and I've had to resort to pluging in a USB keyboard while I work, which is less than ideal.

• UITextField with the lookup

  Hello, I would like to achive the same functinoanlity in the UUTextField control as Google search web site (which uses Ajax for this): as user start typing, list of suggestion searches is shown. Then more letteres you type, suggestion list changes. So imaging I have array of words: Apple Abc Aman As user types A, all thress suggesions are shown, if user type one more letter p, then Apple is suggested. How would I do something like this? Mail type of applicatins do it, when receipent name is typed in the To: edit control I guess I can use UITableView with the search, is it correct approach?

• How do I change the on-screen keyboard for a PasswordBox

  I have a box that I want to take a password of only numbers (like an ATM-card PIN), how is the best way to do that? Requirements: Password (with the hidden numbers) Typing digits as the default (only?) keyboard What I've tried: I thought that InputScopes would be the way to go, but I can't set the input scope on a password box. I even tried putting the password InputScope on a normal TextBox, but that didn't mask the appearance of the characters in the text box. Suggestions?

I want to have a layout with a bunch of Icon or buttons that can be selected either by touch, radio, or checked box.   I'm able to get Markdown and html formated text from WMD editor. In my requirement i also need to get plain text from WMD Editor. I would like to explain a simple example. In StackOverflow we will see markdown text while typing description in wmd editor, in preview we are able to see the formated text. In Question Page, with out this markdown and formated text we are able to see the question description in two lines. I need to achieve same kind of functionality. • Workaround iPhone's browser not honoring the <label> element

  Hi, Just ran into this recently and I thought it'd be helpful to share. The HTML <label> element is supported in a weird way by iPhone's (v3) browser. Try this: <input type="checkbox" id="chkTest" /><label for="chkTest">Click me!</label> Tapping the "Click me!" label has no effect, the checkbox is not checked. Lack of support in a touch device for <label> elements puzzled me and I tried to overcome this issue by using javascript. The surprise came when a I noticed a void javascript like the one below also did the trick: <input type="checkbox" id="chkTest" /><label for="chkTest" onclick="javascript:void(0);">Click me!</label> HTH Further info: Also works with an empty handler: onclick="" Disabling JavaScript inactivates again the label, even if using the empty handler.

• Trying to compile MobileSubstrate addon - Undefined symbol

  Hi! I went through this tutorial to create a MobileSubstrate addon. I could compile the example hook without errors. But as soon as I add #import <SpringBoard/SBAwayController.h> in ExampleHookProtocol.h and SBAwayController *awayController = [SBAwayController sharedAwayController]; in ExampleHookLibrary.mm (as the first line of the __$ExampleHook_AppIcon_Launch function) I get the following error message when attempting to make (triggered by the latter change): Undefined symbols: "_OBJC_CLASS_$_SBAwayController", referenced from: __objc_classrefs__DATA@0 in ExampleHookLibrary.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [ExampleHook.dylib] Error 1. The header file for SBAwayController is located in /var/toolchain/sys30/usr/include/SpringBoard, just like SBApplicationIcon.h, which is used by the ExampleHook. I'm compiling on my iPod touch 2G.   I am developing an app for Nokia 5800 Music Express (S60 5th edition) using PyS60 (Python for S60) ,I want to simulate a KeyPress say if a message comes,I detect a message and Press a Key. There does exist a Keypress module for PyS60 for 2nd edition phones which allows this. However I have not been able to install it on my 5th ed phone. Is this module portable? If yes then how do I install it (I get certificate error) and If no then any alternatives for simulating a key press on a 5th edition touch phone?

• In Subversion, I know when a file was added, what's the quickest way to find out when it was deleted

  OK, so suppose I know I added file "foo.txt" to my Subversion repository at revision 500. So I can do a svn log -v http://svnrepo/path/foo.txt@500, and that shows all the files added at the same time. What's the fastest way to find when the file was deleted after it was added? I tried svn log -r500:HEAD -v http://svnrepo/path/foo.txt@500, but that gives me "path not found" - perhaps obviously, because the file "foo.txt" doesn't exist at "HEAD". I can try a binary search algorithm going forward through revisions (and that would certainly be faster than typing this question), but is there a better way?

  I have an Observable and an Observer. The observable does download some stuff in a background thread and calls notifyObservers to let the observers read the status. At some point in public void update the observer tries to updates the GUI ((TextView)findViewById('R.id.foo')).setText("bar"); but it seems like the observable thread calls this method, because the Observable (!!!) throws this: android.view.ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views. at android.view.ViewRoot.checkThread(ViewRoot.java:2462) at android.view.ViewRoot.requestLayout(ViewRoot.java:512) ... at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.startPlay(TrackActivity.java:72) at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.update(TrackActivity.java:107) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:147) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:128) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.stateChanged(Download.java:213) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.run(Download.java:186) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1058) Is there some way I can prevent this from happening? • Dreamweaver - template not recognising child files until they are opened

  Hi I've got a new section for a website which I have generated for a data source and it has markup for using a Dreamweaver template. When I add the new files and folders to the site , then update my template , it doesn't find the new files to update. If I open one of the new files , make a change in the template , then it recognises the new file is using the template. So it's almost like I have to touch all the files with Dreamweaver first. I've tried to open all the new files which need to use the template but then Dreamweaver CS4 crashes, I presume because of the number of files it's opening. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to make Dreamweaver recognise that a block of new files belong to the template , it doesn't seem to just work automatically Thanks Chris

• python,running command line servers - they're not listening properly

  hello all Im attempting to start a server app (in erlang, opens ports and listens for http requests) via the command line using pexpect (or even directly using subprocess.Popen()). the app starts fine, logs (via pexpect) to the screen fine, I can interact with it as well via command line... the issue is that the servers wont listen for incoming requests. The app listens when I start it up manually, by typing commands in the command line. using subprocess/pexpect stops the app from listening somehow... when I start it manually "netstat -tlp" displays the app as listening, when I start it via python (subprocess/pexpect) netstat does not register the app... I have a feeling it has something to do with the environemnt, the way python forks things, etc. Any ideas? thank you

• (iPhone) Instruments can't "Attach to Process"

  Actually, I'm using a second generation Ipod Touch. What I'm trying to do is to debug my app on XCode and look for any memory leaks on Instruments at the same time. Is it even possible? Because the "Attach to Process" submenu lists when my app is running (or debugging in this case) but all the items inside this menu are disabled. All I can do is start the app from Instruments but later I come across some bug and I want to see the variables and properties affected. I'm also new to Instruments. Please, could someone give me any advice? Help would be greatly appreciated!

  I am aware that it is not possible to echo the * while you type in standard ANSI C. But is there a way to display nothing while someone is typing their password in the console. What I mean is like the sudo prompts in a Unix/Linux terminal. Like if you type in the command: sudo cp /etc/somefile ~/somedir. You are usually prompted for the root password. And while you type it in, the terminal displays nothing. Is this effect possible in C? If it is, how?

In SICP's exercise there is many tasks where students should create abstract functions with many parameters, like (define (filtered-accumulate combiner null-value term a next b filter)...) in exercise 3.11. In Java (language with safe, static typing discipline) - method with more than 4 arguments usually smells, but in Lisp/Scheme it doesnt, does it? I'm wandering how many arguments do you use in you functions? If you use it in production, do you make such many layers?

• JQuery Autocomplete only suggesting first row

  I'm doing research using JQuery's Autocomplete plugin and Google Maps' API. What I have so far is located here. I'm using Asp.net MVC to generate the list of potential address matches (limited to US addresses only) and presenting them as a pipe-delimeted list to Autocomplete, which is supposed to be .spliting them up and suggesting them to the user. The problem I'm having (besides a stubborn IE-only javascript error, which I'll break into another question), is that only the first result is suggested. This page clearly shows two results, yet typing "3118" into the textbox produces only the Galax Dr result. How can I get Automplete to produce both results?

• How do you use selected vertical blocks in Visual Studio 2008 and 2010?

  I get that you can select a vertical block in Visual Studio 2008 (alt-drag), but I don't understand how you use it once it's selected. How do you: Move the selection point inside the block and have the text you're typing get inserted on every line simultaneously? Move the block one space to the right/left Or can you just copy/delete the selection? I assumed when I saw the ability to select that it was something like TextMate's vertical blocks, but maybe it's just not as advanced as that. New behavior (as of VS2010 RC - added 13 Feb 2010): You can now type in the selection and have the same thing show up on every line. Tab moves the selected block

• iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

  Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing. What are the best options for real freelancing or small business built around development skills? (I am only looking for local clients, odesk etc is not interesting) Most options open for small companies are web sites. But most clients don't want to pay much, and there are lots of people that are willing to do it for very little money. Think if you want to do money that way you must be a "web site" business. Think the best option should be to work for companies spending a lot of resources on web and db? How could I get in touch with them? Other ideas? Part of my concept is to use some off-shoring to complement my skillset, so i should be able to do PHP or Drupal even if I am not at expert level.
