• Accessing Instance Attributes from Secondary Thread (iPhone-SDK)

  I have a class with an NSDictionary attribute. Inside this class I dispatch another thread to handle NSXMLParser handling. Inside my -didStartElement, I access the dictionary in the class (to compare an element found in the XML to one in the dictionary). At this point I get undefined results. Using NSLog (I'm not advanced in XCode debugging), I see that it bombs around access of the NSDictionary. I tried just iterating the dictionary and dumping the key/values inside the didStartElement and this bombs at different keys each time. The only thing I can conclude is that something is not kosher that I'm doing with regards to accessing main thread attributes from the secondary thread. I'm somewhat new to multithreading and am not sure what the best protocol is safely access attributes from additional threads. Thanks all.

  I'm trying to run Selenium RC 1.0.3 using Java 6, JUnit 4, and Eclipse on Snow Leopard. • CUDA Driver API vs. CUDA runtime

  When writing CUDA applications, you can either work at the driver level or at the runtime level as illustrated on this image (The libraries are CUFFT and CUBLAS for advanced math): I assume the tradeoff between the two are increased performance for the low-evel API but at the cost of increased complexity of code. What are the concrete differences and are there any significant things which you cannot do with the high-level API? I am using CUDA.net for interop with C# and it is built as a copy of the driver API. This encourages writing a lot of rather complex code in C# while the C++ equivalent would be more simple using the runtime API. Is there anything to win by doing it this way? The one benefit I can see is that it is easier to integrate intelligent error handling with the rest of the C# code.

  Hello, I recently started experimenting with jQgrid, and much appreciate for any guidance on the below use case. I need to implement a (advanced)search functionality, and the results are loaded in the jQgrid. When use pagination, how to specify a complex query in the post data? In the serverside (grails) it it represented as an object, which is mocked below class searchCommand { String val1 List<long> ids //from the multiple selection } the above members can be null, if the user doesn't select any. Without saving the state at the server, I guess the only way to make the pagination work is to pass the query object back and forth with the correct offset, index etc. if that is the case, how best to represent it in jQgrid side. I saw a parameter postData to set additional values, but not sure how to represnt the data (JSON??). Any code snippet on (retaining) converting it from the last result to postData would be helpful. thanks in advance.

  I have been attempting to implement the 'advanced' tabwidget example from google. But, when it tries to call tabHost.addTab(spec); I get a stack trace from the debugger. Sorry, I don't have the stack trace here, but I'm wondering if others have had this same issue (as this code had a number of typo's and missing information that stopped me from even compiling. Can anyone point me to a corrected/running version of this code? • How do I set the encoding statement in the XML declaration when performing an XSL transformation usi

  I wrote a simple package installer in WinBatch that needs to update an XML file with information about the package contents. My first stab at it involved loading the file with Msxml2.DOMDocument, adding nodes and data as required, then saving the data back to disk. This worked well enough, except that it would not create tab and CR/LF whitespace in the new data. The solution I came up with was writing an XSL stylesheet that would recreate the XML file with whitespace added back in. I'm doing this by: loading the XSL file into an Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument object setting that object as the stylesheet property of an Msxml2.XSLTemplate object creating an XSL processor via Msxml2.XSLTemplate.createProcessor() setting my original Msxml2.DOMDocument as the input property of the XSL processor Calling transform() method of the XSL processor, and saving the output to a file. This works as for as reformatting the XML file with tabs and carriage returns, but my XML declaration comes out either as <?xml version="1.0"?> or <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?> depending on whether I used Msxml2.*.6.0 or Msxml2.* objects (a fall back if the system doesn't have 6.0). If the encoding is set to UTF-16, Msxml12.DOMDocument complains about trying to convert UTF-16 to 1-byte encoding the next time I run my package installer. I've tried creating and adding an XML declaration using both createProcessingInstruction() to both the XML and XSL DOM objects, but neither one seems to affect the output of the XSLTemplate processor. I've also set encoding to UTF-8 in the <xsl:output/> tag in my XSL file. • Is it possible to use WinMerge inside Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Source Safe 6.0?

  I would like to use WinMerge as the default diff tool inside VS2008 from the solutions explorer in place of the "Compare..." context menu item. Is this possible? I'm looking for a quick replacement of the current bland diff tool an I just like WinMerge better. I'm not interested in going to the folder explorer and doing the comparison there.   Im new to ActionScript and Flex 3... im trying to develop an MVC 100% OOP application with Flex 3 using MXML,AS3 and PHP. M (PHP) V (MXML) C (AS3) The 3 layers i choose for my development. I have 10 AS3 classes that are object related between them and some inherit or implement interfaces. The only problem here is how to interact 100% OOP with my model. In this case my model has to be a PHP Class that needs to be called from AS3 (the controller). For example the AS3 class : Patient have a method called Save: public function Save(data:Array) : void { /* PHP call - model layer */ } I want to create an instance of my PHP Patient Model class that connects to the DB and insert the data array into it. • CSS layout with 2 columns, taking up all width of browser, where left column can collapse

  I want to have a 2 column layout, and have the left column able to be 200 px at first, and have a "shrink" button to shrink it down to 10px, and have the right column expand to fill all the rest of the available space. Then if they click on the "show" button (which will be all they see in the now 10px wide left column) have the left grow back to 200px and have the right column shrink by that amount. I can't figure out how to make the right column grown and shrink without knowing the exact width of the window. I hope this makes sense, and I really hope someone can point me in the right direction. Browser requirements are IE8, FF3.6, Safari, and Chrome, so in theory I can use some advanced CSS techniques. At least I don't have to support IE6.

  I have a file we will call info.txt under UNIX format that has only the following in it: #Dogs #Cats #Birds #Rabbits and am running this against it: $filename = "info.txt"; $fd = fopen ($filename, "r"); $contents = fread ($fd,filesize ($filename)); fclose ($fd); $delimiter = "#"; $insideContent = explode($delimiter, $contents); Now everything looks to be working fine except when I display the array I get the following. [0] => [1] => Dogs [2] => Cats [3] => Birds [4] => Rabbits I checked the .txt file to make sure there wasn't any space or hidden characters in front of the first # so I'm at a loss of why this is happening other than I feel like I'm missing something terribly simple. • Arguments of using WCF/OData as access layer instead of EF/L2S/nHibernate directly

  We develop mostly low traffic but highly specialized web applications. Normally we use L2S, EF or nHibernate as access layer and then throws Asp.Net MVC to it and in which for normal crud operations we query the ISession/DataContext directly but for more advanced functions/side effects we put it in a some kind of service layer. Now, i was think about publishing the data through OData (WCF Data Service) and query that from the controllers (or even from jQuery when the a good template engine shows up) and publish the service operations through a WCF service (or as custom methods on the WCF Data Service?). What advantages/disadvantages does this architecture poses? Do I gain something except higher complexity and latency? Better separations of concerns (or is it just a illusion)?

• Are you as productive in Javascript as you are in .Net or Java?

  I code primarily in javascript and in vb.net. I've found that if I can achieve the same thing in both javascript and vb.net that I feel far more productive and expressive using javascript for the task. I often find myself researching server-side javascript implementations to see if anything has gone mainstream so that I can code my back-end business logic and data access in javascript. Given all the advanced tooling and language features in .Net this preference seems somewhat paradoxical to me. I'm not suggesting one is better than the other (I've been a vb programmer since I started programming), I'm just wondering if my preference is entirely subjective or if anyone else shares it. So, does anyone else enjoy coding in javascript to the point where you prefer it to the .Net and Java environment, and if, so why?

This object must not be renamed by the Google Closure Compiler as Google Analytics looks for a variable with this specific name. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you. One of these is the app cache that allows web pages to run on the client, from the cache, without a connection to the internet. Together with Local Storage you can also save data permanently "in" the page. My question is, would it then be possible to make a website that when visited and set as a web clip (bookmark on the home screen), could be accessed again, at any moment. Using HTML5, Javascript and css, you can make some very good apps and at the same time avoid the pricey developer fee, the harsh app approval and the single platform development platform? Or am I just dreaming?

  i have stumbled upon these GUI tools that could help you manage your linux server through a web interface. ebox, webmin, ispconfig, zivios, ispcp, plesk, cpanel etc. i wonder what the pros and cons are with these solutions. a lot of people is saying that they are not as good as using pure command line (ssh) to manage your server. but i think thats yet another "linux are for advanced users" talk. i agree that some things may only be done with the command line by editing directly in the configuration files. but i don't really want to do that every time and for everything. its like not having phpmyadmin for managing mysql. it would be a pain in the ass right? so if one wants to throw up a web server serving a php site oneself developed and wants all the usual stuff up and running (mysql, phpmyadmin, svn, webdav etc) is these tools the right way to go?

  I've been trying for a couple of days now to learn UDK, but I seem to be stuck at making that leap to understanding how everything works together. I understand the syntax, that's all well and good, and I pretty much get how classes and .ini files interact. As for the API, I have the entire reference as pretty decent Doxygen-style HTML output. What I'm looking for is a sort of intermediate tutorial on game creation from scratch (as opposed to modding UT3 itself), more advanced than just learning language syntax, but not yet to the level of going through the API step by step. I'm looking for some guide to the structure of the internals - how GameInfo and PlayerController interact, where Pawn comes in, etc. - a way to visualize the big picture. Does anyone have a particular favorite intermediate-level tutorials (or set of tutorials) that they used when first learning UDK?

  What is the best way to structure a VB.NET windows forms application so that code can be reused and the app can be extended easily. I used to create lots of new forms. This lead to lots of repeated code and forms which did similar things. Now, for forms which do similar jobs, such as view/edit/delete items from a specific db table, I create a form with the required controls, have the form create an instance of a class with params such as a collection of the controls and a string containing the db table name. Then the individual controls call functions of the class. Advanced forms will inherit and extend this basic form class. 1) Has there already been work done in this area? 2) Are there books / articles available which discuss the options available on this topic?   I am currently creating an opencv program that identifies a hand in an image and then gets the contour of the hand only, in order for us to get the center (x,y)m in pixels, of the hand. The problem is that whenever the image or video includes an arm or a face, we can't split or separate the hand from the contours of the arm or the face. We are currently using an HSV flesh colored histogram to get the contours of the hand. is there a way to separate them, i just need the hand. also if the picture includes only a hand and some part of the arm. How can we isolate the palm itself from the rest of the picture. all we need is a clear center of the palm. thanks in advanced.

  What tools are you guys using for XPath and why? Right now I'm using SketchPath because its totally awesome, but its a windows app that needs to be installed WhiteBeam online XPath test bedbecause you can test expressions from the website SketchPath seems to stand out the most to me because it actually helps you create the xpath and it is very advanced. If you haven't tried it you should. Cons to SketchPath: you have to install it on the machine, otherwise it is fantastic. Cons to WhiteBeam: you have to upload your file which I don't always want to do for security reasons and the file size you can upload has some limit on it, and uploading a file is annoying anyways. Also I think there might be some subtle differences between the xpath used for that tool and when running a .NET app. But don't remember any right now. Just keep it in mind.

I am looking for following kinds of features: The tool should tell me how many time a given log statement or a stack trace has occurred, preferably with support for some kinds of patterns (eg. number of log statements matching 'User [a-z]* logged in'). Breakdowns by log level (how many INFO, DEBUG lines) and by class that initiated the log message would be nice. Breakdown by date (how many log statements in given time period) What log lines occur commonly together?
