• Matlab and MrVista

  I'm new to MATLAB and mrVista. I'm running Matlab Version 7.8.0.347 (R2009a) 32-bit(win32) from February 12, 2009 OS is Windows 7 Professional I downloaded the most recent MrVista_hourly.zip and extracted it into my C:\Program_Files_(x86)\MATLAB directory. I think I need to run mrvInstall, but when I do, I get the following: EDU>> mrvInstall Checking VISATSOFT installation. Windows, 32-bit, installation Checking and possibly installing .NET framework. This can take several minutes Checking for visualization library (.dll) files. You are missing msvcp70.dll. So, I'm completely lost at this point. Do I just need to download msvcp70.dll from the net? If so, is there a safe place to download it from? If there's some other way I'm supposed to get mrVista to work from MATLAB, instead of mrvInstall, please let me know that. Thanks in advance for your help. EDIT: I've downloaded and installed the dll and still isn't working. I'll go ask on Super User. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

  Hello, how made with JavaScript+PHP+MYSQL and Google Maps API v2 dynamic load of markers? atm I have map follow example http://googlemapsapi.martinpearman.co.uk/infusions/google_maps_api/basic_page.php?map_id=8 but my marker_data_01.php (where are all markers listed - look code of example) have atm 4MB and will only have more, and more. So the question is: how load only this markers to marker_data_01.php (of some other modification of it, can be on same file as map, meaningless, I load it all from MySQL atm) what I look now: so for example (I dont know what number will good but I write this only for show what I wanna made OR JUST something like it), so top left corner for example have position: 10, top right corner for example have position: 30, bottom left corner for example have position: 5, bottom right corner for example have position: 15. -- so load only this markers what are in this box 10-30-5-15 with for example GET, and when I move map for example to 17-12-48-20 box then made next GET request and with this mysql quote and download next markers that what I see now, with this I can have map with unlimited markers, and when will be a lot of markers then clustering can link them, so with this ppl dont will need do "preload" of all markers DB (what have 4mb now and will have more), but only download that what they see at the moment, I know that is possible because a lot sites have it but I am not master of code langs, I know only a bit php and mysql (and html) :) // sorry for my english

• jQuery server ping slowly but surely filling memory?

  I use the following piece of code to test if our server is running whilst the user is in a page. I've also started adding other functions that grab small amounts of data that are constantly changing and are to be relayed to the user (Files waiting for download, messages, reports etc). I've noticed recently that if I leave any page open (all pages contain the same function), the browser takes up more and more system memory which I can only attribute to this regular task (overnight it reached 1.6 gb). Is there some way of clearing out the data that is being accumulated? Is this normal behaviour? • Ivy failed to resolve dependency : What to check, what to do ?

  Hi everyone, I'm using Ivy to resolve dependency in my very small project. It's the first time I'm doing that and it's more to learn as my project is very small. I had a problem 5 minutes ago, when trying to download log4j. • Why do I get "Error 6060" when I try to use DBD::Advantage with a 64-bit perl on Linux?

  I realize that I am attempting to go beyond the "supported" behavior of the manf's released drivers for Perl, after all they have only released it in package with x86 .so's. However, since I cannot use their package with x64 Perl on a RHEL 5.4 x86_64 box, and maintaining a seperate install of x86 Perl just for this one package, I have made an attempt to get this puppy working thanks to released 64-bit .so's that accompany other driver packages for Advantage. What I have done to this point: download beta 10 DBI drivers, in 32 download beta 10 PHP extension (it contains 32 and x86_64) copy the required DLLs into the ads-lib location (eg /usr/local/ads/lib64) compile the Perl DBI driver with the path to the lib64's .so's Good compilation, good install, good use. The problem is that I always get : failed: [iAnywhere Solutions][Advantage SQL][ASA] Error 6060: Advantage Database Server not available on specified server. axServerConnect (SQL-HY000)(DBD: db_login/SQLConnect err=-1) Does anyone have any ideas? EDIT: fixed package name in post title EDIT: Updated title. It appears that it's not just the x64 perl, but the RHEL 5.4 underneath that may be interfering. As commented below, I managed to shoe-horn a x86 perl onto the system, and compile the DBD::Advantage 9.99, and later replacing that with 9.10, and none of these x86 would connect either. Neither library (9.99 or 9.10) in either bit-edness will connect from this x86_64 server to the windows server's UNC path. I have successfully mounted this share without problems, but still I cannot seem to connect to the 9.1. I have tried: \hostname\PATH \FQDN\PATH \IP\PATH and all of these variations with the port (default) 6262 included. My windows machine connects fine, with both 9.1 and 9.99 from strawberry perl.

• Good mobile oriented GWT widget library alternatives

  I've been developing a travel planning site - tripgrep.com - which is built on appengine, GWT and smartgwt, among other technologies. It is still early days, and the site is now working well on my development environment, which is either a windows or mac computer. However, I am frequently talking up the website to my friends when we are at a bar or other venue, so I am standing there while they try to access the site via an iPhone, Android or Blackberry - I've witnessed all three. It has been painfully obvious that the browser based frontend takes a long time to download on a mobile device. I am pretty sure this is because of the javascript download for SmartGWT. So, I would like to look at alternatives to SmartGWT. What I like about SmartGWT is that it has a reasonable look and feel out of the box - I don't need to learn any design or css and it has an office application look. This is considerably better than the GWT built-in widgets, which just get a blue border. The better look-and-feel is why I went with SmartGWT early on. However, the slow load times are killing me on these mobile demos. So now I want a fast loading widget alternative that has good look-and-feel out of the box. The features I care about are: tabs, good form layout, Google maps API integration, grid data viewing. If those are all available in a library that loads quickly on a mobile device, then that's the library I want.

Which plugin I should use to develop a Swing based application? Most of them seems not up-to-dated.   In the App ID section of the Program Portal, locate the App ID you wish to use with the Apple Push Notification service. Only App IDs with a specific bundle ID can be used with the APNs. You cannot use a “wild-card” application ID. You must see “Available” under the Apple Push Notification service column to register this App ID and configure a certificate for this App ID. Click the ‘Configure’ link next to your desired App ID. In the Configure App ID page, check the Enable Push Notification Services box and click the Configure button. Clicking this button launches the APNs Assistant, which guides you through the next series of steps that create your App ID specific Client SSL certificate. Download the Client SSL certificate file to your download location. Navigate to that location and double-click the certificate file (which has an extension of cer) to install it in your keychain. When you are finished, click Done in the APNS Assistant. Double-clicking the file launches Keychain Access. Make sure you install the certificate in your login keychain on the computer you are using for provider development. The APNs SSL certificate should be installed on your notification server. When you finish these steps you are returned to the Configure App ID page of the iPhone Dev Center portal. The certificate should be badged with a green circle and the label “Enabled”. To complete the APNs set-up process, you will need to create a new provisioning profile containing your APNs-enabled App ID. IS it posssible to do theses steps through code.

  Hi, I’m using Visual Studio 2010 with .NET 4 and Entity Framework 4. I’m working with POCO Classes and not the EF4 Generator. I need to overwrite the Equals() and GetHashCode() Method but that doesn’t really work. Thought it’s something everybody does but I don’t find anything about the problem Online. When I write my own Classes and Equals Method, I use Equals() of property’s, witch need to be loaded by EF to be filled. Like this: public class Item { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual String Name { get; set; } public virtual List<UserItem> UserItems { get; set; } public virtual ItemType ItemType { get; set; } public override bool Equals(object obj) { Item item = obj as Item; if (obj == null) { return false; } return item.Name.Equals(this.Name) && item.ItemType.Equals(this.ItemType); } public override int GetHashCode() { return this.Name.GetHashCode() ^ this.ItemType.GetHashCode(); } } That Code doesn’t work, the problems are in Equals and GetHashCode where I try to get HashCode or Equal from “ItemType” . Every time I get a NullRefernceException if I try to get data by Linq2Entites. A dirty way to fix it, is to capture the NullReferenceException and return false (by Equals) and return base.GetHashCode() (by GethashCode) but I hope there is a better way to fix this problem. Wish that the documentation would anticipate common questions and be written more clearly.

• NetworkStream.Read delay .Net

  I have a class that inherits from TcpClient. In that class I have a method to process responses. In that method I call I get the NetworkStream with MyBase.GetStream and call Read on it. This works fine, excpet the first call to read blocks too long. And by too long I mean that the socket has recieved plenty of data, but won't read it until some arbitrary limit is reached. I can see that it has recieved plenty of data using the packet sniffer WireShark. I have set the recieve buffer to small amounts, and very small amounts (like just a few bytes) to no avail. I have done the same with the buffer byte array I pass to the read method, and it still delays. Or to put it another way. I am download 600k. The download takes 5 seconds (at a little over 100k/second connection to the server which makes sense). The initial Read call takes 2-3 seconds and tells me only 256 bytes are availble (256 is the Recieve buffer and the size of the array I read in to). Then magically, the other few hundred thousand bytes can be read in 256 byte chunks in only a few process ticks each. Using a packet sniffer, I know that during those initial 2-3 seconds, the socket has recieved much more than just 256 bytes. My connection wasn't .25k/second for 3 seconds and then 400k for 2 seconds. How do I get the bytes from a socket as they come in?

• Google Reader API - feed/[FEEDURL]/ is coming back as Not found

  There is one feed I'm subscribed to which always turns up as NOT FOUND when I try to use the API. I return an array of Dictionaries, containing 3 objects. The first in the list represents the user himself, like so: { FeedID = "user/MY_UNIQUE_NUMBER/state/com.google/reading-list"; Timestamp = 1273448807271463; Unread = 59; } The Unread count is very important. My client depends on downloading 59 items from Google before it refreshes. If a feed doesn't download properly, the count is off and the client won't update. An example of a working Feed is here: { FeedID = "feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx"; Timestamp = 1273447158484528; Unread = 13; } The FeedID value combines with a specially formatted URL string and gives back a list of articles. The above example works fine. However, the following feed always returns NOT FOUND on Google, and if I paste the URL verbatim into a browser, it never turns up. • Extracting a .app from a zip file in Python, using ZipFile

  I'm trying to extract new revisions of Chromium.app from their snapshots, and I can download the file fine, but when it comes to extracting it, ZipFile either extracts the chrome-mac folder within as a file, says that directories don't exist, etc. I am very new to python, so these errors make little sense to me. • Am I using handlers in the wrong way?

  Hey, I've never used HTTP Handlers before, and I've got one working, but I'm not sure if I'm actually using it properly. I have generated a string which will be saved as a CSV file. When the user clicks a button, I want the download dialog box to open so that the user can save the file. What I have works, but I keep reading about modifying the web.config file and I haven't had to do that. • How to loop a video in Flash

  I'm looking for a web based, embeddable file manager. I haven't found anything suitable through Google or the Stack Overflow archives. Does anyone know of a file manager that meets the following criteria? The file manager must… …be embeddable (e.g. Flash or a Java applet) …run from my server (no storing uploads in a remote location) …be licensed for business use (fees are okay) …let me disable uploads. Users shouldn't be able to upload files, only download them …allow me to tag files and/or place them in folders …let me disable authentication or handle it from the backend. • Api/plugins for open source libraries?

  whenever i use a open source library eg. Doctrine i always ending up coding a class (so called Facade) to use the Doctrine library. so next time i want to create a user i just type: $fields = array('name' => 'peter', 'email' => '[email protected]'); Doctrine_Facade::create_entity($entity, $fields); then it creates an entity with the provided information. so i guess, all coders will create their own "Facade". i wonder how usual it is with open source Facades to download and interact with the open source libraries? is this rare cause i haven't seen any of these. in some frameworks i have seen them called plugins, eg. plugins for twitter api or facebook api. so whenever you download a library, should you search for plugins/facades on the net, or is it better to just try coding your own? i just thought it would be great for everyone not to reinvent the wheel. thanks.

• Suggestions on implementing an iPad magazine app

  I've been tasked with creating a magazine style app for iPad. Ideally it would look a little something like the Zinio app: http://www.zinio.com/ipad/ . This app is effectively a shell, allowing you to sample magazines (eg. read the first few pages) and select them for download. The magazines appear to have some sort of overlay, allowing you to interact with some things (eg. tap to watch a video). A few questions that come to mind: How would I go about delivering content to the user? In-app purchases aren't really an option, as some content will need to be delivered for free. Is it possible to download a package and make this available within the application? What format would be suitable for displaying the magazine? Sequential images, PDF, ebook? I'll need to have some form of interactivity. I guess I could have some form of lookup table, which would include information such as if the user taps on this page, within these coordinates, then launch this item. Anyone dealt with any similar issues?

• Downloading a picture via urllib and python.

  So I'm trying to make a Python script that downloads webcomics and puts them in a folder on my desktop. I've found a few similar programs on here that do something similar, but nothing quite like what I need. The one that I found most similar is right here (http://bytes.com/topic/python/answers/850927-problem-using-urllib-download-images). I tried using this code: >>> import urllib >>> image = urllib.URLopener() >>> image.retrieve("http://www.gunnerkrigg.com//comics/00000001.jpg","00000001.jpg") ('00000001.jpg', <httplib.HTTPMessage instance at 0x1457a80>) I then searched my computer for a file "00000001.jpg", but all I found was the cached picture of it. I'm not even sure it saved the file to my computer. Once I understand how to get the file downloaded, I think I know how to handle the rest. Essentially just use a for loop and split the string at the '00000000'.'jpg' and increment the '00000000' up to the largest number, which I would have to somehow determine. Any reccomendations on the best way to do this or how to download the file correctly? Thanks!

• How to speed up an already cached pip install?

  I frequently have to re-create virtual environments from a requirements.txt and I am already using $PIP_DOWNLOAD_CACHE. It still takes a lot of time and I noticed the following: Pip spends a lot of time between the following two lines: Downloading/unpacking SomePackage==1.4 (from -r requirements.txt (line 2)) Using download cache from $HOME/.pip_download_cache/cached_package.tar.gz Like ~20 seconds on average to decide it's going to use the cached package, then the install is fast. This is a lot of time when you have to install dozens of packages (actually enough to write this question). What is going on in the background? Are they some sort of integrity checks against the online package? Is there a way to speed this up? edit: Looking at: time pip install -v Django==1.4 I get: real 1m16.120s user 0m4.312s sys 0m1.280s The full output is here http://pastebin.com/e4Q2B5BA. Looks like pip is spending his time looking for a valid download link while it already has a valid cache of http://pypi.python.org/packages/source/D/Django/Django-1.4.tar.gz. Is there a way to look for the cache first and stop there if versions match?

  I am developing a win32 windows application with Delphi and MS SQL Server. it works fine in LAN but I am trying to add the support for SQL Server remote connections (= working with a DB that can be accessed with an external IP, as described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277). Basically I have a Table in DB where I keep the DocumentID, the document description and the Document path (like \FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip). Of course \FILESERVER is a local (LAN) path for the server but not for the client (as I am now trying to add the support for remote connections). So I need a way to access \FILESERVER even if of course I cannot see it in LAN. I found the following T-SQL code snippet that is perfect for the "download trick": SELECT BulkColumn as MyFile FROM OPENROWSET(BULK '\FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip' , SINGLE_BLOB) AS X With the code above I can download a file on the client. But how to upload it? I need an "Uppload trick" to be able to insert new files, but also to delete or replace existing files. Can anyone suggest? If a trick is not available could you suggest an alternative? Like an extended stored procedure or calling some .net assembly from the server.
