  • Conditional `mount` in Linux: dev or nfs

    I have a mount point — let it be /media/question — and two possible devices: a physical HDD and a remote NFS folder. Sometimes I plug the device in physically, in other cases I mount it via NFS. Is there a way to specify both of them in fstab so that executing mount /media/question will preferably choose physical volume, and when it's not available — NFS?

  • Does javascript event handling occur inside or outside the program flow?

    This question is related to Javascript event handling and flow control, but it is one step beyond. The question that remains unanswered is: when an event is fired and control is returned to the browser, could the browser decide to handle other events first (fired by other scripts or user action) (A), or will it always handle my event directly (B)? The question is important, because in case (B) you can rely on the fact that nothing has been changed between firing the event and the event handler, while (A) gives no guarantees whatsoever. My first guess is (B), how else could stopPropagation() and preventDefault() work? But giving it a second thought, it is no hard evidence.

  • jQuery Click event on object added with JavaScript not working.

    I'm work on a quiz for school but I've bumped into a problem. I got a javascript file for custom radio buttons (CUSTOM FORM ELEMNTS by Ryan Fait if it's helping). The script hides the input buttons and adds custom styled spans instead. Now what I want, when I click one of these JavaScript added spans I want to remove disabled for a button called "Next Question" which when pressed takes you to the next question. The reason for this is that I don't want people to accidently got to the next question without choosing a answer. The problem is when I press the added spans nothing happens but when I press another identical span which I have added in the html it works just as intended. The span got the class radio which is the class I'm looking for in the jQuery.   • NetBios Name Service requests

    I'm noticing on MS Network Monitor a ton of NetBios Name Service broadcasts coming from a particular workstation. When I run netmon on that desktop it cannot resolve the application producing them (but does log them). First question, is this bad? Next question, what could be causing this so we can either move it to a server or stop it entirely?

  • Are QR codes guaranteed to work?

    Not sure if this will get closed as "not a real question" but I asked this on Superuser and it was closed for that very reason. We are thinking of implementing a QR code which will be sent to a number of users via an email which links through to a webpage. Now I'm aware that you can just Google 'QR codes' and there are a plethora of options that allow you to make a QR code. My question is thus; if we do go with this solution can we guarantee that it would work cross platform? I.e. on Android, iOS, Symbian etc? Once a QR code is generated will it work on ANY app on ANY platform? Thanks and apologies if this is not really a 'programming question' Thanks Kiran

    Question from a first-time Jenkins user. So I hope you wouldn't mind if the question is too silly. I have installed jenkins on a Ubuntu machine, and is accessible at localhost:8080. I have successfully configured it to work with Maven2 and Git as well. Next, I created a job/project (A Java/Spring application), and got it to build without error on Jenkins as well. I'm a bit of an organizational freak with my data and I currently have two separate hard drives I want to mirror. The new motherboard I'm looking to buy supports Raid, so my question is this: a) can I have more than one Raid 1 array in a single system? b) would I have to buy a separate controller for the second array?

As I'm a college student, I'm creating this for an assignment but we are forced to use as3 classes. When I run the code in the maintimeline, there is no problem.   • R: Converting a list of data frames into one data frame

    I have code that at one place ends up with a list of data frames which I really want to convert to a single big data frame. I got some pointers from an earlier question which was trying to do something similar but more complex. Here's an example of what I am starting with (this is grossly simplified for illustration): listOfDataFrames <- NULL for (i in 1:100) { listOfDataFrames[[i]] <- data.frame(a=sample(letters, 500, rep=T), b=rnorm(500), c=rnorm(500)) } I am currently using this: df <- do.call("rbind", listOfDataFrames) *EDIT* whoops. In my haste to implement what I had "learned" in a previous question I totally screwed up. Yes, the unlist() is just plain wrong. I'm editing that out of the question above.

  • Sockets: RAW or STREAM

    May be the question is a bit stupid, but I'll ask it. I read a lot about raw sockets in network, have seen several examples. So, basically with raw sockets it's possible to build own stack of headers, like stack = IP + TCP/UDP + OWN_HEADER. My question is, is it possible to get some kind of ready frame of first two(IP + TCP/UDP) from the linux kernel and then just append own header to them? The operating system in question is linux and the language is C. I cannot find any function which can do such a thing, but may be I'm digging in a wrong direction.

  • What are the performance characteristics of SignalR at scale?

    I'm interested in the performance characteristics of SignalR at scale ... particularly, how it behaves at the fringes of capability. When a server is at capacity, what happens? Does it drop messages? Do some clients not get notified? Are messages queued until all are delivered? And if so, will the queue eventually overflow and crash the server? I ask because conducting such a test myself would be impractical, and I'm hoping someone could point me to documentation speaking to this ... or perhaps someone could comment that has seen how SignalR behaves at scale. Thanks! note: I'm familiar with this other stackoverflow question on the stability and scalability of SignalR. But I believe my question is asking a slightly different question in that I'm not concerned with the theoretical scaling limits, I want to know how it behaves when it reaches the limits ... so I know what to be on the lookout for.

  • Setting up Mac OSX build server for multiple users?

    Hello, I need to set up a OS X build server (Xcode for iOS development). Now the tricky part is, this server will be used in a university environment and many students will have access to it for different projects. How can I set it up so that each student's project is private to them only, keep the server itself protected from students and enable students to access and build remotely.
