• Trouble running multiple Firefox versions on OS X Lion

  I am trying to use two versions of Firefox (11 and 13) on OS X Lion. I don't especially want to run two versions at the same time. I want to be able to run the version 11 when I choose the version 11 via the profile manager. The same for the version 13. Every time, I want to launch the version 11, the launcher launches the version 13... When I select the version 11 via the profile manager, Firefox 13 is launched. I created 2 automators apps (FF11.app and FF13.app) to launch Firefox : /Applications/Firefox11.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -no-remote -P FF11 & /dev/null & /Applications/Firefox13.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -no-remote -P FF13 & /dev/null & Any help would be greatly appreciated.   "Deshaking" means fixing the video captured from camera hold in hands. Is there open source video deshaker apart from y4mstabilizer from mjpegtools? Patch for mencoder is preferred. My current command line for processing video looks like: mplayer video_from_camera.avi -nosound -vo yuv4mpeg:file=/dev/stdout -really-quiet | y4mstabilizer -n -a 0.8 -r 30 -s 100 | mplayer -cache 1000 /dev/stdin -noconsolecontrols -vf crop=500:380:70:50,denoise3d=3:3:5:5 -vo yuv4mpeg:file=temporary.yuv y4mstabilizer is itself very unstable and often crashes (and it didn't work at all until I have patched memory allocation in it).

  I was directed to post here, I started on Stackoverflow.... I'm trying to use 'sdd' on my Debian system, and can't get one set of options to work. They do work in 'dd' so I am wondering if I am specifying them incorrectly, or if sdd didn't implement them, or something else. What I want to do is sdd if=/dev/hdh1 of=/bay5/imagebay1 bs=4096 conv=sync,noerror if I leave out the "conv=..." option, it works, or at least starts copying data. sdd if=/dev/hdh1 of=/bay5/imagebay1 bs=4096 Can you shed a bit of light?

• Unreadable sectors reported by smartd, is it serious?

  I have a RAID 5 array of 4 disks. In the last 2 days I began to see these messages in the log: Jun 13 23:01:05 localhost smartd[4537]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors Jun 13 23:01:05 localhost smartd[4537]: Device: /dev/sdb [SAT], 2 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors If I have 2 faulty disks then the array should not show all disks OK: md0 : active raid1 sdd1[3] sdb1[1] sdc1[2] sda1[0] 64128 blocks [4/4] [UUUU] Strangely there are no other problems just the log messages. I am worried because sda is new and I previously had problems with sdb. (Completely died but the guy who sold it to me fixed it somehow.) Am I in danger of losing data? What should I do now?

  I executed the following command from a Ubuntu live cd terminal (dont ask why). dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb2 bs=512 count=1 Where sdb2 is a NTFS partition (third partition) on a disk. Suffice to say it is now messed up. When I boot into windows 7, it does show me E drive but when I click on it it asks me to format it. I am not ever sure what I did, did I mess up partition table or only the MFT? Is there any way to get the data back PLEASE HELP! this is very important :(

• Linux virtual disk stripping or multi-path samba share?

  I am trying to build a file storage box for media. It needs to span two or more directories or partitions as one share. There are a few solutions but reasons why I want to avoid them, among these are: Using LVM2 for stripping. I don't really have the resources to back up everything on the volumes incase one HDD goes south. I would end up loosing everything. Maybe there is a better option for this to prevent data loss with hot swappable drives or some kind of raid. Using symbolic links in the share. This will get tedious every time a new sub-directory is added. Is there some kind of software raid I can use to merge two directories virtually? I am aware of the issue where /dev/hda1/media/file.1 and /dev/hdb1/media/file.1 both exist. But I'm sure there are some creative solutions for this.

• Keeping the wireless connected.

  I’m running OpenBSD on a computer which is connected via wireless to the network. It is a well supported NIC and I’ve had no problems with it from a hardware perspective. Unfortunately my wireless access point occasionally loves to forget it’s settings. I then have to help it remember. However, in this intervening time my OpenBSD box drops the connection and then does not automatically reconnect. I have alleviated my problems by running this simple script in the background: #!/bin/sh while [ 1 ] do ping -c1 192.168.1.254 > /dev/null if [ $? = 1 ] then sh /etc/netstart ral0 > /dev/null fi sleep 30 done [Ping the access point. If there is no response attempt to reconnect.] It seems to me to be a very suboptimal solution. Has anyone else come across a better way?

  I have setup a proxy for a site which works with the following nginx config: server { listen 80; server_name proxy.example.com; access_log /dev/null; error_log /dev/null; location / { proxy_pass http://thepiratebay.se; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; } } However on this there are also styles loaded from a subdomain (static.thepiratebay.se) which aren't going through my proxy, because it links to the original domain. Is there a way to also let those requests go to my proxy? Do I have to change the contents of the pages when serving it to let them also go through my proxy? If so: how? :) Or is there another (perhaps better) way?

  This is a recurring problem for some reason... Using mysql 5.5, I am simply trying to create a user that can connect to the database remotely, have access to all databases, and create databases. I have created a user using: create user 'dev'@'%' identified by 'abcdefg'; then granted all permissions using: GRANT ALL ON *.* to 'dev'@'192.168.%' IDENTIFIED BY 'abcdefg' WITH GRANT OPTION; and the result is that the user cannot create databases, and can only see information_schema database for some reason. • Virtual Box start from dual boot systme

  So for a long time now, I've been running Linux on a dual boot system with Windows 7. I don't run Windows very often, however it happens enough now that I started looking at alternatives to reboots. A friend showed me Parallels on his Mac, and I fell in love with the concept of Virtual machines. Since Sun has been in the Unix space since the beginning of time, they likely have the best solution for Linux (big assumption I know). Anyway, to avoid re-installing windows, as I have it set up the way I like it now, I was wondering if there was a way to point to the existing install and boot from that point. Linux is installed on /dev/sda Windows is on /dev/sdb Having never done this before a little handholding would be great as to what step I should take. Thanks for any help in advance!

  I used to be able to type 127.0.0.1 (or my network IP 10.10.53.32) and it would resolve to my "default" virtual host. 127.0.0.1/~Shanimal and shanimal.dev both resolve to their appropriate folders. localhost and 127.0.0.1 give me a 404 - "Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server."   Hi! I've updated from 9.10 to 10.04 but unfortunately the PHP provided with 10.04 is not yet supported by zend optimizer. As far as I understand I need to somehow replace the PHP 5.3 package provided under 10.04 with an older PHP 5.2 package provided under 9.10. However I am not sure whether this is the right way to downgrade PHP and if yes, I don't know how to replace the 10.04 package with 9.10 package. Could you please help me with that?

• Pinned program on the taskbar is not grouping in Windows 7 Ultimate

  Previously, I had pinned Google Chrome Dev to the taskbar. Being that it was unstable and crashed frequently, I decided to uninstall it. Before uninstalling, however, I did not un-pin its icon from the taskbar. Afterward, I installed Google Chrome Stable and launched it from the old pinned icon. This resulted in a new icon appearing in the taskbar. I figured this happened because the icon was originally for the Dev build, so I unpinned the icon and re-pinned Google Chrome. I launch Google Chrome again, but I still get a new icon! Re-pinning the icon should have fixed it, no? Why aren't my Google Chrome windows grouping together?

• How should a small team using multiple OS's deploy over github?

  We have a small development team that have recently moved to using github to host our projects. The team consists of three developers, 2 on Windows and 1 on Mac. I am currently researching the best way to deploy applications to our Linux servers (dev and production). Capistrano running locally would be ideal but from what I read this won't work for Windows machines. It looks like the best way is to use a post-receive hook in github, I can see how this would work for auto deploying to dev, but I don't see how we could then deploy to live. I have found paid projects like http://www.deployhq.com/ but it feels like something that a quick bit of code should be able to do for free, I just can't seem to get myself pointed in the right direction! I was wondering what would be considered best practice for small team deployment involving multiple local OS's and github.

  I am mostly using 'git-bash' which came with the Windows install of Git vcs. I think it is the same one that comes with Cygwin. It works fine technically but the UI sucks: have to right-click the title bar and go to Properties to change the window width most annoyingly... copy and paste and highlight with the mouse are equally cumbersome In contrast, the Terminal app that comes with OS X manages these with aplomb and makes it so much more comfortable to work with. You can even drag and drop a file on it and it will paste the file path in at your cursor! I have also tried: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win-bash http://www.steve.org.uk/Software/bash/ http://www.hamiltonlabs.com/cshell.htm None of these do copy and paste of text without cumbersome right-clicking. I am specifically looking for a Unix-flavoured shell in Windows so I don't have to use different shells between my home dev (Windows), the live server (Linux) or dev at the office (Mac). Yes I have Googled and haven't found one yet...

• Possible to run system-config-network during %post kickstart?

  Hello, I'm currently trying to figure out a smart way to set IP, hostname, gateway and DNS settings during a kickstart (with user input during the kickstart). Doing this with firstboot after the install is not acceptable, so this must be done during %post. I've tried to run the system-config-network tool during post in tty6: #!/bin/sh chvt 6 exec < /dev/tty6 > /dev/tty6 /usr/bin/system-config-network-tui This doesn't work since for some reason I'm unable to catch user input. I would prefer to use built in tools to change this during post, rather than write my own bash script to do this, since using the provided tools is less likely to break anything. Does someone done anything like this or similar, and made it work? Thanks
