  • Configuring Quercus to talk to JavaDB

    I am trying to get the Quercus PHP engine to connect with the JavaDB. I have successfully deployed Quercus in Glassfish, but I can't get Quercus to successfully connect with my database in JavaDB. Can anyone point me to an article or tutorial that treats this subject?

    I have written larger article about GUI programming explaining why i want to design a new GUI library. Which Website (Programming Forum) would you recommand for posting and discussing. Something like SlashDot. Unfortunately they focus on IT news and not programming and i'm not aware of anything which comes even "slightly close to the volumne of SlashDot readers.   • c# Windows Service not appearing in services list after install

    I've created a windows service in c#, using Visual Studio 2008 I pretty much followed this: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/simplewindowsservice.aspx I created a setup project, as instructed to in the article, and ran it... it installs my service to c:\program files\product etc.... however, it does not then appear in the services list.. What am i missing?

  • NSObject release destroys local copy of object's data

    I know this is something stupid on my part but I don't get what's happening. I create an object that fetches data & puts it into an array in a specific format, since it fetches asynchronously (has to download & parse data) I put a delegate method into the object that needs the data so that the data fetching object copies it's formatted array into an array in the calling object. I thought self.imagesDataSource = [ImagesParserObject.returnedArray copy]; is supposed to make an independant object, like as if it was alloc, init'ed, so that self.imagesDataSource is not just a pointer to the parser's array but is it's own array. So why does the release of the parser object clear the copy of the array. (I checked & double checked that it's not something overwriting self.imagesDataSource, commenting out [imagesParserObject release] consistently fixes the problem) Also, I have exactly the same problem with self.detailDataSource which is declared & populated in the exact same way as self.imagesDataSource I thought that once I call the parser I could release it because the caller no longer needs to refer to it, all further activity is carried out by the parser object through it's delegate method, what am I doing wrong?

    Getters and Setters are bad Briefly reading over the above article I find that getters and setters are bad OO design and should be avoided as they go against Encapsulation and Data Hiding. As this is the case how can it be avoided when creating objects and how can one model objects to take this into account.   • After writing SQL statements in MySQL, how to measure the speed / performance of them?

    I saw something from an "execution plan" article: 10 rows fetched in 0.0003s (0.7344s) How come there are 2 durations shown? What if I don't have large data set yet. For example, if I have only 20, 50, or even just 100 records, I can't really measure how faster 2 different SQL statements compare in term of speed in real life situation? In other words, there needs to be at least hundreds of thousands of records, or even a million records to accurately compares the performance of 2 different SQL statements?

  • Will this force a reinitialize in Merge Replication Topology?

    I need to add a couple of columns to a table that is a part of a replication set. It is not a constraint coulumn or a part of any article filters and it allows NULL. I have a pretty good idea that I can run this -- ALTER TABLE tblPlanDomain ADD ReportWageES VARCHAR (100) NULL and NOT force all my clients to reinitialize but I was hoping for some reassurance.
