  • ASP.Net Session Timing Out Rapidly

    We have an ASP.Net 3.5 website running on Windows Server 2008 with IIS7. The session timeout period for this site is configured to be 20 minutes - however, it is currently lasting for between 40 and 50 seconds. After researching the problem we investigated several configuration values which could be involved in the timeout period but none of them are set to less than 20 minutes. The areas we look are as follows: web.config system.web/sessionState element (20 minutes). web.config system.web/authentication/forms element (not present, defaults to 30 minutes). Sites/{website}/ASP/Session Properties/Time-out (20 minutes). Application Pools/{appPool}/Advanced Settings/Process Model/Idle Time-out (20 minutes). We've also noted that the CPU is staying around 0% and that RAM usage is flat-lining around 1.07 GB (of 8 GB available) - so there is no performance-based reason for IIS to be recycling the Application Pool as far as we can tell. Are there any settings we've overlooked which could cause the session timeouts to be expiring so quickly? EDIT A couple of additional points: This is not occurring in development, only on the server. The session is not sliding (i.e. if we refresh the page a few times it still times out approximately 40 - 50 seconds after the session was created.

However, I have heared that there is something you can do to make the interpreter does not see the whitespace at all and does not even think to avoid it, the same for the compiler in ASP.NET. What is that thing? Is it a function in PHP and a class in ASP.NET? or what exactly? Edit: For example the php_strip_whitespace function in PHP "Returns the PHP source code in filename with PHP comments and whitespace removed". Will this help in load time?

  • Custom file extensions as ASP.NET in IIS?

    I have Apache 2.2, and it's got modaspdotnet installed - the 2.2 version. I followed the advice at Configuring ASP.NET MVC2 on Apache 2.2 using mod_aspdotnet, and the server works basically very well. However, I'm trying to create custom extensions (e.g. file.customname, instead of file.aspx), similar to how Apache/PHP/htaccess can handle this. (I think it's mod_rewrite or .htaccess, forgotten which now!) What would I do to get these custom file types (all serving .NET files) working? The extensions are given custom names by me, simply for testing purposes This is a tourism site [a testing one, btw], and it's working OK on localhost for basic pages, but I wanted to know how to do this. How would I go about this? I've had a look on Google etc. but custom HTTP handlers was all I could really find! Thanks

  • Why does IIS refuse to serve ASP.NET content?

    My Windows Server 2003 Std server refuses to server ASP.NET content. It serves regular html just fine but anything .net, even a one line html file with an ASPX extention fails silently. Things I've tried: Nothing in the event log or IIS WWW logs when it fails. Fiddler shows no response I reinstalled .NET with C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -U C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -I I give obscenely high permissions on everything I can think of (full control, read, write, etc.) to all possibly relevant users (IUSER*, ASP.NET, etc.). I confirmed that ASP.Net v1 and v2 Web Service Extensions are "allowed" in IIS Confirmed that the Server Manager had IIS and ASP.Net roles enabled Again: this is the scenario: http://localhost/Test/Default.htm <-- Works great! http://localhost/Test/Default.aspx <-- Bombs silently with no message at all Any guidance will be much appreciated! Solution: I reinstalled per the instructions below and it works now. Thanks all!

  • LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression not working anymore in .Net 4 / VS 2010 ?

    Hi, I recently migrating my ASP.Net MVC 1 application from VS.Net 2008 / C# 3.5 to VS.NET 2010 / C# 4.0. I massively used a builder to get URL strings from the strongly typed calls. It looks like this : // sample call : string toSamplePage = Url.To<SampleController>(c => c.Page(parameter1, parameter2)); the code is added as an extension to the default UrlHelper : public static string To<Tcontroller>(UrlHelper helper, Expression<Action<Tcontroller>> action) where Tcontroller : Controller { // based on Microsoft.Web.Mvc.dll LinkBuilder return LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression<Tcontroller>(helper.RequestContext, helper.RouteCollection, action); } The only problem of this, is the reference to Microsoft.Web.Mvc dll, but the gain in readability was worth it. Problem : it does not work anymore, return (null) whatever the parameters. Questions : is there a better way now to build links from an expression ? (yes I tried to google it without success) is there a trick to have the former LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression works ? I tried to recompile it into C# 4.0, but the problem is that it implies working on my own compilated version of System.Web.Mvc which is not an option. I'm currently trying to migrate to MVC 2 but I still have issues... Waiting for your suggestions...

  • Silverlight 3 Dynamic DataGrid RowStyle Ignored

    I subclassed the standard DataGrid into SpecialDataGrid so I could override the KeyDown/KeyUp events. Other than that SpecialDataGrid is exactly the same as DataGrid. At run-time I dynamically create a bunch of these SpecialDataGrids. When a user clicks a row in the grid it hightlights, which is fine, but when that grid loses focus, it leaves a residual gray highlight on the last-selected row, which is not fine. I've heavily edited the RowStyle and CellStyle I'm applying to these Grids to more-or-less remove all formatting. I even added a static SpecialDataGrid to the app with test data so I could see if the RowStyle was somehow incorrect, applying the same RowStyle and CellStyle that I'm applying to the dynamically generated one (you'll see it in the code below). What I saw was that the "test grid" showed up exactly as I wanted, and the real grid is ignoring part of the RowStyle! Has anyone run into this issue or have any ideas of how to correct it?   • Duck type testing with C# 4 for dynamic objects.

    I'm wanting to have a simple duck typing example in C# using dynamic objects. It would seem to me, that a dynamic object should have HasValue/HasProperty/HasMethod methods with a single string parameter for the name of the value, property, or method you are looking for before trying to run against it. I'm trying to avoid try/catch blocks, and deeper reflection if possible. It just seems to be a common practice for duck typing in dynamic languages (JS, Ruby, Python etc.) that is to test for a property/method before trying to use it, then falling back to a default, or throwing a controlled exception. The example below is basically what I want to accomplish. If the methods described above don't exist, does anyone have premade extension methods for dynamic that will do this? Example: In JavaScript I can test for a method on an object fairly easily. //JavaScript function quack(duck) { if (duck && typeof duck.quack === "function") { return duck.quack(); } return null; //nothing to return, not a duck } How would I do the same in C#? //C# 4 dynamic Quack(dynamic duck) { //how do I test that the duck is not null, //and has a quack method? //if it doesn't quack, return null }

(it is Monday morning and for some reason this whole thing is turning out to be really hard for me to explain so I am just going to try and post a lot of my code; sorry) First, I needed a table: CREATE TABLE TICKET_INFORMATION ( TICKET_INFO_ID INT IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, TICKET_TYPE INT, TARGET_ID INT, TARGET_NAME VARCHAR(100), INFORMATION VARCHAR(MAX), TIME_STAMP DATETIME DEFAULT GETUTCDATE() ) -- insert this row for testing... This is where I am having problems. In the resulting table, Target_Name needs to become a column that holds Target_ID as a value for each row in the resulting table.     Our marketing department comes back with "active directory integration" being a key customer request, but our company does not seem to have the attention span to (1) decide on what functional changes we want to make toward this end, (2) interview a broad range of customer to identify the most requested functional changes, and (3) still have this be the "hot potato" issue next week. To help me get beyond the broad topic of "active directory integration," what does it mean in your .NET app, both ASP.NET and WinForms? Here are some sample changes I have to consider: When creating and managing users in your app, are administrators presented with a list of all AD users or just a group of AD users? When creating new security groups within your app (we call them Departments, like "Human Resources"), should this create new AD groups? Do administrators assign users to security groups within your app or outside via AD? Does it matter? Is the user signed on to your app by virtue of being signed on to Windows? If not, do you track users with your own user table and some kind of foreign key into AD? What foreign key do you use to link app users to AD users? Do you have to prove your login process protects user passwords? What foreign key do you use to link app security groups to AD security groups? If you have a WinForms component to your app (we have both ASP.NET and WinForms), do you use the Membership Provider in your WinForms app? Currently, our Membership and Role management predates the framework's version, so we do not use the Membership Provider. Am I missing any other areas of functional changes? Followup question Do apps that support "active directory integration" have the ability to authenticate users against more than one domain? Not that one user would authenticate to more than one domain but that different users of the same system would authenticate against different domains.

  • CSS Collapsing/Hiding divs with no data in <span>

    I am trying to display an address which includes the following information: Title, division, address1, address2, town/state/zip, and country (5 seperate lines worth of data). The problem is sometimes the company may only have the title, address1, and town/state/zip yet other times it may be all but address2. This is determined upon a db record request server side. Therefore how can I make my output look proper when some of my labels will be blank? I would like div's that contain an empty span to be essentially collapsed/removed. My only idea of how was to use jquery and a selector to find all divs with blank spans (since thats all an asp.net label really is) and then remove those divs however this seems like such bad form. Is there any way to do this with css?     What is the best method to obfuscate the urls created in Dynamic Data? eg \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=2 could become \Products\List.aspx?x=UHJvZHVjdElkPTI= where "ProductId=2" is base 64 encoded to prevent casual snooping on \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=3 \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=4 etc...? I will probably have to inherit from an existing object and override some function The question is which object and what function GetActionPath of the Metamodel object seems interesting, but how does the DynamicRoute "{table}/{Action}.aspx" play in into it... Right now on Asp.net 1.1 site I use an custom implementation of the following code. http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/en/code/aspnet/qse.shtml It is HTTPModule that uses regular expression to rewrite all the querystrings and also with reflection changes the Querystring collection with decoded values. So where is the hook to affect the change.

    I am attempting to use a property on my model that is of type Dictionary<string, string>. This dictionary is one of several other properties on the model, and I am using the dictionary as a key/value store to produce a 'dynamic' form. E.G.: User Name Settings A B I want to be able to submit and save any changes to settings A and B.     I've got an error page here SiteError.aspx and it's configured correctly in the web.config to go there when unhandled exceptions are encountered. I want to use this page to log the exception that triggered it as well because I only want to LOG the errors that the users encounter (i.e. if SiteError.aspx is ever hit.) This is the code I Have: In the OnLoad(...) in SiteError.aspx Exception lastEx = Context.Server.GetLastError(); if (lastEx != null) log.Error("A site error was encountered", lastEx); However, my log is never showing up in my Output, and If i breakpoint on line 2 (in this example) code execution is never interupted (after letting the exception clear to ASP.NET handling in the debugger.

    In my ASP.NET page I have to dynamically choose and load a custom control, depending on the selected value in a dropdownlist.However I encountered the following problem: When the parameters of the dynamically loaded control are changed, and then the selection in the dropdownlist is changed( thus forcing me to load a different dynamic control the next time the page reloads ), I end up with a "Cannot load ViewState" exception.I assume that this happens because the ViewState is trying to restore the parameters of the old control and it doesn't find it. So , is there any way to stop the viewstate from attempting to restore the state of the non-existig control?

    Hi all how can i implement tagging in my asp.net website using visual basic. is there any online video tutorials? or complete help of tagging and how to show older tags or give new tags to any contents. secondly i want to know how to implement cloud tagging? The say why of tagging this stake overflow is using right now. when we put the mouse on tags text box it suggest some older tags and also we can enter new tags.

    I have a very dynamic / ajax powered website which also includes iframes and due this reason I have a very bad SEO rank and it come in my mind to make one more additional version of the site (text based / no script) and serve it to the search engines based on the user agent . Please let me know if you think that is a feasible method and if it's not what else would you recommend me to do .. I don't want to loose any fancy ajax feature but I also need to keep the website on the google map :) thank you in advance for any answer ! btw the website is developed in asp.net c# .

    I read all of similar questions in SO but none seem to be an answer. Situation is simple. I have a ASP.NET webpage, In a VB code behind file I have the following line: iRendProvider = ddlProvider.SelectedItem.Value where iRendProvider is integer and ddlProvider is a dropdownlist. I put a breakpoint at the above line and code stops there. Now in the immdediate window in I type: ? ddlProvider.SelectedItem.Value I get "Expression cannot be evaluated at this time." If I step over iRendProvider = ddlProvider.SelectedItem.Value To the next line and I type ? iRendProvider , I see the correct value in the immediate window. Question is why this error and how to see contents of ddlProvider.

At the moment, I am using the HttpUtility.HtmlEncode() function, but it appears to return numbered tags instead of human-readable ones. For example: Dim str as string = HttpUtility;HtmlEncode("vente - en-tête") 'Expected: vente - en-t&ecirc;te 'Actually received: vente - en-t&#234;te Is there a setting or function in ASP.Net to encode a string into HTML resembling the first comment? EDIT: I am looking for this kind of functionality because the text is saved HTML-encoded in the database. The text comes from a bunch of MS Word documents that have been converted to HTML.
