• Bootstrapper with custom package

  I'm currently developping a bootstrapper to deploy one of my VSTO addins. I thus created a prerequisites list before compiled it with MSBuild, but I also need to test and install the otkloadr.dll fix (KB907417). In a first time I used a custom bootstrapper package, but the package directory and files must be included with my deployment if I want to use it. In fact I really want to have a very light setup kit, with only the setup.exe and the addin.msi files... Is there a way to use a custom bootstrapper package embedded into the setup.exe ? If not, is there a standard bootstrapper package which include the KB907417 fix ?

• VS2010 patce: why it's take so muce time to install it?

  Visual Studio 2010 RC has a few of patches release. For more information about them take a look here. What I'm expect from patch program, is to replace a few dll's of the program to a new fixed version of them. But when I run each of this 3 patches, they take a lot of time (5 minutes each), and you think that the program was frozen because the progress bar stay on the begging. This is question may not be so important, but it really interesting me to know, why this happens? It's really confusing to see that each VS2010 (or Microsoft in general) is frozen to 4-5 minutes.

• Avoiding Service Locator with AutoFac 2

  I'm building an application which uses AutoFac 2 for DI. I've been reading that using a static IoCHelper (Service Locator) should be avoided. Continuing down this path, I'm curious if I can completely eliminate my IoCHelper. Here is the scenario: I have a static Settings class that serves as a wrapper around my configuration implementation. Since the Settings class is a dependency to a majority of my other classes, the wrapper keeps me from having to inject the settings class all over my application. • IE performance issues with offsetHeight and offsetWidth

  I have a site that grabs the response text from an AJAX call and does 'innerHTML' on a div that is going to contain it. After I do the 'innerHTML' I process the DIV by traversing the whole hierarchy of nodes and grabbing their [offsetWidth/offsetHeight] to do some operations with it. Why not css style width/height? because sometimes those values are not available since I don't control what is coming from the AJAX response, plus I want the real box dimensions including borders/scrolls/padding. On large injections (let's say 7,000 new DOM elements) IE takes way longer time than FF/Safari just to get this [offsetWidth/offsetHeight], actually if I wasn't doing injection but just render the contents of the HTML in the browser and processing it, it would be much faster. But that is not an option since I have to inject it on a div that will contain it. Anybody has deal with this kind of issue before? is there an alternative to innerHTML, I have try using documentFragment to inject and process and the move it to the div and still I don't see much gain. How can I get the values that are available with [offsetWidth/offsetHeight]? Thanks a bunch for any suggestions. Paul

  I am currently playing with DotNetOpenAuth to make an ASP.NET (C#) website use OpenID instead of the normal login-password routine for user and session handling. Up till now, I have added the DotNetOpenAuth.dll into my project and tried a test login page with the following: <rp:OpenIdLogin ID="OpenIdLogin1" runat="server" /> When I run the page, I enter a valid myopenid url and the website redirects to the myopenid page, where I enter my password, and upon success, it returns back to my default.aspx, due to the following in my web.config: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms defaultUrl="/Default.aspx" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx"/> </authentication> Now that the user is "logged in", how can handle my session? At the moment, I don't know how I can, for example, check if the session is still alive or how to terminate the session. My basic question is, how can I manage the session once the user is authenticated with OpenID ?

• Controlling the order of PicoContainer startup

  I have been tasked with doing some refactoring work on how we start up applications. Basically we have a bunch of console apps which were depending on the GUI application startup code, causing bogus dependencies which have kick-on effects for which libraries we need to ship, and which dependencies other modules need to declare. So I have written a simple startup framework where I basically just throw a bunch of Runnable objects into a list and then run them in order - and it works. But I was thinking - we already have PicoContainer in our project, so all these things that need to be run on startup could potentially be thrown into a PicoContainer, and if they implement Startable they will start... But in some cases we want to specify the ordering between them. For example, I don't want any other component writing to the log before we write a header into the log indicating that the application is starting up. I know I can introduce ordering by introducing injection dependencies, but this feels like a hack in this case - I would need to add the log header writer as a dependency for every other component which might write to the log, which isn't great at all. Nonetheless it seems like it would be nice to control the order of PicoContainer startup, so is there perhaps some other way? Alternatively I could just keep it simple and stick to my list of Runnable. It does, after all, work.

  I am creating solution and inside I have three projects: A WCF Service Library Project A DataAccess Project (Class Library) A Web site for hosting WCF service The implementation of the service is on the project # 1, but in order to access the DataBase I use a second project that implements the data access using a class library project. That problem is in order to get data access I need to configure a connection string, but that connection string must be configurable in a production environment, I meant in production I am going to deploy the site, which is a very simple project that contains only a reference WCF Service Library Project then a guy from database department will configure the connection string. In development I have an app.config on the data access project but when I do the release that app.config is embedded on the dll. Any ideas how can we achieve our purpose

  I want to use MvcContrib Grid helper, but i stuck on the problem - it's not working. I downloaded release for mvc 1, i have dll on my hard drive, i added a reference to my project, but i always getting following error: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' does not contain a definition for 'Grid' and no extension method 'Grid' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)   Hi Folks, I downloaded one of the rails app from server and tried running it.I faced an error on migration D:\Radiant\trunkrake db:migrate (in D:/Radiant/trunk) rake aborted! 126: The specified module could not be found. - D:/Radiant/trunk/config/../ven dor/plugins/libxml-ruby/lib/libxml_ruby.so I got the windows version of libxml_ruby.so and tried again. i got the error saying " libxml2.dll " not found.Then i checked the file libxml.rb ..it says the below lines . If running on Windows, then add the current directory to the PATH for the current process so it can find the pre-built libxml2 and iconv2 shared libraries (dlls).   I'm using Fedex's web services and getting an annoying error right up front before I can actually get anywhere. There was an error in serializing body of message addressValidationRequest1: 'Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS0030: Cannot convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' error CS0029: Cannot implicitly convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' '. Please see InnerException for more details. I'm using .NET 3.5 and get a horrible named class generated for me (I'm not sure why it isn't just AddressValidationService): AddressValidationPortTypeClient addressValidationService = new ...; on this class I make my web service call: addressValidationService.addressValidation(request); This is when I get this error. The only references I can find to this error come from ancient 1.1 projects. In my case my DLL has references to System.Web and System.Web.Services which seemed to be an issue back then.

• Deploying Excel 2003 VSTO Workbook using Sharepoint for versioning control

  I have an excel 2003 vsto workbook that I would like to make available via sharepoint for version control. Ideally it could be checked in/out by non-developers for tweaking excel equations, and I would be able to deploy the compiled dlls somewhere else when I need to update the managed VSTO code. I understand I may need to use some clickonce functionality as well so when a user first views the sheet they get all the necessary full-trust permissioning. Also, it is my understanding that for a user to use the vsto functionality in an excel 2003 vsto workbook, they must have the compiled dll in thier GAC, is this true? When testing I get trust exceptions otherwise.

• Error when running MSpec - how do I troubleshoot?

  I am following this guide to installing and using MSpec, but at the step where he runs MSpec for the first time, I get the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///[...]\Nehemiah\Nehemiah.Specs\bin\Debug\Nehemiah.Specs.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I have - to my knowledge - done everything more or less exactly like he did up to this step, except where differences arise because he's using VS2008 and I'm using VS2010, and everything has worked so far. The project Nehemijah.Specs (and the entire solution) builds without problem, both in Visual Studio and on my build server, and I can't find anything useful in Event Viewer (although I might not be looking in the right place here...) What to do?

  Hi, I have gotten the latest QWT 5.1.2 for QT 4.5 and managed to get it to complie. I am now trying to get the plugin to work in QT Designer (with VS intergration). I have placed the plugin files into the plugin/designer folder, but when attempting to load, I hit this error Cannot load library qwt_desginer_plugin5.dll: The specified module cannot be found. I've done some search on this issue, one page which suggest moving the plugin to the VS intergration folder - which does not exist for Program Files\Nokia\Vs4Addin. My QT Designer is a debug-and-relase build. (That is, if I use a debug build of the plugin it would complain that it is expecting a release).

• Reading from the Registry in ASP.NET

  I have a Library ( DLL ) that has a method with the following: var masterKey = Registry. LocalMachine. OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Dynamics\\5.0\\"); When running this method in an WinForms applicaiton, masterKey is not null and when running this in asp.net masterKey is null! I've checked the executing user with WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name and the same user is executing both applications. The asp.net application is executed in visual studio ( debug: F5 ) and so is the WinForms application. How come I cannot read the key in asp.net?

• Is it possible to use IPC inside of a IE8 Browser Helper Object?

  I need to communicate with a Service using IPC from inside of a Browser Helper Object (registered with IE8). Unfortunately, all of this communication is done through an Assembly API that I have no control over. Whenever this API starts up I get the following error: ExceptionSystem.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified. I realize that it is difficult to discern what the issue is without source. However I am curious if anyone knows of anything sort of permissions or DLL issues that would prevent IPC from working in this case.

• Checking that all libs and dlls are from the same build?

  I am developing a program in VS C++ 2008. Right now, I have a huge list of dll and lib dependencies and I am adding some more. I worry that when I need to update a dependency by building from source (where I have to manually replace built dlls and libs in the correct place), if I accidently forgot to replace something or vice versa, I may run into a compile and/or runtime problem. And finding which place goes wrong can be a bit difficult. So is there some sort of program or method out there that can suit this task to ease building a program with many updating dependencies?

  i plan to use neurodotnet for my phd thesis, but before that i just want to build some small solutions to get used to the dll structure. the first problem that i want to model using backward propagation is height-weight ratio. I have some height and weight data, i want to train my NN so that if i put in some weight then i should get correct height as a output. i have 1 input 1 hidden and 1 output layer. Now here is first of many things i cant get around :) 1. my height data is in form of 1.422, 1.5422 ... etc and the corresponding weight data is 90 95, but the NN takes the input as 0/1 or -1/1 and given the output in the same range. how to address this problem
