  • NetworkOnMainThreadException while using AsyncTask

    - by Fansher
    Im making an app that uses the internet to retrive information. I get an NetworkOnMainThreadException as i tried to run it on 3.0 and above and have therefore tried to set it up using AsyncTask, but it still gives the exception and i don't know what is wrong. Oddly enough i read on this thread Android NetworkOnMainThreadException inside of AsyncTask that if you just removes the android:targetSdkVersion="10" statement from the manifest file it will be able to run. This works but i don't find it as the right solution to solve the problem this way. So if anyone can tell me what im doing wrong with the AsyncTask i will really appriciate it. Also if there is anybody that knows why removing the statement in the manifest makes it work, im really interested in that also. My code looks like this: public class MainActivity extends Activity { static ArrayList<Tumblr> tumblrs; ListView listView; TextView footer; int offset = 0; ProgressDialog pDialog; View v; String responseBody = null; HttpResponse r; HttpEntity e; String searchUrl; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN); final ConnectivityManager conMgr = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); final NetworkInfo activeNetwork = conMgr.getActiveNetworkInfo(); if (activeNetwork != null && activeNetwork.isConnected()) { setContentView(R.layout.main); try { tumblrs = getTumblrs(); listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.list); View v = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.footer_layout, null); footer = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.tvFoot); listView.addFooterView(v); listView.setAdapter(new UserItemAdapter(this, R.layout.listitem)); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (JSONException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } new GetChicks().execute(); footer.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { new loadMoreListView().execute(); } }); } else { setContentView(R.layout.nonet); } } public class UserItemAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Tumblr> { public UserItemAdapter(Context context, int imageViewResourceId) { super(context, imageViewResourceId, tumblrs); } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View v = convertView; if (v == null) { LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater) getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); v = vi.inflate(R.layout.listitem, null); } Tumblr tumblr = tumblrs.get(position); if (tumblr != null) { ImageView image = (ImageView) v.findViewById(R.id.avatar); - by JonF
    I would like to add some sort of icon that a user can press in order to flip a variable in a broadcast receiver my app uses. Basically I just can a icon that they can press which will flip the value of a boolean in the broadcast receiver, and change the icon to indicate something happened. I think I need to do something with a widget? Could anyone point me in the direction of some tutorial I could check out?

  • Android Google maps co-ordinates

    - by Scoobler
    I have an app which stores co-ordinates. I am using Google maps to show the location to allow full use of the maps app. I am using the intent call and placing the co-ordinates in the q=xxxxxxxxx,xxxxxxxxx part. This works, however when Google maps shows the location it often finds a point on the road, sometimes a little distance from the actual co-ordinates. Is there a way to get maps to show the actual point?

  • Android date/time displaying 0 instead of 12

    - by bEtTy Barnes
    I wonder what's wrong with my code below: // Assign hour set in the picker c.set( Calendar.HOUR, selectedHour ); c.set( Calendar.MINUTE, selectedMinute ); // For alternative times c.add( Calendar.HOUR, SUB_SIX_HOUR ); c.add( Calendar.MINUTE, SUB_FLAT_MINUTE ); hour = c.get( Calendar.HOUR ); minute = c.get( Calendar.MINUTE ); hour = c.get( Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY ); StringBuilder sb4 = new StringBuilder(); if(hour>=12){ sb4.append(hour-12).append( ":" ).append(minute).append(" PM"); }else if(hour == 0){ sb4.append( "12" ).append( ":" ).append(minute).append( "AM" ); }else{ sb4.append(hour).append( ":" ).append(minute).append(" AM"); } alternative.setText( "Alternative times: " + sb3 + " (9 hours)" + sb4 + " (6 hours)" ); Please help me figure out how to display 12 instead of 0 when the calculated time is 12:00 midnight.   • android Convert phone number in International Format

    - by Arutha
    I'd like to know whether it's possible to have phone numbers converted into international format when a call is outgoing. For instance, if a french user (sorry it's the only format i know i won't make a mistake :-) try to call with the national format : 01.47.12.34.56 then a method will convert it into international format like this : +33.1.47.12.34.56 I've looked into the doc of the PhoneNumberUtils but i don't know if there is a method doing what i want.

  • Android: Playing an audio clip onClick

    - by fordays
    How do I set up an audiofile to play when a user touches an image. Where should I store the audio file and what code should I use to actually play the file? I don't want to bring up the MediaPlayer interface or anything like that. I was thinking of doing it like this: foo = (ImageView)this.findViewById(R.id.foo); foo.setOnClickListener(this); public void onClick(View v) { if (foo.isTouched()) { playAudioFile(); } } Thanks

  • Android: SurfaceView and Z-Level Question

    - by JimBadger
    I have a FrameLayout containint first a SurfaceView, and second a RelativeLayout which in turn contians various Buttons and TextViews. Upon the canvas of the SurfaceView I am drawing numerous Bitmaps, and, via Touch and Motion Events am allowing the user to drag them around. These Bitmaps, when dragged around pass underneath the Buttons etc that are inside the RelativeLayout. Now, it's my (possibly mistaken) understanding that the "Z-level" of the SurfaceView, or whatever it has that passes for it, is entirely unrelated to the actual Z-level of the rest of the Layout. Is this the case? If so, how may I get around it, so that dragged Bitmaps are drawn ontop of other Views? Or what other way can I implement a full-screen canvas and yet not have my buttons etc act like the controls of an overlay. I guess what I actually need is an underlay, where touch events can still be picked up by the Buttons etc underneath. But I don't know how to achieve this, as, when redrawing my Canvas, I have to also redraw the background. Can I swap the order of the RelativeLayout and the SurfaceView inside the FrameLayout, and then make the background of the Canvas transparent? If so how? Will touch events still "fall through" to the buttons underneath? Thanks for bearing with me, I know I'm a bit of a waffler.

  • Android inserting into SQLite JSON object

    - by Nizmon
    I'm trying to insert the below json response from a server into my sqlite DB and then read from the DB. The problem I am getting is that when I run my code it compiles fine and runs with no errors. But when trying to read from the DB I just get back what seems like an empty string so I know that the table is being created. I have the correct permissions within the manifest. I have also reference all my classes within there. {"locations": [{"locations":"Newcastle","location_id":"1"},{"locations":"London","location_id":"2"},{"locations":"Sunderland","location_id":"3"}]} Below where I use: Log.v("one", one); Log.v("two", two); below It only prints out the first set within the JSON object so Newcastle and 1. I don't get any errors at all which is stumping me. When I call the method getName within the Location class I just seem to get a blank string back! // This class creates the table as well as inserts and returns data from the sqlite DB public class Location { private DatabaseHelper mDbHelper; private SQLiteDatabase mDb; private final Context mCtx; private static final String vd_location = ("CREATE TABLE " + TABLE_VD_LOCATION + " (" + LOCATION + " TEXT," + LOCATION_ID + " TEXT " +");"); private static class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { DatabaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION); } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { db.execSQL(vd_location); } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { } } public Location(Context ctx) { this.mCtx = ctx; } public Location open() throws SQLException { this.mDbHelper = new DatabaseHelper(this.mCtx); this.mDb = this.mDbHelper.getWritableDatabase(); return this; } public void close() { this.mDbHelper.close(); } public void addOffer (JSONObject json){ try{ JSONArray earthquakes = json.getJSONArray("offers"); for(int i=0;i<earthquakes.length();i++){ open(); JSONObject e = earthquakes.getJSONObject(i); String one = e.getString("locations"); String two = e.getString("location_id"); Log.v("one", one); Log.v("two", two); mDb.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TABLE_VD_LOCATION + " ( locations, location_id ) " + "VALUES (?, ?)", new Object [] { e.getString("locations"), e.getString("location_id")}); close(); } }catch(Exception e){ }finally{ close(); } } public String getName(long l) throws SQLException{ String[] columns = new String[]{ LOCATION, LOCATION_ID}; Cursor c = mDb.query(TABLE_VD_LOCATION, columns, null, null, null, null, null); String result = ""; int iRow = c.getColumnIndex(LOCATION); int iName = c.getColumnIndex(LOCATION_ID); for (c.moveToFirst(); !c.isAfterLast(); c.moveToNext()){ result = result + c.getString(iRow) + " " + c.getString(iName) + " " + "\n"; } return result; } } // This code reads from the DB, this is just some very hacked together code so excuse it, it also works when used on other tables public void getData(){ boolean didItWork = true; try { Location loc = new Location(this); loc.open(); String data = loc.getName(0); loc.close(); Dialog t = new Dialog(this); t.setTitle("get" + data); t.show(); } catch (Exception e) { didItWork = false; String error = e.toString(); Dialog d = new Dialog(this); d.setTitle("Dang it!"); TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText(error); d.setContentView(tv); d.show(); } finally { if (didItWork) { Dialog d = new Dialog(this); d.setTitle("Heck Yea!"); TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText("Success"); d.setContentView(tv); d.show(); //entry.close(); } } }

  • How to write an intersects for Shapes in android

    - by Rafael T
    I have an written an Object called Shape which has a Point representing the topLeftCorner and a Dimension with represents its width and height. To get the topRightCorner I can simply add the width to the topLeftPoint.x. I use to rotate them on a certain degree around their center. The problem after the rotation is, that my intersects(Shape) method fails, because it does not honor the rotation of the Shapes. The rotation will be the same for each Shape. My current implementation looks like this inside my Shape Object: public boolean intersects(Shape s){ // functions returning a Point of shape s return intersects(s.topLeft()) || intersects(s.topRight()) || intersects(s.bottomLeft()) || intersects(s.bottomRight()) || intersects(s.leftCenter()) || intersects(s.rightCenter()) || intersects(s.center()); } public boolean intersects(Point p){ return p.x >= leftX() && p.x <= rightX() && p.y >= topY() && p.y <= bottomY(); } Basically I need functions like rotatedLeftX() or rotatedTopRight() to work properly. Also for that calculation I think it doesn't matter when the topLeft point before a rotation of ie 90 will turn into topRight... I already read this and this Question here, but do not understand it fully.

  • Android return to the original position of the view after MotionEvent

    - by Kurty
    My application currently changes to another random int (View) when I let go of it (ACTION_UP) but the view stays in the same spot where I dropped it. I want it to return to the original location (the middle of the screen) when I drop it so I can repeat the process. // OnTouch and MotionEvent OnTouchListener dragt = new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent me) { FrameLayout.LayoutParams par = (FrameLayout.LayoutParams) v.getLayoutParams(); switch (v.getId()) { case R.id.randomView: } switch(me.getAction()) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: par.gravity = 0; par.setMargins((int)me.getRawX() - (v.getWidth())/2, (int)me.getRawY() - (v.getHeight())/2, 0, 0); v.setLayoutParams(par); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: // tallies score. score++; textScore.setText(String.valueOf(score)); // this generates the new view but the location is still the same color.setImageResource(mImageIds[rgenerator.nextInt(mImageIds.length)]); break; } return true; } };

I am building an application that will call a web service to store data and I want to identify the identity of the person sumitting the data. If no user identity information available (pre 2.0) how about the ability to access phone identity (pre 2.0). Thanks in advance.

  • Add newlines to a text resource in Android?

    - by shmuelp
    I have a custom Dialog that contains only a TextView to display some text in my application. The documentation lists that only the b, i, u, tt, big, small, sup, sub, and strike tags are supported. I really need to add some newlines for readability. Do I need to change to a more complicated layout, or is there some way to encode newlines in the resource? I tried adding br tags, but that did not help.

  • Aligning Android Button To Bottom in RelativeLayout??

    - by MobiKnow
    I'm trying to align a button to the bottom right and bottom left of my screen, using a RelativeLayout. I want to do this to keep the same relative layout across different screen sizes. Currently the buttons on my screen move up/down depending on the resolution of the screen. 320x480 puts the buttons higher on the screen versus 480x800. I'm trying to get my screens to look the same between the two sizes. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks, MobiKnow.
