• Teamviewer 8 on Kubuntu 13.04 won't start

  The problem is I can't run Teamviewer on Kubuntu. That problem exists for me since 12.10 and I as I remember, it was with the 7th version either. I download official package from officical web site, for 64 bit system. Install it, then install all dependencies (apt-get install -f). When I start it, window with License agreement appears and I can't agree with it, because I don't see anything, even mouse cursor is invisible on window area. Property change notifications for multithreaded Silverlight applications Jeff Wilcox is discussing the need for getting change notifications to always happen on the UI thread in multi-threaded apps... great diagrams to see what's going on. Tip: The default value of a DependencyProperty is shared by all instances of the class that registers it David Anson has a tip up about setting the default value of a DependencyProperty, and the consequence that may have depending upon the type. Building a “real” extension for Expression Blend Timmy Kokke's code is WPF, but the subject is near and dear to us all, Timmy has a real-world Expression Blend extension up... a search for controls in the Objects and Timelines pane ... and even if that doesn't interest you... it's the source to a Blend extension! XPath support in Silverlight 4 + XPathPad Tim Greenfield not only talks about XPath in SL4RC, but he has produced a tool, XPathPad, and provided the source... if you've used XPath, you either are a higher thinker than me(not a big stretch), or you need this :) Using a Service Locator to Work with MessageBoxes in an MVVM Application Josh Smith posted about a question that comes up a lot: showing a messagebox from a ViewModel object. • Using Pandora in Boxee

  Boxee is a very cool multimedia app that lets you access and stream your digital media in many different ways. There’s also a lot of extra apps included with it, and today we take a look at the Pandora application in Boxee. Pandora has been a favorite free music streaming service that’s been around for some time now. Though there are new services like Grooveshark and Spotify that are competing, Pandora is still a reliable choice. It’s now included in Boxee, and here we take a look at using it. Create a Pandora Account If you don’t already have a Pandora account, you can easily create one at their website (link below). Pandora in Boxee To start using Pandora from Boxee, launch Boxee and from the main menu select Apps. Now from the My Apps section select Pandora. When the Pandora app menu comes up, select Start. Now you need to log into your Pandora account. After signing in you can starting listening to your stations, viewing artist info, and cover art. All while enjoying some cool visuals in the background. From the controls at the top you can control playback, skip songs, control volume, get information on why a song was picked, and give a song a thumbs up or down. Of course you can also pull up your stations and switch between them and add more. The same features you’ve come to expect from Pandora are available. One thing we noticed missing is not being able to click on the band or artist to get additional information about them –which you can do on the Pandora site and desktop app. But that isn’t a deal breaker by any means, and we’re hoping the feature will be added in the future. Then while you’re checking out other apps, shows, and setting within Boxee, the cool visuals continue and the songs from you stations keep playing. Conclusion Pandora is a great streaming music service and a welcome edition to Boxee. If you’re a fan of Pandora now you can listen to it on your home theater system. • Make Your Coworker’s Day in Ubuntu

  It can be difficult to express your appreciation for your coworkers in person – what if they take it the wrong way, or think you’re fishing for a compliment of your own? If you use Ubuntu in your office, here’s a quick way to show your appreciation while avoiding the social pitfalls of face-to-face communication. Make sure their computer is locked An unlocked computer is a vulnerable computer. Vulnerable to malware sure, but much more vulnerable to the local office prankster, who thinks it’s hilarious to make a screenshot of your desktop, change your background to that screenshot, then hide all of your desktop icons. These incidents have taught us that you should lock your computer when taking a break. Hopefully your coworker has learned the same lesson, and pressed Ctrl+Alt+L before stepping out for a coffee. Leave a carefully worded message Now is your opportunity to leave your message of appreciation on your coworker’s computer. Click on the Leave Message button and type away! Click on Save. Wait, possibly in the shadows If you sit near your coworker, then wait for them to return. If you sit farther away, then try to listen for their footsteps. Eventually they will return to their computer and enter their password to unlock it. Observe smile Once they return to their desktop, they will be greeted with the message you left. Look to see if they appreciated the message, and if so, feel free to take credit. If they look annoyed, or press the Cancel button, continue on with your day like nothing happened. You may also try to slip into a conversation that you saw Jerry tinkering with their computer earlier. Conclusion Leaving your coworkers a nice message is easy and can brighten up their dull afternoon. • Control Your Favorite Music Player from Firefox

  Do you love listening to music while you browse? Now you can access and control your favorite music player directly from Firefox with the FoxyTunes extension. FoxyTunes in Action Once you have installed the extension and restarted Firefox you will see the FoxyTunes Toolbar located in the “Status Bar”. The default media app is Windows Media Player but can be easily changed. Here are the buttons/items available with the default settings: Search, FoxyTunes Main Menu, Show Player, Select Player, Previous Track, Play, Next Track, Mute On/Off, Volume, Play File, Twitty Tunes, Foxy Tunes Search/Explore, Open FoxyTunes Planet, & Toggle Visibility/Drag and drop to move. Note: You can hide or show individual buttons/items using the “FoxyTunes Menus”. Curious about the media players that FoxyTunes works with? Here is a complete listing…that definitely looks terrific! Notice that the currently selected media app is “bold and blue”. For our example we chose Spotify which we have previously covered. Keep in mind that you may or may not need to have your favorite media app open prior to “starting” FoxyTunes up (i.e. Play Button). Here is a good look at the “FoxyTunes Main Menu” and “Controls Sub-Menu”. The “Extras Menu”…if you click on skins you will be taken to the FoxyTunes Skins webpage. Here is a closer look into the “Configurations Menu” and one of the sub-menus. You do not need to look for options in the “Add-ons Manager Window”…everything you need is contained in these menus. If you do not like having FoxyTunes in the “Status Bar” you can easily drag and drop it to another toolbar. You can also condense the appearance of FoxyTunes using the small “triangle buttons” that are located in different spots throughout the “FoxyTunes Toolbar”. With just a click or two you can greatly reduce its’ impact on your UI. Conclusion If you love listening to music while browsing then the FoxyTunes extension will let you take care of everything right from your browser. • Setting up OpenGL camera with off-center perspective

  Hi, I'm using OpenGL ES (in iOS) and am struggling with setting up a viewport with an off-center distance point. Consider a game where you have a character in the left hand side of the screen, and some controls alpha'd over the left-hand side. The "main" part of the screen is on the right, but you still want to show whats in the view on the left. However when the character moves "forward" you want the character to appear to be going "straight", or "up" on the device, and not heading on an angle to the point that is geographically at the mid-x position in the screen. I've tried a variety of things to make it appear as though "the dude" is off to the right: - do a translate after the frustrum to the x direction - do a rotation after the frustrum about the up/y-axis - move the camera with a biased lean to the left of the dude Nothing i do seems to produce good results, the dude will either look like he's stuck on an angle, or the whole scene will appear tilted. I'm no OpenGL expert, so i'm hoping someone can suggest some ideas or tricks on how to "off-center" these model views in OpenGL. Thanks!

• Attach to Process in Visual Studio

  One option for achieving step 1 in the Live Debugging process is attaching to an already running instance of the process that hosts your code, and this is a good place for me to talk about debug engines. You can attach to a process by selecting the "Debug" menu and then the "Attach To Process…" menu in Visual Studio 11 (Ctrl+Alt+P with my keyboard bindings), and you should see something like this screenshot: I am not going to explain this UI, besides being fairly intuitive, there is good documentation on MSDN for the Attach dialog. I do want to focus on the row of controls that starts with the "Attach to:" label and ends with the "Select..." button. Between them is the readonly textbox that indicates the debug engine that will be used for the selected process if you click the "Attach" button. If you haven't encountered that term before, read on MSDN about debug engines. Notice that the "Type" column shows the Code Type(s) that can be detected for the process. Typically each debug engine knows how to debug a specific code type (the two terms tend to be used interchangeably). If you click on a different process in the list with a different code type, the debug engine used will be different. However note that this is the automatic behavior. If you believe you know best, or more typically you want to choose the debug engine for a process using more than one code type, you can do so by clicking the "Select..." button, which should yield a "Select Code Type" dialog like this one: In this dialog you can switch to the debug engine you want to use by checking the box in front of your desired one, then hit "OK", then hit "Attach" to use it. Notice that the dialog suggests that you can select more than one. Not all combinations work (you'll get an error if you select two incompatible debug engines), but some do. Also notice in the list of debug engines one of the new players in Visual Studio 11, the GPU debug engine - I will be covering that on the C++ AMP team blog (and no, it cannot be combined with any others in this release).   If you are in the Orlando, FL area during the first week of May then you should head over to the Orlando DotNetNuke user group meeting. Nik Kalyani will be the speaker and you will learn a great deal from him. DotNetNuke Module Development with the MVP Pattern This session focuses on introducing attendees to the Model-View-Presenter pattern, support for which was recently introduced in the DotNetNuke Core. We'll start with a quick overview of the pattern, compare it to MVC, and then dive right into code. We will start with fundamentals and then develop a full-featured module using this pattern. In order to do justice to the pattern, we will use ASP.NET WebForms controls minimally and implement most of the UI using jQuery plug-ins. Finally, to increase audience participation (both present at the meeting and remote), we will use a hackathon-style model and allow anybody, anywhere to follow along with the presentation and code their own MVP-based solution that they can share online during or after the session. A URL with full instructions for the hackathon will be posted online a few days prior to the meeting. You do have to authorize access for Seesmic to connect with your account but the whole process (login & authorization) is handled in a single window instance. Now on to a quick look at some of the UI features… The sidebar allows you to add additional columns to the main interface, set your favorite location for Trends, and tie in additional social services as desired. You can also access additional options and controls in the upper right corner. When you are ready to start tweeting click in the blank at the top and enter your text, etc. in the convenient drop-down window that appears. Another nice perk is the ability to switch to a black and grey theme if the white is too bright for your needs. • middle-click on Thunderbird icon in Unity Launcher gives window without titlebar or menubar

  I expect that this is a (low-priority) bug, but apport-bug strongly encouraged me to come here first, so here I am... What I did: I started Thunderbird and then minimized the window. I then middle-clicked on the Thunderbird icon in the Unity (3D) Launcher. I do not have any of the appmenu packages installed (not indicator-appmenu, nor any of the *-globalmenu or appmenu-* packages). What I expected: I would get the Thunderbird main window back at its original location, or possibly I'd get a Compose Mail window somewhere on the desktop. (This was something of an experiment, so I wasn't really sure what to expect.) What happens: The Thunderbird main window appears in the upper left corner of the display, displacing the Launcher. This was not its previous location. The window has no titlebar or menubar. The top panel says "Thunderbird Mail", but moving the mouse over that text does nothing (doesn't show the close/minimize/maximize controls). I can still bring up the Launcher and start applications. If I start Firefox and give it input focus, clicking on the Thunderbird window leaves the focus with Firefox. I can use the Switcher to give Thunderbird the input focus. (Both the Unity Switcher and the Static Application Switcher work. If I use the Static Application Switcher, I see Thunderbird's menubar in the top panel until I release Alt-tab.) I can kill Thunderbird from the Launcher. I can also use the Unity Switcher to minimize everything. If I then left-click on the Thunderbird icon in the Launcher, the Thunderbird main window reappears in the upper left. But this time it does not displace the Launcher, and it has the proper titlebar and menubar. This does not happen with Unity 2D. And I haven't seen it with any other app. I realize that because I've disabled the appmenu stuff, I'm not getting the full Unity experience, and there might be some rough edges. But this is a bug, yes?

• Listen to Local FM Radio in Windows 7 Media Center

  If you have a supported tuner card and connected FM antenna, you can listen to your favorite local over-the-air FM stations in Windows 7 Media Center. Before the FM radio option will be available in Windows Media Center, you’ll need to have a TV or Radio tuner card installed and configured. If you have a TV tuner card installed, you may already have a Radio tuner as well. Many TV tuner cards also have built in FM tuners. Open Windows Media Center, scroll the “Music” and over to “Radio.” Click on “FM Radio.”   The radio will turn on and you’ll see the current station number listed in the white box. Just below are standard “Seek” and “Tune” buttons, as well as “Preset” options. Tuning works just like a typical FM radio. Click on the (-) or (+) buttons to “Tune” or “Seek” up and down the dial. If you already know the frequency of the station, enter the numbers using the numeric keypad on the remote control or keyboard. To save the current station you’re listening to as a preset, click on the “Save as Preset” button. Type in a custom name for your preset station and click “Save.”   Once you set your presets, they will also be available on the main FM Radio screen. The transport controls at the bottom of the screen also allow you to control Volume, Pause, Play, Skip back, and Skip forward. Fast Forward and Rewind, however, are not supported.   This is a nice option if you’d like to listen to your local FM favorites on your computer, especially if those stations aren’t available online. It augments the WHERE clause in a View Object query. Named View Criteria are defined in the Query panel of the View Object and are used ·         In combination with the af:query component to build search forms. To do this, you drag and drop the View Criteria from the Named View Criteria node of the View Object in the Data Controls Panel. In the context menu, you then select the Query component - optionally with a result table ·         To restrict a View Object instance in the Application Module model. For this, select a View object instance in the right hand list of the ADF Business Component Data Model panel. Use the Edit button to add a View Criteria to the View Object instance. This ensures that the View Object instance also runs with a query filter applied. View Criteria use bind variables for query conditions that you want to pass in dynamically at runtime. Beside of the ability to apply View Criteria declaratively, you can apply them programmatically in Java. A WHERE clause, if added to a View Object query by design restricts all instances of this View Object, which usually is not what developers want. Because of the benefits - and the configuration options not explained above but in the product documentation referenced below - the recommendation is to use View Criteria.
