  • What is the best way to maintain an entity's original properties when they are not included in MVC binding from edit page?

    I have an ASP.NET MVC view for editing a model object. The edit page includes most of the properties of my object but not all of them -- specifically it does not include CreatedOn and CreatedBy fields since those are set upon creation (in my service layer) and shouldn't change in the future. Unless I include these properties as hidden fields they will not be picked up during Binding and are unavailable when I save the modified object in my EF 4 DB Context. In actuality, upon save the original values would be overwritten by nulls (or some type-specific default). I don't want to drop these in as hidden fields because it is a waste of bytes and I don't want those values exposed to potential manipulation. Is there a "first class" way to handle this situation? Is it possible to specify a EF Model property is to be ignored unless explicitly set?

  • Displaying a collection of objects in a .Net grid on a smartphone without data binding.

    I know there's No DataGridView in the CF, but I've got a collection of in-memory objects that I want to display in a grid on a phone. Options I have thought of: Stick all the objects into a SQL-CE database and use a bound datagrid. This'll mean pulling my classes apart and separating the data from the functionality, which may or may not be a bad thing, but seems a little overkill. Write my own dataset and binding code so that I can bind my collection of objects to a bound datagrid. No idea how practical or possible this is, but seems like it's either do-able or impossible and I'm hoping someone here knows which! Find a third-party unbound grid control. The only one I've seen mentioned is OpenNetCF, which I'm downloading as I type. Are there others? Are any of them any good? Do something very nasty with dynamically loading labels and textboxes into a scrolling region on the form. REALLY don't want to go there. I'm not much experienced with data-bound controls other than occasionally making use of the very vanilla functionality in WinForms or ASP.Net, and that quite a long time ago, so if any of the above are silly, please be gentle.     I have a ASP.NET MVC 2 project. I've created edmx file on the class library project that holds the model. now I've created another class library called it shared and moved the edmx file over there. resolved some issues, everything compiles, but it can't find the connection string resource at runtime. I've copied the ConnectionString part of the Web.Config to the main file, the old class library app.config file and the new class library app.config file. Still get this error: System.Data.MetadataException: Unable to load the specified metadata resource. Line 75: public myProjdb() : base("name=myProjdb", "MyProjdb") in the MyProj.Designer.cs file. Any Idea how to resolve this issue ? Is there a better way to store connection string data ?

If I use repository pattern, how should I arrange my assemblies in the VS2008 solution (as Data-Models and Data/Object-Contexts are stored in the same file...)?     I want to get the path of my app like: "\\ProgramFiles\\myApp", I try to use the following code: string path = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().CodeBase; But it returns a path which has "\\myapp.exe" at the end. I also tried: string path = System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(); But it throws an “NotSupportedException”. Is there any way to get a path without .exe at the end?

  • GUID or int entity key with SQL Compact/EF4?

    This is a follow-up to an earlier question I posted on EF4 entity keys with SQL Compact. SQL Compact doesn't allow server-generated identity keys, so I am left with creating my own keys as objects are added to the ObjectContext. My first choice would be an integer key, and the previous answer linked to a blog post that shows an extension method that uses the Max operator with a selector expression to find the next available key: public static TResult NextId<TSource, TResult>(this ObjectSet<TSource> table, Expression<Func<TSource, TResult>> selector) where TSource : class { TResult lastId = table.Any() ? table.Max(selector) : default(TResult); if (lastId is int) { lastId = (TResult)(object)(((int)(object)lastId) + 1); } return lastId; } Here's my take on the extension method: It will work fine if the ObjectContext that I am working with has an unfiltered entity set. In that case, the ObjectContext will contain all rows from the data table, and I will get an accurate result. But if the entity set is the result of a query filter, the method will return the last entity key in the filtered entity set, which will not necessarily be the last key in the data table. So I think the extension method won't really work. At this point, the obvious solution seems to be to simply use a GUID as the entity key. That way, I only need to call Guid.NewGuid() method to set the ID property before I add a new entity to my ObjectContext. Here is my question: Is there a simple way of getting the last primary key in the data store from EF4 (without having to create a second ObjectContext for that purpose)? Any other reason not to take the easy way out and simply use a GUID? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Stackers, What is the best way to access my models and forms from a controller of a module? Let's explain with "pictures": /application/module/storage/controllers/IndexController.php needs to call readAction in the class called storage_Model_Files in /application/module/storage/models/Files.php I've made this app's dir structure and these forms and models with zf.sh (Zend_Tool). I've read about all sorts of ways of manually including these files. I want to lazy load them much like everything is done automatically with the default module. I can't seem to find how in the docs. Does that make sense? I have: resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" in my application.ini file. So I can access my controllers fine. Thanks for your help!

    Hi all, I am writing a spring 2.5 application and in my jsp I'm writing my own tags. It's about a list of objects...when I change the number of rows that list shows(a combobox), I am doing a submit on my form returning back to the view(obviosly with the new number of rows returned). When listing with my own tags I need to get the properties from my command object. I have access to the pageContext object but I can't figure where the command object is stored.     I have a many-to-many relationship: Application - Applications_Servers - Server This is set up in my Entity Data Model and all is well. My problem is that I'd like to eager-load the whole graph of Applications so that I have an IEnumerable<Applications>, each Application member populated with the Servers collection associated by the many-to-many relationship. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but according to my research there must be a navigation property between Application and Server. This is not the case for me because my Applications_Servers join table has more in it than just the two keys. Therefore, there is no navigation property directly between Application and Server, and this doesn't work: var apps = (from a in context.Application.Include("Server") select a).ToList(); I get an error saying there is no navigation property on Application called "Server", and that's correct, there is none. How do I write the query to eager-load my Applications with their Servers in this case?

  • Google search is not working in web browser control

    Hello, I have developed a browser using the standard WebBrowser control in my application that is built against CF 3.5. Google search is not working in the browser. That is when i navigate to www.google.co.in and type a keyword and click on the serach button nothing is happening. Outside the application from the device if i try the same thing in IE am getting a security warning dialog box and if ok is clicked search results are shown. So in my case do i need to set property on the webbrowser control. Thanks in advance

    I’ve created a GPS program that track positions in realtime in the background for Windows mobile 6.1 in 2008-2009. It ran fine on these devices for many years. For some reason, the same code never worked perfectly on Windows Mobile 6.5.   • Zend Routes conflict

    I have defined 2 custom routes. One for threads/:id/:name and the other for threads/tags/:tagName however the second one conflicts with the first because if I enable both then the first breaks and treats :id literally as an action, not obeying the \d+ requirement ( I also tried using pure regex routes, see bottom ). Action "1" does not exist and was not trapped in __call() I tried re-arranging the order of the routes but if I do that then the threads/tags/:tagName doesnt correctly capture the tagName. I also tried disabling default routes but the routes still don't properly work after that.     I am trying to add an entity to the DB. Once I have added it, I want to detach it, so I can manipulate the object safely without making any changes to the DB. After calling context.SaveChanges() I do the following to detach the entity: // save context.Stories.Add(story); // attach tags. They already exists in the database foreach(var tag in story.Tags) context.Entry(tag).State = System.Data.EntityState.Unchanged; context.SaveChanges(); context.Entry(story).State = System.Data.EntityState.Detached; However, changing the entity state to DETACHED will remove all related entities associated with the my entity. Is there a way to stop this ? If I don't detach the entity, all my changes are sent to the DB next time I call context.SaveChanges() Thanks!!

    I just started using Swiz, and, it seems like Swiz forces you to create classes with weak encapsulation. Swiz requires all event handlers to be public in order to mediate events. Assume that component 'A' dispatches a few events, which I want to listen to in component 'B'. Traditionally, I'll just add event listeners on 'A' in 'B' and all the event handlers in 'B' can be kept private. However, if, I am using Swiz, I need to make all the handlers, mediating events, public. Am I missing something here, is there a way to bypass this problem. I really, don't want to pollute the public interface of my class. Thanks.

Notice that the first and second objects in the array are complete duplicates. Aside from the obvious solution of switching to PostgresSQL, what MongoDB query can I run to remove duplicate entries from foo_list? Similar answers that do not quite cut it: http://stackoverflow.com/a/16907596/432 http://stackoverflow.com/a/18804460/432 These questions answer the question if the array had bare strings in it. However in my situation the array is filled with objects. I hope it is clear that I am not interested in a query; I want the duplicates to be gone from the database forever.

    I'm trying to create something that looks like facebook's profile URL (http://facebook.com/username). So, at first I tried something like that: $router->addRoute( 'eventName', new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/:eventName', array( 'module' => 'default', 'controller' => 'event', 'action' => 'detail' ) ) ); I kept getting the following error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Controller_Router_Exception' with message 'eventName is not specified' in /var/desenvolvimento/padroes/zf/ZendFramework-1.12.0/library/Zend/Controller/Plugin/Broker.php on line 336 Not only I was unable to make that piece of code work, all my default routes were (obviously) overwritten. So I have, for example, stuff like "mydomain.com/admin", that was now returning the same error (as it fell in the same pattern as /:eventName). What I need to do is to create this custom route, without overwriting the default ones and actually working (dûh). I have already checked the online docs and a lot (A LOT) of stuff on google, but I didn't find anything related to the error I'm getting or how to not overwrite the default routes. I'd appreciate anything that could point me the right direction. Thanks.

    I "inherited" an old Database where dates are stored as Int32 values (times too, but dates shall suffice for this example) i.e. 20090101 for Jan. 1st 2009. I can not change the schema of this database because it is still accessed by the old programs. However I want to write a new program using EF as the O/R-M. Now I'd love to have DateTime-Values in my Model. Is there a way to write a custom type and use this as a Type in the EF-Model. Something like a Type "OldDate" with properties: DatabaseValue : Int23 Value : DateTime (specifying the date-part whereas the time-part is always 0:00:00) Is something like this possible with the EF-Model ?
