  • v4l - capture and watch at the same time

    Capturing v4l and line-in audio using mencoder works very well, but I would like to record real-time gameplay video from consoles plugged into the video card. I've used xawtv for this (Works quite well, can preview and record in real time), but when I enable any deinterlacing or aspect ration options the video fails to record. I have to record raw and re-encode the video with the appropriate filters later to get something workable. Other things I have tried: tvtime with xvidcap and jack audio capture - xvidcap drops frames and muxing the audio is impossible as it will go out of sync (I have not found muxer options that work to force a correct frame rate) mencoder capture to file, attempt to pipe tail of file to mplayer... mencoder works great, piping the file is far too heavy to attempt gameplay. Soooo, v4l capture and preview simultaneously, recommendations?

I've created a windows7 vhd file with help of the following blog post hanselman blog After that, I've added it to my boot menu with help of another blog post hanselman blog This worked great. After that, i've upgraded my hdd. With help of clonezilla i've copied the old disk to the new disk. Next step was to copy the vhd to another partition. Then i updated the boot menu. However, the step C:\>bcdedit /set {guid} device vhd=[driveletter:]\<directory>\<vhd filename> fails with the message An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. what is happening?

  • Virtualhost entries gets over-written when apache httpd.conf is rebuilt

    Background: We have been trying to get a wildcard SSL working on multiple sub domains on a single dedicated address.. We have two sub domains next.my-personal-website.com and blog.my-personal-website.com Part of our strategy has been to edit the httpd.conf and add the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the virtualhost entries for port 443 for the subdomains there. This works good if we just edit the httpd.conf, add the entries, save it and restart the apache. The problem: But if we add a new sub domain from cpanel or we run the # /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller --update # /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf the virtualhost entries that we added manually are no more there in the newly generated httpd.conf file. Only the virtualhost entry for the main domain for port 443 that was there before we made edits to the httpd.conf is there(assuming we are not discussing virtualhost entries for port 80). I understand we need to put the new virtualhost entries in some include files as mentioned here in the cpanel documentation. But am not sure where to. So the question would be where do I put the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the two virtualhost directive for port 443, so that they are not overwritten when httpd.conf is rebuilt/regenerated later.   • Dedicated GPU in Dell PowerEdge C1100

    We recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge C1100 off lease with the initention of using it for graphics processing. We installed an AMD HD 7000 series GPU in it that runs off of board power and it sends video to the display. That said, the video is very choppy, leading us to belive that the onboard video is doing all the processing and sending it to the card. Is there any way to either disable the VGA on this server or tell the OS to only use the dedicated card. More info: The server is running REHL 6.4 The graphics running the proprietary AMD drivers The video card only works in OS and does not show the BIOS on boot (we know that it's impossible to change this) Any ideas, guys? Update We are now thinking that the GPU is doing the graphics processing, but not working at the full speed of the PCI bus. Which is odd, because it is an x16 slot, but probably optimized to use a RAID card (if that makes any sense). Is there any way to remedy the choppy graphics on this server?

  • Hardware, network infrastructure for runnng gaming server nd on VirtualGL

    Foud nice project VirtualGL (http://www.virtualgl.org/). Tried to run 3D fames (EVE Online, Prototype) on server and display the output on thin client using 100Mbps network. Server: Gentoo Linux on AMD Phoenom II x6 3.4Gz, 8GB RAM, 2x NVIDIA 9800 GTX in single session with display resulution 1024x768 on client. Performance is very promising. Going to increase network speed to 1Gbps (using either Ethernet or Fiber) and run 5-6 clients simultenously. My questions are: a) what would be better for network - 1Gbps Ethernet or Fiber (clients are distributed in max 20m around server)? Is that a must to use managed switch for better network performance? b) Should I increase number of video cards to put in SLI on server (going to use Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD7 which has 6 PCIExpress slots [2 x4, 2 x8 and 2 x16]). Will it impact performance significantly. If I need to increase the number of video cards - what would be better - put 2 banks of video cards with 3 in bank using SLI, or 3 banks with 2 in the bank? Would linux recognize that and properly use all banks of video cards? c) any suggestions on good thin clients supporting 1920x1080 HDMI video and 1Gbps network I understand that my questions can't be answered clearly (unless someone already managed to use this kind of stuff ;)) although any suggestions would be very helpful.

    I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card?   • Computer wont POST after power outage

    I had just turned my computer on and windows was loading when the power in my neighborhood went out. Normally, when I turn my computer on, the video card fan spins up, then slows down, POST and windows boots. Now, after the blackout, the video card fan spins fast and wont stop. Nothing is displayed on the monitor. The monitor does not detect that the video card is sending it signals, it just stays on standby. No POST or beep codes. This is what I have tried so far: My motherboard has 2 PCI express slots and I tried plugging the video card into both of them but that didn't fix anything. I have replaced the power supply, that didn't fix anything. I cleared the CMOS, that didn't fix anything. Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong? Thanks!

    Possible Duplicate: How to make domain point to another web directory? My boss just bought the domain: sergiotapia.me for me, and agree'd the host my Wordpress blog on company servers. We're using Apache (latest version). The domain is purchased on NameCheap.com and the DNS settings are as follows: And when I visit my URL, it's getting redirected to my VPS server without problems. The thing is, I want my blog to appears at once, not have a user select the folder and then see the blog. My Wordpress blog is located at: /var/www/sergiotapia.me On IIS, you would need to edit the Bindings and map a domain to an application. I'm guessing I have to do something similar on Apache. What am I looking for here? Any tips on getting this working correctly?

    Say I had 4 videos with the following names: Main Video.mov Top Left.mov Top Right.mov Top Mid.mov and I wanted to have "Main Video" play with a picture in picture effect with boxes of videos playing in the top left, top right and top mid. Each box would have the video that is similarly named.     I'm used to use VirtualDub to encode a video to AVI container with DivX-codec (and MP3 for audio). Now I'm planning to use ffmpeg to encode videos to MP4 container with h264-codec. What I've figured out is that I need to use libx264 and one of those presets to make anything work. However, I'm amazed about the video bitrate ffmpeg uses for encoding.     Hi, I keep getting a 404 Page Not Found whenever I try to access CodeIgniter's Scaffolding page in my browser, like so: localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog/scaffolding/mysecretword I can access localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog just fine. I followed CodeIgnitor's instructions in their "Create a blog in 20 minutes" by storing my database settings in the database.php file; and automatically connecting to the database by inserting "database" in the core array of the autoload.php; and I've added both parent::Controller(); and $this-load-scaffolding('myTableName') to blog's constructor. It still gives me this 404. Any suggestions?

  • PC runs very slowly for no apparent reason

    I have a Dell Latitude D820 that I've owned for about 2.5 years. It is a Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz, with 2 GB of RAM, an 80 GB hard drive and an NVidia Quadro 120M video card. The computer was purchased in late November of 2006 with XP Pro, and included a free upgrade to Vista Business. (Vista was available on MSDN but not yet via retail, so the Vista Business upgrades weren't shipped until March of '07.) Since we had an MSDN subscription at the time, I installed Vista Ultimate on it pretty much as soon as I got it. It ran happily until sometime in the spring of 2007 when Media Center (which I had never used except to watch DVDs) started throwing some kind of bizarre SQL (CE?) error. This error would pop up at random times just while using the computer. Furthermore, Media Center would no longer start. I never identified the cause of this error. I had the Vista Business upgrade by this time, so I nuked the machine, installed XP and all the drivers, and then the Vista Business upgrade. Again, it ran happily for a few months and then started behaving badly once again. Vista Business doesn't have Media Center, so this exhibited completely unrelated symptoms. For no apparent reason and at fairly random times, the machine would suddenly appear to freeze up or run very slowly. For example, launching a new application window (any app) might take 30-45 seconds to paint fully. However, Task Manager showed very low CPU load, memory, etc. I tried all the normal stuff (chkdsk, defrag, etc.) and ran several diagnostic programs to try to identify any problems, but none found anything. It eventually reached the point that the computer was all but unusable, so I nuked it again and installed XP. This time I decided to stick with XP instead of going to Vista. However, within the past couple of months it has started to exhibit the same symptoms in XP that I used to see in Vista. The computer is still under Dell warranty until December, but so far they aren't any help unless I can identify a specific problem. A friend (partner in a now-dead business) has an identical machine that was purchased at the same time. His machine exhibits none of these symptoms, which leads me to believe it is a hardware issue, but I can't figure out how to identify it. Any ideas? Utilities? Seen something similar? At this point I can't even identify any pattern to the behavior, but would be willing to run a "stress test"-style app for as long as a couple days if I had any hope that it would find something. EDIT July 17 I'm testing jerryjvl's answer regarding the video card, though I'm not sure it fully explains the symptoms yet. This morning I ran a video stress test. The test itself ran fine, but immediately afterward the PC started acting up again. I left ProcExp open and various system processes were consuming 50-60% of the CPU but with no apparent reason. For example, "services.exe" was eating about 40%, but the sum of its child processes wasn't higher than about 5%. I left it alone for several minutes to settle down, and then it was fine again. I used the "video card stability test" from firestone-group.com. Its output isn't very detailed, but it at least exercises the hardware pretty hard. EDIT July 22 Thanks for your excellent suggestions. Here is an update on what I have tried so far. Ran memtest86, SeaTools (Seagate), Hitachi drive fitness test, video card stability test (mentioned above). The video card test was the only one that seemed to produce any results, though it didn't occur during the actual test. I defragged the drive (again...) with JkDefrag I dropped the video card

The system puts video and network to sleep and it will not wakeup. I have heard of this problem on laptops, but this is a tower. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I tried to ping the network card from another system and ping fails. The logs indicate that the system continues to be active. Pressing keyboard short-cut keys makes the disk light blink but neither the video or network card comes alive. Failing all else, are there any Linux commands that I could schedule in cron to pulse video and network adapters hourly that will keep them awake? Or, should I wait on Fedora13? Before this machine, I built a Dimension 2400 with Pentium IV and it had the same problem. Fedora9 on the same hardware is fine.

My articles are not meant as a blog, they're just meant as a collection of tutorials and how-to's, but I think a blog-type software would probably be the most appropriate mode of formatting that kind of stuff. Right now I am using the blog feature of cite u like, which is very low tech and I really need something better. On my wish list is, among other things: code snippets in scrollable boxes syntax highlighting for source code snippets tagging articles with graphical icons according to topic, like in slashdot of course users (i.e. readers) should be able to comment on articles Also, just more options than a super-simple blog should look slick! should not look wikipedia-like Is there any software you can recommend for this purpose?

According to Netflix support is coming with OS X Yosemite. (See blog link below) For other platforms it appears Google Chrome also has support for Premium Video Extensions for HTML5 and Netflix will use it.     I am deploying an application and a Wordpress installation on AWS. I have Wordpress set up under Apache on an EC2, and my application under Lighttpd, and I want to reverse-proxy Wordpress through the application node. This works fine, I just set up the reverse proxy in Lighttpd as so: $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/blog" { proxy.server = ( "/blog" => ( "blog" => ( "host" => "123.456.789.123", "port" => 80 )) ) } url.rewrite-once = ( "^(.*?)$" => "/index.php/$1" ) However, the issue is in the rewrite. When I enable rewriting, it catches it before the reverse proxy, and routes to index.php on the application server. I need it to not rewrite if it's going to the blog. I tried various regex matches and other configurations, but I haven't been able to get it to support rewriting and proxying at the same time. How can this be done?
