  • How do you get the solution directory in C# (VS 2008) in code?

    Hi, Got an annoying problem here. I've got an NHibernate/Forms application I'm working through SVN. I made some of my own controls, but when I drag and drop those (or view some form editors where I have already dragged and dropped) onto some of my other controls, Visual studio decides it needs to execute some of the code I wrote, including the part that looks for hibernate.cfg.xml. I have no idea why this is, but (sometimes!) when it executes the code during my form load or drag and drop it switches the current directory to C:\program files\vs 9.0\common7\ide, and then nhibernate throws an exception that it can't find hibernate.cfg.xml, because I'm searching for that in a relative path. Now, I don't want to hard code the location of hibernate.cfg.xml, or just copy hibernate.cfg.xml to the ide directory (which will work). I want a solution that gets the solutions directory while the current directory is common7\ide. Something that will let someone view my forms in the designer on a fresh checkout to an arbitrary directory on an arbitrary machine. And no, I'm not about to load the controls in code. I have so many controls within controls that it is a nightmare to line everything up without it. I tried a pre build event that made a file that has the solution directory in it, but of course how can I find that from common7\ide? All the projects files need to be in the solution directory because of svn. Thanks for your help guys, I've already spent a few hours fiddling with this in vain.

I have used following code but the records are not sorted.     Is there an easy method to restore a minimized form to its previous state, either Normal or Maximized? I'm expecting the same functionality as clicking the taskbar (or right-clicking and choosing restore). So far, I have this, but if the form was previously maximized, it still comes back as a normal window. if (docView.WindowState == FormWindowState.Minimized) docView.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal; Do I have to handle the state change in the form to remember the previous state?

    I am working in VB.NET 2010 Framework 2.0. I don't want to allow some properties from going into form's designer file but the those properties will present on the form(property grid). The behavior of these properties will be same always. I used the following code: <DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)> Public Property GradientBegin() As Color = Color.Red But the problem I am facing is that - on the property grid after changing the "GradientBegin" color to other than RED and compiling the program, it is replacing the new changed value to RED again. So I am not able to change the color actually. How can I achieve this? Thanks for any reply in advance.

For example: the program needs a save icon there are 5 icons collections on your HD that have a save icon and there are 5 more collections that don't have a save icon (but you don't know that) do you browse through each icon collection? run a search (assumes files are named consistently)?     We would like under some circumstances to block the action of the close button in the title bar. The problem is that it's a MDI applications and it seems that we will have to add code in each forms to cancel the operation in the Closingevent handler. It seems that the child forms are the first to receive the event. There is no way to add code at a single place to cancel the close operation. Information on how the close event is propagated to the child form would be welcome. Is there a simple way of doing what we want to do?

While each listview control uses different datasets the basic formatting of each remains the same. Basic formatting takes this form: /* appearance */ this.lstA.View = View.Details; this.lstA.AllowColumnReorder = true; this.lstA.CheckBoxes = false; this.lstA.FullRowSelect = true; this.lstA.GridLines = false; this.lstA.Sorting = SortOrder.Ascending; What I would like to do is create a class that can be used to set the initial format of the listview. How do I pass the listview (by reference?) to the class so that the appearance properties can be set?

  • Multiple selection in a TreeView

    I am using a Windows Forms TreeView control in my program. I would like to allow the user to select multiple nodes at the same level by dragging their mouse pointer around (also called a "lasso" selection). I don't think a standard TreeView allows that. My question is what would be the best way to achieve this? Do I have to write custom selection behaviour of my own in perhaps a custom or derived control? Where do I start? I don't need a detailed explanation. Just a small nudge in the right direction.

  • How to assign a numbering scheme to TreeNodes based on position

    I have a TreeView control in a Windows Forms application that is displaying my own subclass of TreeNode. I need to display a number along with each node's text indicating its position in the tree, like 1 for the root, 1.1 for its first child, 1.2 for its second child, etc. I'm using C# with .NET 2.0 The best that I can come up with is, after the tree is built, go to each node, recursively find the parent and append the parent's sibling number to the front of the node's text until you reach the root.
