I have a Windows 7 machine and XP machine on the same router. If someone is using the XP machine, how can I see what they're doing from my Windows 7 machine?
We have critical servers (webservers and databases) that are fully replicated, except for the reverse proxy that we use to hide the internal stuff. This proxy is acting like a router that filters and redirects traffic to the main server and switch for failover if the main one is down.
We want to find an alternative to this proxy because one single entry point is not enough.
Is there any company that has a solid and redundant infrastructure that offers redirection to an IP and allows quick switching to another one?
hello all i have a Toshiba 64 bit windows vista, i tried looking for the drivers from the main website but no luck all the ones i got did not work or did not do anything. would someone know where i can find it or maybe fix this issue it will not find any network wireless or even if i hook up the Ethernet cable. i don't know why Toshiba makes it hard they should have a complete bundle.

Am I crazy for considering purchasing a Cisco 2621 for the house? I am familiar enough with IOS to set up a simple gateway router, I don't really need the experience. At this point, I'm a developer so my days of crawling through CO's and under desks are long past me. But I am really sick of crappy consumer grade networking gear. Maybe I have lousy luck and this stack of WRTG54s is just because I have lousy power, or whatever.
I'm having an issue where my Exchange Edge Transport server receives mail (found in logs) and then it vanishes, never ending up in the users mailbox, I have a edge subscription setup between it and the main Exchange server, how can I go about tracing the message to figure out what is broken? I also have found records of the message in the logs on the main Exchange server.
Thanks a ton for any help
Edit:
If I change port 25 on my main router to point to the main exchange server as opposed to the Edge Transport, email comes through fine form external domains and delivered in the correct mailbox
I am using a modem (ZTE USB Modem FFF1) to connect to internet and I want it to disconnect automatically after completing 90 MB (Downloaded data + Uploaded Data). Can anyone suggest how can I do this. I am using a desktop computer running on Windows 8 Consumer Preview. There's no router. I am using a dial up connection to connect. I just want to limit the data usage of my internet connection, considering sent data + received data.
According to whatsmyip.org none of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc) on W7 are gzip enabled, it's saying 'NO, your browser is not requesting compressed content' which agrees with Chrome developer tools as I was testing a site and it was complaining that the page and css etc weren't compressed. I've searched for an answer but cannot find anything for this.
I've tested from another pc connected to the router and that works fine, something on this pc is broke....
Any help tia
I have set up a home web server using Ubuntu 12.10 and I can safely say that it works with regards to router forwarding and ports being found. I know this, because switched my hosting provider's VPS SOA record to use my ISP IP with an 'A' value and had my website running from home. This verified that my server was configured correctly so I started what I believe to be the final step in making my old desktop into a full DNS server.
I found this tutorial that got me started My LAN network consists of the following:
My router with a gateway of 10.0.0.zzz
My server with an IP of 10.0.0.xxx
A laptop with an IP of 10.0.0.yyy
Step 1:
I installed bind via sudo apt-get install bind9
Step2:
I configured /etc/bind/named.conf.local with:
zone "sognwebdesign.no" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/zones/sognwebdesign.no.db";
};
zone "0.0.10.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/zones/rev.0.0.10.in-addr.arpa";
};
Step3:
Updated /etc/bind/named.conf.options with two ISP DNS addresses
Step 4:
Updated /etc/resolv.confwith:
nameserver 10.0.0.xxx
search lan
search sognwebdesign.no
Step5:
created a ``/etc/bind/zones directory
Step6:
Created /etc/bind/zones/sognwebdesign.no.dbwith:
$TTL 3D
@ IN SOA ns.sognwebdesign.no. admin.sognwebdesign.no. (
2007062001
28800
3600
604800
38400
);
sognwebdesign.no. IN NS ns1.sognwebdesign.no.
sognwebdesign.no. IN NS ns2.sognwebdesign.no.
sognwebdesign.no. IN NS ns3.sognwebdesign.no.
NS1 IN A 10.0.0.1
NS2 IN A 10.0.0.2
NS3 IN A 10.0.0.3
www IN A 10.0.0.4
yuccalaptop IN A 10.0.0.19
gw IN A 10.0.0.138
TXT "Network Gateway"
Step 7:
created/etc/bind/zones/rev.0.0.10.in-addr.arpawith:
$TTL 3D
@ IN SOA ns.sognwebdesign.no. admin.sognwebdesign.no. (
2007062001
28800
604800
604800
86400
);
zzz IN PTR gw.sognwebdesign.no.
1 IN PTR ns1.sognwebdesign.no.
2 IN PTR ns2.sognwebdesign.no.
3 IN PTR ns3.sognwebdesign.no.
yyy IN PTR yuccalaptop.sognwebdesign.no.
I then restart bind and dig-x sognwebdesign.no and it works
Lastly I perform named-checkzoneon each of my zone files, but me reverse zone fail fails with:
sognwedesign.no/IN: has no NS records
Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong here or assist me in getting this configured correctly?
I'm trying to secure my home network but don't really need the complexity of a VPN so I'm trying to figure out other options.
I'd like to allow my iPhone remote access to my home servers but I can't depend on the IP address because it changes quite often (due to the 3G network, etc).
Can I filter incoming connections on my router (pfsense) by MAC address or does NAT change the source as it's passing through the different routers on the internet?
For a custom UDP server servicing a wide variety of client machines sending custom UDP packets, what's the best port to choose as the standard listening port for the server (in that the port is not likely to be disabled at the client by a firewall or router)?
My first inclination is to use port 80, since almost everyone is using HTTP, but that's TCP, and maybe blocking of UDP on port 80 has become common.
What's the best port to choose?
Ok, Here is the technical description.
My laptop's config:
Ip Adress:192.168.2.5
Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306
Operating system: Ubuntu
the database is in this machine
My friend's laptop config:
Ip Adress:192.168.2.4
Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306
Operating system: Windows XP
Both are on a wireless LAN connected through a belkin router (192.168.2.1)
I put this but its not working:
url = "jdbc:mysql://192.168.2.5:3306/Database"
so how configure to connect to this database?
Can't figure this one out. When you connect to a wireless network (like an ad-hoc), it'll create a networkname 1 connection. After something changes, it makes a networkname 2 connection. And this goes on and on. Now I'm at connection ~23, at the home connection I'm at ~2 and ~5.
Is there a way to clean these out? Couldn't find where Win stores such profiles.
I am running ubuntu on various computers on a home wireless network. Some are on 9.04x64, some 10.04x64 and one 9.04x32.
Running scp with a large file starts out at 2.1 mbps and drops down to about 200k, stalling and dropping until the transfer is complete. I've noticed this when I have a secure shell open on any of these servers as well.
I have tried this with 2 different routers, both brand new, different brands.
I am the system administrator. I am suspecting some unwanted data transfers in some of the computers under my lan. This also effects the overall performance of the network. Is there anyway by which i can check the transfered data over a particular interval. I am not supposed to install any applications on any other computers than mine. I have the router access. I can use tools like ettercap dsniff wireshark etc.
I am choosing a wireless headset for my PC (I hate cables) and am looking at Sennheiser RS 170 / 180. They supposedly sound great, however, there is a 25ms audio latency. I've heard that this is OK when watching TV or listening musing but is bad for games.
The question is - has there been any research / hard data that would show how much of a delay is noticeable by human brain? 25ms doesn't sound like a lot but I may be wrong.
Hi,
there is anybody that already ported Android to run in Samsung SGH-i600? It's a nice hardware with Wireless but the Windows Mobile 5 is really bad.
The network admin of a wireless network I am trying to access needs to know the hostname of my computer. My "computer" is actually a Google Nexus One - do you know how I can find out the hostname?
I have a sip account which only allows one device to be registered. When i'm at home I want incoming calls to be able to ring on multiple devices. All of these devices are connected to the local network.
I'm guessing the way to do this is using a local server/proxy that would allow multiple registrations which then forwards traffic to/from my sip provider.
What a simple way to do this on either OS X, Ubuntu or using some low cost SIP router hardware?
I know I'm really reaching here, but does anyone know any source for a 1Gbit Ethernet hub? Not a router, not a switch, but a hub.
I've been told by the Powers That Be that they shalt not allow any more switches on their network, any tie-ins must be via a hub. Yes, I know hubs have all sorts of issues, but I have no control over this.

I am looking for a cheap way of hooking up a USB drive to the LAN.
This could be a router with a USB port, or possibly a more regular NAS device with a USB port. I am hoping to find something below $200. But if there is a device with "magical properties" I may be interested to hear about it anyway.
There are more and more USB to NAS adapters these days, like the SX-3000GB, NUS1000, or Addonics NAS Adapter.
What I want to know is.. Are any of them Hackable? No mention of anything that includes wireless please.
If I screw up typing a URL, my ISP shoots me over to their branded search page. So if I type "superuser" in my location bar I end up at http://domainnotfound.optimum.net/cablevassist/dnsassist/main/?domain=superuser
I'd like my browser to leave the location the way it was and just say "nothing doing," rather than redirecting me to a search.
Can I override that in my own /etc/hosts or at my router?
I have reinstalled windows xp and posted about not being able to connect to the Interenet. I did go and ensure all drivers are there and now when I type ipconfig/all
I get physical address, dhcp enabled, autoconfiguration enabled, autoconfiguration Ip address, subnet mask and then a line that says default gateway where default gateway is the only line with no numbers or anything next to it. My wireless connection works but how can I get this ethernet connection to work. This was working prior to this fresh reinstall.
