  • Acrobat Reader 9 Crashes Every Time

    I have an XP machine on which Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes every time as soon as it starts. I've tried reinstalling 9 and it doesn't help at all. If I use it to open a PDF, it displays the first page, and can be scrolled for about 3 seconds before it crashes. Is there some way to debug this?

    My OS is Windows 7. I try to download Adobe® Acrobat 9 Pro for English and Windows (326.6MB) by its Akamai Download Manager and then click on "Install Now". But I meet some error: "Action center.lnk" is a file which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it? I click yes, but then: Launching File Failed: se_err_accessdenied Anyone has some idea why and how to fix it? Thanks and regards!

    I imported a .jpg image into adobe acrobat to convert it into PDF form with textboxes and stuff. the scanned .jpg is tilted and has to be rotated 5 deg. anti-clockwise. I know how to do this on image editor like paint.net. But I want to do this on PDF itself. is there anyway to rotate document/images in PDF by any other degree other than 90,180 or 270? thanks in advance

  • Acrobat 9.3.2 printing hidden fields automatically

    We have a few clients internally running Acrobat Standard 9.0.0 and their documents are printing fine. One user upgraded to 9.3.2, and now when they try and print some of our documents, a hidden field area is automatically printing. I can't seem to find a way to turn it off. It doesn't appear in the document, or in print preview. Choosing to Examing the document and remove it removes the text, but not the spacing that the hidden area added. is there a setting to never print this? It's not something we want to have to adjust each time we open a document.

  • Acrobat 8 on Windows 7 64-bit

    Here's the situation I'm in. I have Acrobat 8 on Wows 7 (64-bit) and anytime I create PDFs any numbers on the page I'm PDFing come through as garbage. Everything else on the page comes out fine, just the numbers are messed up. They appear as random symbols. I've uninstalled, reinstalled. Applied all updates, not applied updates, nothing seems to help. Mayube I'm a bad searcher, can't put in the right search terms, but I can't find anything that seems to point me in a direction on this. ANy ideas?

  • Why do some PDFs lag in Adobe Acrobat?

    I have a handful of PDFs open. One of them in particular is extremely laggy, almost to the point of being unreadable. When I scroll through its pages, it's almost like an extreme version of v-sync being turned off. Very choppy. Overall system resources are plentiful, and all of the other PDFs cruise up and down with no stuttering or problems. I've tried closing and reopening the problem PDF to no avail. It's a small PDF, only 3MB in size, with no graphics (only programming code snippets). Surely, it must be some type of problem with the specific PDF (I'll try opening it in another PDF-viewing program, rather than Acrobat X). Possible corruption? Could there be some type of GPU/hardware-acceleration intervening going on? I've never heard of such with PDF-viewing.

  • How can I remove unwanted cropped pages from Acrobat

    Executing the crop command in Acrobat from a 3000pt * 2000pt document to 1500pt*1800pt only hides the document outside of the new boundaries but the original document still remains without change; if anyone uses the touch-up tool and moves the content, all "hidden" information outside the cropped page may appear again by dragging it into view. The page acting as a window (or a mask) to display the 3000pt * 2000pt. I am wondering if there is a solution to crop permanently the document without reprinting it again into PDF file? I evaluated several products and found acrobat x pro , which gives a save as option where we can save the document in word/excel format. I tried to use Acrobat SDK but couldn't find proper documentation from where to start. looked into their IAC sample but couldn't understand how to call the menu item and make it execute the save as option. Am I asking about a group of software engineers who get together F2F (or maybe online) and discuss technical and industry issues with deep zeal and interest -- a place where meaningful connections are made. Here are the only examples I have ever seen: Open source Maybe the Silicon Valley Java Users' Group Homebrew Computing Club in the '70's This sort of thing does exist in academia. Of course, there are lots of conferences and attempts at user's groups. However, almost all committed, serious software engineers, when asked about this, say "I don't have the time", which means that the organizations are not worthwhile to the best in our profession. Has anyone seen any organizations with an ongoing spirit of enthusiasm from top software engineers?

  • How do I get Acrobat Pro X to close files without quitting?

    Adobe Acrobat Pro X doesn't seem to want to relinquish files after I close them. When working on some PDFs after I save and close them, I then go to move (not copy) them to the appropriate done folder on our server. Then I get a series of errors saying that Windows cannot move the file as Acrobat Pro X has it open. Looking at the Acrobat window, the file is not loaded. Is there a way to get Acrobat Pro X to close the file like normal (without quitting the program) and actually release the file to the OS?

  • Having problems creating an array from XML data in Acrobat Javascript, please help if you can

    I have a manually created array that already works example below: var PartsData = { 179: { ref:"", partNum: "201-2007-C00-00", descript: "System Monitor Card (Tracewell Only)", cage: "39764", qty: "1", SMR: "XBOZZ", UOC: "A" }}; Now this array above is is just one value in the array and it works fine. Here is the XML that I am trying to use to dynamically change the values. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <partsTables> <partsList> <part sheetNum="ta1"> <breakDownIndexNo>-1 </breakDownIndexNo> <referenceDesg/> <indent>20534220P01 </indent> <description/> <cage>TAC RI, GRADE-A SHOCK (TEC RACK), ALT P/N 72304-1</cage> <qtyPerAssy>23991 </qtyPerAssy> <smr>1 </smr> <uoc>ADODD </uoc> <blank/> </part> </partsList> </partsTables> I have this parsing just fine in Acrobat. Now I want to make the array work for me in using these values. if I have the following below it will work. Where part.item(i).indent.value equals the value of the indent node, etc. newArr = { 179: { ref: part.item(i).referenceDesg.value, partNum: part.item(i).indent.value, descript: part.item(i).cage.value, cage: part.item(i).qtyPerAssy.value, qty: part.item(i).smr.value, SMR: part.item(i).uoc.value, UOC: part.item(i).blank.value}}; As soon as I try to make the 179 value, which is in the breakDownIndexNo node, dynamic by using the direct part.item(i).breakDownIndexNo.value it will not compile. Acrobat is using javascript so I'm not sure why I can not get this to parse. I have tried to create a variable out of the breakDownIndexNo node and typed it to both a String and an Integer. this will let it create the array but it will not let me output from the array. newArr[indexNum].partNum gives me "no properties" where newArr[179].partNum if I were to manually set the index number to 179 will print out the value of part.item(i).indent.value. If any of you have an idea or an answer please let me know.

    Hi, PDF experts help needed, I am posting a form from PDF to a PHP script with Adobe Acrobat. I would like to set my PDF to display appropiate messages based upon some returned values. So I am looking for returned values... if there is any returned values after posting the form, how can I access them? Maybe, there is an option to set this in Adobe? Another thing: When the PDF form gets submitted and let's say I echo back a 'thank you' message from my form-handler PHP script, a new PDF gets created and opened displaying my message... is there a way to open that new message in the same window and close the form instead?     In one of my classes, we were asked to research the top professional journals in our field. According to what I can dig up, the ACM and IEEE journals are the "best", as they come up at the top of my searches and this question. However, there are a dozen or so individually topic-ed journals for each, with no very clear measure of which one is most useful, popular, etc. For example, "IEEE Software" vs. "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering". So, what do you consider to be the "leading" professional journals (specifically), and why? It doesn't have to be only ACM or IEEE, either. If you know of another, please add it.

  • How to suppress the unsolicited footer when converting HTML -> PDF with Acrobat?

    I often convert & combine (via contextmenu) HTML pages to PDF using Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader). I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended, version 9.1.2. The converted PDFs always have the full path of the original file on the bottom of the PDF-page, also they have an additional header line with the document. I need to suppress that. I do not want the unsolicited header and footer in the resulting PDF files as they are a pain to reomve manually, with a certain page count per document it becomes impossible. Is it possible to suppres that and if, how?

    We need to insert a web beacon (i know taboo) in to adobe PDFs to know when they are opened, as one of our clients is moving to a model of "giving" their documents away and following up repeat viewers for subscriptions. Its not enough to be able to provide a download, they want to attach the PDF to an email and "blast" to directed recipients (double-opt-in etc). Adding the javascript to the pdf is easy enough: (iText) and the "openAction" event. However the security box pops up and displays: "Security Warning" "Document is trying to connect to 'xxxx.yyy.com' if you trusty the site choose Allow. If do not trust the site choose Block" [help] [allow] [block] I don't think we need to completley overhaul the dialogue box, I just think we need to change the middle text to be more descriptive of why we are doing it. Of course our client would love us to remove this completely... Thank you in advance for any feed back you can provide, Todd
