  • Powermac G4 Booting Up to White Screen?

    I have a Powermac G4 that I use as a server. Since yesterday, for any reason, it chimes, and just goes to a white screen. The only way to make it work again is to reset the PMU by holding the button inside for 10 seconds. It is running 10.4.11.

    I'm trying to install Mac OS X 10.5 on a MacBook that previously had 10.4 on it. i am getting an error after selecting the language. What could be causing a box on the screen that says: Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. It's an Intel MacBook with 1GB of DDR2 memory. 80GB hard drive. It has been formatted now, so there's no going back. According to the System Profiler on the 10.5 boot CD, the MacBook is version MacBook2,1. Thanks!

  • Can I see the SMTP session log when Mail.app connects to an SMPT server?

    Problem: I've set up a mail server using SASL authentication, and have given Mail.app (on Mac Os 10.4) the login information it needs to connect. I wrote a test message for it to deliver to my server: the Activity window shows that it tries to deliver the message, but then it simply stops, with no indication of error, except that the test message is left in the Outbox. How can I find out what went wrong? Is there some log file I don't know about?

I accidentally renamed my own user name on my mac running OS X 10.4.11 and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc etc) is it possible to copy my settings from my original into this new user name? When I open my computer it defaults to this new account but everything is setting up from new and I just need to get access to all my work documents, mail settings etc. If there is anyone who could help out, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

  • How do I compile DarWINE in PowerPC Mac OS X 10.4.11...?

    So far I've tried using MacPorts which gives me this error: /Error: Cannot install wine for the arch(s) 'powerpc' because Error: its dependency pkgconfig is only installed for the archs 'i386 ppc'. Error: Unable to execute port: architecture mismatch To report a bug, etc... (I'm not allowed to post two links due to being a new poster...)./ I've also tried using the build script I found in the DarWINE 0.9.12 SDK download that I found on the DarWINE SourceForge.net Project Page... I've also tried the build script that I found at http://code.google.com/p/osxwinebuilder/#Building_Wine_via_the_script... None of these attempts to build DarWINE have actually worked. Whenever I build using the DarWINE build script I run it as follows: /1. I decompress the WINE tarball into ~/Downloads/WINE 2. I cd into ~/Downloads/DarWINE. 3. I run ./winemaker ~/Downloads/WINE/wine-1.2.2 or ./winemaker ~/Downloads/WINE/wine-1.2-rc2 (the reason for trying WINE 1.2-rc2 is that some people managed to get it to build on PowerPC Macs running 10.5.8...)./ I made sure to install Xcode Tools 2.5 & all the SDKs too... The net result is either a syntax type error resulting from trying to run the checked out Google Code DarWINE build script or a bunch of make errors when trying to run the official DarWINE build script that I forcefully extracted from the DarWINE 0.9.12 SDK .dmg file by using Pacifist. I trying to build DarWINE on mid-April 2006 1.42 GHz eMac with DL SuperDrive with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR with 2 GBs of RAM running 10.4.11 as I mentioned earlier... (it came with 10.4.4 on the Mac's Restore DVD-ROM that I ordered from 1-800-SOS-APPL & coconutIdentityCard told me it was made on April 12th 2006 & I know that's right because when I reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4.4 it displayed that it was registered/previously owned by a Hawaiian school...): /make[1]: winegcc: Command not found make[1]: * [main.o] Error 127 make: * [dlls/acledit] Error 2./

  • Unique issue with Rails setup

    Becoming a bit of a Ruby convert, but I've run into an issue with my Rails installation. I realize, in spirit, this question may overlap with superuser.com, but am asking here due to the nature of the installation. My command: sudo gem install rails Response is: /opt/local/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/rubygems/spec_fetcher.rb:232: warning:getc is obsolete; use STDIN.getc instead The "/opt/local" may be giving away the fact I'm using MacPorts(Mac OS 10.4). After that response, there is no new command line issued by the system, just a hang. Any insite is greatly appreciated.

    Changing some Software Update settings I possibly corrupted something, and now I don't see many packages in the list.     Hello, Have a look a this simple example. I don't quite understand why o1 prints "Hello Alex" twice. I would think that because of the default self.a is always reset to the empty list. Could someone explain to me what's the rationale here?   • IASA South East Florida Chapter Meeting Recap - June 2011

    Erik Russell and Giles Marino were our speakers for the June 2011 IASA South East Florida Chapter meeting.    Attendees filled all available seats at the Microsoft office conference room where the event was held. This highlights the high interest in Enterprise Architecture as a career track and chartered project role. Also in attendance were our Board of Directors and Alex Funkhouser, President, Sherlock Technology.   Rainer Habermann, Chapter President, kicked off the meeting by introducing our speakers and Board of Directors.   Alex Funkhouser, President of South Florida’s staffing firm Sherlock Technology spoke briefly about available Software Architect positions in the area. Alex also congratulated and presented this week’s Sherlock Raffle winner with $500 in cash.   Our speakers Giles and Erik then proceeded with their talk. Erik presented a business case in the government sector where Enterprise Architecture helped a government entity cut costs and streamline its various business operations.     One of the clients requested a personal php.ini configuration for his website, so I have set his VirtualHost as follows: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "/home/alex/www.domain.tld" ServerName www.domain.tld AssignUserID alex alex PHPINIDir /home/alex/php.ini </VirtualHost> The client created php.ini file under /home/alex/ which contains only this setting: session.save_path = "/home/alex/.php_sessions/" Afterall he started to complaint that he sees all other session files generated by other clients' websites. After doing some basic troubleshooting, I realized, that his php.ini settings are affecting all websites specified in the httpd-vhosts.conf. Question is why? Since PHPINIDir is only specified inside one specific VirtualHost?

I've looked at various examples and answers but they seem to create duplicate rows or require indexes (merge on datatable etc) I can't do this via SQL as one source is from a linked Oracle server accessed via MSSQL and the other from a different MSSQL Server that does not have linked access.     My current code is this $swift = email::connect(); $swift->setSubject('hello') ->setFrom(array('[email protected]' => 'Alex')) ->setTo(array('[email protected]' => 'Alex')) ->setBody('hello') ->attach(Swift_Attachment::fromPath(DOCROOT . 'assets/attachments/instructions.pdf')); $swift->send(); The email::connect() returns an instance of SwiftMailer. As per these docs, it would seem that it should work. However, I get an error Fatal error: Call to undefined method Swift_Mailer::setSubject() in /home/user/public_html/application/classes/controller/properties.php on line 45 I've seen that email::connect() does exactly what the example code in the docs does. That is include the correct file return an instance of the library What am I doing wrong? Thanks

How can I prevent this and see actual variable value? In general case, var can be more complicated than "*", for example: "home/alex/mydir/*".

  • How do I get GNU screen not to start in my home directory in OS X?

    GNU Screen (screen) behaves differently on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) compared to Linux (at least Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Gentoo) and OS X 10.4 (Tiger). In 10.5 and 10.6, new screens (made with screen or ^A c) always places me in my home directory ~. In Linux and OS X Tiger, new screens have a pwd of wherever the screen was created originally. Made up examples to illustrate what I mean: Tiger: $ cd ~/foo $ pwd /Users/ben/foo $ screen $ pwd /Users/ben/foo $ screen # or ^A c $ pwd /Users/ben/foo Leopard, Snow Leopard: $ cd ~/foo $ pwd /Users/ben/foo $ screen $ pwd /Users/ben $ screen # or ^A c $ pwd /Users/ben How do I get Leopard and Snow Leopard to behave like Tiger used to?

    i run the app and get this error. the little arrow points to the 'd', dont know what that means. plus i had the same error just before but on this line: from quickly.widgets.dictionary grid import DictionaryGrid the arrow pointed to the 'd' in grid as well. then i changed it to this: from quickly.widgets.dictionary_grid import DictionaryGrid i added a '_' in the middle. and now i have the syntax error in the question.   • How to install new Intel Ethernet driver

    Ubuntu 12.04 x64 doesn't recognize newest Intel Ethernet adapter on my desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection i217-V). I downloaded required driver from Intel and compiled it using make. Now I have: alex@alex64-six:~$ find / -name 'e1000e.ko' 2>/dev/null /home/alex/Documents/IntelEthernetDriver/e1000e-3.0.4/src/e1000e.ko /lib/modules/3.2.0-64-generic/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/e1000e.ko The first line is new driver compiled from Intel sources. The second line is probably existing driver from Ubuntu distribution, which doesn't recognize new Ethernet adapter. How can I apply the new driver instead of existing one? Any other solution is welcome. For now, I cannot upgrade to latest Ubuntu release, because I use some third-party products.
