  • How To Disable Accelerators In Internet Explorer 8/9

    Internet Explorer 8 introduced Accelerators features that popups blue icon when we select a piece of text in Internet Explorer. If you are annoyed with this blue icon or Accelerators feature in IE 8/ IE 9 you can disable it easily. Follow these steps 1. Launch Internet Explorer 2. Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced 3. Uncheck the box for Display Accelerator button on selection, under Browsing category. 4. Click Apply and OK. 5. Restart Internet Explorer to apply the changes. That’s all. From now onwards Internet Explorer does not display Accelerators Icon when you select text in the browser.     All programming languages are having their design flaws simply because not a single language can be perfect, just as with most (all?) other things. That aside, which design fault in a programming language has annoyed you the most through your history as a programmer? Note that if a language is "bad" just because it isn't designed for a specific thing isn't a design flaw, but a feature of design, so don't list such annoyances of languages. If a language is illsuited for what it is designed for, that is of course a flaw in the design. Implementation specific things and under the hood things do not count either.

  • ASP.NET AJAX and my axe!

    So, I'm seriously considering axing ASP.NET AJAX from my future projects as I honestly feel it's too bloated, and at times convoluted. I'm also starting to feel it is a dying library in the .NET framework as I hardly see any quality components from the open-source community. All the kick-ass components are usually equally bloated commercial components... It was cool at first, but now I tend to get annoyed with it more than anything else. I'm planning on switching over to the jQuery library as just about everything in ASP.NET AJAX is often easily achievable with jQuery, and, more often than not, more graceful of a solution that ASP.NET AJAX and it has a much stronger open-source community. Perhaps, it's just me, but do you feel the same way about ASP.NET AJAX? How was/is your experience working with ASP.NET AJAX?

  • Ubuntu on a netbook. Wait for 12.10?

    My friend has a really slow 2 yr old Toshiba netbook with 1GB of RAM. She is annoyed how slow Windows Starter runs on it so I suggested switching to Ubuntu. Since 12.10 is due in a few days, I'm not sure if we should wait before installing Ubuntu or if we should install it now in order to use Unity 2D. For a low-end device, should we use Unity 2D or use Unity 3D on 12.10 since Unity 2D is no longer present in 12.10? I understand Unity 3D has been greatly improved but is it faster than Unity 2D in the LTS version for a low-spec'd device?

  • Does anyone actually use the /// comment blocks?

    Someone once said we should prefix all our methods with the /// <summary> comment blocks (C#) and I am wondering if that is true or not. I started to use them and found they annoyed me quite a bit, so stopped using them except for libraries and static methods. They're bulky and I'm always forgetting to update them.   • How to write good code with new stuff?

    I always try to write easily readable code that is well structured. I face a particular problem when I am messing around with something new. I keep changing the code, structure and so many other things. In the end, I look at the code and am annoyed at how complicated it became when I was trying to do something so simple. Once I've completed something, I refactor it heavily so that it's cleaner. This occurs after completion most of the time and it is annoying because the bigger the code the more annoying it is the rewrite it. I am curious to know how people deal with such agony, especially on big projects shared between many people ?

  • Health problem of a programmer

    Hi all, I've been annoyed by this fingers ache for quite a long time, my fingers ache because of too much mouse clicking during office hour plus play games after work. I forget game for a while and my fingers are getting better, but still my right pointing finger would feel pressure when I click the mouse. I haven't go to a doctor because I afraid the fee would be high and he would just suggest me too get rest for the fingers, also, I don't know what kind of doctor should I go and see. My fingers get less pressure if I use my expensive deathadder ( what a shame, I bought this for gaming, but now I use it for rest ) at home because its buttons are softer, however I cannot have such expensive mouse at my office because I am afraid people would steal it. I use some trick when I am using the mouse such as single-click open a file, adding more shortcuts at desktop for common jobs, do you guys have some other tips for me? Thank you.

I won't mention the host's name (Hostway), but I was pretty annoyed that someone was able to do this. No, it wasn't a leaky password - around 10 sites hosted by HW with consecutive IP addresses got trashed. Anyway. What I need is a utility or service (preferably free) that takes a snapshot of my websites contents, and then regularly monitors the files (size and datestamp) for unauthorized changes or additions, and alerts me. I've used web services that monitor one file for changes, but I'm looking for something a bit more aggressive.

  • Prevent gnome-shell's dash from listing Recent Items

    I am using gnome-shell in Ubuntu 11.10. I am getting annoyed when dash search lists Recent Items. I have tried many ways to prevent it like Deleting activity.sqlite and activity.sqlite-journal files under ~/.local/share/zeitgeist Adding all the possible entries in Activity Log Manager to prevent application logging Specifying time range in Activity Log Manager to forget my activities. But none of the methods are working. The recent items list is still populated. Is there any way to tell dash not to list Recent Items while searching, other than the above methods? Or is there any way to delete the recent items list?

  • Ubuntu perfomance issues

    I have as deafult Win 7 64b. But i get annoyed by some windows stuff so I decided to install ubuntu and learn Linux, because Win 8 is a nightmare. I have my Ubuntu 12.04 64bit installed in 100gb partition of my 1 Tb disc. My problem is that my Ubuntu feel really slower than Win 7 - even though my Win 7 are after some years of usage and they became much slower. And Ubuntu is just installed OS - I just downloaded wine and skype. It takes some time for new window to appear (its not 10 seconds, but its really slower than my windows). Sometimes my donwload get stuck (in basic ubuntu app store) Its just weird to me. I thought its because of some drivers, but I am really new to linux, so I decided to ask some1 before I screw whole system up. Specs: -6gbs of RAM - 3x2gb -3.0 ghz CPU quadcore -graphic card is HD4870 sapphire Please excuse my poor english and my addiction to windows interface. Pelda

    I have decided, as a arrogant geek, to build my own home ventilation and heating system, and will try to do this as my little project. I have always been annoyed with the lack of good ventilation systems at work, so I accept building my own is arrogant. Does anyone know about a device I can interact with that allows me to get temperature and humidity that I can interact with using C#? I cannot get it from the Internet because I need to get the humidity from my server "room", so I can control the dehumidifier there. Similar with temperature, outside is not that important. It would be a huge plus if the sensors had some sort of wireless access.

    I intend to use google analyticts, and as I understand it I will need to offer users the option to opt out of cookies. The question is this: I HATE these constant cookie option boxes, everyone I ask it getting annoyed by them too. Its nice to have the option, but we all know they have been in use for well over a decade. So - how big of a deal do I have to make about the fact that I'm using GoogleAn? can I pop a small link at the bottom of the page, maybe integrate it into "Privacy policies" page, and give people the option to opt out there? This would be very much the "Assume the majority of users don't mind, but at least make the option available" stance. Ironically setting a cookie seems to be the only way I can see to enforce the opt-out! as IP's change.

  • Should Equality be commutative within a Class Hierachy?

    It is easy to define the Equals operation in ways that are not commutative. When providing equality against other types, there are obviously situations (in most languages) were equality not being commutative is unavoidable. However, within one's own inheritance hierarchy where the root base class defines an equality member, a programmer has more control. Thus you can create situations where (A = B) ? (B = A), where A and B both derive from base class T Substituting the = with the appropriate variation for a given language. (.Equals(_), ==, etc.) That seems wrong to me, however, I recognize I may be biased by background in Mathematics. I have not been in programming long enough to know what is standard/accepted/preferred practice when programming. Do most programmers just accept .Equals(_)may not be commutative and code defensibly. Do they expect commutativity and get annoyed if it is not. In short, when working in a class hierarchy, should effort me made to ensure Equality is commutative?

  • Usability: Do mac users understand "right-click"?

    Incredably annoyed at the Java Keytool. So much so that I have created a new tag: "SunSuck". The keytool does not resolve impartial directories. Ie this works: keytool -keystore "/users/me/Desktop" ... This doesn't: keytool -keystore "~/Desktop" ... Is there something that I could call like this: keytool -keystore "$(<cmd> ~/Desktop)" ...

    Im really annoyed with Internet Explorer.I designed a site using css. The really annoying part is the cross browser issues.. The site works fine in all versions of FireFox and Chrome but when it comes to internet explorer. IE5 - The complete site is messed up with the alignments IE6 - Major Alignment problems. IE7 and 8 Works pretty good. Can someone please suggest some good methods to get rid of the cross browser issues with IE??

    What is the max time do you think is acceptable for a web script (PHP for example) to execute before it starts to become an annoyance for the user (on average)? I always thought that if the user has to wait more than 1 second for the page to load (this of course after images and css have been cached..this rule really only applies for subsequent requests) they would start to get annoyed.
