• C# RSA Encrypt / Decrypt Problem

- by Brendon Randall
Hi All, Im having a problem with C# encrypting and decrypting using RSA. I have developed a web service that will be sent sensitive financial information and transactions. What I would like to be able to do is on the client side, Encrypt the certain fields using the clients RSA Private key, once it has reached my service it will decrypt with the clients public key. At the moment I keep getting a "The data to be decrypted exceeds the maximum for this modulus of 128 bytes." exception. I have not dealt much with C# RSA cryptography so any help would be greatly appreciated. This is the method i am using to generate the keys private void buttonGenerate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string secretKey = RandomString(12, true); CspParameters param = new CspParameters(); param.Flags = CspProviderFlags.UseMachineKeyStore; SecureString secureString = new SecureString(); byte[] stringBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(secretKey); for (int i = 0; i < stringBytes.Length; i++) { secureString.AppendChar((char)stringBytes[i]); } secureString.MakeReadOnly(); param.KeyPassword = secureString; RSACryptoServiceProvider rsaProvider = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(param); rsaProvider = (RSACryptoServiceProvider)RSACryptoServiceProvider.Create(); rsaProvider.KeySize = 1024; string publicKey = rsaProvider.ToXmlString(false); string privateKey = rsaProvider.ToXmlString(true); Repository.RSA_XML_PRIVATE_KEY = privateKey; Repository.RSA_XML_PUBLIC_KEY = publicKey; textBoxRsaPrivate.Text = Repository.RSA_XML_PRIVATE_KEY; textBoxRsaPublic.Text = Repository.RSA_XML_PUBLIC_KEY; MessageBox.Show("Please note, when generating keys you must sign on to the gateway\n" + " to exhange keys otherwise transactions will fail", "Key Exchange", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information); } Once i have generated the keys, i send the public key to the web service which stores it as an XML file. Now i decided to test this so here is my method to encrypt a string public static string RsaEncrypt(string dataToEncrypt) { string rsaPrivate = RSA_XML_PRIVATE_KEY; CspParameters csp = new CspParameters(); csp.Flags = CspProviderFlags.UseMachineKeyStore; RSACryptoServiceProvider provider = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(csp); provider.FromXmlString(rsaPrivate); ASCIIEncoding enc = new ASCIIEncoding(); int numOfChars = enc.GetByteCount(dataToEncrypt); byte[] tempArray = enc.GetBytes(dataToEncrypt); byte[] result = provider.Encrypt(tempArray, true); string resultString = Convert.ToBase64String(result); Console.WriteLine("Encrypted : " + resultString); return resultString; } I do get what seems to be an encrypted value. In the test crypto web method that i created, i then take this encrypted data, try and decrypt the data using the clients public key and send this back in the clear. But this is where the exception is thrown. Here is my method responsible for this. public string DecryptRSA(string data, string merchantId) { string clearData = null; try { CspParameters param = new CspParameters(); param.Flags = CspProviderFlags.UseMachineKeyStore; RSACryptoServiceProvider rsaProvider = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(param); string merchantRsaPublic = GetXmlRsaKey(merchantId); rsaProvider.FromXmlString(merchantRsaPublic); byte[] asciiString = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(data); byte[] decryptedData = rsaProvider.Decrypt(asciiString, false); clearData = Convert.ToString(decryptedData); } catch (CryptographicException ex) { Log.Error("A cryptographic error occured trying to decrypt a value for " + merchantId, ex); } return clearData; If anyone could help me that would be awesome, as i have said i have not done much with C# RSA encryption/decryption. Thanks in advance

• c# send recive object over network?

- by Data-Base
Hello, I'm working on a server/client project the client will be asking the server for info and the server will send them back to the client the info may be string,number, array, list, arraylist or any other object I found allot of examples but I faced issues!!!! the solution I found so far is to serialize the object (data) and send it then de-serialize it to process here is the server code public void RunServer(string SrvIP,int SrvPort) { try { var ipAd = IPAddress.Parse(SrvIP); /* Initializes the Listener */ if (ipAd != null) { var myList = new TcpListener(ipAd, SrvPort); /* Start Listeneting at the specified port */ myList.Start(); Console.WriteLine("The server is running at port "+SrvPort+"..."); Console.WriteLine("The local End point is :" + myList.LocalEndpoint); Console.WriteLine("Waiting for a connection....."); while (true) { Socket s = myList.AcceptSocket(); Console.WriteLine("Connection accepted from " + s.RemoteEndPoint); var b = new byte[100]; int k = s.Receive(b); Console.WriteLine("Recieved..."); for (int i = 0; i < k; i++) Console.Write(Convert.ToChar(b[i])); string cmd = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(b); if (cmd.Contains("CLOSE-CONNECTION")) break; var asen = new ASCIIEncoding(); // sending text s.Send(asen.GetBytes("The string was received by the server.")); // the line bove to be modified to send serialized object? Console.WriteLine("\nSent Acknowledgement"); s.Close(); Console.ReadLine(); } /* clean up */ myList.Stop(); } } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("Error..... " + e.StackTrace); } } here is the client code that should return an object public object runClient(string SrvIP, int SrvPort) { object obj = null; try { var tcpclnt = new TcpClient(); Console.WriteLine("Connecting....."); tcpclnt.Connect(SrvIP, SrvPort); // use the ipaddress as in the server program Console.WriteLine("Connected"); Console.Write("Enter the string to be transmitted : "); var str = Console.ReadLine(); Stream stm = tcpclnt.GetStream(); var asen = new ASCIIEncoding(); if (str != null) { var ba = asen.GetBytes(str); Console.WriteLine("Transmitting....."); stm.Write(ba, 0, ba.Length); } var bb = new byte[2000]; var k = stm.Read(bb, 0, bb.Length); string data = null; for (var i = 0; i < k; i++) Console.Write(Convert.ToChar(bb[i])); //convert to object code ?????? Console.ReadLine(); tcpclnt.Close(); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("Error..... " + e.StackTrace); } return obj; } I need to know a good serialize/serialize and how to integrate it into the solution above :-( I would be really thankful for any help cheers

• Coding With Windows Azure IaaS

- by Hisham El-bereky
This post will focus on some advanced programming topics concerned with IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) which provided as windows azure virtual machine (with its related resources like virtual disk and virtual network), you know that windows azure started as PaaS cloud platform but regarding to some business cases which need to have full control over their virtual machine, so windows azure directed toward providing IaaS. Sometimes you will need to manage your cloud IaaS through code may be for these reasons: Working on hyper-cloud system by providing bursting connector to windows azure virtual machines Providing multi-tenant system which consume windows azure virtual machine Automated process on your on-premises or cloud service which need to utilize some virtual resources We are going to implement the following basic operation using C# code: List images Create virtual machine List virtual machines Restart virtual machine Delete virtual machine Before going to implement the above operations we need to prepare client side and windows azure subscription to communicate correctly by providing management certificate (x.509 v3 certificates) which permit client access to resources in your Windows Azure subscription, whilst requests made using the Windows Azure Service Management REST API require authentication against a certificate that you provide to Windows Azure More info about setting management certificate located here. And to install .cer on other client machine you will need the .pfx file, or if not exist by exporting .cer as .pfx Note: You will need to install .net 4.5 on your machine to try the code So let start This post built on the post sent by Michael Washam "Advanced Windows Azure IaaS – Demo Code", so I'm here to declare some points and to add new operation which is not exist in Michael's demo The basic C# class object used here as client to azure REST API for IaaS service is HttpClient (Provides a base class for sending HTTP requests and receiving HTTP responses from a resource identified by a URI) this object must be initialized with the required data like certificate, headers and content if required. Also I'd like to refer here that the code is based on using Asynchronous programming with calls to azure which enhance the performance and gives us the ability to work with complex calls which depends on more than one sub-call to achieve some operation The following code explain how to get certificate and initializing HttpClient object with required data like headers and content HttpClient GetHttpClient() { X509Store certificateStore = null; X509Certificate2 certificate = null; try { certificateStore = new X509Store(StoreName.My, StoreLocation.CurrentUser); certificateStore.Open(OpenFlags.ReadOnly); string thumbprint = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["CertThumbprint"]; var certificates = certificateStore.Certificates.Find(X509FindType.FindByThumbprint, thumbprint, false); if (certificates.Count > 0) { certificate = certificates[0]; } } finally { if (certificateStore != null) certificateStore.Close(); } WebRequestHandler handler = new WebRequestHandler(); if (certificate!= null) { handler.ClientCertificates.Add(certificate); HttpClient httpClient = new HttpClient(handler); //And to set required headers lik x-ms-version httpClient.DefaultRequestHeaders.Add("x-ms-version", "2012-03-01"); httpClient.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/xml")); return httpClient; } return null; } Let us keep the object httpClient as reference object used to call windows azure REST API IaaS service. For each request operation we need to define: Request URI HTTP Method Headers Content body (1) List images The List OS Images operation retrieves a list of the OS images from the image repository Request URI https://management.core.windows.net/<subscription-id>/services/images] Replace <subscription-id> with your windows Id HTTP Method GET (HTTP 1.1) Headers x-ms-version: 2012-03-01 Body None. C# Code List<String> imageList = new List<String>(); //replace _subscriptionid with your WA subscription String uri = String.Format("https://management.core.windows.net/{0}/services/images", _subscriptionid); HttpClient http = GetHttpClient(); Stream responseStream = await http.GetStreamAsync(uri); if (responseStream != null) { XDocument xml = XDocument.Load(responseStream); var images = xml.Root.Descendants(ns + "OSImage").Where(i => i.Element(ns + "OS").Value == "Windows"); foreach (var image in images) { string img = image.Element(ns + "Name").Value; imageList.Add(img); } } More information about the REST call (Request/Response) located here on this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/jj157191.aspx (2) Create Virtual Machine Creating virtual machine required service and deployment to be created first, so creating VM should be done through three steps incase hosted service and deployment is not created yet Create hosted service, a container for service deployments in Windows Azure. A subscription may have zero or more hosted services Create deployment, a service that is running on Windows Azure. A deployment may be running in either the staging or production deployment environment. It may be managed either by referencing its deployment ID, or by referencing the deployment environment in which it's running. Create virtual machine, the previous two steps info required here in this step I suggest here to use the same name for service, deployment and service to make it easy to manage virtual machines Note: A name for the hosted service that is unique within Windows Azure. This name is the DNS prefix name and can be used to access the hosted service. For example: http://ServiceName.cloudapp.net// 2.1 Create service Request URI https://management.core.windows.net/<subscription-id>/services/hostedservices HTTP Method POST (HTTP 1.1) Header x-ms-version: 2012-03-01 Content-Type: application/xml Body More details about request body (and other information) are located here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/gg441304.aspx C# code The following method show how to create hosted service async public Task<String> NewAzureCloudService(String ServiceName, String Location, String AffinityGroup, String subscriptionid) { String requestID = String.Empty; String uri = String.Format("https://management.core.windows.net/{0}/services/hostedservices", subscriptionid); HttpClient http = GetHttpClient(); System.Text.ASCIIEncoding ae = new System.Text.ASCIIEncoding(); byte[] svcNameBytes = ae.GetBytes(ServiceName); String locationEl = String.Empty; String locationVal = String.Empty; if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(Location) == false) { locationEl = "Location"; locationVal = Location; • Sending Client Certificate in HttpWebRequest

- by Aaron Fischer
I am trying to pass a client certificate to a server using the code below however I still revive the HTTP Error 403.7 - Forbidden: SSL client certificate is required. What are the possible reasons the HttpWebRequest would not send the client certificate? var clientCertificate = new X509Certificate2( @"C:\Development\TestClient.pfx", "bob" ); HttpWebRequest tRequest = ( HttpWebRequest )WebRequest.Create( "https://ofxtest.com/ofxr.dll" ); tRequest.ClientCertificates.Add( clientCertificate ); tRequest.PreAuthenticate = true; tRequest.KeepAlive = true; tRequest.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; tRequest.Method = "POST"; var encoder = new ASCIIEncoding(); var requestData = encoder.GetBytes( "<OFX></OFX>" ); tRequest.GetRequestStream().Write( requestData, 0, requestData.Length ); tRequest.GetRequestStream().Close(); ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback = new System.Net.Security.RemoteCertificateValidationCallback( CertPolicy.ValidateServerCertificate ); WriteResponse( tRequest.GetResponse() );

• How to remove default header from WCF REST Outgoing Response?

- by bmsantos
The following C# WCF based REST service gives me some undesired headers that I'm not sure if I can remove them trough the API. The interface: [ServiceContract] public interface IControlSystem { [OperationContract] [WebGet] System.IO.Stream About(); } The implementation: public class ControlSystem : IControlSystem { public System.IO.Stream About() { return new System.IO.MemoryStream(ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes("Hello World")); } } Out of a raw socket connection it gives the following response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: ASP.NET Development Server/9.0.0.0 Date: Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:12:51 GMT X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 Cache-Control: private Content-Type: application/octet-stream Content-Length: 39 Connection: Close Hello World Question is, is it possible to get the server to not report anything other than the actual message? Need it in some calls so due to some small embedded device clients that will try to connect to the server and I would like to minimize the amount of parsing. Thanks, B.

• How to add Category in DotClear blog with HttpWebRequest or MetaWeblog API

- by Pitming
I'm trying to create/modify dotclear blogs. For most of the options, i use XmlRpc API (DotClear.MetaWeblog). But didn't find any way to handle categories. So I start to look at the Http packet and try to do "the same as the browser". Here si the method I use to "Http POST" protected HttpStatusCode HttpPost(Uri url_, string data_, bool allowAutoRedirect_) { HttpWebRequest Request; HttpWebResponse Response = null; Stream ResponseStream = null; Request = (System.Net.HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(url_); Request.UserAgent = "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"; Request.Accept = "text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8"; Request.AllowAutoRedirect = allowAutoRedirect_; // Add the network credentials to the request. Request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(Username, Password); string authInfo = Username + ":" + Password; authInfo = Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(authInfo)); Request.Headers["Authorization"] = "Basic " + authInfo; Request.Method = "POST"; Request.CookieContainer = Cookies; if(ConnectionCookie!=null) Request.CookieContainer.Add(url_, ConnectionCookie); if (dcAdminCookie != null) Request.CookieContainer.Add(url_, dcAdminCookie); Request.PreAuthenticate = true; ASCIIEncoding encoding = new ASCIIEncoding(); string postData = data_; byte[] data = encoding.GetBytes(postData); //Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data_); //encoding.GetBytes(postData); Request.ContentLength = data.Length; Request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; Stream newStream = Request.GetRequestStream(); // Send the data. newStream.Write(data, 0, data.Length); newStream.Close(); try { // get the response from the server. Response = (HttpWebResponse)Request.GetResponse(); if (!allowAutoRedirect_) { foreach (Cookie c in Response.Cookies) { if (c.Name == "dcxd") ConnectionCookie = c; if (c.Name == "dc_admin") dcAdminCookie = c; } Cookies.Add(Response.Cookies); } // Get the response stream. ResponseStream = Response.GetResponseStream(); // Pipes the stream to a higher level stream reader with the required encoding format. StreamReader readStream = new StreamReader(ResponseStream, Encoding.UTF8); string result = readStream.ReadToEnd(); if (Request.RequestUri == Response.ResponseUri) { _log.InfoFormat("{0} ==> {1}({2})", Request.RequestUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } else { _log.WarnFormat("RequestUri:{0}\r\nResponseUri:{1}\r\nstatus code:{2} Status descr:{3}", Request.RequestUri, Response.ResponseUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } } catch (WebException wex) { Response = wex.Response as HttpWebResponse; if (Response != null) { _log.ErrorFormat("{0} ==> {1}({2})", Request.RequestUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } Request.Abort(); } finally { if (Response != null) { // Releases the resources of the response. Response.Close(); } } if(Response !=null) return Response.StatusCode; return HttpStatusCode.Ambiguous; } So the first thing to do is to Authenticate as admin. Here is the code: protected bool HttpAuthenticate() { Uri u = new Uri(this.Url); Uri url = new Uri(string.Format("{0}/admin/auth.php", u.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority))); string data = string.Format("user_id={0}&user_pwd={1}&user_remember=1", Username, Password); var ret = HttpPost(url,data,false); return (ret == HttpStatusCode.OK || ret==HttpStatusCode.Found); } 3.Now that I'm authenticate, i need to get a xd_chek info (that i can find on the page so basically it's a GET on /admin/category.php + Regex("dotclear[.]nonce = '(.*)'")) 4.so I'm authenticate and have the xd_check info. The last thing to do seems to post the next category. But of course it does not work at all... here is the code: string postData = string.Format("cat_title={0}&new_cat_parent={1}&xd_check={2}", category_, 0, xdCheck); HttpPost(url, postData, true); If anyone can help me and explain were is it wrong ? thanks in advance.

• returning a memoryStream as a string

- by WeNeedAnswers
What is wrong with this statement? return new ASCIIEncoding().GetString(memoryStream.ToArray()); I know about the Dispose pattern, have checked out the underlying memoryStream and seen that there is nothing really happening in the dispose. So why shouldn't I allow one of my developers to do this. The aim is to make the code succinct and not create references that are not required, Hopefully getting the Garbage Collector to kick in soon as. Its just niggling me, I feel that the memoryStream lets the party down, when compared to what the other streams do and why they implement the IDispose. Can someone please give me a good reason not to allow the code above. I got a gut feeing about the code not being right but need some back up. :)

• Powershell - Splitting variable into chunks

I have written a query in Powershell interrogating a F5 BIG-IP box through it's iControl API to bring back CPU usage etc. Using this code (see below) I can return the data back into a CSV format which is fine. However the $csvdata variable contains all the data. I need to be able to take this variable and for each line split each column of data into a seperate variable. The output currently looks like this: timestamp,"Utilization" 1276181160,2.3282800000e+00 Any advice would be most welcome $SystemStats = (Get-F5.iControl).SystemStatistics ### Allocate a new Query Object and add the inputs needed $Query = New-Object -TypeName iControl.SystemStatisticsPerformanceStatisticQuery $Query.object_name = $i $Query.start_time = $startTime $Query.end_time = 0 $Query.interval = $interval $Query.maximum_rows = 0 ### Make method call passing in an array of size one with the specified query $ReportData = $SystemStats.get_performance_graph_csv_statistics( (,$Query) ) ### Allocate a new encoder and turn the byte array into a string $ASCII = New-Object -TypeName System.Text.ASCIIEncoding $csvdata = $ASCII.GetString($ReportData[0].statistic_data)

• Translate from Java to C#: simple code to re-encode a string

- by Dr. Zim
We were sent this formula to encrypt a string written in Java: String myInput = "test1234"; MessageDigest md = MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA"); byte[] myD = md.digest(myInput.getBytes()); BASE64Encoder en64 = new BASE64Encoder(); String myOutput = new String ( Java.net.URLEncoder.encode( en64.encode(myD))); // myOutput becomes "F009U%2Bx99bVTGwS3cQdHf%2BJcpCo%3D" Our attempt at writing this in C# is: System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1 sha1 = new System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1CryptoServiceProvider(); string myOutput = HttpUtility.UrlEncode( Convert.ToBase64String( sha1.ComputeHash( ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(myInput)))); However the output is no where near the same. It doesn't even have percent signs in it. Any chance anyone would know where we are going wrong?

• using C# how to convert iso8859-1 encoded text files that contain Latin-1 accented characters to utf

- by Tim
I am being sent text files saved in iso88591-1 format that contain accented characters from the Latin-1 range (as well as normal ASCII a-z etc). How to convert these files to utf-8 using C# so that the single-byte accented characters in iso8859-1 become valid utf-8 characters? I have tried to use a StreamReader with ASCIIEncoding, and then converting the ascii string to UTF-8 by instantiating an ascii encoding and a utf8 encoding and then using Encoding.Convert(ascii, utf8, ascii.GetBytes( asciiString) ) — but the accented characters are being rendered as question marks. What step am I missing? Thanks

• Powershell Select-Object from array not working

- by Andrew
I am trying to seperate values in an array so i can pass them to another function. Am using the select-Object function within a for loop to go through each line and separate the timestamp and value fields. However, it doesn't matter what i do the below code only displays the first select-object variable for each line. The second select-object command doesn't seem to work as my output is a blank line for each of the 6 rows. Any ideas on how to get both values $ReportData = $SystemStats.get_performance_graph_csv_statistics( (,$Query) ) ### Allocate a new encoder and turn the byte array into a string $ASCII = New-Object -TypeName System.Text.ASCIIEncoding $csvdata = $ASCII.GetString($ReportData[0].statistic_data) $csv2 = convertFrom-CSV $csvdata $newarray = $csv2 | Where-Object {$_.utilization -ne "0.0000000000e+00" -and $_.utilization -ne "nan" } for ( $n = 0; $n -lt $newarray.Length; $n++) { $nTime = $newarray[$n] $nUtil = $newarray[$n] $util = $nUtil | select-object Utilization $util $tstamp = $nTime | select-object timestamp $tstamp }

• wrong font in a RichTextBox importing from .rtf

- by giacomellow
Hi all, I'm developing a microsoft surface application using expression blend+vs 2008. I have a RichTextBox that loads formatted text from an .rtf file. The text is formatted with uppecases, color, and specific font (helvetica-neue). When i load the text, it is displayed in the control with matching format (color and uppecase) but NOT matching font. it seems to use the standard Blend font (Thaoma). the text is loaded with this function: public static RichTextBox SetRTFText(string text, RichTextBox richTextBox) { MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(text)); TextRange documentTextRange = new TextRange(richTextBox.Document.ContentStart, richTextBox.Document.ContentEnd); documentTextRange.Load(stream, DataFormats.Rtf ); return richTextBox; } thank you all!

• Use of WebDAV to access OWA (exchange 2003) mails with Basic authentication and SSL

- by Mayuresh
I have got a working C# code for accessing OWA mails using WebDAV against a FBA enabled exchange 2003 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891748/en-us/) But my client's OWA (exchange 2003) has Basic authentication and SSL (i-e when I try to access the web mail link through browser I get a grey login box instead of a web page I can log into the mail box once I enter the correct details) But my same fails with a 401 error against this mailbox. I got the simple request working for the Basic authentication using – String usernamePassword = strUserName + ":" + strPassword; WebReq.Headers.Add("Authorization", "Basic " + Convert.ToBase64String(new ASCIIEncoding().GetBytes(usernamePassword))); But the subsequent WebDAV SEARCH request fails with 404 (resource not found) error. Can we use WebDAV against an exchange 2k3 with SSL and Basic authentication?

Now, I am supposed to convert the contents into UTF-8 so that the content looks like Japanese. And here I am completely blank. I tried the following code that I found somewhere on Internet but no luck: byte[] arrByte = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(arrActualData[x]); string str = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(arrByte);Can anyone help me with this? • Logging Into a site that uses Live.com authentication with C#

- by Josh
I've been trying to automate a log in to a website I frequent, www.bungie.net. The site is associated with Microsoft and Xbox Live, and as such makes uses of the Windows Live ID API when people log in to their site. I am relatively new to creating web spiders/robots, and I worry that I'm misunderstanding some of the most basic concepts. I've simulated logins to other sites such as Facebook and Gmail, but live.com has given me nothing but trouble. Anyways, I've been using Wireshark and the Firefox addon Tamper Data to try and figure out what I need to post, and what cookies I need to include with my requests. As far as I know these are the steps one must follow to log in to this site. 1. Visit https: //login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1268167141&rver=5.5.4177.0&wp=LBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fwww.bungie.net%2FDefault.aspx&id=42917 2. Recieve the cookies MSPRequ and MSPOK. 3. Post the values from the form ID "PPSX", the values from the form ID "PPFT", your username, your password all to a changing URL similar to: https: //login.live.com/ppsecure/post.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct= (there are a few numbers that change at the end of that URL) 4. Live.com returns the user a page with more hidden forms to post. The client then posts the values from the form "ANON", the value from the form "ANONExp" and the values from the form "t" to the URL: http ://www.bung ie.net/Default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0 5. After posting that data, the user is returned a variety of cookies the most important of which is "BNGAuth" which is the log in cookie for the site. Where I am having trouble is on fifth step, but that doesn't neccesarily mean I've done all the other steps correctly. I post the data from "ANON", "ANONExp" and "t" but instead of being returned a BNGAuth cookie, I'm returned a cookie named "RSPMaybe" and redirected to the home page. When I review the Wireshark log, I noticed something that instantly stood out to me as different between the log when I logged in with Firefox and when my program ran. It could be nothing but I'll include the picture here for you to review. I'm being returned an HTTP packet from the site before I post the data in the fourth step. I'm not sure how this is happening, but it must be a side effect from something I'm doing wrong in the HTTPS steps. ![alt text][1] http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6049/31394881.gif using System; using System.Collections.Generic; • HttpRequest.BeginWebRequest not executing asynchronously

- by Shawn Simon
I have the following code: Private Function CreateRequest() As HttpWebRequest Dim request As HttpWebRequest = HttpWebRequest.Create(_url) request.Method = "POST" request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" Dim postData As String = String.Join("&", GetPostData().Select(Function(s) String.Format("{0}={1}", s.Key, HttpUtility.UrlEncode(s.Value))).ToArray) Dim data As Byte() = (New ASCIIEncoding).GetBytes(postData) request.Timeout = _maxTimeoutSeconds * 1000 Dim stream = request.GetRequestStream stream.Write(data, 0, data.Length) stream.Close() Return request End Function Public Sub SendAsync(ByVal callback As Action(Of ResponseBase)) Dim request = CreateRequest() _attemptCount += 1 Dim reqID As Integer If _loggingContext IsNot Nothing Then Try reqID = Log.NotesRequest(_url.ToString, GetPostData, _loggingContext) Catch ex As Exception ErrorTracker.LogError(ex) End Try End If Dim responseState As New ResponseState responseState.LoggedNotesRequestID = reqID responseState.Request = request responseState.Callback = callback Dim response = request.BeginGetResponse(New AsyncCallback(AddressOf RespCallback), responseState) End Sub Private Sub RespCallback(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult) Dim responseState As ResponseState = CType(ar.AsyncState, ResponseState) ' Process response... I set up the request to go to a mock server which sleeps for 30 seconds. When I call BeginGetResponse, the application just waits at that line of code for the response. I want it to carry on with the app, and then just run the callback whenever it finishes. This code is run from a web page, and my callback just logs the response and sends an email. I don't want to use to have to wait for the response.

• Ascii Bytes Array To Int32 or Double

- by Michael Covelli
I'm re-writing alibrary with a mandate to make it totally allocation free. The goal is to have 0 collections after the app's startup phase is done. Previously, there were a lot of calls like this: Int32 foo = Int32.Parse(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(bytes, start, length)); Which I believe is allocating a string. I couldn't find a C# library function that would do the same thing automatically. I looked at the BitConverter class, but it looks like that is only if your Int32 is encoded with the actual bytes that represent it. Here, I have an array of bytes representing Ascii characters that represent an Int32. Here's what I did public static Int32 AsciiBytesToInt32(byte[] bytes, int start, int length) { Int32 Temp = 0; Int32 Result = 0; Int32 j = 1; for (int i = start + length - 1; i >= start; i--) { Temp = ((Int32)bytes[i]) - 48; if (Temp < 0 || Temp > 9) { throw new Exception("Bytes In AsciiBytesToInt32 Are Not An Int32"); } Result += Temp * j; j *= 10; } return Result; } Does anyone know of a C# library function that already does this in a more optimal way? Or an improvement to make the above run faster (its going to be called millions of times during the day probably). Thanks!

• What is the difference between using MD5.Create and MD5CryptoServiceProvider?

- by byte
In the .NET framework there are a couple of ways to calculate an MD5 hash it seems, however there is something I don't understand; What is the distinction between the following? What sets them apart from eachother? They seem to product identical results: public static string GetMD5Hash(string str) { MD5CryptoServiceProvider md5 = new MD5CryptoServiceProvider(); byte[] bytes = ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(str); byte[] encoded = md5.ComputeHash(bytes); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < encoded.Length; i++) sb.Append(encoded[i].ToString("x2")); return sb.ToString(); } public static string GetMD5Hash2(string str) { System.Security.Cryptography.MD5 md5 = System.Security.Cryptography.MD5.Create(); byte[] bytes = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(str); byte[] encoded = md5.ComputeHash(bytes); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < encoded.Length; i++) sb.Append(encoded[i].ToString("x2")); return sb.ToString(); }

• Sending jpegs by tcp socket...sometimes incomplete.

- by Guy
Vb.net Hi I've been working on a project for months now (vb 2008 express). There is one final problem which I can't solve. I need to send images to a client from a 'server'(listener). The code below works most of the time but sometimes the image is incomplete. I believe this might be something to do with the tcp packet sizes varying, maybe limited by how busy it is out there on the net. I have seen examples of code that splits the image into chunks and sends them out, but I can't get them to work maybe because I'm using a different vb version. The pictures to be sent are small 20k max. Any working code examples would be wonderful. I have been experimenting and failing with this final hurdle for weeks. Thanks in anticipation. Client----- Sub GetPic() '------- Connect to Server ClientSocket = New Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, _ ProtocolType.Tcp) ClientSocket.Connect(Epoint) '------- Send Picture Request Dim Bytes() As Byte = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Send Picture") ClientSocket.Send(Bytes, Bytes.Length, SocketFlags.None) '------- Receive Response Dim RecvBuffer(20000) As Byte Dim Numbytes As Integer Numbytes = ClientSocket.Receive(RecvBuffer) Dim Darray(Numbytes) As Byte Buffer.BlockCopy(RecvBuffer, 0, Darray, 0, Numbytes) '------- Close Connection ClientSocket.Shutdown(SocketShutdown.Both) ClientSocket.Close() '------- Dim MStrm = New MemoryStream(Darray) Picture = Image.FromStream(MStrm) End Sub Listener----- 'Threaded from a listener Sub ClientThread(ByVal Client As TcpClient) Dim MStrm As New MemoryStream Dim Rbuffer(1024) As Byte Dim Tbyte As Byte() Dim NStrm As NetworkStream = Client.GetStream() Dim I As Integer = NStrm.Read(Rbuffer, 0, Rbuffer.Length) Dim Incoming As String = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Rbuffer, 0, I) If Incoming = "Send Picture" then Picture Save(MStrm, Picture.RawFormat) Tbyte = MStrm.ToArray NStrm.Write(Tbyte, 0, Tbyte.Length) End if Client.Close() End Sub

• GZipStream in an WebHttpResponse producing no data

- by Pierre 303
I want to compress my HTTP Responses for client that supports it. Here is the code used to send a standard response: IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } The code above works fine. Now I added gzip support below. When I test it with a browser that supports gzip or a custom method, it returns an empty string. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I just can't find it... IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string acceptEncoding = request.Headers["Accept-Encoding"]; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); if (acceptEncoding != null && acceptEncoding.Contains("gzip")) { byte[] bytes = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(responseBody); response.AddHeader("Content-Encoding", "gzip"); using (GZipStream writer = new GZipStream(response.Body, CompressionMode.Compress)) { writer.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } } else { using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } }

• powershell missing member methods in array

- by Andrew
Hi Guys I have (yet another) powershell query. I have an array in powershell which i need to use the remove() and split commands on. Normally you set an array (or variable) and the above methods exist. On the below $csv2 array both methods are missing, i have checked using the get-member cmd. How can i go about using remove to get rid of lines with nan. Also how do i split the columns into two different variables. at the moment each element of the array displays one line, for each line i need to convert it into two variables, one for each column. timestamp Utilization --------- ----------- 1276505880 2.0763250000e+00 1276505890 1.7487730000e+00 1276505900 1.6906890000e+00 1276505910 1.7972880000e+00 1276505920 1.8141900000e+00 1276505930 nan 1276505940 nan 1276505950 0.0000000000e+00 $SystemStats = (Get-F5.iControl).SystemStatistics $report = "c:\snmp\data" + $gObj + ".csv" ### Allocate a new Query Object and add the inputs needed $Query = New-Object -TypeName iControl.SystemStatisticsPerformanceStatisticQuery $Query.object_name = $i $Query.start_time = $startTime $Query.end_time = 0 $Query.interval = $interval $Query.maximum_rows = 0 ### Make method call passing in an array of size one with the specified query $ReportData = $SystemStats.get_performance_graph_csv_statistics( (,$Query) ) ### Allocate a new encoder and turn the byte array into a string $ASCII = New-Object -TypeName System.Text.ASCIIEncoding $csvdata = $ASCII.GetString($ReportData[0].statistic_data) $csv2 = convertFrom-CSV $csvdata $csv2
