  • Strange resolution on Ubuntu 11.10

    I only just installed Ubuntu 11.10, so excuse me if this question is silly ;-) I have a Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile V655, nvidia 8200 graphics, and recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 using wubi. I had to modify booting commands to include nomodeset; otherwise Ubuntu would not boot. Now I did set my screen resolution to 1280 x 720, which is the correct resolution for this screen. Still, the display seems imperfect. The font sizes seem unnatural(too large / stretched) and text is quite blurry (especially in Firefox). Could it have something to do withe the nvidia graphics driver and/or the nomodeset parameter? How can I fix this? Update: I used jockey-gtk to update nvidia to the current version. This improved the resolution dramatically (no blurriness, fonts are good). It also means that I no loger need to include nomodesetin the boot commands. However, other problems were brought up by this. It seems that certain files cannot be accessed - icon (images) are missing, some task bars are completely unstyled (grey, block-form, win97 style). I also get this error message(roughly translated from German, so may be slightly different from actual) every time I reboot: Could not apply the stored configuration for the monitor: none of the chosen modi is compatible with the available modi. I have tried nvidia-xconfig, unity --reset , no improvements. Can anyone help, please?

  • Memory consumption of each accept() call on server running on Windows 2008 [migrated]

    I've written a simple and small server application on Windows 2008 that just accepts connections and does nothing else. I am doing memory footprint assessment of socket calls, What I found that each connection (after accept()) consumes at least 2.5 KB of memory. Interestingly, the memory is not consumed by the process that has accept() call but it consumed by a OS process. I believe it might be because of data structures being created inside OS for each connection. Now, I have two key questions: Is it possible by any means to reduce this memory footprint (by changing any parameters, configuration etc) ? If yes how ? (Because 2K for each connection would be too much if we planning server to accept millions of connections) If my server is intended to accept million connections, is it good idea to use Windows 2008 ? or shall I switch to some other OS? Please advice me.

  • Are there any free .NET OCR libraries that will perform OCR on an application window directly?

    I am looking for a free .NET OCR library that will be able to do OCR on a given application window or even a image in memory (I can take a snapshot of the application window myself). I have looked at tessnet2 and MODI but both require an image located on disk. I need to use OCR because the application I am trying to write a script for does some wacky stuff that cannot be read using windows API and I need to scrape data from the screen. I have tested both of tessnet2 and MODI and they both can read the text mostly but because this has to run in an enviroment that will not be able to write to disk, I need it to be able to read directly from the applciation window or some type of memory stream. I am thinking OCR is my only soution but there could be other methods that I am not thinking of. Suggestions?

I am creating xml as string and cast this string in to xml. When i click any cell it takes 10-13 sec and in the cell click handler i get value of System.totalMemory is 255205376.     hi I have created jar in the following folder: /usr/local/bin/niidle.jar. And my MANIFEST.MF file is as follows: Manifest-Version: 1.0 Main-Class: com.ensarm.niidle.web.scraper.NiidleScrapeManager Class-Path: hector-0.6.0-17.jar And I verified that,this 'hector-0.6.0-17.jar' file is also present in the folder: /Projects/EnwelibDatedOct13/Niidle/lib/hector-0.6.0-17.jar I don't want to give full class-path name in MANIFEST.MF file,because I have to run this jar on other's machine,so I gave only jar file name 'Class-Path=hector-0.6.0-17.jar' in MANIFEST.MF file. Inspite of mentioning the Class-Path in MANIFEST.MF file, when I run this using command: java -jar /usr/local/bin/niidle.jar arguments...     I want to search a word in string in ORACLE in which string is comma separated. Eg. String is ('MF1,MF2,MF3') and now I want to search whether 'MF' exists in that or not. If I am using instr('MF1,MF2,MF3','MF') it will give wrong result since I want to search Full MF in MF1 or MF2 or MF3.

    We can use for loop and while loop for same purpose. in what means they effect our code if I use for instead of while? same question arises between if-else and switch-case? how to decide what to use? for example which one you would prefer?
